Ford’s Retro Shelby

1965 Shelby GT350SR

Carroll Shelby must have been mystified when everyone wanted his rare little Cobras and Mustang Shelby muscle cars. Probably the worst part was that everybody was making money off his name … everybody except him. So he began marketing some of his own replicas under his Continuation series. One of the rarest of these was a limited number of 1965 Ford Shelby GT350SR’s manufactured for him by Unique Performance.

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of both the ’65 GT350 Mustang and the 427 Cobra, Ford and Shelby planned to build 40 Continuation 427-powered versions of the GT350, calling them GT350SR’s. Shelby had Unique Performance build these cars. As the story goes, Unique had some difficulties along the way and only about 37 of these HiPo Mustangs were ever built. They may be the most over-the-top sports cars ever produced in the U.S. The 427 was not your old iron block Ford power plant; no, these were aluminum 427’s. Although it appears like they used the old Weber carbs, this beast is actually fed by a DC&O fuel injection system with 42-psi injectors and timed by a Redline fuel management computer.

The 1965 Ford Shelby GT350SR you see here may be the best of the lot of 37. It comes in Hertz Rent-A-Racer livery. The private party seller from New York is offering his super rare 1965 Ford Shelby GT350SR for sale. It is CSC # 016 with only 2,935 original miles on the build. The first owner was a personal friend to Carroll Shelby. They say it has never been raced. It is listed in the Shelby Registry. The sale of the car will include photos, a CD, along with the Ford donor car warranty number (see driver side door tag.) The Shelby production number is found on the passenger side fender. It has a Montana “lifetime” license plate.

The GT350SR is powered by a 408 ci 575 horsepower Shelby small block motor with DC&O Electronic-Port 8 stack fuel injection and a Tremec TKO-500 5-speed transmission with short throw shifter. It even has long tube headers. You’ve never driven a car that “breathes” this well.

This 1965 Ford Shelby GT350SR CSC # 016 was featured on the cover of the August 2007 edition of Mustang & Ford Magazine. It was also featured on the cover of Motor Trend magazine. At a time when resto mods are all the rage, this is better than a resto mod because it is authentic and certified original “from the factory” so to speak.

Classic Car News This Week

2019 McLaren Senna

The car that caught our attention in the recent Fast X movie, the 10th film in the Fast and Furious series, was a 2019 McLaren Senna that Jason Stratham’s character, Deckard Shaw, drives. Now this is a real exotic car, and it is an 800 hp super car right off the showroom floor. As a limited edition, McLaren only made 500 of them in 2019. It is a tribute to Formula One racer Ayrton Senna. The car as shown in the movie is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 that is said to go 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds. An identical car was recently seen at a Cars and Coffee event in Sydney, Australia and recorded by Supercar Owners there. Click this link to watch the video. There is one for sale on the internet just like this one for $2.5 million. The average cost of a McLaren Senna is about $1.6 million.

’59 Cadillac Inspection

When a Florida buyer asked us to look at a 1959 Cadillac 2-Door Hardtop for him we were excited to do the pre-purchase inspection. The look and stance on the Cadillac restomod did not disappoint. However we did find some problems with the custom build. You can read the sample report here. It does take some expertise to own and maintain a car with Air Ride. You will note that the inspector took photos of where the magnet held, also. Many more photos were made available to the buyer.

The first item on a buyer’s “To Do” list should be to contact the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service. Buying a collector car is much different than buying a new or used late model car. It is always a “buyer beware” type of sale. With a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada, your first line of protection in any sale is a COL Collector Car Inspection. Learn more about collector car inspections when you read our COL Inspection Referral Service page.

1967 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible

Now this is how you use video to sell your collector car. Southern Motors did a nice walk-around video inspection of their freshly listed 1967 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible this week. They tell us it is a clean and fresh Georgia car with a factory original 400 ci V8 engine, factory 4-barrel carburetor and 400 Turbo Hydromatic transmission. They say it even has a factory 10-bolt transmission and factory boxed control arms and sway bar. After you see this video I think you’ll agree that it is hard to find them in this condition.

Have you seen our CarsOnLine.tv Classic Car Video marketplace? To feature your car on CarsOnLine.tv, just add a video to your Cars-On-Line.com ad. Video ads have become the most important development for internet sellers. Just upload your video to YouTube and we’ll embed your video in your Cars On Line.com ad at no extra charge.

Collector Cars with Low Miles

1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL

There were so many Mercedes-Benz SL sports cars sold here in the U.S. that it has taken a while for them to accumulate collector value. But we may be seeing a C-change in that theory. If you buy one today you can still get a good deal (they are worth far more in Europe than here in the U.S. right now.) This is a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL being offered by California based Specialty Sales Classics in Pleasanton, California. They say it has just 21k original miles. It has been in the same California family since it was new. This is the one to check out because of its low mileage.

Here are more recent Low Miles additions:

1998 Corvette Convertible, Streetside Nashville, 22,893 actual miles

2005 Corvette, North Shore Classics, IL, 25k miles

2007 Jaguar XK Convertible, North Shore Classics, IL, 43k miles

You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.

Project Vehicles for Restoration

1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto was made famous in the Dustin Hoffman movie ‘The Graduate.” Here is a 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Duetto (one year newer than the Hoffman ride). It is being offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, and is in obvious need of restoration. They say it is currently not running. If you’ve been wanting a restoration challenge, this one might be one of the easier ones to complete. Have it inspected before you buy. But hurry! These early versions are not that easy to find.

The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

1966 Mercedes 230SL Pagoda, Beverly Hills Car Club, CA

1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL, Beverly Hills Car Club, CA

1966 Chevrolet C10 Custom from Charlotte, NC

1966 Dodge Coronet 440 from Milwaukee, WI

1938 Ford Panel Delivery, Classic Auto Mall, PA

1961 MGA Roadster

If you’ve been looking for an MGA Roadster recently you will note that there are not a lot of these around in nice driver quality condition. But a regular Cars-On-Line advertiser tells us this 1961 MGA Roadster (pictured here) is the exception to the rule. He found this one through an MGA expert who knows these cars. Now that it is time to “trim the herd” he is selling this one. There may not be a lot of MGA’s out there in this condition. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. He was asking $48,000 because this one is exceptional. But just yesterday he told us to drop the price to $29,500. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Deals of the Day

1981 Camaro Z28

The last of the third generation Camaros was produced in 1981. That next year they came out with a new fourth generation which was not considered as desirable. Here is a 1981 Camaro Z28, one of those final year editions. It is being offered for sale at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. They say it is all original and unrestored. Now, you should note that the paint is faded and showing its age. The interior, however, is said to be really nice. It is powered by the Chevrolet 305 V8 with a 4-speed manual transmission. Click here to view a walk-around video inspection and hear it run. You can even inspect the glass T-tops and panel gaps. Is this the one to invest in? It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is just $24,800.

1924 Dodge Brothers

North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois just posted this 1924 Dodge Brothers Roadster for sale this week. It is an altered hot rod project that will be an interesting ride for the right buyer. It is powered by a 327 small block Chevy engine and has a special carburetor setup. This one needs to be inspected before you buy because North Shore Classics has not yet published their full description or their usual walk-around video. You could be the first one to contact them on it. The altered modifications follow a vintage race car theme with a roadster styling. The body is rough, but it may have the right “bones” to turn into a streetable hot rod. The price is right for its current condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $19,900.

1983 Chevy Pickup

Here is another great find at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. This Jacked 1983 Chevy Pickup is a modified pickup truck hot rod C10 with 35-inch Mickey Thompson tires and 4-Wheel-Drive. Powered by a 350 small block motorwith a Turbo 350 automatic transmission, it also has a 4.10 rear end. Country Classic Cars says it runs and drives well and handles on the highway. Click here to view a walk-around video inspection and hear it run. You also can have it inspected by your third-party service for an independent review. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $14,500.

1982 Mercedes 380SL

As previously stated here in the newsletter, we may be at the tipping point where these Mercedes-Benz sports luxury cars (SL’s) are about to go up in value. While they don’t get much respect in the U.S. collector car market, they are more valuable in Europe. Here is a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 380SL which comes with both soft top and auxiliary hardtop. It is being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. The color is Sun Yellow which was a very popular color among Mercedes buyers back then. It has the 3.8L V8 and a 3-speed automatic transmission. While the body shows it wear, they tell us the interior is fairly clean. The consignor states that it is all original. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $12,000

1984 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur

Country Classic Cars is coming up with some amazing deals this week. Here is a 1984 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur which they just listed for sale. They note that this one is a low mileagle example showing only 52,640 miles said to be original. The Silver Spur is powered by a 6.75-liter V8 engine that produced 220 horsepower. The interior is in very good condition with some minor imperfections. Click this link to view a walk-around video inspection. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesdat. The asking price is $19,500 for one of the most desirable luxury marques in the world.

1999 Jaguar XK8 Roadster

A gorgeous 1999 Jaguar XK8 Roadster was just listed by Specialty Sales Classics in Fairfield, California. This is the modern day ancestor of the famous classic XKE by Jaguar. This one has a sharp looking silver exterior finish with black leather and beautiful hardwood accents inside. It has a 4.0L V8 engine under the hood that is paired to a 4-speed select shift automatic transmission. Specialty Sales Classics tells us it comes fully optioned with climate control interior and power “everything.” They say it still have only 41,258 miles. Click this link to view a video start up and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. Their asking price is $15,990.

1993 Cadillac Allante

Not many of the haloed Cadillac Allante series have been maintained like this 1993 Cadillac Allante being offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. It comes with its maintenance records (see photos) and history. See it here in its Bright Red finish combined with a Sand interior and equipped with a 4.6L V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, twin exhaust finishers, four-wheel disc brakes, convertible soft top, digital dashboard and Pininfarina badging. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $12,000.  You have to admit that is a lotta’ car for the money.

Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:

Sold Thru Cars On Line

Here are some of the comments from happy sellers who were nice enough to tell us about their experience advertising on the Cars On Line website.

Henry from Alberta, Canada, told us he SOLD his 1967 Mustang GT Fastback S-Code through a COL Run Till Sold ad. “Yes, I sold through Cars-On-Line,” he told us as he marked his car SOLD on our site. “The sale of my car was easy thanks to Cars-On-Line.” He listed the ad about three weeks ago.

A.J. from Chesapeake, Virginia told us he SOLD his Starburst Ruby Red 1936 Ford Tudor street rod on account of his Cars-On-Line Run Till Sold ad.

Bill from Torrance, California told us it “Sure took a long time” to sell his 1964 Plymouth Savoy through Cars-On-Line. Sometimes it happens that way. But he saved a lot of money with his Run Till Sold ad. Only paid $45.00 to sell a car. The ad ran for nearly three months.
