Model 52 Convertible
Measuring over 17-feet long and rolling on 18-inch painted wood spoke wheels, the gi-normous 1932 Pierce Arrow Model 52 Convertible Sedan was a sight to see. It even has a rear trunk and artifulated fenders connected by wide running boards. In front the big Pierce Arrow has six lights, two horns and a large grille. The tan and brown two-toned paint was significant for only elegant motorcars wore such treatment. It is available to purchase at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania this week.
The drivetrain on this massive classic Pierce Arrow is made up of a 429 ci V12 engine with a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 150 horsepower. It has a floor mounted shifter which controls the 3-speed manual transmission as power is routed to the rear wheels with 4.21 gears. The car operates on a 12-volt electrical system. When tested on the Classic Auto Mall’s test loop outside the mall, they say it drives the way it was intended. The big wheels and heavy chassis absorbs the road and smoothes out the ride.
They note some imperfections and chips in the finish. Read the descripton on their ad page for more detailed information. They say the interior is artfully crafted with leather door panels and wood trim. There are interesting features in the rear passenger area. The dash is padded in leather.
Look through dozens of detailed photos on the ad page. It is an excellent subject for a recommissioning. By acquiring such a masterpiece you become a part of history.

Classic Car News This Week
How To Buy A Car Online
The question we get asked the most here at the Cars-On-Line.com office is, “How do you buy a car off the internet?” When making the decision to buy a collector car, a buyer first needs to decide what they’ll want to be doing with the car. Criteria for a purchase will be wildly different for a car that’s going to be competing at national shows than one that’s going to be driven as a daily driver. When considering a car as an investment there are even more aspects of a purchase to consider. If you think of your car as an investment, you may want to read a series of articles we’ve written to help potential buyers navigate the concerns with buying a car online. Click here to find our archive of “How-To-Buy” information, a series of articles that will help you make a purchase successfully and without worry.
Pre-Purchase Inspection Report
How do you make an online purchase safely? It is still a mystery to some collectors who are used to the “old school” way of buying cars, i.e. traveling to inspect it themselves. In the modern day world time is more valuable than money. We always tell buyers they need to concentrate on two things when buying a car online.
1. Have the car inspected before you buy.
2. Use a Bill of Sale to document the transaction.
To help buyers with the first item on our “Must Do” list, we have created the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service with a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada. You can read our inspection sample reports on the COL Inspection Referral Service page on our website. For example, you will see a report that was done on a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. An Indiana man had been wanting a ’70 Trans Am all his life. When he spotted one for sale in Cedar Rapids, Iowa he ordered an inspection report through our service. He wanted us to help him verify if it could be original to the factory build, and he was worried about the body, bondo, suspension issues, etc. Click here to read the pre-purchase inspection report.
This Weeks Featured Stories
Maserati MC12
One of the most significant supercars of our time has been listed for sale this week by Legendary Motorcar Company, the premier exotic car dealer in North America. They just posted a 2005 Maserati MC12 for sale. It has the naturally aspirated 6.0L V12 producing 630 horsepower modified from the Ferrari Enzo. It also has a 6-speed Cambiocorsa paddle shifted transmission. Why is it significant? Of all the important supercars of the early 2000’s (including the McLaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo), this one stands out for its racing pedigree. They were purpose built to homologate Maserati’s FIA GT racing program. Between 2005 and 2010, Maserati won many FIA championships. Today the MC12 is regarded as a “halo car” for the ages, combining Ferrari performance with Maserati’s design elegance. This one is finished in a factory Bianco Fuji over Blue Victory color scheme with a Blu leather interior. It is considered an open-top car with a factory hardtop, and comes with a wheel socket, tire inflation kit, factory tow hook, service and warranty supplement, and a detailed history. Our readers are treated to over 80 photos on the Legendary Motorcar Company ad page. The opportunity to acquire a car this important does not come along often.
1957 Corvette Fuelie
A few months ago we did a full feature story on a 1957 Corvette Fuelie Convertible that had a real 283/283 Rochester fuel injected small block. We were surprised this week when another real solid lifter 1957 Corvette Fuelie Convertible was listed for sale on Long Island, New York. The rare classic Corvette Fuelie is being advertised by WeBe Autos, an internet broker representing a private party seller there. They tell us the correct Onyx Black Corvette has been restored by the experts at Vette Dreams. It is reported to have the numbers matching 283/283 hp Rochester Ram Jet fuel injected engine, and a 3-speed manual transmission. There are only 85 miles on the car since its concours quality restoration. The options include power windows and a rare functional power top. They say, “the high-compression V8 breathes through correct mechanical lifters and channels its crisp throttle response through a standard 3-speed manual transmission, offering a pure, unadulterated 1950s sports car driving experience.” You may never find another with this kind of provenance.
Mach 1 Cobra Jet
Ford collectors are aware that Mustang Mach 1’s are continuing to escalate in value. Here is the top of the food chain when it comes to Mach 1 Mustangs. A 1971 Mustang Mach 1 429 Cobra Jet with Ram Air was just listed for sale by Coyote Classics out of Greene, Iowa. Now, this one is not for the purist. It was restored to its correct factory color and bucket seat interior. However, it is now powered by a 575 horsepower 460 crate engine with Cobra Jet aluminum heads and plenty of performance upgrades. The suspension, power and handling will give you a totally different experience. The restoration was done around 2005, and the owner at that time said he invested about $100,000 in the redo. The undercarriage is as clean as the top. Click here to watch a walk-around video and then take it for a test drive. You will be amazed.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1974 VW Karmann Ghia
The little yellow Karmann was owned by just one family since 1991, and you can tell it was driven sparingly. This 1974 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe is said to be a rare survivor with a title verified 19,681 actual miles. It is being offered for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They say the car is not perfect, citing the age, but they state that they would have no qualms about taking it to a car show today. They indicate that it is turnkey ready to have fun and cruise. You may consider it to be in driver quality condition because of some patina under the hood, but it is fully intact. It has disc brakes up front and they say the calipers are new. Read the detailed description on the ad page. You won’t find a ’74 with this low of miles very often.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II
Ordered for the wife of a real estate developer, this 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II came as a “left-hand drive” version, one of a limited number ever bulit that way. She ordered the car as a drophead coupe conversion to convertible, built to USA Specification Issue 2. Other features included power steering, electric windows, Sundym glass, and a split bench type front seat. It changed hands a few times and ended up with a previous owner in New York with just 43,131 miles on the odometer. It has had minimal use the past 13 years, so some recommissioning is in order. But this should be a relatively easy job to get it back on the road safely. It is an extremely desirable find.

1969 Hemi Road Runner
A highly sought after 1969 Plymouth Hemi Road Runner in purple paint is on target to become our most popular ad this week. The private party owner from Ontario, Canada just dropped the price. And it is a big drop. This one will send shockwaves throughout the Mopar community. Although it has a ’67 Hemi 425 horsepower engine, this Road Runner is so nice it runs and drives as if it were brand new, says the seller. It is not numbers matching, he will tell you. However, he says every nut and bolt on this muscle car is brand new. It has a 4-speed, Dana 60, 3.54 gears and a lift-off hood. He says it was restored on a rotisserie. When he first listed the car he was asking $130,000. But just this week he dropped the price to $100,000.

The desire to know what it is like to drive a big block Camaro is so enticing that collectors have been driven to build replicas of the first generation Camaros in order to put 427’s and 454’s in them. Deals of the Day
1966 Ford Fairlane
A private party seller from Missoula, Montana just listed his performance modified 1966 Ford Fairlane for sale. You have to admit, it really takes a nice picture. Not only that, but it is now powered by a Windsor based 408 cubic inch engine producing 475 horsepower, according to the ad description. It transfers power via a TKX 5-speed manual tranmsission, and has 4-wheel disc brakes. The seller says that one of the reasons it looks so good in the photos is that it has “beautiful laser straight paint,” no rust, and under 5,000 miles on the engine and drivetrain. The high performance Fairlane is said to be “gorgeous inside and out.” You might want to have it inspected before you buy just to confirm the condition class. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. He is only asking $27,000. That’s a lotta’ car for the money.
1950 Ford Deluxe Convertible
A sweet 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe Convertible was listed for sale this week by HaggleMe, an internet broker who is representing a private party seller. They say it is a “crowd favorite” wherever it goes. It still has the Flathead V8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake. IT has a manual transmission, and has been converted to a 12-volt electrical system. They put in a new gas tank and aluminum radiator. The interior was redone a while back to period correct look. Very little wear is showing, although the door panel material is loose. You should have it inspected to determine the condition of the sheet metal and rocker panels. They say the X member has been reinforced making the frame “solid.” Overall, this is a desirable “shoebox” car which they say “runs and drives great.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $19,900.
1977 Corvette T-Top
They say this 1977 Corvette Coupe with T-Tops is mechanically sound and could be a warm weather daily driver of sorts. True, the photos will show imperfections in the body, and the interior really needs help. But this is a Corvette Stingray with T-Tops and a 4-speed. It is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. If you are interested in restoring it, they note that it is a matching numbers California car. The original Tan Bucksin paint over a dark brown interior was an attractive blend back n the day. The C3 is a real Stingray with the long hood, flowing fenders and road ready attitude. The 350 ci small block engine is fed by a 4-barrel carburetor and links up with a 4-speed manual transmission. It has power steering and four-wheel disc brakes. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $11,750.
1985 Mercedes 280SL
This is a desirable 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280SL which is considered a Euro Spec car. That means it came with the 2.8 liter inline six cylinder engine producing 182 horsepower. The European model is lighter than the cars imported to the U.S. The bumpers were smaller and had the European style headlights. In addition, the European models had different tuning for better performance compared to U.S. spec which required more stringent emission controls. This one is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. The Anthracite Grey metallic 280SL has both a color-matched removable hardtop and a folding soft top. It has Bosch fuel injection, air conditioning and an automatic transmission. Although it is a Euro spec car, Beverly Hills Car Club says the headlights were put back to U.S. spec. But it does have the Euro “thin” bumpers. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $17,500. You may never see another 280SL at this price.
1980 MGB Roadster
Here is an opportunity to own a very respectable looking two-seater sports car at a very good price. The charming 1980 MGB Roadster is seen here in its Carmine Red finish with a beige interior and black convertible top. Power comes from a 1.8 liter inline 4 cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual transmission. It is being offered for sale by Legendary Motors, LLC, in Beverly, Massachusetts. They tell us that when the engine was rebuilt they put a mild cam in it for better performance and added dual SU carburetors, so this one powers up way better than a factory original car. This MG is running on steel Rostyle wheels wrapped in Sumitomo tires. They consider the beige interior to be in good condition overall. They say the vinyl convertible top is in excellent condition. A well sorted convertible, they say it runs well and shifts through the gears without effort. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. The asking price is only $10,900.
1950 Willys Overland Jeepster
You can bet this pastel pink 1950 Willys Overland Jeepster will turn some heads when you pass bye. It has undergone a professionally documented restoration (book/pictures available to review) and has been exceptionally cared for since completion. This information was give to us by the private party owner from Detroit Lakes, Michigan who listed it for sale. He says it has been upgraded with a dependable Ford 200 cubic-inch inline-six engine paired with an automatic transmission, making it a reliable and enjoyable cruiser that’s ready to be driven. According to his description, the professional restoration has been documented with photos, and has been exceptionally cared for ever since. The seller does recommend that the convertible top needs replacing. You may have it inspected before you buy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is now just $12,500.
1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL
The yellow paint used by Mercedes-Benz in 1979 was a very popular color which they referred to as just 624 “Yellow.” Used from 1972 until 1979, this paint was clear coated and beautifully laid down from the factory. Here is a great example. The 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL you see here was just listed for sale at Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. It has two tops, a removable hardtop and a manual soft top. They tell us the air blows cold with a new compressor and is converted to 134A refrigerant. The engine is a 4.5L V8, automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. They say the owner had it for almost 25 years and took care of it as you can see. Look through dozens of detailed photos on the ad page. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $16,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
