Aero Winged Warrior
Although the Plymouth Superbird was a one-year wonder back in 1970, it had an indelible impact on NASCAR racing. Richard Petty, who had left Plymouth for Ford during the 1969 NASCAR season, came back to Plymouth for 1970 just to drive the Superbird in NASCAR competition. And, man, did that turn out to be a great move. He won 18 NASCAR events out of 40 races in 1970 in his Hemi Superbirds. Davey Hamilton, another driver for Petty Enterprises, won three more. But with speeds approaching 200 miles per hour, it may have been too fast for its own good. For the following 1971 season, NASCAR felt they had to outlaw the Plymouth Superbird from competing. The rule changes they incurred made it impossible for the Superbird to compete ever again. Chrysler had to abandon their “Winged Warrior” program and the aero wars came to an end.
This week, a Vitamin C Orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird was listed for sale by Unique Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota. They note that it has the big block 440 engine and an automatic transmission. It is one of only 1,084 big block 440 Superbirds ever built. And, it is one of only 626 original factory Superbirds produced with automatic transmissions. Even though the asking price is way below the average value on a ’70 Superbird, their photos show a very straight and solid Mopar muscle car. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. Take one look at the undercarriage and you get the whole story.
The salient feature of the Superbird was a giant wing that looked like it came out of the “space age” of aerodynamic design. In fact, it did. Chrysler used its rocket scientists to help design the aerodynamics. The wing on the Superbird was three feet high, looming over the rear deck lid. It created a tremendous amount of downforce to keep the Superbird on the ground, especially on the NASCAR super speedways with high banked ovals. One of the guys who had something to do with the design wrote in his book that the rear spoiler was raised up three feet high so you could get the trunk open on the car. Another story has it that, in testing, they just kept increasing the size of the spoiler, and each time they made it taller the times got faster. They finally stopped testing at the three-foot height.
Since only 1,920 Superbirds were built by Chrysler, they are very rare today. That makes them incredibly valuable to Mopar collectors. This one is priced right for a quick sale.

Classic Car News This Week
Ferrari at Mecum
The top sale at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee last weekend was no surprise. We had previewed the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO in last week’s newsletter. The bidding on Saturday started at $25,000,000 and the hammer fell when the final bid reached $35,000,000. It was a kingly sum for a very rare sports car. The ’62 Ferrari was one of only 36 GTOs built by Ferrari. It was the most significant sale of the year so far. The legendary Ferrari was one of the offerings from the Bachman Ferrari Collection. The collection of eight famous Ferraris sold in total for $125,000,000. Our photo jounalist Bob Boberg was on hand to record the amazing sale on Saturday. Click here to read his account of what happened. The Mecum Auction in Kissimmee is one of the most important auction sales of the year. By looking at what these special classic and collector cars sell for we can somewhat predict the barometer of the collector car market for 2026.
Pre-Purchase Inspection
When a Florida buyer asked us to look at a 1959 Cadillac 2-Door Hardtop for him we were excited to do the pre-purchase inspection. The look and stance on the Cadillac restomod did not disappoint. However we did find some problems with the custom build. You can read the sample report here. It does take some expertise to own and maintain a car with Air Ride. You will note that the inspector took photos of where the magnet held, also. Many more photos were made available to the buyer.
The first item on a buyer’s “To Do” list should be to contact the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service. Buying a collector car is much different than buying a new or used late model car. It is always a “buyer beware” type of sale. With a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada, your first line of protection in any sale is a COL Collector Car Inspection. Learn more about collector car inspections when you read our COL Inspection Referral Service page.

Real Shelby Cobra
When the Shelby Cobra won the 1963 SCCA A-Production Championship, history was made with Ken Miles piloting the Cobra to American sports car dominance. With a 289 ci V8 Ford engine, the little Cobra weighed in at less than 2,000 pounds, yet was producing 271 horsepower. It was blistering fast and powerful for such a small package. The Cobra set 23 speed records at Riverside in 1963. In 1964, the Cobra won its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring, beating Ferrari’s 250 GTOs. This week, one of the original 1964 Shelby Cobra roadsters was listed for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. This is chassis number CSX2133, an authentic and registered aluminum bodied Shelby Cobra and one of only about 100 that were built in 1964. It has a known history. It was repainted in Guardsman Blue in 1984. It is one of the first cars to wear the final badging style. Backing up a blueprinted 289 ci V8 is a Toploader 4-speed manual transmission. They believe it is one of the few that came with rack n pinion steering. This is truly an historic find.
First SS396 Impalas
In 1965 Chevrolet put a big block 396 in their popular Impala model. They believe only a few hundred of these 396 Super Sport Impalas were ever built. So when a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS396 Convertible was listed this week it caught our attention. The Tuxedo black Impala was listed for sale by Universal Muscle Cars in Linthicum, Maryland. It has a white convertible top and red interior. Universal tells us “the body is super straight, super solid and extremely clean including the floors, trunk and frame.” They say the interior was restored and looks like it just rolled off the production line. The transmission is a 2-speed Powerglide and 12-bolt rear end. Options includepower steering, power brakes, power top, new dual exhaust, original AM radio, and original 14″ wheels with spinner SS hubcaps resting on new white wall radial tires. They say it is turnkey ready for a new owner.
Auctions

We are interested in seeing more new additions to the GAA Classic Winter Auction 2026 as they are being added in real time to our New Listings this coming week. Several important collections of highly desirable collector cars will be offered for sale for the first time at the GAA Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina, February 19-21, 2026. All will be offered at No Reserve. That’s amazing! Dedicated to their following of classic car, muscle car and unique specialty vehicle buyers, the GAA Classic is well respected in the collector car community as a source of rare collector cars and trucks. They expect over 750 vehicles to be sold during the three-day sale next month. Their selection of classic muscle cars, as well as classic cars is especially interesting this year. Here are some you will be interested in, all at No Reserve.
1957 Oldsmobile J-2 Convertible
Offered at No Reserve and coming out of the highly regarded Taylor Automotive Collection, this 1957 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire Convertible is a real J-2 Tri-Power original with the Batwing dual-snorkel air cleaner. It has been restored as you can see from the many photos on their ad page at the link. The Tri-Power package was an option when you ordered a Starfire with the 371 ci Rocket V8 engine. NASCAR took one look at these J-2 cars and wasted no time in banning them from NASCAR cometition that year. They were so fast, they considered them to have an unfair advantage over other automobile manufacturers. This one comes in red with a red leather interior. It has a 4-speed Jetaway Hydra-Matic transmission, power seats, power windows, power brakes and a Wonder Bar radio.
1949 Cadillac Series 62
1949 Cadillacs are hard to find in this kind of condition. Wait till you see the photos of this 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan. The undercarriage is amazing. The interior has been restored with new upholstery, carpet and headliner. And it is now served by Vintage air conditioning. But under the hood you will find a new GM 350 engine mated to a TH350 transmission, important upgrades if you want to take it touring. The car has been refinished in its original Burgundy color, and all the chrome and trim has been restored or replaced. The look and stance will win you over. Other than the drivetrain it has been preserved in its original form. It will be offered for sale at No Reserve on Friday, January 20 at the Auto Palace in Greensboro. If you study these photos, you might be tempted to bid to win.
2007 Shelby GT Hertz Convertible
To celebrate one of the great stories in automotive history, the Ford Motor Company came out with a retro version of the Hertz Rent-A-Racer, a Shelby GT sports car in the Hertz Rental Car livery just like the one Carroll Shelby promoted in 1966. The 2007 Shelby GT Hertz Convertible is a tribute to the Shelby Mustang race cars which were ordered through Shelby American back in 1966 to be used as rental vehicles in an unprecedented promotion. Those original Hertz Shelby Mustangs would be know in the history books as Rent-A-Racers. So, in memory of the Rent-A-Racers back in the day, Ford Motor Company once again teamed up with Hertz Rent-A-Car to promote a special Hertz Edition Shelby GT beginning in 2006. But it wasn’t untill 2007 that Ford produced a convertible version of the Hertz Shelby GT. Next month, a very collectible 2007 Shelby GT Hertz Convertible will be auctioned off at the GAA Classic Winter Auction. It is offered at No Reserve from the Cousin’s Corral Collection. Collector Cars with Low Miles
50th Anniversary Corvette
North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois came up with an amazing low mile Corvette this week. They listed a 2003 Corvette 50th Anniversary Convertible which they say has only 15 actual miles from new. How does this happen? Well, in 2003 this Anniversary Edition convertible was the hottest thing in the automotive world. The owner decided to buy it and tuck it away for its future collector value. In the meantime he showed it and won an NCRS Certified Top Flight award, Bloomington Gold Triple Diamond Award, Concours Gold award and Bloomington Gold Survivor. This one has a 6-speed manual transmission and 3.42 gear, with Magnetic Selective Ride Control, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes and Active Handling. North Shore Classics tells us the factory plastic protection is still on the seats.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
427 Q Code Project
A private party seller from Maryland has just listed his 1964 Ford Galaxie 427 side oiler for sale this week. The restoration is mostly complete with some final assembly needed. He says the car was done on a rotisserie. The motor was rebuilt by renowned engine builder, Bill Coleman of Baltimore, MD. Plus the car has all new suspension, brake lines, and wiring. Besides needing final assembly, the car needs the interior seats to be reupholstered and the trim needs to be buffed and installed along with the bumpers and exhaust, etc. Most of the parts to finish the car will go with the sale. To sum it up, all the hard work seems to have already been done. So what you get is a straight body that has already been painted in base coat, clear coat. It just needs your expertise to finish it.

Price Reduced
1969 Dodge Dart Swinger
A private party seller from Canada just dropped the price on his 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger this week. This Mopar has a rebuilt 340 engine with only 1,000 miles on the redo. The transmission is a 4-speed and has been rebuilt also. He says the paint is “very good,” with new rear bumper, taillight bezel and lenses. He tells us it runs and drives “very well.” Take a look at the photos. The car presents well and the interior and engine compartment are really clean. From the one photo we assume it is stored and covered, so it is well taken care of. You can have it inspected before you buy … but hurry! He was asking $45,000 in Canadian currency. He just dropped the price to $29,000 in U.S. currency. (That would be about a $5,000 reduction in price.)

Yes, that is Sub-Lime Green finish on this 426 Hemi powered convertible. The car was born a 383 4-speed with a bucket seat interior that shows well. Deals of the Day
1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible
It is a bargain hunters paradise this week on the Cars-On-Line website. Never have we seend so many low priced collector cars of this quality. For instance, this 1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was listed for sale this week out of the inventory at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. This California car showcases a Deep Brown Metallic exterior, paired with a two-tone Brown and Tan (Sandalwood) interior that delivers classic elegance and period-correct style. The big V8 engine has a 4-barrel carburetor and air conditioning. It came from the factory with a power adjusted bench seat. It has a power convertible top, 15-inch 5-spoke mag wheels and sports a muscle car attitude. This body was one of the most spacious builds Cadillac ever made. You get all this and more. The price is right. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $22,750.
1927 Ford Model T Coupe
Some of the top wholesalers in the country are bringing in some valuable collector cars this week. Our good friends at Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota have listed quite a few that are what we consider “bargain priced.” For instance, this 1927 Ford Model T Coupe has its wood spoked wheels and an all steel body with a 177 ci inline four cylinder engine. The battery is found in the trunk and it has a push button ignition on the floor. They tell us that the headlights work properly. That’s pretty good for a car that is nearly 100 years old. It has a planetary gear transmission. You should have it inspected before you buy because Unique says it has some minor imperfections. The paint and a cracked rear window will have to be addressed. If you find anything you don’t like, Unique says they will work with you to make it right. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $10,900.
1958 Ford Skyliner Retractable
Beverly Hills Car Club also listed this very desirable 1958 Ford Skyliner Retractable for sale. It has a classic looking 1950’s style two-tone paint and interior. The colors are Raven Black and Sun Gold. The interior has Colonial white textured vinyl upholstery complemented with Royal Scot Black tweed. This is a highly styled look for its day. The retractable roof system is unmistakenly “ahead of its time.” Its retractable hardtop system used nearly 600 feet of wiring, multiple electric motors, and a series of relays and limit switches, folding and retracting the roof into the trunk area in under a minute. We are still impressed watching it go up and down today. This icon from the golden era of automotive design will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is just $29,950.
1954 Chevy 3100 Custom
A driver quality red 1954 Chevy 3100 Custom was quite a sharp custom in its day. It still shows well and has a very nice looking black interior. It is another offering from Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They specialize in finding great collector cars that have been forgotten and “lost in storage” over the years. The steel body has been lowered and redone and upgraded with a 350 ci V8 engine, automatic transmission, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, power steering, power windows, a wood bed and 15-inch wheels. It now has dual exhaust, bucket seats, dual side mirrors, a Pioneer radio, AutoMeter gauges and a fender-mounted antenna. Have it inspected to get a real feel for what condition class this custom truck is in. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is $26,500.
1990 Chevrolet G20 Conversion
Conversion vans became popular again during Covid, with families wanting to get outdoors and camp. Conversion vans were not real collectible until then. But younger generations of families rediscovered them because of their utility and low cost to own. Streetside Nashville just listed a 1990 Chevrolet G20 Conversion Van which looks real sharp in the photos. Have it inspected before you buy to determine its condition class. But the photos look pretty good. It would be worth checking out. It has a 5.7L V8 and 4-speed automatic transmission. It comes with a clean history and Streetside says it was well maintained. They say it is more than a van … more like a “rolling time capsule.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. The asking price is $19,995.
1972 Lincoln Continental
A serious luxury car in its own right, this 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV is one of our best deals this week in the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter. It is being offered for sale at Unique Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota. They tell us it is out of long-term ownership, and it gets minimal use these days. It has the big powerful 460 ci V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission. It is equipped with power steering, power brakes and factory air conditioning. The paint could use a redo, they note, but, mechanically the car has been recently serviced. It has a new fuel pump, sending unit, front and rear brakes, muffler, rebuilt carburetor and fresh oil. Click here to view a walk-around video and hear it run. They say it runs out well and drives smooth as a Lincoln should. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $13,900.
1991 Buick Reatta
When this car was introduced it was supposed to be a game changer for Buick. It was their entry into the sports car market. It was in its final year of production when this 1991 Buick Reatta Convertible came off the production line. It is now being offered for sale at Streetside Classics in Ft Worth, Texas. They tell us it has been very well preserved with just 34k miles and all stock original. That will auger well for its future collector value. And make no mistake, this will be one of the cars the next generation of collectors will cherish. Because it is a final year production car, Buick equipped it wil the 3.8 liter V8 engine with a 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission. It has fully independent suspension and 4-wheel ABS disc brakes. Look at the factory Slate Grey leather interior in the photos. And it comes with power windows, power locks, power seats and power mirrors. All books and records come with the sale. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. They are asking $16,995.
