Gorgeous Survivor
A true car collector puts a high value on originality when it comes to collector cars. When a car retains most of its original components and comes in its original trim we call it a “survivor.” This week, Mershon’s, a well known collector car dealer out of Springfield, Ohio, listed a 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 which they consider to be a “Gorgeous Survivor.” What makes it even more interesting is that this one is a 4-speed. If you were a kid in the mid-1960’s this would have been the equivalent of a “factory hot rod.”
Mershon’s just listed this 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 which still retains its Code 922 Ember Red paint and a Code 879 red interior with bucket seats and a console. Wow! What a blast from the past! They tell us this car has only 23,000 actual miles with a great history. Purchased new from Earl Davis Chevrolet in Mansfield Ohio, this Impala SS was later traded in at Kerr Motors in Shelby, Ohio. Don Harveys brother, who worked at Kerr Motors, told him about a beautiful ’64 Impala SS, which Don would end up purchasing. From 1964 until 2025 this Impala was garage kept and very well cared for. Now they say it had a dealer installed replacement motor installed under warranty in 1965, so the casting number is for a 1965 409 engine.
They tell us that even the paint is original on this car. The SS 409 features a tachometer, engine turned dash and exterior trim, power steering, AM radio, chrome dual snorkel air cleaner and stainless wheel covers. Mershon’s put the ’64 Impala on a turntable so you can see it in a 360 degree video. Click here to view the video. What is really interesting about this car is how perfect it is in every way. What a beauty.

Most Popular Car on COL
The most popular ad on our website last month was the 1969 Dodge Daytona Charger which was the featured car in the November 14th edition of the Cars-On-Line newsletter. We said in the article that the ’69 Daytona is the rarest of the “Winged Warriors,” aerodynamic cars that were purpose built to race in NASCAR. The Daytonas are even more rare than their Plymouth Superbird “cousins.” This 440 4-speed Dodge Daytona was originally sold in Canada. In fact, the seller says it was the last Canadian serial number car, and was sold in British Columbia. He believes that is still has only 18,000 original miles, and comes with a matching numbers drivetrain, fender tag, build sheet and owners manuals with a warranty book. This amazing Mopar muscle car was viewed by 1,760 interested buyers last month. Another Mopar, the 1970 Dodge Charger RT/SE from Hiram, Ohio was the second most popular ad on our site in November. It got 1,707 page views last month.

Trans Am Inspection
People always ask us how to buy a car online. It is still a mystery to some collectors who are used to the “old school” way of buying cars, i.e. traveling to inspect it themselves. In the modern day world time is more valuable than money. We always tell buyers they need to concentrate on two things they must do when buying a car online.
1. Have the car inspected before you buy.
2. Use a Bill of Sale to document the transaction.
To help buyers with the first item on our “Must Do” list, we have created the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service with a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada. You can read our inspection sample reports on the COL Inspection Referral Service page on our website. For example, you will see a report that was done on a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. An Indiana man had been wanting a ’70 Trans Am all his life. When he spotted one for sale in Cedar Rapids, Iowa he ordered an inspection report through our service. He wanted us to help him verify if it could be original to the factory build, and he was worried about the body, bondo, suspension issues, etc. You can read the report here. For the most part this car was a strong runner and in better shape than most of the cars we are asked to look at. Our report calmed his concerns and verified that this car was worth his time to research further.

1970 Chevelle SS LS6
Seen here in correct Black Cherry Poly paint, the monster block 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 dominates the atmosphere anywhere it goes. This is the top dog of muscle cars. Even Hemi Mopars have to give it respect. This beautiful SS 454/450 has been restored, and this week is for sale at Carolina Muscle Cars in Benson, North Carolina. They tell us the Ivory white interior is very clean and presents well. (Look at dozens of detailed photos on the ad page at the link.) The under carriage is really impressive. The elite muscle car comes with a factory tachometer (6500 RPM redline) and rides on 14-inch SS Rally II wheels. The engine mates up with a Muncie 4-speed transmission putting power to the pavement with a 12-bolt positraction rear end. Carolina Muscle Cars tells us it runs strong and sounds fantastic.
1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible
The top-of-the-line Edsel in 1959 was the Corsair model. Only 1,343 converibles were ever produced that year. That’s why this 1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible is so rare. It was just listed for sale in our Edsel Section by Streetside Classics out of Mesa, Arizona. While the Edsel line was sadly rejected by new car buyers back in the day, they are proudly owned by car collectors today because of their rarity. The Corsair was redesigned in 1959 to tone down the glitzy styling of earlier Edsel models. It was the only year the Corsair was available as a convertible, and it was built on the same platform as the Ranger (Ford chassis instead of the longer Mercury platform used in ‘58). It has a 332 ci V8 engine and a 2-speed automatic transmission. It has power disc brakes up front and drums in the rear, and comes with power steering and dual exhaust.

1971 Chevrolet Nova TV Car
If you’ve watched the TV show called Chop Cut Rebuild on Speed Channel or MAVTV (available on Netflix), you may remember this 1971 Chevrolet Nova Custom. It was featured in Season 9 of the TV show. The car was created to bring attention to the AMD Catalog by using AMD parts to build the Nova. From the floorpans to the rear quarters, this car was constructed using parts you can get out of the AMD catalog. A new AMD subframe anchors the build, supported by fresh steel from the floorpan to the quarters, fenders, hood, and decklid. The car is now in the inventory at RK Motors Charlotte. They told us, “It’s a true demonstration of precision manufacturing and modern fitment.” The stance is enhanced by 18-inch Schott MOD5 Exl wheels, with Yokohama Adva Sport tires. Under the hood is a 6.0 iron-block LS built by Grimes Automotive. It breathes through a Holley 4-barrel and has LS3 type heads. Long-tube Hedman headers feed a full stainless Pypes exhaust. This restomod pro touring type build has a Hotchkis Sport suspension with tubular control arms, front sway bar and a lowered stance. Click the video window above to see if you approve.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
Malibu Pro Street
You might wonder why this 1979 Chevy Malibu Pro Street is in the Project Car Section this week. The car looks solid and ready to race in the photos. But the seller is selling the car as a roller, no engine. You get the mini-tubbed roller only with the ladder bar coil over 12-bolt rearend originally fron a 1st gen Camaro. It has the pricy rear end intact and a powerglide transmission with stall converter in the deal. But they are selling the GM steel body without the engine. Everything else goes with, including headers, exhaust, fuel system, instruments , MSD ignition, weld wheels, etc.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:
1970 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible from Keoma, Alberta, Canada
1980 Chevy Monza from London, Ontario, Canada
1951 Studebaker Commander, Classic Auto Mall, PA

1963 Chevy Nova
An older collector from Algonac, Michigan posted his 1963 Chevy Nova for sale recently. This is a very nicely done custom restoration. It has a 350 ci V8 crate engine and new front end with a sway bar. The front end work was done by Church Boys Racing. It has power steering, power brakes and a sharp looking custom interior (based on the photos.) Look how clean the under carriage looks in the photos. And this car gets driven. The seller set the price at $45,000 when he first listed it. But just this week he dropped the price to $37,000. You know it’s worth that price all day.

Deals of the Day
1986 Camaro Z28
The Third Generation of Camaros was built on the F-body platform beginning in 1982. This was a much more comfortable and tech savvy Camaro than had ever been seen before. Here is a 1986 Camaro Z28 that might look and feel like a stock Camaro of the Third Gen, but that big hood bulge gives it away that this is a street machine, built to the hilt with a Supercharged V8. Although body cladding still has the Z28 emblems, the cowl hood and deeply staggered sized tires on 15-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels sets the rear up high and the front aggressively forward. Under that hood rages a 355 ci V8 with Comp Cam, Weiand supercharger, 2.02i/1.60e valve heads, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Transitioning power to a Ford 9” rear end, it enjoys a 3.73 rear end and positraction. This beast will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $26,000.
1977 Corvette T-Top
Not just an old Corvette, this 1977 Corvette T-Top Coupe has a little extra under the hood. It was just posted for sale by Haggle Me, an internet broker, at a very low price considering the potential here. First of all, it is said to be numbers matching. But the 350 has been freshened with a nice hydraulic Comp Cam and 110 lope separation so you know it sounds good. The Turbo 400 automatic works well with the extra power. What more, its comes with power steering, power brakes, tilt-telescopic steering wheel and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo. It was originally a factory A/C car, but not currently working. This is a better than average driver with a great price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $14,500.
1972 Chevrolet Malibu
You don’t find a solid survivor in this type of condition very often. This is a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 4-Door Sedan. It is being offered for sale at Rare Rides in Statesville, North Carolina. They say it is a “turnkey cruiser.” They call it a survivor with just 51k actual miles. The condition would confirm the low miles. It sits on a set of Rally wheels and new Cooper Cobra tires. In driver class condition, it does have a few dings and scratches here and there. The paint appears to be an older repaint. They say the 350 ci V8 is reliable, mating well with the 3-speed automatic transmission. The drive is nice with the factory power steering. It has manual drum brakes. The car originally started its life in Idaho. If you are interested in a very original 4-door Chevrolet, this may be for you. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $19,995.
2003 Porsche Boxster
Here is a great car for your wife to drive. It is a 2003 Porsche Boxster, the classic looking two-seater sports car with German automotive know-how built it. This one is being offered for sale by Sovereign Auto Group, a Michigan wholesaler that takes in some interesting trade-ins. They say this one has only 37,000 miles, and comes with Tiptronic transmission and 2.7L Flat 6 engine. They also noted that this Midnight Blue Metallic beauty is extra clean. It has a Metropol Blue soft top, 17-inch Boxstr S II wheels with brand new tires, Porsche stability managementXenon headlamps, Porsche CDR23 stereo, Porsche carpet mats, and power rear spoiler. Not only does it drive excellent, they say it comes with over $10,000 in factory options. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is only $17,000.
1978 Chevrolet Nova
Chevrolet was still producing the Nova in 1978, long after the muscle car era had ended. But you would not be able to buy one like this from the factory. This 1978 Chevrolet Nova is a street machine built the way muscle cars were made in a bygone era. With a 396 ci V8 producing 491 horsepower, it is a street custom wrapped in classic 1970’s styling. The automatic transmission pairs well with the engine and the exhaust delivers a deep performance sound. The stance enhances the appearance with set of US Mags wheels. With the big block rumble, it will let people know you are arriving at the local cruise-in. The interior shows some wear but cleans up nice. Click here to watch a short walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. Their asking price is $19,900.
1979 Datsun 280Z
The collector car market is always changing. But with Gen-Xers, the Millenial generation and Gen-Zers now entering the market as buyers, the types of cars being searched on the internet is evolving. For instance, many Gen-Xers are interested in cars such as this 1979 Datsun 280Z, a sports car that was so popular when they were growing up. The 280Z was a very refined version of the Datsun sports car series. 1979 was the last year for the 280Z. This one is being offered for sale at GearHead Classics in Sherman, Texas. Under the hood sits the legendary L28 2.8-liter inline six, a smooth-revving workhorse known for its durability and unmistakable exhaust note. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $23,999.
2006 Mazda RX-8
I’ve always thought that the Mazda RX-8 was one of the sharpest looking sedans ever produced. It has a definitive Euro look, clean, crisp and sharp lines. With the Renesis Two Rotor Wankel engine it produces 212 horsepower, more than enough for a small coupe. But not all used cars are equal. That’s why we wanted to show you this Velocity Red Mica 2006 Mazda RX-8 Coupe just listed for sale by Primo Classics International in Lakeland, Florida. It has the 6-speed Paddle Shifted Sport Automatic and limited slip differential. What is really important about this one though is its condition. Primo Classics International tells us it has had meticulous care and presents well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $14,500.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
