Rare AMC Muscle Car
Nearly all of the 1970 AMC Rebel Machines you see on the market today have the standard Red, White and Blue paint scheme. Even AMC collectors don’t know that the Rebel Machine was available in other colors. For 1970 they even included some of the Big Bad colors which were offered on the 1969 AMX’s.
This week a 1970 AMC Rebel Machine was offered for sale by a Kentucky collector. It is the first one we’ve ever seen in factory Big Bad Orange paint. It had remained in the same family for 53 years, and is still 100 percent numbers matching, says the current owner. He says it had one repaint 25 years ago. It is one of the few to exist today as recorded in The Machine Registry.
There were a total of 2,326 Rebel Machines built for the 1970 model year. It was the first and only year that AMC was to manufacture The Machine. They were available for order in October of 1969. The first 1,000 Machines were painted in the AMC Red, White and Blue Machine paint scheme.
Not all the Rebel Machines came in the Red, White and Blue paint scheme (which was called the Machine paint scheme.) After January 1, 1970 you could order the Rebel Machine in any of the 18 colors on the American Motors pallette. In addiditon to the fifteen standard colors, they made three of the “Big Bad” colors available from 1969. So you could order The Machine in Big Bad Green, Big Bad Blue or Big Bad Orange after that date. The hood and scoop were painted Shadow Black when the solid colors were ordered.
When The Machine came along, AMC was building a reputation for creating High Performance muscle cars at prices that seemed a discount to other manufacturers. The first 100 Rebel Machines were built with the 390 engine producing 340 horsepower and using a Hurst shifter. The Rebel Machine was a special joint venture between Hurst Performance Research and American Motors marketing. AMC provided lots of bolt-on hot rod shop performance parts that you could put on the car yourself to up the horsepower. With a Crane cam, an Edelbrock high-rise manifold with an 850-cfm Holley, Doug Thorley headers, Thrush mufflers and a better clutch, the car magazines found they could cut two seconds off the 14.49 quarter-mile times published by AMC.
This “super rare muscle car” is for sale today in the AMC Muscle Car Section of the Cars-On-Line.com website.

Classic Car News This Week
Carlisle Auction
The Fall Carlisle Swap Meet and Car Show is underway this weekend in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. As our newsletter readers know, today is the last day of the Fall Carlisle Auction being held at the Expo Center across the street from the fairgrounds. We will be watching this highly desirable Cascade Green 1956 Corvette, Lot # 477, as it comes up for bid here. It sold for $64,000. You can watch the auction with us at this link: Live Auction link click here. You can see which cars are currently up for bid, see what the current bid is and view the upcoming vehicles as they approach the stage. They use the Proxibid technology for potential buyers. You can look at their auction inventory on our Carlisle Auction page.
’59 Cadillac Inspection
When a Florida buyer asked us to look at a 1959 Cadillac 2-Door Hardtop for him we were excited to do the pre-purchase inspection. The look and stance on the Cadillac restomod did not disappoint. However we did find some problems with the custom build. You can read the sample report here. It does take some expertise to own and maintain a car with Air Ride. You will note that the inspector took photos of where the magnet held, also. Many more photos were made available to the buyer.
The first item on a buyer’s “To Do” list should be to contact the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service. Buying a collector car is much different than buying a new or used late model car. It is always a “buyer beware” type of sale. With a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada, your first line of protection in any sale is a COL Collector Car Inspection. Learn more about collector car inspections when you read our COL Inspection Referral Service page.

1966 Shelby GT350H
When Carroll Shelby’s friend and marketing partner Peyton Cramer approached the Hertz Rental Car company about his idea to rent Shelby GT350 Mustangs to the public, it seemed like too wild a scheme to believe. The liability alone would scare rental firms today. But somehow Hertz bought the idea and the rest is history. This week a real deal original 1966 Shelby GT350H Hertz Rent-A-Racer is available for sale at Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. This one has been restored and it presents that way. Plus, it comes documented. It has been in the same family since 1968 when they bought it from Hertz. They say it looks as good in person as it does in the photos. Wow! It is nice. Click here to watch their interesting walk-around video. It has the automatic transmission, and the interior is just pristine.
Trans Am Super Duty
A rare 1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 was just listed for sale by a private party seller from Eagle River, Wisconsin. He tells us it is one of only two SD-455’s in the Super Duty Registry to come from the factory with power door locks. It is also one of only eleven that came from the factory in Buccaneer Red with a black interior and a 4-speed. Only 212 TA SD-455’s were produced by Pontiac in ’74. This one comes with PHS documentation, plus it is included in the Registry. The seller says it is all “numbers matching.” Not only does it have all the documentation needed to be in the Registry, but it comes with two full binders of photos with history of the car. Check all of the photos in the Slide Show ad on the ad page (link above.) It shows the TA to be pristine. The restoration was finished in 2006.
Ferrari GTB Short Nose
Gullwing Motor Cars out of New York just posted this 1965 Ferrari 275 Short Nose GTB for sale. It is a highly desirable marque with the six-carburetor setup. They say it was previously celebrity owned. It retains its original matching numbers engine. They estimate that only about 60 Short Nose GTB’s were originally equipped with six-carburetors. There were probably only 250 Short Nose examples produced by Ferrari altogether. Although it runs and drives, they say it will need servicing to make it appropriate for cruising. The car has been documented by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, and they say it is one of the most original examples remaining. These cars, in show quality condition, can bring from $2 million to $2.5 million in today’s collector car market.
Auctions
As the fall colors are beginning to show in the Northern states and the baseball playoffs are underway, we are reminded that the GAA Fall Classic Auction is right around the corner. It will be held at the Palace in Greensboro, North Carolina, November 7-9, 2024. We noticed that there are some very desirable rides being offered every day of the auction. The GAA Auctions are some of the best in the country. What we like about them is that you can still buy a really nice collector car here at a reasonable price. Be sure to check out their inventory at the link below.
’69 GTO Judge
It seems like we’ve seen more Carousel Red 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge originals recently than we have seen in a long time. This one will be available to bid on at the upcoming GAA Fall Classic Auction in Greensboro, North Carolina next month, November 7-9, 2024. The bidding should be scorching hot on this one. Take a look at all the photos on the ad page. It is a 4-speed car with the Ram Air hood inlet and cable control. It has power steering and a console. The owner history is known, and it will be accompanied by its PHS documentation and a copy of the original window sticker. (Both are viewable at a link on the ad page.) Click here for a walk-around video and hear it run.
Invicta Convertible
Many collectors come to the GAA Fall Classic Auction just to see the fine selection of classic cars from the 1950’s. Here is a rare one which will be sold during the “prime time” Saturday sale at the Palace. This rare 1959 Buick Invicta Convertible comes with its Buick 401 Wildcat V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and automatic transmission. Note the one-off Dynastar Fashionaire grille treatment. This classic came with a padded dash, power steering, push button radio and factory two-spoke steering wheel. It has a red split bench interior with white accents and the famous tissue dispenser. The white wall tires really set off the look of the polished wheel covers. You will look long and hard to find another like this one.
Jacked Jeep Scrambler
The hot trend in the market continues to be classic off-road resto mods. You will find a varied selection of them in the GAA auction inventory online. This Jacked 1981 AMC Jeep Scrambler Custom is an extreme example. It has a custom Corvette LS2 engine, Borla exhaust, custom CV rear driveshaft, new custom finished interior, a custom Corvette transmission and rebuilt Dana 300 transfer case. The rear axle has a Dana 60 from a ¾-ton truck and 4.88 gears. The suspension is by Fox and is custom installed. It even has power running boards and front locking hubs. One look at the photos on the ad page and you will flip over the nice work done on this really sharp off-road 4X4 truck.

1971 Camaro Custom
A car guy from Rice Lake, Wisconsin just listed his super sharp 1971 Camaro for sale. It was built to look like a split bumper Z28 RS but this car is so much more. In the video you’ll hear the rumble of a 496 stroker motor and feel the grip of the 4-speed manual transmission. This classic muscle car puts out nearly 500 horsepower and you can almost feel the torquey-ness as the wheels chirp in the video test drive. Click the video window above to take it for a test drive.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
Like New Mark V
It always amazes me when this happens. According to WeBe Autos (the broker selling the car) this 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V was never registered by the original seller. The car has never been registered and if you buy it you will be the first owner on record. In fact, they say this time capsule Lincoln Mark V has only 593 original miles. As the story goes it was purchased new. The owner passed away and it sat in a climate controlled garage until 2018. What a find!
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1953 Ford Customline, Rock Solid Motorsports, only 33,118 miles
2005 Porsche 997 Carrera, Beverly Hills Car Club, 32,421 miles
You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.
Project Vehicles for Restoration
1953 Allard K3 Roadster
Oh, boy! Grab the phone, you’ll be needing it. You will want to be the first one to call Gullwing Motor Cars in New York about this rare 1953 Allard K3 Roadster. This is the type of car Hollywood celebrities would drive and race back in the day. They say it is not currently running because it has come from a big European collection and has been in storage for a while. However they note that it is complete and intact. It would not take much to make it a survivor class driver. It is a worthy choice for even the most elite collector.

Price Reduced
1927 Ford Roadster
This is big! A 1927 Ford Roadster was listed a long time ago on this site. It is part show car and part pro mod, a truly unusual build and you won’t see another like it on the street. The pearlecsence and candy paint is wild. So the Florida collector who owns it originally was asking $89,000 for this one-of-a-kind ride. But just today he dropped the price to $49,000. Now that’s what this feature is all about. Hurry!

Deals of the Day
Cougar Pro Street
There is a real sharp looking muscle car in our Pro Street Section online this week. Beverly Hills Car Club came in with a slew of new listings that will knock your socks off. And at great prices, too. This 1968 Mercury Cougar Pro Street looks as good as it runs. The sharp Carribbean Blue paint with the racing decals is true vintage beauty. Find a powerful V8 engine under the hood with the functional hood scoop. Inside you will find the Grant steering wheel, racing seats, Simpson harnesses, B&M shifter and Autometer gauges, all of which give you that race car feel while the big Mickey Thompsons on the back confirm that this is a “bad” Cougar. With its side exhaust outlets, Mickey Thompson rear tires, and a rear tubbed roll-cage, this classic muscle car is a true head-turner. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $24,750.
1926 Ford Model T
If you could buy a vintage antique car for pocket change wouldn’t you jump to do it? Here is a 1926 Ford Model T Coupe (kind of like a doctor’s coupe you might say) for sale this week in the Ford Section. We should start off by pointing out that this is not a show car by any means. There is some patina starting to show on the front bumper, and the vinyl roof is showing some age. The photos do a good job of showing the condition. You will note that the crank start is still on the front of the Model T, although it has an electric start as well. Be sure to view the interesting walk-around video inspection done by Unique. It will give you a very good idea of the condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. They are only asking $9,900.
Rambler Cross Country
In our opinion, this is the “sleeper” deal this week. A 1956 Nash Rambler Cross Country Station Wagon was just listed by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. Family wagons are real popular in the collector car market, and this Cross Country body style is hard to find these days. This one looks to have a nice body with a good interior. You should have it inspected before you buy just to make sure. Equipped with a 3-speed manual transmission, it also has the Inline-six engine, single-barrel carburetor, single exhaust, two-spoke steering wheel with a column shifter, steel wheels with Rambler hubcaps, and a full-size spare tire. They have receipts for recent repairs totallying $4,900. They say it is mechanically sound. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $19,750.
1958 Studebaker Transtar
Studebaker was a little company that often outperformed the Big Three car manufacturers. One area they excelled in was in the production of light pickup trucks. This 1958 Studebaker Transtar Pickup is a great excample. It is being offered for sale this week by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. What people remember about the Studebaker pickups was how rugged they were. Power and reliability were their trait. This one is a California truck and comes with its V8 engine, 3-speed manual transmission, 3-spoke steering wheel, and 15-inch steel wheels. The ground hugging styling and huge bed show it was designed to be a true work truck. The look and stance of the Studebaker pickup make it look like no other truck on the market. They say this one is mechanically sound. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. They are asking $18,750.
Early Barracuda
Mopars are hot on the collector market right now. Does that popularity transfer over to the mid-60s Mopars? If so, here is one you want to watch. A 1965 Plymouth Barracuda Sport Hardtop was just posted for sale. It has the small block 273 ci V8 with an automatic transmission. Now this car is being offered for sale through Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. They specialize in wholesaling large numbers of classic cars. But private parties can buy out of their inventory also. This Barracuda has been converted to R134a and it comes with good paperwork, window sticker, build sheet, etc. It was rotisserie restored some time ago with the color changed to red. They say the paint shows its age in spots. Click here to watch an interesting walk-around video to inspect the condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $19,900.
Oldsmobile F-85 Cutlass
Before the Oldsmobile Cutlass evolved into one of the most popular cars in America, it started out as a mid-sized sporty little car that Oldsmobile hoped would compete with the Ford Falcon and Chevrolet Nova in the compact car category. This 1963 Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85 was already changing from the original 1961 version F-85. They only made 41,343 2-door Cutlass coupes that year. This is one of them. It is equipped with an automatic transmission, V8 engine, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, power steering, front-wheel disc brakes, chrome bumpers, 2-spoke steering wheel with horn, F85 side badging, 14-inch Cragar chrome wheels. Offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club, they say it is mechanically sound. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $13,750.
1993 Corvette Convertible
A private party seller from New Jersey listed his 1993 Corvette Convertible for sale this week at a discount to the average dealer price. The white Corvette with a black top and red interior is said to have only 67,000 miles on the odometer. “It’s in great shape overall,” he said. “The exterior and mechanical condition are strong, and while the interior could use some minor restoration, it’s nothing that detracts from the joy of the ride.” He estimates that the top is in “fair” condition, but still is functional. Want a fun car for the weekend? This one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. His asking price is only $10,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
