Iconic Muscle Car
The 1969 Camaro is considered to be the perfect American muscle car. At the top of the Camaro food chain is the 1969 Camaro Z/28 RS. That hidden headlight front valance on the Z/28 RS is iconic in design and effect. The cherry on top is when you see one in Hugger Orange, the most popular Camaro color for that year.
This week we spotted just such a Camaro as it was being listed by a collector from Canada. Here is the Hugger Orange 1969 Camaro Z/28 RS in all its rarified splendor. The private party seller tells us it was special ordered by the GM Canada Engineering Department. Thus it was an early numbered car with really rare options. See the ad copy for a run down on the numbers and how rare each option is.
Because it was an early production car it came with popular equipment; such as, Chambered Exhaust, 7,000 RPM Tachometer, Walnut Steering Wheel, 5 Original AD Rally Wheels, Short ( 68 Style) Spoiler, Stainless trim around RS front turn signal lenses, and kick panels with detachable grilles. The seller says it comes with its original “born with” motor, intake, carburetor, distributor, exhaust manifolds, and rear end. He notes that the transmission case was replaced in the early 1970’s.
He says the car was restored in 2009-2010. Although that is the original front valance, he says all the sheet metal was replaced on the body. And yet, the car still has just 79k miles.

The Ridler and More
Winning the Ridler Award at the Detroit Autorama is considered the greatest achievement in the custom car hobby here in the U.S. But this year’s Ridler Award winner has continued to dominate the custom car hobby by winning the Legends Cup award at the Chicago World of Wheels. In fact, just last week at the Triple Crown of Rodding show in Nashville it won the Street Cruiser of the Year title. The car is called the TwelveAir, a 1953 Corvette Coupe with an amazing V12 engine. Our photo journalist, Bob Boberg, of eClassicAutos.com, caught up with the builder, famous TV celebrity Dave Kindig of Kindigit Design. His TwelveAir build may be one of the most famous Ridler winners of all time. So we asked him to tell us about the build. Wow! He really got into it, from “why he created the Coupe design” for the ’53 Corvette which Chevrolet never built, to how the wheels and engine were designed. This is a “must see” video for any custom car enthusiast. Click here to read the story by Boberg and watch the video.
Trans Am Inspection
People always ask us how to buy a car online. It is still a mystery to some collectors who are used to the “old school” way of buying cars, i.e. traveling to inspect it themselves. In the modern day world time is more valuable than money. We always tell buyers they need to concentrate on two things.
1. Have the car inspected before you buy.
2. Use a Bill of Sale to document the sale.
To help buyers with the first item on our “Must Do” list, we have created the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service with a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada. You can read our inspection sample reports on the COL Inspection Referral Service page on our website. For example, you will see this report that was done on a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. An Indiana man had been wanting a ’70 Trans Am all his life. When he spotted one for sale in Iowa he ordered an inspection report through our service. He wanted us to help him verify if it could be original to the factory build, and he was worried about the body, bondo, suspension issues, etc. You can read the report here. For the most part this car was a strong runner and in better shape than most of the cars we are asked to look at. Our report calmed his concerns and verified that this car was worth his time to further research.

1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda
The importance of the Hemi Cuda in the muscle car world cannot be overstated. These cars go for astronomical prices. But here is a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda for sale out of a private collection in New York that is special in every way. The seller says it has a matching numbers engine with a build sheet (broadcast sheet). It is an original TX9 Black car with a black interior and black hockey stripe. What is amazing about this car is that they say it still has only 17,000 miles from new. And he says it remains with original parts detailed properly. The woodgrain dash, steering wheel and console are shown in the photos. Notice it has the shaker hood. What a great look. How many black/black Hemi Cudas have you seen?
1958 Plymouth Fury
A 1958 Plymouth Fury Convertible was listed for sale this week by North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois. In 1958 the Fury was an upscale Belvedere model designated by the L Code Fury package. This one is especially rare because of the stunning triple black colors and the attractive side trim. It comes with the 440 Commando engine and dual 4-barrel carburetors. And it has the iconic Chrysler push-button automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and power convertible top. With a Sure Grip rear end and 3.54 gears, this was a pretty advanced muscle car for its era. North Shore did a walk-around video so you can get a better view of everything and hear it run. They tell us it comes with original paperwork and history. Best of all … they say it runs as good as it looks.
Mercedes 300SL Roadster
To find a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster itself would be a rare event in today’s collector car world. But to find one with factory Rudge knock-off wheels is amazing! And that’s what we have here. Gullwing Motor Cars out of Astoria, New York has just listed this rare 1957 Mercedes 300SL Roadster. They say it is one of only 27 such cars produced that came from the factory with the Rudge wheels, specially designed for racing the Gullwings. They say it retains all of its original ‘numbers matching’ components and all five of its original, date-coded 300SL Roadster-specific Rudge wheels along with its original Hepco luggage suitcases. Gullwing believes that the “factory Rudge” tag is the rarest and most coveted option for a W198 Roadster. 1957 was the last year Mercedes was able to use these racing wheels on street cars because German laws banned them in 1958. This roadster, finished in Silbergrau metallic paint and Rot leather interior, was delivered to North America for sale through Vancouver. This is an historic car, a good fit for the finest collections.
Auctions
One of the oldest and most respected car shows in the country is the Fall Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet in historic old Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During this great show the Carlisle Events people put on the Fall Carlisle Auction at the Carlisle Expo Center across the street from the Fairgrounds. This premier event always draws interesting classic cars, muscle cars and collector trucks from all over the Eastern seaboard. This is where you can always find some “blue collar” collector cars at fair market prices. Here are some that the Carlisle Events team had recently listed here on Cars-On-Line.com.

1958 Chevrolet Impala
Lot # 532.1 at the Fall Carlisle Auction will be a white 1958 Chevrolet Impala 2-Door Hardtop. A bit of a mild custom 1950’s style build, it has tasteful custom mods that enhance its 1950’s era styling. You would see a car like this at the local drive-in. With power steering and power disc brakes, the iconic Impala has fender skirts and a Continental kit to complete the look. The drivetrain is a Chevy 350 with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. Check out all the photos of the tri-color interior at the link. This is the right classic car to add to your collection.
1940 Cadillac Limousine
The Fall Carlisle Auction is all about the classics, so here is a 1940 Cadillac Fleetwood 7-Passenger Limousine as a good example of the vintage cars you can expect here. Sold on a Maryland title, this classic limousine looks great and offers low miles ride. They say the 6 volt system starts every time. In addition, all the gauges work. It was serviced by Cadillac technicians. With a little patina, its age shows character. They say the engine runs whisper quiet with no trace of smoke. They also disclaim that this particular Cadillac is free of front end issues. Call Carlisle to have it inspected before you bid.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1967 Ferrari 330 GTC
Gullwing Motor Cars in New York is offering a rare and valuable 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC which is a virtual “barn find.” It was found in long-term storage. Although the motor runs, it is not roadworthy in its current condition. It needs a light restoration to bring it back to life. This one would be worth the effort since it is one of only 598 ever built. It is even more desirable since it was built to be sold in America with the odometer in miles, power windows and air conditioning. They say it has its numbers matching V12 engine. What’s more, it has been documented by Ferrari expert Marcel Massini.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:
1967 Ferrari 330 GTS, Gullwing Motor Cars, NY

Deals of the Day
1977 Firebird Formula
Here is the hottest deal on our website today by far. An Illinois private party collector listed his 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula for sale this week. He says this is a real Z Code car. You know, … as good as a Trans Am only at a lower price point. It has the T.A. 6.6 liter engine and drive train. It even has extremely low miles for its age. The seller says it only reads 32k original miles. And he says there is no rust. According to the ad copy, it “starts, runs, shifts and stops.” Being all original, he says he will not find any dash crack or rust. In other words it is a turnkey muscle car. “Drive it anywhere.” But the best part is the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. His price is only $20,000.
1953 Mercury Custom
A private party seller from Florida listed this 1953 Mercury Monterey Custom for sale at a very affordable price. You can see it has had tons of custom modifications, built years ago. It has won top awards at the World of Wheels in both New Jersey and New York. It was brought to Florida over 40 years ago by a custom hot rodder who has since passed. They say it runs, drives and stops well. It has good glass, interior, and a 302 ci V8 with a C4 automatic transmission. Note the photo showing the ’56 Lincoln tail lights molded in. Frenched head lights, louvered hood, lowered stance and cruiser skirts. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday if it lasts that long. The asking price is only $15,000
Shay Model A Roadster
These Shay Model A Roadster replicas are so popular they always sell quickly. So you will have to hurry to get a shot at this one. It is being offered for sale by P.J.’s Auto World in Clearwater, Florida at a very affordable price. The Shay replicas were so authentic in detail that they were sold through Ford dealerships back in the 1980’s. The one you see hear is titled as a 1980 Ford Model A. It has the 2.3 liter inline 4-cylinder engine, a 4-speed manual transmission and Pinto style suspension with rack and pinion steering. Notice the fender mounted spare wheels, chrome mirrors, folding convertible top and rear rumble seat with storage trunk out back. They list it as having only 10,708 miles. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The price is $19,900.
1957 Ford Thunderbird
You know what we always say, “If you can find a classic first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000, you should buy it.” Well here is a 1957 Ford Thunderbird which was just posted for sale by Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They say the Raven Black paint is driver quality at best with imperfections worth noting. They say it still drives well though with a 312 ci V8 and 3-speed automatic transmission. They say it handles well, tracks well and the power disc brakes are on all four corners. It is best described as one of those car you could drive as you restore it. The best part is the price, though. It is priced to sell. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $25,000.
1993 Camaro Z28 Pro Street
If you look at our traffic logs you’ll know that Pro Street cars are very popular with collector car buyers today. That’s why we were surprised when this 1993 Camaro Z28 Pro Street was listed at a very nice price. The private party seller from Michigan tells us it is a “street happy pro street” that puts out 1,000 hp at the crank. He says it has done 9.14 in the quarter-mile. But he says it is very street friendly with a 3800 stall converter and 9.2 comp ratio. Fuel injected and procharged, the 383 stroker motor runs cool on pump gas. You will note that the description says it has all forged internals, hyd roller, crank trigger, Coan built T-400 and Coan converter with a trans brake. And there is so much more. Read the description. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $29,000.
1942 Willys Jeep
This is interesting. A World War II era 1942 Willys Ford GPW (Jeep) was listed for sale by a private party seller out of Tennessee. He says the Jeep works great. The collector/owner feels it is time to let his treasure go. This classic World War II Jeep is said to be complete and original. The seller says it was recently rebuilt. Call him to see what was done. He does not include the details. As you can imagine, it comes with a lot of accessories. You can tell it gets driven. This is one you might want to have inspected before you buy. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week on the front page of Cars-On-Line.com. That’s because the seller is only asking $17,000.
1970 Volkswagen Beetle
One of the best deals on our website this week is this 1970 Volkswagen Beetle 2-Door Sedan. The Florida seller has is priced right. He says it comes with a 4-speed standard transmission, and that it has good brakes, a new carb, new seat cushions and seat covers, and a good strong engine. He says it also has good tires, a new battery and “decent paint.” Check the photos on the ad page at the link. This VW Beetle does take a good picture. You should always have a car inspected before you buy. From the photos, the interior looks clean and the engine compartment in the back looks good. With all that, it is the price that gets us most interested. He has it priced right. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $12,000.
