AMC’s Rebel Yell
When American Motors came out with the Rebel Machine in 1970 it was their statement that they were in the Muscle Car Wars with the Big Three auto makers. The base price on this amazing muscle car was only $3,450. But sales were so poor that it was only offered for one year. That makes it very desirable for collectors today.
A rare 1970 AMC Rebel Machine was just listed for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. It’s patriotic color scheme gives it the Wow! Factor, and the 390 ci V8, which pumps out 340 horsepower, gives it the power it needs to be a significant American muscle car. They say the condition class on this car could be rated as a No. 3, but they also point out that it could easily be taken to the next level as a show car. After all, only 2,326 of these Rebel Machines were recorded as being produced by AMC in 1970. They are as rare as frog’s hair.
Talk about a classic look. The Rebel Machine features a dual scooped hood and open grille which makes this dual headlight car look menacing especially with its high stance on American Racing Torque Thrust wheels wrapped with raised white letter BFG radial T/A’s. There are some items not working on the car. (Read the ad for a detailed report.) But they note that on a test drive it handled well and has solid braking. Check out the interior photos. They tell us the seats are comfy.
There is probably a little work that needs to be done on this one, but what a rare find! AMC came up with a Red, White and Blue masterpiece when they made this one. It will turn heads and make a statement wherever it goes.

Classic Car News This Week
Prices Just Got Better
All through the summer and into the fall season our friends in the classic car dealer community have been complaining about not finding enough inventory. That has kept prices abnormally high on collectible cars and trucks. But just this week we noticed that prices have been dropping. In the New Listings this week you’ll find dozens of very desirable collector and specialty cars at affordable discounts. Here is one, a 1995 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, that really looks good in the photos. The private party seller from Wisconsin is letting it go for $7,500. See many more deeply discounted cars and trucks in the DEAL of the DAY feature below.
Trans Am Inspection
People always ask us how to buy a car online. It is still a mystery to some collectors who are used to the “old school” way of buying cars, i.e. traveling to inspect it themselves. In the modern day world time is more valuable than money. We always tell buyers they need to concentrate on two things.
1. Have the car inspected before you buy. 2. Use a Bill of Sale to document the transaction.
To help buyers with the first item on our “Must Do” list, we have created the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service with a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada. You can read our inspection sample reports on the COL Inspection Referral Service page on our website. For example, you will see a report that was done on a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. An Indiana man had been wanting a ’70 Trans Am all his life. When he spotted one for sale in Cedar Rapids, Iowa he ordered an inspection report through our service. He wanted us to help him verify if it could be original to the factory build, and he was worried about the body, bondo, suspension issues, etc. You can read the report here. For the most part this car was a strong runner and in better shape than most of the cars we are asked to look at. Our report calmed his concerns and verified that this car was worth his time to research further.
This Weeks Featured Stories
1937 Packard Twelve
Packard survived the Great Depression era based on its reputation for building high quality cars. Packard engineering was highly respected and in the mid-1930’s they were at the top of their game. In fact, when this 1937 Packard Twelve Model 1507-1039 Coupe Roadster left the factory it had an independent front suspension, the first year for Packard. And the brakes were 4-wheel hydraulic, replacing the old mechanical style braking system prevalent at the time. This 1039 Coupe Roadster is a rare one. Out of the 1,300 Packard Twelves produced in 1937, only 69 of them were 1039 Coupe Roadsters. With both beauty and rarity, this Packard Roadster is recognized by the Classic Car Club of America as a Full Classic qualifying it to participate in CCCA events and CARavans. That makes owning it an automatic invite to CCCA events.
1969 Ford Talladega
The car that started the “aero wars” between Chrysler and Ford was Ford’s Torino Talladega. Ford created the Talladega with special aerodynamics and the big block motor to compete in NASCAR in 1969. In fact, it was the Talladega that lured the legendary Richard Petty away from Plymouth into the Ford camp for that NASCAR season. This week a 1969 Ford Talladega appeared in our New Listings having been listed for sale by Unique Specialty & Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota. Click here to review their detailed walk-around video. You will see the Wimbeldon White Talladega has a 428 Cobra Jet V8 and a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. It has power steering and power brakes. The tach works. Only 750 Talladegas were produced. What a find! They say it comes with a 3-ring binder of info, including the Marti Report, and a copy of the invoice.
American Show Truck
Ellingson Motorcars is having a big week it seems. They also listed this amazing 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible in Anniversary Gold metallic paint. What a beauty! It has the 348 ci V8 Chevy big block motor with a Tripower “hot rod” type intake. The transmission is the reliable 2-speed Powerglide automatic. GM celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1957 and offered the Anniversary Gold metallic paint in 1958. The Gullwing look of the rear valance solidified the Impala’s iconic appearance. Second only to the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air in desirability, the ’58 Impala stands as one of the great designs of all time. The body style was used for one year only and introduced the Impala to the world. Today it is a car that continues to escalate in value and stands as a significant collector car to own.
Auctions

The GAA Classic Fall Auction will be held November 2-4, 2023 at their permanent auction facility in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dedicated to their following of classic car, muscle car and unique specialty vehicle buyers, the GAA Classic is well respected in the collector car community. You will be impressed with their lineup for the Fall auction. Here are a few of the top cars which we will be watching that first weekend in November.
1970 Boss 302 Mustang
With a strong selection of classic muscle cars, this year’s GAA Classic Fall Auction will premier some high end specimens from some of the top collections on the Eastern seaboard. Great muscle cars such as this 1970 Boss 302 Mustang will be offered for sale at the GAA’s facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, November 2-4, 2023. Presented in Calypso Coral with Vermillion interior, it has benefitted from a frame-off restoration. The legendary Pony car comes with its date code correct 302/290hp V8 engine and a 4-speed transmission. You can see from the photos it has had a recent engine bay detailing.
1953 Packard Caribbean
The collector “in-crowd” has long come to the GAA Classic Fall Auction to find premium 1950’s classics. This year the selection is full of true original classic cars. A 1953 Packard Caribbean Convertible is a great example. It will be auctioned off on Friday, November 3 as Lot # 0161. As you can see in the photos it comes with a Continental kit and chrome wire wheels with Packard center caps. It is one of only 750 Caribbeans produced that year. All were convertibles.

2011 Mercedes SLS
Many of the Southern car dealers who frequent the GAA Classic Fall Auction will bring their late model specialty cars to sell while they are there. Here is a 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG with the canteleavered doors. It has only 10k miles driven. Note the beautiful alloy wheels in the photos. The highly sought after late model sports car is typical of the kind of specialty cars you will find at the GAA Classic. This one will be sold on Saturday, November 4 as Lot # 0074.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1949 Ford Tudor
A private party advertiser from Shelby Township, Michigan tells us that this 1949 Ford Tudor Custom Sedan still has only 14,877 original miles. That’s probably why it looks so sharp in the photos. He says it comes with a Flathead 6 engine and manual 3-speed transmission. He has a copy of the original invoice from the dealership where it was first purchased. He says “never saw a bad day of weather in its life.”
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
2000 Corvette, Carolina Muscle Cars, NC, 19k actual miles
You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.

It comes with a manual transmission, straight six engine, open windscreen, black convertible top, and a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament. Deals of the Day
1967 Pontiac Firebird
First generation Pontiac Firebirds are going up in value. So you are not going to find a better deal on one than this 1967 Pontiac Firebird being offered by a private party seller from Wisconsin. They say it runs as well as it looks. In the same ownership since 1981, it says it was always garaged and well kept. It comes with a 326 ci V8 and an automatic transmission. It has undergone a frame up restoration. Photos and receipts are available to view. They say it was completely stripped and repainted with this metallic luster and custom graphics. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $27,500.
1955 Ford Thunderbird
You know what we always say when it comes to buying a classic first generation T-Bird. “If you can find one in high number 3 condition for under $30,000 … buy it.” Only an indspection can tell for sure, but this 1955 Ford Thunderbird looks pretty good in the photos. It is being offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They say it comes with 2 tops finished in it’s factory color Snowshoe White with a 2-tone Black & White vinyl interior. It comes equipped with a manual transmission, V8 engine, hardtop with “Ford” emblem, white-line National GT tires with Ford hubcaps, “V8” badging on fender, chrome covered keylock holes, and a power-adjustable bench seat. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $27,500.
1963 Pontiac Catalina
This very desirable 1963 Pontiac Catalina 2-Door Hardtop presents as a project car. You’ll notice a distinct color match problem where they may have replaced the front end. A popular full sized car in its time, the Catalina has a 389 engine, which they say is numbers matching, with a 3-speed automatic transmission. It is being offered for sale at Streetside Classics in Atlanta. They say it is ready to cruise. It has been with the same owner since 1988. It comes with power steering and power brakes. You should have it inspected before you buy, but hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $18,995. At that price we don’t expect it to last a week.
1956 Chevrolet 210
The patina’d look is still trendy ink the collector car market. Some people just like the look of surface rust. This seller is capitalizing on the trend. He says his 1956 Chevrolet 210 4-Door Sedan has original paint and “good patina.” The 230 ci six cylinder engine came from a ’67 Camaro. The car is said to have a new clutchs, new disc brakes, gas tank and wiring. The floor boards were replaced. Finish it off your way. You might be sursprised at the actual condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The private party seller is asking $7,500.

1983 Pontiac Trans Am
The third generation of the Pontiac Trans Am came out in 1982 with a more modern American sports car design. Pontiac stood out as one of the few remaining performance cars. This 1983 Pontac Trans Am is a great example of how beautiful that body style was. It is being offered for sale this week through North Shore Classics out of Mundelein, Illinois (nothern Chicago suburb.) According to the ad specs, it has only 36k miles on the odometer. Click here to view a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $26,900.
1984 Dodge Prospector
Take a really close look at this 1984 Dodge Prospector 1-Ton Pickup Truck being offered for sale by a private party seller from Wisconsin. He says the truck came from the state of Washington and never had any rust. It was recently tuned by a dealership and comes with new tires, new brakes, and a clean interior. The seller says it is a really good truck which “is modern enough to be reliable … but old enough to be easily maintained.” It comes with an extra 360 ci V8 motor, with transmission and transfer case and all the accessories for this truck. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. Their asking price is $18,000. That’s a lotta’ truck for the money.
1995 Ford F-150 Pickup
Here is another truck that has “collectible” written all over it. This is a 1995 Ford F-150 4X2 Pickup just listed for sale at Larry McGray’s Antique Automotive in Lena, Wisconsin. It has the 5.0L V8 with automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows and dual gas tanks. Because it was sourced from Arizona the truck is blowing ice cold air, and remains rust free. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $12,500.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
1979 Corvette | $14,900 | Lakeland, FL |
1992 Corvette | $17,900 | Mankato, MN |
1974 Oldsmobile Cutlass S | $19,995 | Columbus, OH |
