Most Popular Chevy
Is there any car more popular in the American collector car market than a ’57 Chevy Convertible? This should not offend anyone but the car most collectors would chose over a ’57 Chevy is the venerable and harder-to-find 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible. And just this week, we noticed that a Rio Red 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible has been added to the auction inventory for the upcoming Raleigh Classic Auction in Youngsville, North Carolina next week.
This ’58 Chevy Impala just might be the top seller at the Raleigh Classic Auction next weekend, June 2-3, 2023. It will cross the auction floor in Youngsville on Saturday. Our readers know that the Raleigh Summer Auction is one of those “hidden gems” of the collector car hobby. It is where some of the top collections in the U.S. go to “trim the herd.” The auction will be held in Youngsville, just outside of Raleigh proper, at the Capitol Auto Auction facility.
The Impala has undergone a complete frame-off restoration. Back in 1958 Chevrolet wanted to make a factory hot rod for the younger generation of new car buyers. They knew there was a hunger for performance, so they put a big block truck engine, the 348 ci V8, into the Impala and made it go fast. This one has the Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. Extra optional equipment includes a power convertible top, boot cover, matching tri-tone interior, power steering, dual rear mounted antennas, dual exhaust, power brakes, full size wheel covers and a Continental kit.
What do you think it will sell for? We will find out next weekend.

Classic Car News This Week
Rapid Transit Cuda
The biggest “surprise” of the recent Mecum Auction at Indy happened when this 1970 Rapid Transit Plymouth Cuda crossed the auction floor. The car sold at the big Indianapolis auction last weekend for $2,200,000. The photo you see here came from eClassicAutos.com. They told us the Rapid Transit 440 Cuda went for over three times the estimated value that Mecum put on the car prior to the sale. It was the highest priced sale at Indy this year. The Rapid Transit 1970 Plymouth Cuda is famous to Mopar collectors because it was used to promote the new car lineup in 1970 when the E-Body Cudas first came out. It is one of four highly customized Cudas in the Rapid Transit System caravan that traveled from town to town to preview the Plymouth Cuda to the new car buying public. This car was stored for 50 years. It still has its original paint and is said to have only 967 original miles on the odometer. We found it on eClassicAutos.com’s Twitter page.

Inspection Report
A Cars-On-Line.com client ordered an inspection on a 1958 Chevrolet Apache Pickup. The two-tone Butterscotch and Cream Chevy pickup was a nice quality driver, according to the tech who inspected the truck. He said it had had an older restoration, probably over ten years old. The evidence was some cracked bondo in various body panels. There was some minor rust visible. But the inspector did not find any structural rust problems. A floor panel was cut out and replaced, but the inspector said it was a very professional job. He also found some orange peel in the butterscotch upper doors. The truck drove and handled well, though. Overall it rated a Class Three condition. Since the buyer was looking for a good driver, this one fit the bill. Click here to read the report.
The first item on a buyer’s “Must Do” list should be to contact the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service with a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada. You can read our inspection sample reports on the COL Inspection Referral Service page on our website.

1934 Packard Eight
An elegant, Light Ascot Maroon 1934 Packard Eight Convertible Sedan was just posted for sale by Ellingson Motorcars in Rogers, Minnesota. They say the odometer reads only 10k miles. You can bet this one was pampered and cherished by its owners. It comes with the inline 8 cylinder motor with a Stromberg 2-barrel carburetor rated at 145 horsepower. The Classic Car Club of America considers the 1934 Packard Eight as a “True Classic” so this one is eligible to participate in CCCA events. Among Packard collectors the 1934’s are highly desirable. Design changes in 1934 included longer fenders, redesigned slotted bumpers, and a relocated gas filler cap located behind left rear taillight assembly. Additionally, the tilt windshield from 1933 was replaced with a fixed windshield with an angled vent wing. It has vacuum assisted mechanical brakes at all four corners, a rarity back then. The side-mounted spare tires with covers are topped with side mirrors. Very trendy stuff for that time.

Deals of the Day
1980 Camaro Z28
Here is another car that has “future classic” written all over it. If you are collecting late 1970’s and early 1980’s Z28 Camaros we think you are unto something. This 1980 Camaro Z28 comes in striking red with orange trim. What a great look! It is being offered for sale at Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the askiing price is $21,900. How much do you think it will be worth in ten years?
1959 Nash Metropolitan
This 1959 Nash Metropolitan Convertible was used in parades and on ice cream runs by its owner of 33 years. It’s another one of the offerings from Cody’s Classic Cars. And they will tell you that it is not a show car, no way. But they say it runs and drives well. You can see in the photos where it has some rust issues underneath. Yes, it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $9,900.
1970 Chevy Monte Carlo
When the Chevy Monte Carlo came out in 1970 it was immediately a hit as a personal luxury car with a muscle car vibe. Young executives felt right at home in them. This Pale Yellow 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo comes with a big block V8 engine. It is being offered for sale at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. Take a look at the photos and the video at the link. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their price: $29,500. That’s pretty cheap for a big block car!
1955 Plymouth Belvedere
The 1955 Plymouth Belvedere 4-Door Sedan is a collector car that you come across every once in a while. If you got your thinking cap on right you might want to look into it a little more. It is being offered for sale by Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. Because it’s a 4-door it doesn’t get the same respect that a 2-door car would. But look a little closer. They say it runs and drives well. With a good solid body and nice slick paint, you will be impressed with the nice redone interior and new carpet. Be sure to have it inspected. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. I think you will agree that this is a lotta’ car for the money. They are asking $14,950.
1973 Ford F100 Pickup
From the photos this sixth-generation 1973 Ford F100 Pickup looks pretty sharp for the price. It is finished in Bright Red and White combined with a tan interior. Offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, they tell us it is equipped with an automatic transmission, V8 engine, Holley 2-barrel carburetor, front-wheel disc brakes, and three-spoke steering wheel. They say it is a well-built Ford F-Series Pickup truck that is mechanically sound. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. The asking price is $12,750.
1990 Nissan 300ZX
Nissan’s ZX series sports cars come from a long standing sports car tradition spanning back to classic Datsun Fair Ladies and early Z’s. So it was a surprise to find a late model 1990 Nissan 300ZX in such an affordable price range when it was listed this week. Hurry! That black on black turbo coupe is being offered for sale at Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan. It comes with the T-top option. They say it needs nothing. It was originally listed for over $25,000. But next week it will be our DEAL of the DAY because their current asking price is $15,700.
2006 Mustang
Ford’s Mustang and its F-150 are the only thing that keeps Ford Motor Company viable. The Mustang is so popular that you would not expect to see one among the bargain priced cars this week. But here one is. Unique Specialty & Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota is using this 2006 Mustang as a price leader this week. I think it’s working. It got our attention. Click here to view a walk-around video in which Unique explains all the details on this extremely clean Mustang. Then grab the phone because it will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $9,900. No, that’s not a misprint.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
