You’re looking at an exceptional 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396, top-flight restoration of a numbers-matching, correct colors, ’69 Chevelle SS396 4-speed.

It is NOT a “tribute,” it is NOT a “clone,” it is the real deal classic muscle car in every way. Receiving a complete, nut-and-bolt frame-off restoration several years ago, it has been driven a mere 42 miles since completion. Nearly 200 pictures available, plus I will be posting several videos of the car soon. I do have pics of the various stampings for serious clients. This is a correct, investment grade example of arguably the quintessential great American muscle car. If you’re tired of shopping deceptively-worded, grossly overpriced $60k+ pretenders where nothing is really right, original, or documented, then this car is for you.

This factory code 71B Lemans Blue/Black top car came in code 755 black vinyl interior, and came equipped with the following:

* Black vinyl top

The car has had everything reconditioned, repaired, restored, or replaced. The paint and body are stunning, and the vinyl top is in absolutely perfect condition. All of the chrome, stainless, glass, and emblems are new or “as new.” The headlights are all original “T-3” units. The interior is probably better than new, as you can bounce dimes off the bench seats, or the headliner for that matter. Things are tight and tidy inside this car. The only derivation is a retro digital stereo has been installed in place of the factory AM radio, with hidden speakers under the seats.

Under the hood, the matching numbers 396 looks and sounds like brand new. “Clean and correct” are the operative words here. Underneath the car is as clean as the top, with all of the correct inspection stickers and markings in place. It is done in correct 80/20 GM chassis black, and is clean and rust-free everywhere.

This SS396 drives out beautifully. It starts easily and settles into its factory idle quickly, no matter how long it’s been sitting. No tricks needed to get it to start, run, or run right–it just does! The power steering is perfectly over-boosted, making this car easy for anyone to maneuver. The sounds it makes are pure American muscle car, and it shifts like butter in all gears. How fun would it be to have your honey sitting right next to you with her straddling the shifter as you go through the gears….;-)

This show quality Chevelle SS396 came out of a prominent Iowa classic car collector’s estate. Of the 30 cars he had, this was the one he and his wife held onto until the very end. No car is ever perfect, that’s for sure, but this one comes closer than most.

Think you could have one of these restored today for less? Unless you’re doing all the work yourself, it wouldn’t even be close. Plus, life is short–Yes, you COULD: 1) Source a numbers-matching project SS396 car for $25-$35k, 2) Spend time finding and getting comfortable with a quality, detail-oriented restorer, 3) Wait for the next 1-2 years to even get into his shop, 4) Wait another year or two as the car is restored, 5) Write checks semi-regularly that will add up to FAR more than the cost of this car, then 6) Bring the car home and sort it out before being able to drive/show it with any confidence, OR……you can buy this car, and enjoy making memories with it immediately, and often.
