Mopar’s AAR ‘Cuda
The 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda was a short‑run variant of Plymouth’s Barracuda created to homologate the E-body in the SCCA’s 5.0‑liter Trans‑Am Racing series with Dan Gurney’s All American Racers (hence “AAR”). Built only in March–April 1970, it combined a unique 340 cu in “Six Barrel” (triple Holley two‑barrels) small‑block rated at 290 hp, a fiberglass fresh‑air hood, side‑exit exhaust ahead of the rear wheels, stiffened suspension, quick‑ratio steering, and staggered tire sizes (E60‑15 front, G60‑15 rear) on Rallye wheels. Distinctive matte‑black graphics, a ducktail spoiler, and no chrome brightwork telegraphed its race pedigree, while the street cars echoed the T/A car’s look even though the actual Trans‑Am racers used destroked 305s and mechanical fuel injection. With roughly 2,700 produced and only for a single model year, the AAR ’Cuda is one of the most collectible E‑body Mopars. They are hard to find in today’s collector car market.
This week an In-Violet 1970 Plymouth AAR ‘Cuda was listed for sale by Ideal Classic Cars in Venice, Florida. It is a correct A833 4-speed car with the correct 340 ci and Six Pack. The Sure-Grip out back and fiberglass Fresh Air hood with hood pins up front delineate it from the rest of the Barracudas from 1970. The side exit exhaust and front and rear spoilers let everyone know this car was race ready right from the factory. The black strobe stripe is the final defining element that makes it AAR.

1969 Plymouth ‘Cuda
This may be the “sleeper” Mopar listing of the week. When Chrysler decided to drop a big block 440 engine into an A-body Barracuda in 1969, they created a brute force factory street machine that would go down in history. This 1969 Plymouth ‘Cuda is based on the Formula S fastback, and they designated it as an M Code. It’s dominant feature was the 440 with a single four-barrel rated at 375 horsepower engaging a heavy duty 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission spinning an 8 ¾ rear end with Sure Grip. It had upgraded cooling and suspension. This Mopar muscle car has gone through a concours rotissorie restoration with restored original parts or NOS parts. It is one of only 303 produced by Chrysler. They estimated that there are only about 70 left in existence. There are only 100 test and tune miles on this one since the restoration.
Intermeccanica Italia Spyder
Frank Reisner’s Construzione Automobili Intermeccanica endeavered to produce a boutique GT touring car called the Intermeccanica Italia. They were produced from 1967 till 1973. Here is a first-year edition 1967 Intermeccanica Italia Spyder being offered for sale this week at The Throttlestop in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. They figure only 28 examples were produced that first year. The racing red finish resembles Ferrari’s Rosso Corsa, with a black convertible top. It was a real experiment in using an all-steel body over a tubular steel chassis. It has a 4-speed and Jaeger instruments, Hurst shift knob, and an original leather steering wheel with beautiful patina. The Throttlestop tells us it only has 22,319 original miles, and presents as a well-preserved early production example. Upgrades include Wilwood brakes.

1969 Chevelle SS 396
Southern Motors has another great muscle car for sale this week. They did a walk-around video inspection on it for our readers to view. Click the video window above to watch as Dave shows us this gorgeous 1969 Chevelle SS 396 in factory Code 10 Tuxedo black. The car came out of North Carolina with a beatiful straight body. Watch as he shows you how straight this car is along the side panels. He says it drives as good as it looks. Everything works. No knitpicking here. It even has a power rear antenna. This is not a matching numbers 396, but he says the engine is “era correct.” It has front disc brakes, Flowmaster exhaust and real nice wheels. Wow! This car is nice. It has front and rear sway bars, so you can imagine how it handles. Shall we take it for a ride?

1958 Triumph TR3 Roadster

It looks like a good subject to bring back to life. Although it looks pretty solid, you should check the sheet metal for filler. The interior takes a good picture, pretty clean looking. Inspect the condition of the dash and the undercarriage. These TR3’s are very desirable two-seater sports cars. It has a 1,991cc inline-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and dual SU carburetors fitted with mesh-style pancake air cleaners. Muscle Car Clones
1968 SS Hemi Dart
Mopar seems to be our overriding theme this week. It is no surprise that a very authentic recreation of a 1968 Dodge Dart Super Stock Hemi car was listed for sale. They say it was built by Greg Fernald, reknown as the founder of SS/AFX in Scottsdale, Arizona. He used a 426 Hemi stroked out to 472 ci and built with the “best of everything,” including heads, block, crank, rods, pistons, comp roller cam and a period correct cross-ram manifold with Holley 4235 and 4236 carburetors. It even has a race built manual reverse valve body 727 Torqueflite with Hurst Super Shifts. The suspension is period correct. A battery is mounted in the trunk. Even the interior is correct to the SS Hemi Darts, with A100 van seats, rollbar and 3-point shoulder harnass. Of course, the car is painted Plum Crazy Purple and has Vintage Air (because it is an Arizona car.) You said you wanted an authentic ride?
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

1967 Camaro SS 454 Tribute, Streetside Atlanta

Deals of the Day
1967 Buick Skylark Convt
Buick’s Gran Sport muscle cars were all based on their Skylark platform. Here is a 1967 Buick Skylark Convertible which was just listed at a very interesting price point. It was the beginning of an era for Buick muscle cars. It is being offered for sale by Classic Car Deals for their client in Washington State. They say it has been exceptionally preserved with the 300 ci Buick V8 engine and a 2-speed Super Turbine automatic transmission. They report that it runs and drives beautifully and has been kept original. They say it has always been garage kept. So they state: “No rust. No hidden bondo. No craks. No peeling paint. No surprises.” Although it is in “daily driver” type condition, they say it has one repaint done very well. You might want to have it inspected before you buy in order to confirm its condition. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $27,895.
1937 Ford Deluxe Fordor
If you have been looking for the right entry point into the collector car market, here is an important opportunity to consider. This 1937 Ford Deluxe Fordor Slantback Sedan was just listed for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in California. It has the popular Ford Flathead V8 with a floor shifted 3-speed manual transmission. The car looks great in the photos. However, it was forgotten in storage and is not currently running. It has just come out of long-term ownership. The Garnet Maroon finish looks good in the photos, and the photos complement the gray and maroon cloth interior. It has suicide doors in the rear and chrome accents all around. The teardrop headlight feature was very popular among Ford buyers back then. It has Waltham instruments and 16-inch artillery wheels. This historic Ford will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is only $15,750.
1952 Ford F1 Pickup
A collector from Wisconsin has just listed his 1952 Ford F1 Pickup for sale this week. It has been mildly customized with a 305 Chevy small block engine, air conditioning, heat, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering and a 700R4 overdrive transmission. The flatbed pickup is “stylin” with Centerline wheels. The seller says it is not a “perfect truck” but notes that it runs real well. It now has a stereo system, tachometer and GPS gauges. He has quite a bit invested in the truck with receipts for the work done. The cab looks pretty clean and you will note the updates. Have it inspected so you can see more photos and get an independent third-party opinion of the truck. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday next week. His asking price is $13,900.
1967 Triumph Spitfire
A British Racing Green 1967 Triumph Spitfire Roadster was listed for sale yesterday at a great price point. It was posted by Classic Car Deals for their client who resides in Utah state. The Spitfire is powered by a 1.3 liter inline 4 cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission. They say it runs and drives well, and is ready for weekend cruising. The Spitfire was produced from 1962 through 1980. They figure about half-a-million units were produced altogether. This one would be considered a Mark 3 with better performance and styling updates to meet U.S. regulations. Parts are available for these cars today, and they are considered easy to work on. The name was adopted from WWII Spitfire marine fighter planes. Triumph Motor Company was a part of British Leyland. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. The price is $12,995.

1972 Lincoln Continental
Classic Car Deals also listed this 1972 Lincoln Continental classic luxury car for sale for their client in Colorado. The 4-door sedan is finished in Dark Brown metallic paint with a luxurious beige cloth interior and burled walnut trim. See the photos at the ad page. It has the big 460 ci V8 engine and they say it still shows only 33,188 original miles. The miles could be verified by the beautifully maintained interior. They say the luxury cruiser still delivers a smooth ride and has an unmistakable present wherever it goes. You might have it inspected to see how the vacuum operated headlights work and the condition of all the power accessories on this regal cruiser. They state that the top end of the 460 has been refreshed with new pushrods and valve springs, and it has a rebuilt carburetor, timing chain, timing cover and gasket. It also has a new fuel pump and fuel tank. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is $15,495. That is a lotta’ car for the money, don’t you think?
1975 Chevy El Camino
If the idea of a half-car, half-truck motor vehicle is unusual enough to begin with, consider this 1975 Chevrolet El Camino which was taken to another level. Not satisfied with the performance part of the El Camino a custom builder decided to build a healthy 350 ci V8 engine and backed it with the appropriate automatic transmission and a desirable 3.55 Posi rear end. The Air Ride suspension adds a whole new dimension to this street cruiser, which remains low till you go. The 20-inch Foose wheels give it a pro touring look while the black cowl hood and clean body lines give it a muscular stance. Click here to watch a walk-around video so you can take in all the custom stylings on this car / truck. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is only $14,900. Again, that is a lotta’ car for the money, right?
1978 Dodge Magnum XE
For decades Detroit had been trying to find the right blend of performance and luxury in their big American cruisers. In 1978 we really thought Chrysler had perfected the idea when they came out with the 1978 Dodge Magnum XE. Little did we know that the world would change and big cars would be dinasaurs soon after. The Magnum XE would be Dodge’s last rear-wheel-drive personal luxury coupe. The Magnum replaced the Charger in NASCAR competition for Dodge. The white 1978 Dodge Magnum XE you see here is being offered for sale by Classical Gas Motors, an internet broker selling this luxury muscle car for their client. With 57,592 miles on the odometer, it comes pretty loaded having power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power windows, a power seat, cruise control and more. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is only $13,500.
