Big ’71 Big Block
Although Chevrolet advertised that an LS6 454/450 engine would be available to Chevelle buyers for 1971, no known Chevelle was ever produced with the LS6 monster big block that year. (The LS6 454 was available to order for a Corvette, but the horsepower was reduced to 365.) So, the most powerful 454 available to order on a Chevelle in 1971 was the LS5 with horsepower increased to 365 from 360 hp the year before.
This week, a 1971 Chevelle SS LS5 454 was listed for sale by HaggleMe, an internet broker representing their private party client. They tell us this very rare Chevelle big block has its numbers matching 454 and a numbers matching Turbo 400 automatic transmission to match. They say it also has the original rear end. It is documented by four original build sheets found on the car. And it comes with factory air conditioning.
With environemental issues coming to the fore, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in 1970. Auto makers were quick to understand that they had to reduce emissions. The end of the muscle car era was not far off. Even though the Chevelle big blocks were among the hottest cars on the market, detuning Chevrolet muscle cars was already underway. This 1971 Chevelle SS LS5 454 is one of the last of a breed of monster big block muscle cars to exist. Like the dinasaurs, they quietly disappeared.
Its no secret the Chevelle Super Sports are popular. But recently we have noticed that they are getting bought up as soon as they are listed. Click here to go to our Chevelle Section online where you can view 292 Chevelle ads. You might find an SS there that has not yet been snapped up. Good hunting.

Classic Car News This Week

Happy Fourth!
Happy 4th of July to you all! There is no country on earth that has more freedom than we do here in the United States of America. When I talk to my grandchildren I realize they have a different take on what freedom means. Each generation of Americans seems to feel a little more “entitled” than the generation before them. Freedom from burdensome taxation is what the revolutionaries fought for. We won the right to representation in our government. With those rights come responsibilities. We take care of our own because Americans look out for each other. Every good mechanic knows that things break. We trust in God that He will always grant us the courage to roll up our sleeves and make things right again. In a world that is constantly changing … that doesn’t change. We have a saying, “In God We Trust.” Is it any wonder why the United States is the leader of the world? That’s what our grandchildren need to know today. The Way, the Truth and the Life.
Iola Car Show 2026
The hottest car show in the country next week will be the giant 2026 Iola Car Show and Swap Meet in the tiny little community of Iola, Wisconsin. If you refer to the COL Car Show Calendar you will discover that the Iola Car Show is held every year on the weekend following the Fourth of July. This year the show will be held on July 9-11, at the Old Cars Weekly grounds in Iola. It is in its 54th year celebrating old cars. They say there will be 2,500 show cars on the grounds. This year’s theme is cars and trucks that are painted “red, white and blue” and military vehicles of all types. You will see big displays of classic cars and trucks. It is one of the biggest car shows in the country, and one you can’t miss if you are looking for rare old car parts. The swap meet is so big you can’t walk the whole thing in a day. They have about 4,000 vendors covering five acres around the central Tower. The car corral usually has about 350 cars for sale.
Make sure you check our Car Show Calendar so you don’t miss any of the great shows like this one this summer. Click here to view our calendar. You may want to bookmark it for future reference.
Real Super Sport Inspection
As the prices on 1966 through 1971 Chevelle Super Sports keep escalating, it becomes more and more important not to make a mistake on condition when buying one. Condition class determines value. An Iowa man wanted us to go half-way across the country to the West Coast to inspect a 1970 Chevelle SS which he wanted to buy. He was aware that the air conditioning was not working, but he wanted us to make sure the body panels were solid and gaps were tight. The inspector found that the air conditioning compressor was not locked up and the clutch turned freely. Although the body work was done nicely, he found bondo throughout the body. He also found some rust in the trunk due to leaks in the weather stripping. The paint had some scratches in it. The transmission was definitely not matching numbers. Overall, the Chevelle performed well and would be a fair Number Three driver. At least now the buyer knew what he was getting into.
Our newsletter readers know that you should always have a pre-purchase inspection done on a collector vehicle before you buy. There are no warranties on old cars, so it is buyer beware when purchasing a collector car. Click here to find out how to order a pre-purchase inspection and appraisal.

1938 Packard 1601 Eight
A 1938 Packard 1601 Eight Convertible motorcar has been listed for sale through Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. They say it is a real head turner because it still looks pretty good for an 86-year-old car. Although there are certainly imperfections, the black paint still takes a decent shine, they tell us. Features include, a 282 cubic inch L-head straight eight-cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission shifted on the floor. It has a thermostat-controlled grille that opens to improve engine cooling after warm-up. They say the vacuum windshield wipers, the original Stromberg single-barrel carburetor, and a 6-volt electrical system are functional. The interior will show some wear. Click this link to watch a walk-around video inspection.
Ram Air Mustang SCJ
It was the peak of the muscle car era when Ford rolled out the 1971 Mustang Mach 1 429 SCJ with Ram Air and NACA hood. This rare example was just listed by Streetside Classics Charlotte out of their Concord, North Carolina facility. The deep throaty rumble of the big 429 V8 is a reminder of how these cars performed at the track. It has a stout Ford 9″ rear axle with a 4.11 Posi traction differential and Detroit lockers. With dual exhaust, the acceleration is strong and engaging. This blend of performance and elegant looks and interior show how well it has been maintained. See dozens of detailed photos at the ad page. It comes complete with lots of documentation and an Elite Marti Report. See examples of the detailed documentation on the ad page.
Pace Car Used at Indy
A private party seller from Illinois listed an interesting 1998 Corvette Indy Pace Car Convertible which was actually used in the 1998 Indianapolis 500 festivities as a promo vehicle. It is car No. 76, and Festival Car 45, assigned to Pam Janes during Indianapolis 500 week that year. Well documented, it was insured and licensed to the Indinapolis Speedway for the event. It comes with a complete binder with Build Sheet, Window Sticker, letters from the race track, the Track Plate #76, the official jacket that was given to all Festival cars, and more. It has the Granatelli “X-pipe” and exhaust, and is said to have just 50,758 miles. Everything works on the car, and it has a new top and rear glass. This is one of the best documented 1998 Pace cars in existence, with documents which include insurance papers from the IMS, paperwork of delivery, letter from the Speedway about the car with mileage in and out of service, photos of the car at the track, a binder full of tickets and passes for the race, and media guides. This is one for the history books.
Auctions

The much anticipated GAA Classic Summer Auction is coming up in a few weeks, July 23-25, 2026. Cars-On-Line.com loves this auction because it gives us an opportunity to see more than 700 high quality collector cars and trucks all in one place. We can inspect them and know what their condition class is as they cross the auction floor at the Palace in Greensboro, North Carolina. With such a large selection, it gives us a good understanding of the current trends in collector car prices. Classic car dealers and the general public are all welcome to register to bid at this live auction event. We consider it a good barometer of the health of the market in general. What is impressive about this auction is that there are always a lot of collections being sold at No Reserve. So you have a good chance at finding a great deal. Here are a few of the sales we will be watching next month when the GAA Classic Auction once again captures the attention of collectors all over the world.
1940 Ford Pickup
There will be no lack of custom street rods in the auction inventory for the upcoming GAA Classic Summer Auction this month, July 23-25, 2026 in Greensboro, North Carolina. One of the most interesting sales will happen on Friday, July 24, when a 1940 Ford Pickup will cross the auction floor at No Reserve. A bit of an Old School type custom, this street rod pickup has a Flathead V8 engine, with an Offenhauser intake. Edelbrock aluminum heads and a Hunt distributer. The 5-speed manual transmission is operated by a Granny floor shifter. It has that bit of nostalgia along with an updated ride. This beautiful pickup is the result of a frame off restoration. Be sure to click here for a walk-around video and hear it run. With the No Reserve status, you can bid with confidence, and win this special hot rod truck.
1966 Mustang Fastback
Also on Friday, July 24, you will have the chance to bid on this 1966 Mustang Fastback which has been reimagined as a Shelby GT350. It has a 289 V8 engine with aluminum intake and an aluminum radiator. According to the ad copy, it has new chrome and new paint (take a look at all the photos on the ad page at the link.) It is a 4-speed with dual exhaust and a 4-barrel carburetor. This beautiful tribute car will be sold at No Reserve on Friday. The highest bidder will walk away with this highly desirable recreation. Note the Coys 17×8 wheels and real Redoxide floors. There are detailed photos of the under carriage at the link above. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. If you’ve been looking for a Shelby tribute car, you could not do better than this for the money. What do you think you could buy it for? Or, if you own a real Shelby GT350 and can’t take the chance on driving it, this one would show you all the fun you’ve been missing.
1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria
If you visit the GAA Classic Summer Auction on Thursday, July 23, you might get a chance to bid on this 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria. The beautiful classic custom 1950’s car is a great example of two-toned 1950’s styling and culture. It is on being offered at No Reserve when it crosses the auction floor. They tell us it has been professionally restored, and it shows in the photos. From the exterior paint and chrome to the beautiful two-tone red and black interior, this custom Ford is amazing. How can an old car be this nice? From its fuzzy dice to its Dolphine custom gauges, this car is extra clean. It has a 351 Windsor engine with an automatic transmission with Overdrive. The intake and carb are from Edelbrock and it has a Howard’s camshaft. The custom leather interior looks clean and sharp. The high bidder will walk away with this one. What do you think it will sell for?

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1974 Impala Spirit of America
In 1974 Chevrolet came out with the Spirit of America edition theme for their Impala, Nova and Vega models. The 2-door hardtop edition Impala was especially interesting. It came in either blue or white versions. The white cars had white vinyl roofs, and special red, white and blue pin striping and striped wheels. This week a 1974 Chevrolet Impala Spirit of America edition was listed for sale by Orlando Classic Cars. They say this car is possibly the lowest mileage version in existence. According to the ad copy it has just 290 miles from new. That’s incredible. Our readers know that Orlando Classic Cars specialized in low miles collector cars. This is one of their most interesting offerings.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car, Streetside Charlotte, 14,673 actual miles
1969 Corvette Coupe, Verrillo Motor Car Co, NY, 11,150 original miles
1985 Chevrolet El Camino from Glendale Heights, IL, 23,400 miles
You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.
Project Vehicles for Restoration
1955 GMC 1-Ton
A Wisconsin collector llsted his rare 1955 GMC 1-Ton Stepside with a 9-foot box. Only 640 1-ton pickups were produced like this one. You could get a lot of work done out in the field with a stepside and a bed that big. But this one has a little something extra to throw in. Under the box is a a hydraulic to lift the factory 9-foot box. The engine is a 248 ci 6 cylidner and the seller says it runs well. The transmission is a 4-speed manul. He says the truck is completely original and was originally a North Dakota truck (where they do not use salt on the roads in the winter.) If you are looking for something interesting to restore, these are nearly impossible to find.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:
1965 Chevy Nova SS, HaggleMe

It has the original 283 with a Power Pack engine with the 4-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust and Power Pack heads with larger valves and small combustion chambers. Upgrades include a 700R automatic transmission, 4-wheel power disc brakes and power steering. Note the spinner hubcaps. The seller says this one has newer Gypsy Red over India Ivory paint as well. Even the upholstery is new. When he first listed the car, he was asking $125,000. But just yesterday he dropped the price to $100,000.

Deals of the Day
1998 Corvette Convertible
This 1998 Corvette Convertible is a little unusual. The South Carolina seller says it is a one-of-one custom build. The Corvette has undergone a complete frame off restoration. He says it is a “brand new car.” The frame was completely sandblasted, electro-statically painted and some parts were sand blasted and powder coated to perfection. View the complete Slide Show ad at the link. There are photos of the restoration from start to finish. It has a new interior, new carpet, new leather seats, new soft top. The engine was disassembled and has new pistons, rings, upgrade canshft, milled, cylinders honed and brand new headers. The LS5 was rebuilt by Jordan Performance and Big L’s Automotive with only 1,700 miles on it. It rides on adjustable air shocks, and has a new Pioneer radio with Car Play and mapping navigation system. The air conditioning system is even brand new. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $13,500. I think you will agree. That is a lotta’ car for sale money.
1947 Chevy Fleetline Aerosedan
Why did the Fleetline Aerosedan outsell all the other Chevrolet models back in 1947? Well, the Aerosedans had the benefit of fastback styling that was very much in vogue in the Forties. When factory production resumed after World War II Chevrolet’s Aerosedan shot back up into sales leadership the next two years. That is why this 1947 Chevrolet Fleetline Aerosedan is so significant. The 2-door Aerosedan has been street rodded and is now being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. They say it is in nice condition, has a big 8 cylinder engine under the hood, an original style interior and epitomizing the style of the ‘40s. It is in “driver quality” consition, according to the description with some faults in the paint and body. Check out the photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $17,900.
2007 Saturn Sky
Why has history allowed the idea of an American made two-seater sports car to elude us here in the U.S.? Along came the Saturn Sky in 2007, but the handwriting was already on the wall for the fledging Saturn auto maker. The Sky was a great two-seater blending style, performance and affordability. With a powerful engine and 4-wheel-drive, it set a bold standard with its aggressive stance. This Polar white 2007 Saturn Sky was just listed by a private party owner in New Jersey. It has the 2.4 I-4 DOHC VVT engine, and a 5-speed manual transmission. The dual exhaust is a sturdy stainless steel quality. And the seller says there are still only 8,808 miles on this beauty. It has a tan leather interior. The rear-wheel-drive layout contributes to balanced handling and a true sports car experience. Yet the well-tuned suspension system still provides comfort. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday next week. The asking price is $18,900.
1976 Cadillac Milan Roadster
Milan Coachbuilders of California helped Cadillac work toward its dream of building an American two-seater sports car back in the 1970’s. They produced the 1976 Cadillac Milan Roadster under the Cadillac brand. Although only 509 examples were ever produced, they were all hand build by Milan Coachbuilders, transforming a luxury Cadillac into a two-seater convertible by shortening the wheelbase and eliminating the rear doors and back seat. Here is a surviving example with 57,945 original miles, and offered for sale at WeBe Autos, an internet broker. The base Seville body, the Milan Roadster remains one of the rarest Cadillac conversions ever offered to the public. The conversion made the Milan Roadster the most expensive custom luxury cars on the market. It has a fuel-injected Cadillac V8 engine, power steering, power disc brakes, and a comfortable touring ride quality. It will be our DEAL of the Day on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is $17,495.
Ford F250 XLT Super Duty
Nothing dominates the landscape like a towering jacked up 1999 Ford F250 XLT Super Duty pickup truck. This Supercab shortbed 4X4 has been lifted and highly accessoried giving it a big presence wherever it goes. This one looks awesome but is actually being offered at an affordable price. It is currently on consignment at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. The two-stage paint is enhanced by the riveted wheel flares, matte hood stripe, visor and back rack. The 20-inch Fuel wheels carry LT rated all terrain tires. The bull bar up gront frames a pair of LED fog lights under a ood scoop, and smoked cab lights. The tubular back rack houses more lights and frames a patriotic American eagle graphic over th rear window. mesh style grille. Open th door and stairs automatically pop out. A screen operates the AM/FM/CD player over the triple dial pack of the A/C panel. The carpet is protected by Weather Tech. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their aski is geng price is $18,000.
2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder
A black 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder has been listed for sale. The private party seller says he is getting too old (86) for a two-seater sports car these days, so it is time to sell. Let someone else have fun with it. The popular sports car with a leather interior has 107,000 miles. Features include power windows and a 5-channel CD player. These 2.4L examples with 4 valves per cylinder are factory rated at 162 horsepower. The Mitsubishi has a cast iron block. With a curb weight of 3,500 lbs, it is thought to get about 22 miles per gallon. They produced about 10,000 of these sports cars that year. They stopped producing them in 2012. So they are officially now very collectible. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $6,500.
1963 Olds F-85 Wagon
Have you noticed the resurgence in popularity of the family station wagon in the collector car market? With the rise of the mini-van and crossover SUV’s there are relatively few companies that still make the wagon bodies. Car collectors, however, are quick to rediscover their charm and practicality. Here is a 1963 Oldsmobile F-85 Station Wagon that is from the early years of Cutlass development by Oldsmobile. A little rough around the edges, the private party seller says he is the third owner and knows that the car has always been in southern California. Although you can see patina in the paint, he says there is no rust and it still has a clean under side. He tells us it has a new interior and the 215 ci V8 motor has been stroked, and transfers power with a 700R transmission. The car has front disc brakes. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $15,500.
