Seeking Restomod Alpha
“If you live your life one quarter-mile at a time … nothing else matters.” Quote of the day from Vin Diesel.
Often today the most expensive restomod builds incorporate a pro touring concept. The blend of modern performance with upgraded suspension and improved handling makes a restomod dependable for daily driving, or fun at the track. High end restomods combine the beautiful aesthetics of a top show car with the sound and power of a perfectly tuned race car. “Seeking alpha” takes on a whole new meaning when you get in one of today’s enhanced muscle cars with unlimited horsepower and a driving experience that excels any traditional performance car.
No Reserve Classics in New Jersey is well versed in restomod technology. It is their niche in the collector car world. They just listed this 1970 Chevelle Restomod with a Ridetech StreetGrip pro touring suspension. Not only does the setup include coil springs, HO series shocks, and front and rear sway bars, but it has upgraded suspension bushings. It gives those Coys wheels wrapped in performance tires a chance to grip the road in a drivetrain balance like you’ve never experienced before. Under the hood is a powerful big block V8 engine hooked up to a special Johnny Winters-built automatic transmission delivering smooth power through a 12-bolt rear end capable of handling that kind of ground pouding grip.
They tell us this beast of a Chevelle underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration with about 2,000 hours invested in the build. The level of detail and craftsmanship shows. It was built for improved handling and overall drivability. You may have driven a Chevelle in your days. But this is something else entirely. Click here to take a test drive in this amazing modern day muscle car.

Classic Car News This Week
Get That Car Out
It has been a long winter and you probably want to get your collector car out and drive it this spring. You and I both know that it takes a little preparation to make sure the car is road worthy right out of storage. We found this video online that really does a good job of going over some of the important points to look for when getting your car out of storage for the first time. (Click here to view.) It was filmed by Classic Motorsports magazine, and recorded on YouTube. The most important thing they note is looking over the whole car for problems, i.e. cracks, evidence of leaks, worn-out bushings or rodent nesting. Be sure to test your brakes. You can do this before you put your car in motion by pushing down on your brake pedal and holding it for 10 seconds. You should have consistent firm pressure. If the pedal is fading to the floor, you need to check your pressure lines for leaks. Starting the car the first time is an art. They do a great job of explaining how to disconnect the ignition by pulling the coil wire to the distributor and cranking the engine. Check to see that fuel is squirting into the intake when you open the throttle by hand. Cleaning and detailing are the final task to complete before you venture out to the car show. I find it helps to go over some of these How-To videos as a reminder. After all, I’m old enough that I have forgotten more info than most people ever know.
Vote For Your Favorite Car Show
USA Today is running a poll for the Top Car Show in the country again this year. They give you a choice of what they consider to be the preeminent automotive events, and you can vote for your favorite from that list. This year’s selections offer some pretty tough competition. Among the contenders are Hot August Nights, the Grand National Roadster Show, Back to the ‘50s Weekend, the Hershey AACA National, Cruisin the Coast, the Iola Car Show, and the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. This year they’ve added world class events such as The Amelia and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Now that is just loading the pot.
I’d vote for all of them if I could. But to choose just one? You know it’s your duty to vote, though, don’t you? You can vote once per day. Voting ends on Monday, April 27. Click this link to view the choices. Then click the little red VOTE button under your favorite. Consider it your patriotic duty!

1964 Ford Falcon Futura
Scott takes us through a walk-around on this beautiful 1964 Ford Falcon Futura sports car now available at Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. The most important thing to note is the great panel gaps on this car. The hood fits, and the fenders are near perfect. Just beautiful. The red spear along the side looks better than factory. Boy you don’t see straight bodies like this very often. They say they may have it priced under the money for a car this nice. Then, wait till you see the interior. So clean, nice upholstery. There are some imperfections which they point out in this video. Then they take you on a virtual test drive. This is a fun car to drive.

1969 1/2 A12 Road Runner
Mopar lovers will know this car from the rest. Here is a 1969 1/2 Plymouth A12 Road Runner, one of the meanest factory cars to grace a racetrack. You might say they were “Born to Race.” I remember the burnouts they could do warming up the tires for a quarter-mile run. The private party seller from North Salem, New York certainly knows what he has here. When he listed this car his starting price was $1,000,000. That’s a lotta’ zeroes. He says it still has only 1,956 miles on it. It may be the nicest “survivor” A12 in the world. He says it has complete numbers matching engine and transmission. “Every part of the car is original,” he commented. The 440 big block Mopar motor has never been touched. It has the A33 4-speed transmission and 4.10 Super Tack Pack rear end with a Dana 60. He says the Road Runner is fully documented with all paperwork from Chrysler including the broadcast sheet. Just this week he dropped the price. He is now asking $399,000.

Muscle Car Clones
Hemi Cuda Convertible Tribute
A very nicely done restoration transformed this 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible into a Hemi Cuda with a real period-correct 426 Hemi engine, dual 4-barrel carburetors and a COMP cam. You will note that this car was done right with its In-Violet metallic finish and Shaker hood. The bucket seat interior with Pistol Grip shifter shows as it would have from the factory.

Deals of the Day
1975 Corvette Convertible
A matching numbers 1975 Corvette Convertible was listed for sale this week by Gullwing Motor Cars in New York. It has the 350 small block V8 engine and an automatic transmission. Gullwing says it runs and drives “fantastic.” Maroon with a maroon interior, it has a tan convertible top and comes with the factory auxiliary hardtop. They tell us the frame and fiberglass body are straight and solid. It was lovingly kept by its former owner. They consider it to be an attractive driver quality example, highly original and a good value at this price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $19,500. You can’t go wrong with a Corvette. They keep their value better than most collector cars.
1927 Ford Model T
If the steel spoke wheels and paint are showing signs of wear, it just adds character to this 1927 Ford Model T Sedan. It was just listed for sale by Unique Classic Cars in Minnesota. Under the hood, they say there is an inline four-cylinder engine, with a two-speed transmission. In spite of the paint imperfections and dings, they say it runs smoothly as an early automotive example should. This car is nearly 100 years old! It features electric start, a rear mounted spare and roll-up rear, as well as rear-side curtains. They call it a Model T which is easy to start … that means something to anyone who knows these cars. There is a battery disconnect behind the seat for storage. Some original spare parts come with the car, as well as an instruction booklet and accessories. Click here to watch an interesting walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is only $9,900.
1955 Pontiac Custom
A 1955 Pontiac classic mild custom 2-door hardtop has been listed for sale by its private party owner from Arizona. As you can see from the photo, it has a nice look and stance. Dig deeper and you will find that it has some electical issues, and the paint needs some attention. It has been nosed, shaved and decked. The seller says the 400 ci Pontiac engine has been totally rebuilt, and it has a 400 turbo-hydramatic transmission, power steering, air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo with disc player. The rear drum brakes and front discs are new. He also noted that the front chrome needs to be redone. You can’t see them from the photo, but it has ’59 Cadillac rear taillights. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $11,000.
1953 MG TD Roadster
It is no surprise that Beverly Hills Car Club has come up with another great price on a classic British sports car. They seem to do it almost every week lately. Here is a Vibrant Red 1953 MG TD Roadster which they say is numbers matching. Equipped with a 1,250cc XPAG inline-four engine, it is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, and has twin SU carburetors, a setup commonly used on British sports cars of the period for smoother throttle response. Other mechanical features include drum brakes and Jaeger instrumentation, consistent with the TD’s straightforward, driver-focused design. The T-series has bonnet louvers, chrome accents and 15-inch wheels with MG branding on the hubcaps. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week because the asking price is only $14,750.
1989 Mustang LX Convertible
Put a little bit of Shelby styling into a Fox body and this is what you get. A 1989 Mustang LX Convertible with a custom hood and Shelby stripes was just listed for sale by HaggleMe, an internet broker. With a nice look and stance, this 5.0 Mustang Convertible has been upgraded with race-inspired suspension. The original car has just 86k miles according to the ad description. It has a 5-lug conversion with nice looking wheels. It also has Cobra disc brakes. The 5.0L engine has been modified for performance, and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The red paint with white leather interior and white top is stunning in its bright effect. They say it comes with a clear title. Have it inspected to make sure it drives out the way you want it to. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. They are asking $17,900.
1995 Chevy S10 Restomod
Finally, a restomod custom truck that you can afford. Streetside Classics listed this 1995 Chevy S10 Restomod Pickup for sale this week out of their Tampa store. They call it a “super sleeper” S10 that has had an LS1 swap and uses a Hurst short-throw shifter to command a 6-speed transmission. It has 4-wheel discs and much more. We call it a “work truck” with modern muscle! Under the hood, this S10 packs a punch with a 5.7L LS1 V8, swapped in from a 2001 Corvette and fully rebuilt in 2019-2020. Features include a modern serpentine belt setup, power steering, power brakes, R134a air conditioning, and dual exhaust for a throaty soundtrack. It even has an upgraded 10-bolt rear end with alloy differential case and four-wheel disc brakes. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. You won’t believe the price. They are only asking $15,995.
2007 Jaguar XK Convertible
When you get into the fine detail on this 2007 Jaguar XK Convertible you realize that this is a lotta’ car for the money. The Red metallic Jaguar was the design upgrade that Jaguar needed for 2007. This new for ’07 Jaguar XK is being offered for sale at Garage Kept Classics in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The power convertible top matches the interior Slate color which contrasts nicely with the red finish. Inside the cabin this convertible reclaims Jaguar elegance with its burl walnut trim.
