One Year Wonder
Ten years ago we would see one or two of these Dodge T/A Challengers in our listings every week. Then Mopar collectors began noticing how rare they are and the prices started going up. Nobody wanted to sell them. That’s why today we are lucky to see one on the market a month. Dodge created the T/A Challenger to homologate (certify it as a production class car sold to the public) it for SCCA Trans Am race competition. It had unusual features for a new car at the time, i.e. a 340 ci V8 with a Six-Pack (3 2-barrel carburetors) rated at 290 horsepower; fiberglass hood; side exhaust and many lightweight components to make it faster. You can tell it has a unique suspension with a high rear quarter stance and racing suspension. It also came with a functional matte fresh air hood, hood scoop, hood pins, distinctive graphics and T/A badging. Only about 2,400 were produced, and they were only offered that one year. That’s the perfect formula for Mopar collectors today.
A Code K-2 Go Mango orange 1970 Dodge T/A Challenger was just listed for sale by Hanksters Hot Rods in Homer City, Pennsylvania a few days ago. It is located in their showroom now. They tell us it has the date code correct 340 ci V8 with a very rare New Process NP442 4-speed manual transmission. (This transmission was produced for Mopar by New Process Gear as a close-ratio, heavy duty 4-speed. It was phased out after 1970 and is highly desirable to collectors today.) Not only did it come with power steering and power brakes with front discs, it has the Dana 60 rear end with 9 ¾” ring gear, a stock cast intake, rear trunk mounted spoiler, 1” front sway bar and 3X2 carbs.
The black interior features bucket seats, console and a Pistol Grip shifter. You can view photos of the door tag, fender tag and block casting number on the ad page at the link above. There is also a breakdown of all the numbers in the ad photos.
Hanksters Hot Rods has produced a detailed walk-around video on this amazing Mopar muscle car. Click here to view the video.

AI for Classic Cars
Just when you thought you had seen it all, a whole new world is opening up in classic car maintenance. Have you heard of AI (artificial intelligence) where machines can simulate human know-how? Well, believe it or not, AI has invaded the classic car hobby. Somebody has been training AI bots on old shop manuals. You can now ask AI to diagnose mechanical issues in older cars, i.e. tracking down misfires, carb tuning and vacuum routing, etc. AI tools have been developed to analyze idle fluctuations, exhaust composition, throttle response and sound signatures to suggest mixture screws, timing tweaks and vacuum-leak locations. AI models trained on old shop manuals can interpret diagrams, wiring schematics, and troubleshooting trees far faster than humans and give step‑by‑step instructions. Body shops are using AI to match paint by analyzing aged surfaces and predicting how the original paint might fade. Smartphone apps like Sound Analyzer-type tools are being adapted for classic engines to identify issues by audio detection. Some ECU’s from the 1980’s and 1990’s are being adapted to let AI read sensor outputs even when the car predates the standardized OBD-II. And (this one kills me) you can now point a smart phone camera at a mechanical part, i.e. carb linkage, gasket or wiring harness, and AI identifies the component and recommends replacement options. Down the line they say AI will be able to tell you how to rebuild an engine based on its production date, or forecast failures in water pumps, alternators, ignition modules and fuel pumps. Help! My head is gonna’ explode!
GAA Classic Auction Wrapup
If you watched the GAA Classic Winter Auction with us last weekend you saw the hammer drop on this 1970 Boss 429 Mustang for $310,000. Needless to say, good quality muscle cars are still getting good prices. That is the message we came away with as muscle car after muscle car brought strong bids proving the collector car market is alive and well. We had the opportunity to check out the best selection of muscle cars at The Palace in Greensboro, North Carolina as the GAA Classic Winter Auction completed a three-day sale. They sold over 70 percent of the hundreds of cars and trucks in the sale. It was an impressive event to watch. You can read our auction report online and find out what some of the top cars sold for. (Click here to red the report.) It should be encouraging to our readers to know that the collector car market is getting off to a fast start for the upcoming car show season. That car in your garage is still a good investment.

1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham
Way ahead of its time, the 1957 and 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham classic luxury cars are considered the pinnacle of automotive design for their era. The signature stainless steel roof was an outward design feature, but the air suspension, automatic trunk opener, polarized sunvisors and built-in vanity were right out of the Jet-age aura that Cadillac wanted to project. The pillarless 4-door design with the “suicide opening” rear doors gave it a look no other car would ever achieve. For its day, the Eldorado Brougham was a technological marvel. This 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham is one of only 304 ever built. It is seen here in factory Code 126 Fairfax Blue finish, with air conditioning, power windows, dual exhaust and Autronic Eye headlight dimmer. When it was new in ’58 this car cost more than a Rolls-Royce.
Velky Lemans Roadster
In the heart of road racing country near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin is an automotive design shop called Design Velky. David Welky was inspired by the legendary D-Type Jaguar race cars and the Lindner/Nocker Low Drag Lightweights when he decided to create his custom hand-fabricated E-Type Lemans Roadster. This was a re-imagining of what might have been created when ‘60s Grand Prix race cars were in their legendary beginnings. He started with this 1966 Series 1 2+2, completely acid dipped and reconstructed it as a “wide-body” version in steel and hand-formed aluminum. It is aspirated by three twin-choke carburetors and exhales via a custom 6-tube header. The single-seater has an aero “hump” behind the driver cockpit. This incredible custom build is now for sale at The Throttlestop in Elkhart Lake. Click here to watch a very interesting history of the car. It is truly a one-of-a-kind.
1969 Dodge Hemi Charger Restomod
We think the Mopar engineered 1969 Dodge Charger will never go out of style and will always be a top collector car because it seems to be as much appreciated by millenials as it is by Baby Boomers. Here is one for the ages. A 1969 Dodge Hemi Charger Restomod was listed for sale this week at Streetside Classics in Ft Worth, Texas. The classic Charger has been restored and endowed with a supercharged 6.4L Hemi engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Take a look at the dozens of detailed photos on the ad page. The powertrain exhales through a dual exhaust with long tube headers and aftermarket performance mufflers. Listen to the powerful exhaust note when you click on the video link on the ad page. The classic Charger has modern-day upgrades, i.e. tubular A-arms, coil-over suspension, sway bars, wilwood power disc brakes, dirlled and slotted rotors, staggered 18”/19” Budnick wheels and modern black leather SRT seats. This one was made to be driven, not just looked at.
Ferrari Daytona
You might wonder why the price is “so low” on this 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona.” It was just posted for sale by Gullwing Motor Cars out of New York. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, the Daytona featured sleek, aggressive styling that departed from previous Ferrari designs. When it was new it was the fastest production car in the world. The V-12 engine had four overhead cams and six Weber twin-choke carburetors. Its performance was impressive with 0-60 times of 5.4 seconds. It is one of only 1,284 produced between 1968 and 1973. This was the final year edition. While it is just out of a noted collection, Gullwing does say it needs some recommissioning. They say it is not currently running, but they say it is in restorable condition. The odometer reads only 31,070 miles. In top quality concours condition with low miles, this car could sell for $750,000 to $800,000. In very good well-maintained driver condition it would draw $650,000 to $725,000. Check the ad page at the link to see the price on this one.

1956 Chevy Bel Air Pro Touring
An interesting 1956 Chevy Bel Air Pro Touring Custom was just listed by Classical Gas Motors in Texas. They posted this detailed walk-around video with nice musical interludes. The custom colors are so inviting that Chevrolet should have used them. They fit right into the classic ‘50s style. Listen to that fuel injected 6.0L LS2 motor whine. It is so new you can hear the suspension squeak as she drives at low speed. The under carriage is so clean. Look at all that pro touring stuff in the suspension. Then we get to see the interior … tan leather and custom stitching throughout. This car does get driven. There are a few thousand miles on it since the redo. This car is so sweet they had to do a video to do it justice. Click the video window above to see what we mean.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
Pucci Edition Lincoln Mark IV
What the Emilio Pucci designer interior added to the 1976 Lincoln Mark IV is incalcuable. This option was only offered for three years and is hard-to-find today. The ultra plush Pucci interior trim option focused on elegant fabrics, special opera window elements and signature badging. The vinyl roof and coordinated interior design was one of his touches. The dashboard plaque also denotes the Pucci design. With 5,245 units built in 1976 the production numbers alone would not make it especially rare. However, not many of these special editions have survived until today. This one is to be cherished because it still has only 24,000 original miles. It is being offered for sale this week at Orlando Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1991 Cadillac Brougham, Unique Classic Cars, MN, 24,682 original miles
2002 Ford Thunderbird, Streetside Ft Worth, TX, 28,865 actual miles
2004 Ford Thunderbird, Streetside Ft Worth, TX 36,854 actual miles
1993 Corvette 40th Anniv Convt, Streetside Ft Worth, TX, 32,778 actual miles
You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.
Project Vehicles for Restoration
1950 Jaguar Mark V
Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles specializes in finding classic cars that were cherished back in the day but then lost in storage over the years. Many of these cars are easy restorations, sometimes just cosmetic. This week they listed dozens of fresh “barn find” type restoration projects. This 1950 Jaguar Mark V 3.5 Drophead Coupe is one of them. Despite the fact that it has been neglected and just out of long-term storage, the British Racing Green Jaguar has lots of vintage charm. With a red interior, it has a 3 ½ liter engine, 4-speed manual transmission, dual carburetors, read fender skirts, wood trim and steel wheels. In short, everything you would want in a vintage Jaguar droptop. This is an interesting opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.

1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe
Looking beautiful in the high resolution photos, this EB3 Ice Blue metallic 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe carries a highly desirable reputation for Mopar collectors. Sitting just below the Plymouth Cuda big block cars in value, this Gran Coupe is even more rare. Very few came from the factory with big blocks. This one has a 440 V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, dual snorkel air cleaner, electronic ignition and dual exhaust. It has a 727 automatic transmission, Rallye wheels and comes with its fender tag. With hood scoop, hood pins, wing spoiler, wood trim Rally dash with tach, cold air conditioning and fender mounted turn signals, the private party seller says it was built with an open checkbook. He was asking $132,500 when it was first listed. But he just dropped the price to $80,000. Wow! No that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Muscle Car Clones
1967 Shelby GT500 Tribute
The 1967 Shelby GT500 was made famous by the movie Gone in 60 Seconds. Even though the Mustang in that script was a restomod, it made the second generation Shelby GT500 legendary even outside the collector community. After that movie came out we got calls from all over the world asking about Shelby Mustangs. The ’67 version of the Shelby GT500 is still the most popular to own for a Ford collector. This week a Nightmist Blue metallic 1967 Shelby GT500 Tribute was listed for sale by Streetside Classics out of their Phoenix area location in Mesa, Arizona. It is equipped with a Ford 289 ci V8 and a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission with power front wheel disc brakes, power steering, air conditioning and Borla exhaust. The detailed specs say it has an 8” rear end. Whoever did this restoration can be congratulated because it really looks original.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

Deals of the Day
1964 Pontiac Tempest
This 1964 Pontiac Tempest is being offered for sale by Midwest Car Exchange out of Alsip, Illinois (suburb of Chicago.) Even though it really looks good in the photos, they say it is a bit of a project and will need work “before it’s car show ready.” It comes with an NOM 400 V8 engine with quick fuel 4-bbl carb and aluminum radiator with electric fan. A B&M shifter controls the automatic transmission sitting on a center console. The after market intake and MSD ignition give it a more performance oriented feel. It has a woodgrain steering wheel and after market gauge package. The Turquoise exterior has ghost striping in the hood and deck lid. American Racing Wheels give it that muscle car look. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $12,900. Think of it as an affordable GTO.
1927 Studebaker Coupe
Coming out of a private collection, this 1927 Studebaker Coupe is a rare one. Based on club records and auction histories, there are only about 15 to 25 documented cars left in the world (although there could be more out there that remain unrestored and undocumented.) This one is so affordable it might be worth your time to ask the Studebaker Drivers Club how many Commander or Dictator coupes are in their registry. In driver quality condition they often sell for $15,000 to $28,000. An older restoration coupe just sold for $39,000 at a Barrett-Jackson Auction. Pre-War coupes are less common than sedans, so they draw a higher price from a collector. This one may be a bit of a project. The seller is Haggle Me, an internet broker. They say it needs a tune up, fresh fuel and a new 6-volt battery. You should have it inspected before you buy to be sure. But the price seems right according to the limited descriptive content in the ad. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $10,900.
1940 Buick Roadmaster 70
Beverly Hills Car Club of Los Angeles has a lot of cheap prices on collector cars this week. This is one of them. It is a 1940 Buick Roadmaster 70 sedan finished in two-tone Sequoia Green and Chenille White. With all the elegance and sophistication of a Buick, the car has a nice stance with the big rear fender skirts. The interior is a period correct tan upholstery with six-passenger seating. They say it is a California car with a Buick Straight 8 engine and single-barrel carburetor. It has a 3-spoke steering wheel, whitewall tires on steel wheels plus the Buick branded hubcaps. The luxury car features dual side rearview mirrors, a glove box and an analog clock. The Touring Sedan is said to be mechanically sound. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday next week. The asking price is $19,950.
1976 Corvette T-Top
Mia wants you to know that this 1976 Corvette T-Top is in beautiful condition. Watch her video where she revs it up and gives you a full walk-around inspection. That takes you for a test drive. What would it be like to take this powerful V8 small block out for a sunny day cruise? Click here to view to view the video. It has the 270 horesepower engine with Edelbrock intake and carb, automatic transmission. She says it shifts perfect. There are just 54k miles showing on the odometer. You can see the paint is base clear. It was just done 2 years ago. Look at the interior photos. Upholstery looks good, carpets are clean … even the under carriage looks clean and dry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is only $16,500. Hurry! This one won’t last the weekend.
2005 BMW Z4 Roadster
The BMW Z4 replaced the Z3 in the back half of 2002. It came out with a more modern chassis capable of using the 3.2L S54 six cylinder engine to its potential. It had updated technology, used higher quality materials and had the multi-link rear suspension. It was noticeably larger and wider than the Z3. P.J.’s Auto World in Clearwater, Florida listed a 2005 BMW Z4 Roadster for sale this week at such a great price that we had to show it to you here. They say it has only 45,803 miles and comes with a clean AutoCheck history report. The 2.5 inline six cylinder engine is rated at 184 horsepower and is shifts gears with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The little car is propelled by 16” alloy wheels and comes with 4-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power remote mirrors and a tan canvas top. Wait till you hear the sound system. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is only $10,900. Do you have the phone in your hand yet? Don’t waste any time.
2005 Ford Taurus SHO
Millenial age collectors will really be interested in this one. They grew up when Ford created a high performance sports sedan called the Taurus SHO. This is right in their wheelhouse. A private party seller from Ohio listed his 1990 Ford Taurus SHO for sale this week. He says he is the second owner and the car remains original except for the custom 15-inch wheels. He says the air conditioning has been updated, and it has a new windshield. Otherwise the car remains original and in “excellent condition.” Unfortunately the owner is selling due to medical conditions. He tells us it has 113,000 original miles. Owners like these cars because they use a 3.0 liter DOHC V6 designed by Yamaha to have high revving performance with a 7,300 rpm redline. It was a very quick car for a sedan. This unusual find will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $13,500.
1923 Ford Track T Roadster
This 1923 Ford Track T Roadster captures the spirit of American hot rodding with its altered drag car look and wind-in-your-hair performance. Imagine yourself on the salt flats with this amazing old school looking hot rod. It is for sale this week at Streetside Classics out of their Phoenix area location. It has a 360 V8 commando engine fed by an Edelbrock Streetmaster 318 aluminum intake manifold and a Vintage Speed adapter plate with dual two-barrel carburetors. It looks old school but this one has electronic ignition, and long tube headers that exhale through a straight pipe emitting a hot rod growl. A 3-speed automatic transmission (A904) switches gears and the electronics are 12-volt with an alternator. The aluminum radiator and electric fan keep things cool. It even has adjustable Ridetech coil-over rear suspension holding the lightweight chassis to the ground. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. Their asking price is only $18,995.
