Last of the Two Seaters
The 1970 AMC AMX with a Go Package is among the most valuable American Motors made muscle cars of the era. It was the last year for the AMX, as well as the last year AMC would make a two-seater sports car. And, for 1970, American Motors offered a Ram-Air intake as part of the Go Package. Unfortunately for AMC, 1970 was their worst year for AMX sales because of the intense battle among U.S. auto manufacturers to produce the most exciting performance cars for a younger demographic of buyers. They only sold 4,116 AMX models that year. That makes the 1970 AMX the most rare and desirable for muscle car collectors.
A Red 1970 AMC AMX was just listed for sale by The Throttlestop in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The American Motors muscle car has been cherished by a single owner for the past 44 years. The Throttlestop tells us it presents beautifully. They say it still has only 83,497 miles. It has the factory 390 ci V8 with a close ratio 4-speed transmission. A factory Twin-Grip limited-slip rear differential with 3.54:1 gears puts the power to the pavement. The Go Package and Handling Package enhance performance with power front disc brakes, dual exhaust, heavy-duty cooling, and reinforced suspension components.
In 1970 you could order the Performance Package, called the Go Package in the AMC brochure. It included the 390 cu in 4-barrel V8 engine with a dual exhaust system and chrome exhaust tips. It also included a heavy duty suspension for improved handling, Twin-Grip limited-slip differential, Magnum 500 wheels. and a Ram-Air hood.
To find a ’70 AMX with a Go Pack in this kind of condition is rare. They are among the most sought after muscle cars today. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run.

Classic Car News This Week
Should I Winterize My Classic Car?
If you got caught off guard with the early winter blizzard this past week you might be scrambling to get your classic car into storage. That whole process is an art unto itself. Luckily, we have the internet to help guide us in the process. One of the best articles written on the subject was done by Hagerty Insurance. Click here to read their story on “Should I Winterize My Classic Car?” You start by cleaning your car, including keeping your gasoline and oil clean. Don’t forget to change the oil filter as well. Washing and waxing the car will make it safer to use a car cover. If you can’t move your car for a long period of time you should “over-inflate” your tires to keep them from getting flat spots. Sports Car Digest Also has a great article on “How To Winterize Your Classic Car.” They tell you to take your battery out and keep it on a tender. If you don’t have a heated garage, and your car is exposed to freezing temperatures, your battery might crack and create a mess. There are several steps to take to make sure your car is safe this winter. Click here to watch a video on winter storage published on YouTube by Coyote Classics, one of our Cars-On-Line.com Dealer Network sponsors.
Inspect Before You Buy
A Cars-On-Line.com client ordered an inspection on a 1958 Chevrolet Apache Pickup. The two-tone Butterscotch and Cream Chevy pickup was a nice quality driver, according to the tech who inspected the truck. He said it had had an older restoration, probably over ten years old. The evidence was some cracked bondo in various body panels. There was some minor rust visible. But the inspector did not find any structural rust problems. A floor panel was cut out and replaced, but the inspector said it was a very professionally done. He also found some orange peel in the butterscotch upper doors. The truck drove and handled well, though. Overall it rated a Class Three condition. Since the buyer was looking for a good driver, this one fit the bill. Click here to read the report.
The first item on a buyer’s “Must Do” list should be to contact the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service with a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada. You can read our inspection sample reports on the COL Inspection Referral Service page on our website.
This Weeks Featured Stories
1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria
A 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria was listed for sale this week by its private party seller in East Hampton, New York. The classic Ford is significant because it is a judged show car having been an AACA Grand National winner. Purchased from its original owner, it has been stored in a climate controlled setting ever since. The seller says it is in “As close to showroom condition as you will find.” This is the first time it has ever been offered for sale to the public since 1956. It has had one repaint (30 years ago) in Fiesta Red over Raven Black. It has the original padded dash and original interior, a working clock and AM radio. It has wire wheel covers, fender skirts, and he says the original spare has never been mounted. It has had a full mechanical rebuild with only 1,600 miles since. He says the “rust-free” body has all original sheet metal.
1969 Camaro Z/28 RS
An Olympic Gold 1969 Camaro Z/28 RS might be one of the best looking color combinations for the iconic ’69 Camaro. This one was just listed for sale at Unique Specialty & Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. The listing is so fresh that they have yet to post their description. So we assume that it is a real Z/28 RS. They do say that it has just 63,900 miles. We hope they have it long enough to do a full feature video on this car as they often do. Their videos serve as pretty good inspection reports. Those look like the correct Rally wheels. And the console gauges are a nice touch. Original? Call to find out. The undercarriage is so clean that it makes us believe it has undergone a restoration. Stay tuned for more info on this one. It could be the sleeper deal of the week if it turns out to be original.
1955 Chevrolet Nomad
Unique Specialty & Classic Cars in Minnesota also has a couple of very important classic ’55 Nomads in their inventory this week. Wait till you see all the photos on this 1955 Chevrolet Nomad in custom trim. Although it has a custom drivetrain and performance wheels, it is very true to the original look and stance of the classic Chevy Nomad. The floor mounted ratchet shifter will give it away. We hope they have it long enough to give us a walk-around video inspection and hear it run. But that’s not all. They also posted another 1955 Chevrolet Nomad, nicely priced, but more of a driver class car. (You can find it below in the Classic Station Wagon section of this newsletter.) The engine compartment and interior are not as detailed, although the classic car looks very clean. Both cars are priced at a discount to the market according to their condition class. Call today.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1980 Porsche 911SC
Somebody did a nice job converting this 1980 Porsche 911SC into a wide body Turbo Look conversion with a whale tail. Only now it needs someone with the skill to bring it back to life to take over the restoration. It has a flat 6 cylinder fuel injected 3.0-liter engine, four-wheel disc brakes, 5-spoke wheels, sunroof, air conditioning, power wheels and VDO instruments. This would be a strong candidate for restoration with the potential to turn a profit.

1936 Ford Coupe
The oldest listing on our website is about to get a SOLD sign. This very well built 1936 Ford Coupe was listed for sale over three years ago. But the lady selling the car never reduced her price. Chopped 3 inches, it has a TCI chassis with a 9-inch rear end. The custom interior has air conditioning and a bunch of interesting mods. It has custom paint and took over 4 years to build. The California owner was asking $55,000 for the car all this time. But just this week she told us to drop the price to $35,000. Now that’s a deep discount. If this car still looks as good as it does in these photos, this is the sleeper deal this week!

Deals of the Day
1977 Corvette Coupe
This is a 1977 Corvette Coupe being offered for sale through Unique Specialty & Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. They believe it to be a very special ’77 with modest wear on the interior. They say it is well equipped with power steering, four wheel power disc brakes, cold air conditioning and an overall good appearance. It shows 70,000 miles and they believe it to be correct. It has had recent service with a new master cylinder, alternator and AC compressor. The vacuum headlights are said to function with a slight delary. On the interior it has tilt and telescopic steering. They state in the ad copy that the small block V8 is numbers matching with the original 350 small block engine. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $19,900.
1962 Ford Falcon Ranchero
Did Ford have a better idea? Once Ford began producing the Ranchero (half car/half pickup truck) on the Ford Falcon sedan chassis, it was downsizing the idea of a utility vehicle, separating itself from Chevrolet’s El Camino of the same era. This 1962 Ford Falcon Ranchero is reminiscent of that era. It is being offered for sale this week by Haggle Me, an internet broker that helps Baby Boomers navigate internet sales. This Bronze Poly version of the Ranchero has the factory style 170 ci 6 cylinder engine and 3-speed manual transmission. They say it runs and drives great with its Baby Moon wheels. Check out the nice interior in the photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $12,900.
1956 Ford Thunderbird
Our newsletter readers have become accustomed to our saying, “If you find a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000 …. Buy it.” That still holds true today (although prices on T-Birds are coming down with the rest of the market recently.) Here is one you should check out. The 1956 Ford Thunderbird is being offered for sale at Unique Specialty & Classics in Mankato, Minnesota. The classic white T-Bird looks good in the photos. It probably is not going to last a week before it is sold. It is such a recent arrival at Unique that it does not have a description as of yet. They probably will sell it before their IT people can get the description written and the video presentation published. You are seeing it here first. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday (if it lasts that long.) Their asking price is $25,900.
1963 Ford Falcon
A private party seller from McCleary, Washington has a 1963 Ford Falcon for sale this week. He is “thinning the herd” as he now had been collecting high end Mopars. But he says this cool little Falcon is a nice car and should be enjoyed. He originally bought it to turn it into a “gasser” but never got around to it. It still has the 170 ci 6 cylinder engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. He says it was special ordered back in the day to be pulled behind an RV. It now has a T-handled shift on the floor, padded dash and bucket seats with what he calls “factory airplane seat belts.” He says it will make somebody a nice driver. So look for it on the front page of the Cars-On-Line.com website as the featured DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. He is only asking $13,500.
1969 Plymouth Fury III Convt
The same seller from McCleary, Washington also has a 1969 Plymouth Fury III Convertible for sale. This classic luxury car is a favorite of Mopar collectors. TV buffs will remember when Mike Brady drove a 1969 Plymouth Fury III Convertible in the “Brady Bunch” TV series. The seller says it runs and drives great with its High Performance 383 ci big block engine, but the top needs to be replaced. He describes it as “a beautiful car that floats down the road.” Again, he is just simply having to “thin the herd” and will be selling this one. This will be a great car for someone with the time and energy to do a little work to replace the top. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next Wednesday. The asking price is $13,500.
1986 Lincoln Continental
Production of Lincoln Continentals picked up significantly in 1986 after dipping in the earlier part of the decade. The more popular body style and technology made the future look bright for the luxury car portion of the Ford empire. This 1986 Lincoln Continental is a good example of what made them so popular that year. It is being offered for sale by a private party seller from Wingdale, New York. He says it still has only 44,000 original miles, and remains in “showroom condition.” He says it is a “perfect” car. He points out that the paint is all original as well as the interior. “Everything works,” he notes in his description. He says it runs, drives and looks amazing. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. His asking price is just $12,500.
1999 Mazda Miata
Fortified with Mazda’s extensive racing experience their little Miata MX-5 sports car was way ahead of its competition in the sports car market. A silver 1999 Mazda Miata was just listed for sale in our Sports Car Section. It is a fresh arrival at Streetside Classics out of their Tampa location. It comes with the manual soft top and a rare removable hardtop. With a clean history and “cold air” conditioning, they describe it as a “fun driver.” It has the surprisingly powerful 1.8 liter inline 4 cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission with power disc brakes at all four corners. The interior looks real clean in the photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is only $10,995. Hurry!
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
| 2015 BMW 328i AWD | $13,000 | Flushing, MI |
| 1978 Chrysler Cordoba | $14,900 | Mankato, MN |
