Chevrolet’s Top Gun
Few classic American muscle cars have the presence or the provenance of this truly amazing 1970 Chevelle LS6 454. The LS6 Chevelle with its 454 cubic inch V8 engine is the top of the Chevrolet muscle car echelon in car collector terms. It is the best muscle car Chevrolet ever offered. Not only was the LS6 engine a Hemi killer at the track, but it handled like it was on rails. If you are looking for a top collector car as the central car in your collection, it doesn’t get any better than this.
As Verrillo Motor Car Company in New York is quickly becoming the center of the Chevrolet muscle car world, they happened to come up with a 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454/450 that is unequalled in prestige and provenance. It is being offered for sale with full expert inspection records and incredible documentation. It is highly unusual because historians tell us it was finished in Code 19 Tuxedo Black paint with the D88 Stripe Delete finish, black vinyl interior, bucket seats and an M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission. It was ordered from the factory to be one-of-a-kind.
The black Chevelle LS6 comes documented with the Window Sticker, Warranty Book and Protect-O-Plate, Chassis Broadcast sheet, Interior Trim Code sheet (found in the seat springs during restoration) and Owners manual. All this has been authenticated by Chris White of Classic Concours in Upton, Massachusetts with two vehicle inspections having been performed. It was restored to Concours Quality with attention to detail and painstakingly kept to original. The Classic Concours report by White states that it is in exceptionally rust-free condition. The Ralley wheels are said to be original to this car.
As a special treat for our readers, Verrillo has produced a walk-around video of this Chevelle LS6 as a visual inspection. Click here to view the video. And be sure to look at the dozens of detailed photos on their ad page. A car like this does not come along very often.

Classic Car News This Week
Resto Mod EV’s Coming Soon
Although most of us have never seen one, researchers are claiming that the Classic Car EV resto mod market is already backlogged and taking orders. Just when most car collector “purists” are beginning to be able to accept custom resto mods into our thinking, the world is being turned upside down on us again. Now, it seems, the future of resto modding is going EV. This week a company called Towards Automotive published a news release that says the market for classic EV resto mods is already booming. They say the market for EV powered classic cars will reach $660 Billion in sales by the year 2034. According to their report the market for these cars has already reached $245 Billion in sales for 2025. Who are buying these cars? They say it is younger generation European buyers (millenials and Gen-Exers) who appreciate classic styling but want modern technology (navigation, internet and autonomous driving) in their rides. One of Towards Automotives affiliates, Precedence Research PVT Ltd, says younger generation classic car enthusiasts are converting vintage vehicles to electric, blending timeless design with eco-friendly mobility. A company called Olympian Motors is pitching their Model 01 (seen here) as a “Car of the Future.” Will they be the next Tesla? I don’t think so. They say it will sell for about $80,000, but prices on many of the upscale EV classics are predicted to go as high as $150,000. While the demand for these cars is still miniscule in terms of overall automotive sales worldwide, they say there are currently 720 pre-paid orders on the Olympian Motors books alone.
To Clay Bar, or not to Clay Bar
If you run the back of your hand gently along the hood of your car and you feel it is gritty, it may be time to use a clay bar on your finish. You can actually hear a scratchy noise when doing this as well as feel the grit. Or do the zip bag test. Use a plastic zip bag over a gloved had and gently run it along the finish. If you hear a scratchy sound that’s the dirt, chemicals and grit that is stuck in your paint. Those contaminants are attacking your finish and will result in rust over time. So when you use a power tool to polish your car you will be catching some of those particles in your orbital polishing pad and grinding them into your paint causing swirls and scratches. Clay barring before you polish will keep that from happening and leave your finish smooth. Not all cars should be clay bar cleaned, however. Clay bar cleaning is best suited to cars that have not been cleaned regularly and have been ignored for too long.
Clay barring is an art. And it is important to know when not to clay bar. Do not clay bar a car that is new, or has been newly painted. If a car has been washed only once a year and its five years old it is probably a good candidate for clay barring. If a car is ten years old and has been sitting unused for a while it is very likely that it needs to be clay barred so as not to ruin thin paint. Here is a good video that explains the need for clay barring and shows you how to do it. Click here to review the video.
For the neophite, you should know that before clay barring a car you should foam wash it first. A paint gauge will tell you what type of clay bar you need to use. Find out if your paint is too thin before clay barring. There are fine grit clay bars, medium grade (most commonly used) or a heavy clay bar for cars that have been badly neglected. However, you do not want to use a heavy clay bar on old cars when the paint is too thin. After clay barring you will need to polish the car in order to get rid of “marring” which happens every time you use a clay bar. Click here to review a good video on clay barring done by the Classic Car Maintenance channel.
It should also be noted that some detailers swear by using chemical sprays to get rid of contaminants instead of clay barring. But if a car has been neglected for any length of time clay barring could be necessary.
Fall Carlisle Auction
The Fall Carlisle Auction ended on Friday afternoon. It was an exhilarating sale at the Carlisle Expo Center with some of the top cars crossing the auction block. Click here to watch a Live Stream of the auction on You Tube now.
The Fall Carlisle Auction, October 2-3, 2025, is part of the big Fall Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet in historic old Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Held at the Carlisle Expo Center across the street from the Fairgrounds, this premier event always draws interesting classic cars, muscle cars and collector trucks from all over the Eastern seaboard. On Thursday we watched as the 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, which was owned by Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s Restaurants, sold for $90,000. It was used in a Wendy’s TV commercial. The sale was one of the top sales yesterday. There were some surprises. Read our Fall Carlisle Auction Wrapup in next week’s newsletter.
This Weeks Featured Stories
1937 Packard Convertible
Aahhh! To own a vintage motorcar that looks like it came out of the Great Gatsby era, but drives like a late model street rod … well that seems to be the theme of the day for a lot of collectors. Just such a classic motorcar was listed to be sold at No Reserve at the upcoming GAA Classic Fall Auction next month. This is a 1937 Packard Convertible Coupe that looks very original right down to its white wall tires and Packard hubcaps. But under the hood lies an LS1 5.7L 350 V8 with 350 horsepower. It is mated to a 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The front end is a coil spring independent suspension and Ford 9” rear differential. It is from the Dr. Jerry Petty Collection and will be offered for sale at the GAA Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday, November 7, 2025. With a leather interior, blue soft top and chrome vertical grille and trim, this elegant motorcar will be a featured car when it crosses the auction block. There will be up to 750 cars and trucks on the docket during the three-day sale at the Auto Palace in Greensboro, November 6-8, 2025. Click here to view some of their inventory so far.
1970 Pontiac GTO Judge
A real sharp looking 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge with Ram Air III intake was listed for sale this week by RK Motors Charlotte, one of the premier collector car dealers in the U.S. They tell us it checks all the boxes: PHS verified, documented from new, and backed by a complete ownership history. It was then restored to exacting factory specifications. The magnificent Polar White Judge has tri-color stripes, a rear deck spoiler and the Endura front bumper. Its Ram Air hood is functional, feeding cold air directly to the 400 ci V8 engine. The car has its original sheet metal including doors, fenders, quarters and bumpers. It has the Rally II wheels just as it appeared when it was sold back in the day at Haley Pontiac in Richmond, Virginia. Although it retains its factory correct drivetrain, it has a service replacement block under the hood.

1950 Mercury Monterey
The 1950 Mercury Monterey featured in this video is so nice you won’t believe the price. The sharp black finish may not be perfect, but it looks really good in the video walk-around. And we are so impressed by the condition of the sheet metal and body on this classic Mercury. It is being offered for sale by Legendary Motors, LLC in Beverly, Massachusetts. They did a nice job on this inspection video. Very informative. The price would indicate a car that we might term a “daily driver,” but the car shows much better than that. 1968 “Mod Rod” Oldsmobile 442
For the 1968 new car show season this Oldsmobile 442 Convertible was displayed as a concept car under the label “Mod Rod.” It debuted at the Chicago Auto Show displayed on a turntable with a young model in color matching attire. The display was titled “Olds is Young.” The exterior has a metal-flake color shifting effect, while the interior is custom designed one-of-a-kind. It is being offered for sale at Orlando Classic Cars in Florida. Since it was a showroom display car most of its life this one-off 442 convertible is said to still have just 9,000 miles from new. It has a great story, having been brought to the U.S. on the Queen Mary some years ago. Although it now needs an interior, the body looks pretty good from the photos. Muscle Car Clones
1970 Hemi Cuda Tribute
Although it now has Hemi graphics to catch your attention, this 1970 Plymouth Cuda actually started out in the same color it is now. They say it was born with the High Impact Lime Light Green color you see here, and has since been restored to original except for the addition of a real period correct 426 Hemi engine with a 4-speed manual transmission. It is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics out of their Ft Worth store. They say this was a frame-off restoration with a crisp and clean interior. Check the photos for the bucket seats.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

Deals of the Day
1966 Ford Falcon Futura
The eye-catching Candy Copper over black with silver racing stripes and racing livery-look makes this 1966 Ford Falcon Futura Club Coupe stand out. Although there is no indication that it was built to race, it does make an interesting theme for driving around town … kind of a hot rodder image. It is being offered for sale this week at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They say it is a California car and the racing theme extends under the hood with Holley 4-barrel carburetor and Ford Motorsport valve covers and chromed air cleaner. The racing theme continues to the interior where some mild custom items jazz up the ride. The undercarriage is not detailed so it has that “daily driver” type vibe. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $14,750.
1955 Ford Thunderbird
You know what we always say … “If you find a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000 … buy it!” That is still the case. However, here is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird that fits the bill, but we have to caution you to have a pre-purchase inspection done on this one before you buy. It is being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. They say it looks good with the wire wheels and knock offs, plus a porthole auxiliary hardtop, however you have to look at this one as a potential restoration project. There are a number of items that do not work on the car, including the power seats. But for the right buyer, this might be a great “fixer upper” with potential to restore. A pre-purchase inspection would clear up some of the questions about the undercarriage. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $28,900.
1981 Blakely Bernardi
The Blakely Bernardi was an inscrutable page in automotive history. The cars could be factory assembled or you could buy it as a kit to put together yourself. The design was superior to many other kit cars of the 1980’s. It was not based on a VW chassis but a pre-fabricated metal chassis from the factory. Here is a 1981 Blakely Bernardi just listed by Streetside Classics out of their Tampa area store. You can tell from the photos that it is very well preserved. It comes with wire wheels and a fairly clean undercarriage. It has a 4 cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission. The interior photos may show some wear but for the most part it is a very clean car. Some of these cars were fitted with a hardtop. It looks as though this is one of them. Click here to view a walk-around video and hear it run. You should have it inspected to see how it drives out. But this one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $15,995.
1986 Pontiac Trans Am
They say this 1986 Pontiac Trans Am has some GTA items, although it is not a GTA. It does have the WS6 suspension from the factory, and it has the GTA wheels. What is of interest here is the condition of this car. The private party seller is from Venice, Florida, and he says it still has just 67,382 actual miles. He says it runs and drives “just like the day it was built.” He says the undercarriage is clean and th exhaust is new. He notes that the ice cold factory air “works great.” It comes with all the power options. The factory stereo has an equalizer and sound boost built into the dash. It has the 5.0 liter engine with an automatic transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. His asking price is $13,500.
2008 Mazda Miata MX-5
For 2008 Mazda came out with some improvements for their Miata sports convertible. They introduced the “fast-opening” power retractable hardtop which was significant because it didn’t reduce the amount of trunk space. The design was adjusted to make the Miata look more muscular with a wider rear track and a power dome hood, and introduced features such as stability control. So this black 2008 Mazda Miata MX-5 sports car is a significant find for the enlightened. It is being offered for sale with 58,509 miles at Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. This one has the saddle brown leather interior, and the high revving 2.0 liter, 166 horsepower engine. You should have it inspected to get more info. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is $13,900.
1969 Pontiac Grand Prix
Is it a muscle car or is it a luxury car? The 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix was both to a performance oriented young car culture. Young executives loved the long hood, short deck and stance that implied performance. This white on white 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix was just listed for sale by GearHead Classics in Texas. Under the hood sits a Pontiac 400 V8 paired with the durable Turbo 400 automatic transmission, dual exhaust and MSD ignition. And it comes with bucket seats, center console, power windows, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and tilt steering wheel. And notice the Pontiac Rally wheels with Cooper Cobra radial T/A tires. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $19,999.
2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500
The 1994 Camaro Z28 was an engineering marvel. This white version with the black T-tops is so sharp looking it is almost iconic. It features the 5.7L OHV V8 engine with Mass Air Flow system, and a 4-speed 4L60E automatic transmission. It was the first year for the onboard diagnostics system with a reprogrammable chip. The throttle is very responsive. This car is being offered for sale by Classical Gas Motors, an internet broker. It has front coil springs and an anti-roll bar, with a live axle out back with torque arm, trailing links and a Panhard rod. This greatly improved the performance package. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. This car is located in Edmonds, Washington. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $14,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
