Edsel’s Dream Car
Inspired by European automotive designs by the auto salons of France, Germany and Italy, Edsel Ford set out to build the ultimate art deco era motorcar. He wanted a more “continental” European look. While vacationing in Florida, he drove the prototype for a new Lincoln motorcar. He was so impressed that he decided to put the new Lincoln Continental into production for 1940. That first generation of Lincoln Continentals, 1940 to 1942, broke the mold of boxy looking American automobiles. But with war on the horizon, production of first generation Continentals ended because the U.S. was gearing up for military production during World War II.
Here is a great example of the 1942 Lincoln Continental Convertible in all it European flair. An older ground up restoration, the car still presents beautifully today. It is finished in correct Cheswyn Beige paint, tan leather interior and a tan canvas top. It is being offered for sale this week at West Port Auto Center in Fenton, Missouri. They tell us the condition of the burgundy leather is “very good.” The glamour trimmed interior is said to be “elegant” with gleaming gold accents used only in the 1942 models. Known for its prestige and award winning styling, the Lincoln Continental made a statement about what luxury cars were to be in the modern world. It is one of only 136 Continentals produced in the war-shortened 1942 production year. More important, it is believed to be one of only 27 left in existence.
They say the Flathead V12 engine is smooth and quiet. It was designed for touring, floating down country roads effortlessly with its three-speed manual transmission with Columbia overdrive rear axle. This one is ready for club events and cruises. The power convertible top and power windows work, plus it has a factory clock, wipers, headights, horn and blinkers which also function. See the finished wheels in the photos. It has the correct chrome hubcaps and trim rings in “very good condition.” Wide whitewall tires on painted steel wheels, and fender skirts complete the hallmark design that makes this Series I Continental one of America’s great automotive treasures. The first generation Continental remains as an icon of art deco design.

Wavecrest Woodie Meet
We found a great video we took at the Wavecrest Woodie Meet in Encinitas, California. This year’s show is being held September 18-21, 2025. The video was of the cruise from Encinitas to Oceanside where the woodies all gather along the beach. It is an amazing site to see all that lumber in one place. (Click here to view the video.) The San Diego Woodie Club sponsors the show and it is a friendly and nostalgic event. There are lots of activities on Thursday and Friday. Grab your surf board for the big show happening at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas on Saturday. Then get up early for the cruise along Highway 101 to Oceanside for photos along the Pacific Ocean shoreline. Put this on your bucket list. Its worth the trip. (Click here to read our story on our visit to the Wavecrest Woodie Show.)
Dodge Did a No-No
It looks like Stellantis found out its new fangled ideas about truck production hit a snag. In 2024, Stellantis stopped making Ram 1500’s at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan. They moved it to Mexico. Then they replaced the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with a 3.0-liter “Hurricane” Twin-Turbo inline six. So Ram truck sales declined in 2024 and the first half of 2025. Statistically sales dropped 16 percent in 2024. Now Dodge is talking about bringing back the Hemi engine. DuuuuH! I guess so! They are even making a peace offering to the Mopar faithful. They are now offering a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on new trucks for 2026. Beyond that they are thinking about moving Ram 1500 production back to the U.S. because of tariffs. We live and learn. Meanwhile, Mopar truck fans are happy that there are still some great Ram trucks in the used vehicle market. Auctions

One of the oldest and most respected car shows in the country is the Fall Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet in historic old Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During this great show the Carlisle Events people put on the Fall Carlisle Auction, October 2-3, 2025, at the Carlisle Expo Center across the street from the Fairgrounds. This premier event always draws interesting classic cars, muscle cars and collector trucks from all over the Eastern seaboard. We would like to remind our readers that Carlisle is still offering its FREE UNLESS SOLD GUARANTEE for sellers who want to consign their vehicle for the fall auction. Click here to read more.
New cars are showing up in their auction inventory each week. Here are just a few that have come in this week.
1969 AMC Javelin
While American Motors Corporation cars have been under the collector community radar for a number of years, recently we’ve noticed that smart car collectors are snapping them up as fast as they are listed. Here is a Turquoise 1969 AMC Javelin which will cross the auction block at the Fall Carlisle Auction in a few weeks during the Fall Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The ad copy says this popular muscle car still has just 35,000 original miles. It comes with the 390 ci V8, automatic transmission and power steering and power brakes. You should look into this one. These cars are poised to go up in value.
Dodge Challenger Convertible
As Mopar muscle cars have become too pricey to own anymore, you can still have the nostalgic ride of your life in a tribute car. This 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Convertible is equipped with a 383 ci V8 and Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. It will cross the auction block at the Fall Carlisle Auction, October 2-3, 2025 at the Carlisle Expo Center early next month. Yes, this is a rare Mopar convertible with Deluxe bucket seats and a numbers matching 383 V8. It also has factory air conditioning, factory cruise control and 15” Rallye wheels. It has power steering, power brakes and a power convertible top. In its own right, it is one of only 211 383 convertibles built.

1949 Mercury Convertible
With so many ’49 to ’51 Mercury classics turned into customs, it is rare to find an original example left in existence. But here is a 1949 Mercury Deluxe Convertible that has had an older frame-off restoration which still shows well today. It does have some period custom extras. It will cross the auction block at the Fall Carlisle Auction in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, October 2-3, 2025. This red Mercury has a black and red interior, 255 ci Flathead engine, 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and an engine dress-up package. The rear axle is a 2-speed. Note the dummy spotlights in the photos, and it comes with whitewall tires and dual exhaust. The black convertible top is a Hertz cloth replacement. Look at all that chrome and period extras.

1987 Camaro IROC-Z
A factory original 1987 Camaro IROC-Z is a period work of art. Hanksters Hot Rods out of Daytona Beach, Florida has it for sale this week. They did a video to show off what an incredible ride this was in ’87. Back in those days Chevrolet was making Camaros go fast without big block engines. The GM 5.7L with tuned port injection was state of the art back then. With only 56,000 original miles, this car shows well for its age. They represent it as a nice driver quality Camaro. Click the video window above to watch their walk-around video inspection.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1978 Datsun 280Z
Gen-Xers will remember the first generation Datsun 280Z cars built on the S30 chassis. Known as a “poor man’s Corvette” they had quite a following back in the day. This 1978 Datsun 280Z is seen here in its Champagne Gold finish, with only 22,000 miles. This was the last year for the S30 chassis and the end of the first generation of Z cars. It benefits from early Ziebart treatment and careful maintenance throughout its life. It received a refresh at Datun Spirit in Manasas, Virginia where key components wer restored, ie shifter bushings, ball joints, tie rod end, knuckle arm O-ring, sway bar bushings, T/C rod bushings and much more. These cars are what we call “future classics,” meaning they are becoming popular as collector cars for next-gen collectors.

These Mustang GT350 Hertz Rent-A-Racer tributes are so popular. To start with the Mustang 2+2 Fastback is hard to find in today’s market. It is being offered for sale this week at Streetside Classics out of Ft Worth, Texas. Check out the interior in the photos. The 289 ci V8 under the hood starts up nice and idesl smoothly with its Edelbrock intake manifold, shorty headers and Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Deals of the Day
1966 Chevelle Malibu
Not a Super Sport, but a base Malibu none the less, here is a classic you can afford being offered at a cheap price. Don’t miss the opportunity to check out this black 1966 Chevelle Malibu from California. It is being offered for sale through Classic Car Deals, an internet broker that helps Baby Boomers sell their cars on the internet. They tell us it has been beautifully maintained and is now ready to enjoy. It has a rebuilt 250 ci inline 6 cylinder engine and manual transmission. The paint is fresh and sharp, they say. And it is said to have “all-new interior upholster.” They report that it has a straight body and a solid frame. The car has been garage kept and meticulously cared for. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $20,495

1947 Ford 4-Door
A 1947 Ford 4-Door Sedan was just posted by Unique Classic Cars of Mankato, Minnesota. They do quite a bit of classic car wholesaling mostly to car dealers. This classic Ford came through their inventory feed this week. It is so recently acquired that they do not have a description on the site yet. From the photos you can tell it has a nice clean body with nice panel fitment and straight along the sides. The interior looks clean for its age and the mohair upholstery is real clean both front and back. You don’t often see them this clean for its age. Under the hood is a ‘40s style flathead engine. You should have it inspected before you buy, but hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is only $16,900.
1971 Opel GT
The Opel GT’s were called the “baby Corvettes” of their time. They were produced from 1968 until 1973, and you could buy them at your local Buick dealer. But less than 15,000 of these were produced in 1971. This blue 1971 Opel GT is one of them. This is another of the fresh listings just added to the inventory at Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. As of this publication they do not have a description in their ad, but they have a number of photos. We can see it has the 4-speed transmission and they say it has 74,424 miles. You should have it inspected before you buy. You will want to know more about the underside of this car. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $10,900.
1979 Corvette T-Top
A 1979 Corvette T-Top with sharp good looks and clean features was listed for sale this week by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They say it is just out of long term ownership. Having T-tops and rakish styling it was effectively enhanced with an added rear spoiler. You can look through dozens of close up photos to see this car has been taken care of. You should have it inspected by a third-party independent inspector to know for sure. But this one is nicely detailed for the photos. In the driver’s compartment you will find power windows, vintage Concord AM/FM radio, forward-folding front bucket seats, and dual-side mirrors, all designed to provide comfort and convenience during your drives. This Corvette rides on stylish Goodyear Eagle GT white-letter sidewalls that offer style on the road. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is $15,750.
1973 Triumph TR6
Beverly Hills Car Club also posted this 1973 Triumph TR6 Roadster for sale this week. With a very low price point it seems like a deal worth looking into. It has the popular Pimento red paint and a black interior. The TR6 comes with a soft top with boot cover and 4-speed manual transmission for that sports car feel and look. The inline six cylinder engine is fed by dual Zenith carburetors. And it has all the right equipment, i.e. dual exhaust, Smiths instrumentation, wooden dash, 15-inch body color wheels, TR6 center caps, bucket seats, Jensen stereo and a trunk-mounted luggage rack. It still has its manufacturer’s literature and service receipts. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. They are only asking $14,750.
1972 Lincoln Mark IV
Here is another great price from Unique Classic Cars in Minnesota. Classic Lincoln luxury cars are so popular that whenever we see one at this price it sells fast. Take a look at the 1972 Lincoln Mark IV Continental photos. The wheel covers are off, tucked inside the car, and it shows a little bit of wear in the interior. You will want to inspect the vinyl top more closely also. One photo gives it a shiny look, but you would only be able to really know if you saw it in person. You should have it inspected to get a third party independent opinion. If it runs smooth as a Lincoln should it may have potential. You want to know if that front end is aligned and drives straight. My guess is they haven’t had it detailed yet. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The price is $13,900.
1971 Ford Thunderbird Landau
By the 1970’s the Thunderbird had taken its place as Ford’s sporty luxury car, the perfect ride for the country club couple. This 1971 Ford Thunderbird Landau grew longer and acquired an extra set of doors. It is being offered for sale at Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan. The Landau roof was an elegant feature which bespoke style and comfort. The rear doors were “suicide doors,” a neat design because the car is a hardtop. The rear door is pillarless. How did they do that? Most important, though, are the miles. They tell us this car has only 49,000 miles on the odometer. They believe the miles are original. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $14,500.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
