Brass Era Classic
Back in the early part of the 20th Century there were actually more automotive manufacturers in the state of Indiana then there were In Michigan. One small automobile maker in Indiana was the Cole Motor Car Company out of Indianapolis. They produced very upscale and reliable automobiles from 1909 till 1925. They pioneered many automotive innovations during those years.
This week, North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois just listed a 1911 Cole 30 Model L Roadster, second only to Cadillac as a luxury vehicle for its era. At the time, Cole motorcars were as well known for their racing prowess as for their dependability on the road. Although Cole produced 40,717 cars altogether, only 77 of them are known to survive today. And only three Model 30’s exist out of the survivors. This one is chassis number 2770, on a 118-inch wheelbase with a 255.4 cubic inch inline 4 cylinder engine capable of 40 horsepower. It has a three-speed transmission and ¾-elliptical rear leaf spring suspension with power assisted rear disc brakes. This sporty Model 30 was introduced at mid-year 1911 and was advertised as being as effective at the track as it was on the streets.
The vintage motorcar has undergone two comprehensive restorations. After the first restoration it was awarded the Glidden Tour Trophy in 1995. The second restoration was done to get it ready for touring events.

It is the 3rd year for the TCR show and they expect more then 2,000 top show cars to fill the speedway infield. This is where the serious hot rodders go to swap stories and techniques. Watch for our story in next week’s newsletter. The show was started by Bobby Alloway and Gary Case, two of the top builders in the hobby. Hot August Nights
We’re just back from one of our favorite car shows in the country. Bob Boberg, our photo journalist from eClassicAutos.com has captured all the action at the big Hot August Nights car show at his web page. Wait till you see all the fun we had here earlier this month in the Reno-Sparks area. Click here to review Bob’s story on the show with tons of photos, videos and awards info. They say there were six thousand classic cars cruising the streets and displayed at the major casinos all over the area. Each evening all the cars join a giant cruise through Reno and Sparks with thousands of spectators gathered to watch. The car culture lives on in Reno.

1974 Trans Am Super Duty
At the end of the muscle car era there stood just one Pony car that you could still get from the factory with a big bore engine, the mighty Trans Am Super Duty. This week Carolina Muscle Cars just listed a 1974 Pontiac Trans Am SD-455. As often happens this one comes with just 18,147 miles recorded on the odometer. That big engine was so thirsty that it was reserved for weekend drives and preservation all these years. CMC tells us this Buccaneer Red Trans Am is “one of the finest original Super Duties in the country.” They say it is a highly original, unrestored example, and it is well optioned with power front disc brakes, air conditioning, dual color-keyed sport mirrors, 8-track player, bucket seats with console, Formula steering wheel on a tilt column and dual exhaust with chrome tips. Experts believed this engine put out close to 400 horsepower, although it was factory rated at only 290 hp for insurance purposes. This is a blue chip investment car for the ages.
Ferrari 250 GT Lusso
Ferrari historian, Marcel Massini, documented this 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso as having been ordered as a European-spec Lusso, the 101st one built out of 350 over a two-year period, 1963-1964. To say it is rare is quite an understatement. Everything about it is rare. The color is the seldom-seen black over black combination. Massini says it retains its original engine and comes with handbooks, tool roll and the Massini report. This car was brought to the U.S. in 1964 where it was owned by some great car collectors here. Today this legendary Ferrari is being offered for sale by Gullwing Motor Cars in New York. Sporting coachwork by Scaglietti, they say it is currently a well-kept driver quality car that allows its owner to enjoy the mechanical purity and refined road manners of a Lusso.
Auctions

One of the oldest and most respected car shows in the country is the Fall Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet in historic old Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During this great show the Carlisle Events people put on the Fall Carlisle Auction, October 2-3, 2025, at the Carlisle Expo Center across the street from the Fairgrounds. This premier event always draws interesting classic cars, muscle cars and collector trucks from all over the Eastern seaboard. We would like to remind our readers that Carlisle is still offering its FREE UNLESS SOLD GUARANTEE for sellers who want to consign their vehicle for the fall auction. Click here to read more.
New cars are showing up in their auction inventory each week. Here are just a few to whet your whistle.
Hot Rods and More
If you are looking for a high end street rod to add to your collection, you’ll want to peruse the inventory which will be crossing the auction block at the upcoming Fall Carlisle Auction in Carlisle, Pennsylvania next month. Built on a custom chassis, this 1941 Willys Coupe was assembled in 2006 with modern day items that make it a dream to drive. It has Vintage Air, VR3 Backup camera, clear shift indicator, cruise control, an Edelbrock Pro-Flo Fuel Injection calibration module and red neon lights. With two-tone silver and black paint, it also sports all the essential street rod items, such as a 350 bored and stroked to 383, aluminum heads, intake and headers, power steering and power brakes, front and rear disc brakes, and tilt wheel. This Florida car is coming up for sale at the auction, October 2-3, during the Fall Carlisle Car Show at the Carlisle Expo Center.
1928 Studebaker President
What many of us go to Carlisle for is to look for vintage cars like this 1928 Studebaker President Sedan Touring car. What an historic find! This classic car will be a charity auction to raise money for the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The President was the premier luxury model in the Studebaker lineup. It featured a straight 8 cylinder engine which broke the land-speed records of the day. It was thought to be America’s answer to the Rolls-Royce back then as a top tier luxury car. The Carlisle people tell us it runs and drives well with its 313 cubic inch inline 8. Here is a chance to help support the hobby and acquire one of the finest cars of its time.
1967 Corvette 427 Convertible
When the Millers started the Carlisle Car Show and Auction back in the early 1970’s, Chip Miller was a passionate Corvette collector. So you know his connection brings a multitude of quality classic Corvettes to the Carlisle Auction every year. This 1967 Corvette 427/400 Convertible is a great example. It will be Lot # 181.1 at the Fall Carlisle Auction, October 2-3, 2025 at the Carlisle Expo Center. The gorgeous maroon big block Corvette is said to be numbers matching and comes with the original tank sheet, bill of sale from ’67, original Protect-O-Plate, original order page, original Corvette owner ID card and original motor. It has won the Triple Diamond Award with a Bloomington Gold and NCRS Top Flight and MCACN Gold Concours Award.

1960 Corvette Convertible
By 1960, Chevrolet had incorporated a new sway bar into the Corvette’s design which significantly improved the car’s handling and stability. The fiberglass bodied 1960 Corvette Convertible was the last year for the dual headlight look and the toothy grille in the front valance. The Roman red finish with white coves was very popular for its day. It has a 283 ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and a 4-speed transmission. A Connecticut collector has just dropped his price on this classic Corvette. He was asking $79,500, but just reduced his price to $74,900.

Deals of the Day
1968 El Camino SS 396
Carbuffs out of California shared this with our readers this week. It is a 1968 Chevy El Camino SS 396 which was just listed for sale. The price point is very interesting for a true big block car. It was owned by a California senior citizen and is wearing its original California black plates. The paint is old with imperfections as stated in the ad copy. The 396 is NOM but they say it runs great. The Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a mild shift kit shifts well, and the working factory A/C has been converted to R134 freon. Carbuffs reports a clean interior with factory gauges and tachometer installed. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $27,900. Hurry!
1954 Riley RME
Don’t let this amazing offer get away! Garage Kept Motors out of Grand Rapids, Michigan is advertising a rare 1954 Riley RME saloon for sale. The RM series of Riley was a British built sedan that was manufactured under the Riley brand until it was bought out by British Motor Corporation (BMC). The RME was an upgraded offering by Riley as a successor to the RMA series it produced earlier. This ’54 was owned by a collector for 43 years and has become available for sale. It comes with a history of maintenance and having undergone a “tasteful restoration.” Its 4 cylinder engine is known for durability and smooth operation. It was rebuilt at 78k miles, It is currently showing 82k miles. Garage Kept Motors tells us it has been carefully maintained. What is most significant about this sale however is the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday (if it lasts that long.) They are only asking $9,900.
1956 Ford F100
We think this may be the real “sleeper” deal of the week. A 1956 Ford F100 Pickup has been listed for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. It is in what might be called “driver quality” condition, according to the experts at Classic Auto Mall. They say it runs well and tracks straight. Some updates and modern wheels and tires make it ride better than when it was new. It has a 272ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the Dana 44 with 3.92 gears in back. Headers are present for better performance and sound. The dual exhaust flows to turbo mufflers. A leaf spring suspension makes the ride smooth, and stopping power comes from front disc brakes. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $19,500.
1956 Ford Thunderbird
We often say, “If you find a first generation Ford T-Bird for under $30,000 … buy it.” That is still true today. And here is one of the best we’ve seen in that price range. It is a Coral colored 1956 Ford Thunderbird with a white convertible top. This Thunderbird is equipped with the newly optional 312 cubic inch V-8 producing 225 horsepower with a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. This was also the first year for the 12-volt electrical system. A look at the photos will tell you that the engine bay has a dress up kit, including the chrome air cleaner, chrome oil breather cap and finned aluminum Thunderbird logo valve covers. It is upgraded with front disc brakes. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is $28,995.
1929 Shay Model A
There was a time when we would get one of these Shay Model A replicas in our listings every week. And they would always sell fast. That is how popular they are. With a good reputation for authenticity, this 1929 Shay Model A Roadster was possibly sold through a Ford dealership. Ford sold them at select dealerships from 1979 through 1982. The replica has a 4.3 liter Ford Pinto engine with a 4-speed manual transmission. They say it has 7k miles on it. In the photos you will notice it has dual side mounted tires, a rumble seat and black top. It is being offered for sale through Haggle Me, an internet broker. They say it has good paint, a good interior and good tires. They also note that it benefits from a new exhaust, new solenoid starter and new ignition. They say it “runs and drives great.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. Their asking price is $18,900.
1954 Nash Metropolitan
1954 was the first year in which you could buy a Nash Metropolitan at your local Nash or Hudson dealer. Although you could buy them in the U.S. these cars were actually manufactured in England by the Austin Motor Company at their plant in Longbridge, Birmingham. This first year 1954 Nash Metropolitan has a 1500 cc four-cylinder engine upgrade from the original. It is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. The distinctive green exterior paint amplifies its curved design, while chrome brightwork adds period-correct flair to its compact proportions. Steel wheels with dog dish center caps give it an authentic 1950s appearance. The lighting has been updated. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. Their asking price is $12,995.
1989 Lincoln Town Car
My family always bought used Cadillacs or Lincolns because they usually were the best maintained vehicles on the used car market. People took better care of them. Here is a good example. A 1989 Lincoln Town Car was just listed in the Cars-On-Line Lincoln Section online. This is the top-of-the-line “Signature” edition. It was the last year for the long, squared off look. It had electronics which were advanced for its time, such as digital displays and a CD player option. Of course, it had leather and wood trim. And there was so much room inside it you could throw a party. This one has 109,000 miles. Take a look at the photos. Doesn’t it look great. Luxurious and comfortable, it will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The price is just $7,200.
