Swiftie Music Video
There is no celebrity more marketable than Taylor Swift in 2024. So, when a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible was listed for sale this week we got a little curious when the description said it was used in a Taylor Swift music video. Sure enough, we watched the music video for her hit song “15” and there it was, romantic scene and all. It turns out this car was from the Tim Wellborn Collection. Wellborn is one of the brothers who own the Wellborn Musclecar Museum in Alexander City, Alabama.
A collector from Texas now owns the 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible which was featured in the Taylor Swift music video, and yesterday, he put it up for sale in the Mopar Section of the Cars-On-Line website. The original FC7 Road Runner came with factory air conditioning and a power top. It is a big block 383 ci High Performance version with an automatic transmission. It now has a new top and interior. They look great in the photos. You can see why this car was chosen for a music video. It looks really sharp in the photos. They say the wiring harnesses are all new throughout the car. The instrument gauges and dash bezel were correctly restored. You can see the fender tag in the Slide Show photos.
But you want to see the music video, don’t you? Click the You Tube link here.

In its own right, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible would be hard to find. They only produced 658 Road Runner ragtops in 1970. It was the last year Chrysler bothered to produce a B-body convertible. It seems that insurance companies were loath to insure them, greatly impacting their sales.
So does being in a Taylor Swift video increase the value on this 1970 Road Runner Convertible? You bet it does. Find out more when you contact the seller.

Classic Car News This Week
Monterey Week
CNBC described the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as the “Super Bowl” of the collector car hobby. We thought that sounded about right. Sophisticated and high brow in its pomp and circumstance, the Pebble Beach Concours is considered the pinnacle event for vintage and exotic collector cars. This week is called “Monterey Auto Week” along the Monterey Penninsula of California as many of the top auction companies in the world are in the area to sell high quality collector cars as a prequil to the Pebble Beach Concours. The concours itself will happen this Sunday at the Pebble Beach Golf Course. The event will be live streamed for our readers to watch as the Best of Show will be announced. You can find more info on this historic event when you read our Cars Show Calendar online.
Times Are Changing
In a news brief on CNBC, the investor channel, wealth reporter Robert Frank gave an update on what is happening at the Monterey Auto Week auctions in the wake of the vaunted Pebble Beach Concours. He reiterated the idea that Gen-X’ers are changing the collector car market. And while classic 1950’s cars and muscle cars are trending down in value, the foreign import sports and exotic cars are getting an interest boost from a younger generation. The Gen-X’ers are interested in cars like this 1987 Ferrari 328 GTB which was just posted for sale at Motorcar Classics in New York. It looks like this is the way of the future in car collecting with Gen-X’ers ready to invest in cars they grew up appreciating. (Makes sense, right?) It will give another dynamic to the collector car hobby.
This Weeks Featured Stories
1969 Pontiac Trans Am
A Rhode Island man listed one of the rarest muscle cars on earth this week. He posted his 1969 Pontiac Trans Am for sale. It has the Ram Air III induction motor and 4-speed transmission. He says he has owned the car for the past 34 years. Although he estimates that it is in “Driver Quality” condition at this point, you can tell from the photos that this car has been well maintained. It has a wood wheel and optional wood shifter knob as from the factory. The tilt steering was added, according to the ad description. More photos are neccessary to further analyze this classic muscle car. Some of the photos that you might request from him include shots of the Deluxe blue interior. He says this car remains “original” with 90k miles on the odometer. He included some of the PHS paperwork in the ad photos. We’d love to inspect this one for you. You don’t see these come up for sale very often.
Hemi Challenger R/T
Now, remember, this is a “barn find” type car, not a show piece. Don’t get too excited. But this is a real deal 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T which was just listed by a Canadian collector. They say it was parked in 1977 and not used since. However, they say it is a real R Code Challenger R/T with a 4-speed and a 3.54 Track Pack. The sheet metal is said to be all original, and the Mopar time capsule shows only 53,000 original miles. At this price it may be the best chance you have of owning a Hemi Challenger. You will have to do the work to get it back to show quality, however. The seller says it has all the right options, coming with two broadcast sheets, an original tag and a history with documentation.
Galaxie AFX 427
If you are a big Ford muscle car collector, this is your opportunity to pick a diamond in the rough. WeBe Autos out of New York just listed this 1963 Ford Galaxie AFX big block for sale. This is a true one-of-a-kind classic muscle car which has undergone a frame-off restoration. The AFX was an experimental model done by Ford for its racing program. It has the powerful 427 center oiler motor with over 700 horsepower under that fiberglass Tear Drop hood. Notice it has the fiberglass bumper and Cal-Track suspension with 35 spline axle. Wanna’ hear that monster engine run? Click here for the video.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival is coming up on Labor Day Weekend, the last weekend in August. Traditionally one of the best auctions of the year is held in Auburn, Indiana at that time. It is put on by Worldwide Auctioneers, one of the up-and-coming auction houses in the U.S. Their big sale is August 29-31, 2024. There will be over 400 significant collector cars in the sale. They say it is capable of touring.
1949 Delahaye Cabriolet
Collectors know that a Delahaye is about as rare as frog hairs in today’s market. They rarely come up for sale to the public. But here is an opportunity to own one. A 1949 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet is up for sale at the Worldwide Auctioneers event at Auburn in two weeks. They say it is a well-documented and authenticated classic certified by Jean-Paul Tissot, President of the Club Delahaye. It was restored by Chapron, the French coachbuilding company, some years ago. It is one of just a few examples with the distinctive long nose styling, a signature of Chapron. Note the elegant adjustable three-position top. It is said to be ready for touring. It will sell on Friday, August 30.
1929 Cord L-29 Cabriolet
Noted L-29 Cord restorer Ken Clark had

It was toured extensively by Clark. The L-29 was America’s first mass produced front-wheel-drive car. Click here to review an interesting walk-around video.

Deals of the Day
1961 Buick Electra 4-Door
Unique Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota has this 1961 Buick Electra 4-Door Sedan for sale this weekend. But you will have to hurry to get a shot at it. It won’t last long. Look at the photos. This car is in really amazing shape for its age. It has a 401 Buick V8 with an automatic transmission. It has been updated with a Holley fuel injection system. Watch this walk-around video. You will notice that the Artic White paint has some blemishes. The interior shows some wear as well. It has been recently serviced. Listen to it start up and run. You will learn a lot from the video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because their asking price is only $14,900.
1946 Desoto Club Cpe
It may not be totally original, but you might say this 1946 Desoto Club Coupe is better than original at this point. A Connecticut seller listed this low mile Desoto for sale this week. He says it has been upgraded with a Chrysler 318 ci V8 engine and 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission. It also has air conditioning and power windows, power disc brakes, cruise control, and more. But it looks very original with that long stylish front end and all the ornate chrome. As always, you should have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $26,500.
1999 Porsche Boxster
You don’t see a Porshe Boxster in our DEAL of the DAY feature very often. They are so popular that they rarely come at a discount. But the Classic Auto Mall In Pennsylvania has one for sale this week and they are blowing it out at a good price. In triple black, this 1999 Porsche Boxster checks off all the boxes. In the descriiption the Classic Auto Mall notes some chips and imperfections in the paint. However, they said at the test track the car fires right up and has neck snapping performance. They said it was fun to drive. One thing they noted is that the air does not blow cold. You should have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $14,000. Wow!
1963 Austin Healey Sprite
Fresh from storage, this 1963 Austin Healey Sprite is described by its seller as a “Barn Find.” It is a 1275 cc little sports car convertible with twin carbs. Despite the “barn find” reference he says it runs fantastic and is a real “head turner” to run around in. He says the 4-speed gearbox shifts well. The 1275 cc engine is an upgrade from original. He says it has new seats and interior. It has a brand new “day top” cover, as well as brand new white wall tires. You can see some of the blemishes on the car in the photos. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday if it lasts that long. His asking price is only $10,500. Make him an offer!
1986 Chevy C10
A Massachusetts seller has this 1986 Chevrolet C10 Shortbed Pickup for sale. If you are into running around in old pickups as everyday drivers, this is one you should look into. It has a 350 ci V8 with origial 3-speed manual transmission. The seller says the cab corners are perfect, bed is excellent, bottom of doors and door jams are perfect. It has power steering and power disc brakes. Note the long tube headers and new exhaust. He says it is turnkey and “ready to go.” You may want to have it inspected to get a better idea of the quality here. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. The asking price is only $10,000.
1997 Jaguar XK8 Convt
When they first unveiled the Jaguar XK8 as the “next generation” of the XKE there was a lot of excitement about a new legend being born. If the XK8 fell short of that introduction, it still has street credit in the collector market. They are really cheap right now. Will they accelerate in value as they age? One wonders. But they are a fun convertible sports car to drive. Do you have your daily driver for the summer yet? This 1997 Jaguar XK8 Convertible is being offered for sale at Unique Classic Cars in Minnesota. They wholesale collector cars at some very affordable price points. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. Their asking price is only $16,900.
2007 Pontiac Solstice
Pontiac continued to make great cars right up till the end of their existence. For example, here is a 2007 Pontiac Solstice Convertible two-seater sports car which was equally as much fun to drive as a BMW Z3 or a Jaguar XK8. Now that Pontiac no longer exists, these Solstice two-seaters might just be some interesting collector cars some day. This one is also being offered for sale at Unique Classic Cars in Minnesota. They say it has just 20,837 actual miles. What a find! It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is only $18,900.
