Let The Sunshine In
There’s a reason why classic 1950’s American cars are sought after all over the world by car collectors. They are considered as rolling art forms. Not only were they drenched in chrome, but companies such as Ford liked to use bright two tone color combinations that lit up like a Wurlitzer juke box. A case in point is this 1956 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner with the panoramic plexiglas roof that was way ahead of its time.
The black and red tutone 1956 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner was listed by Streetside Classics out of their Tampa area location this week. It is one of only 603 Skyliners built by Ford that year. The bubble roof on the special edition Crown Victoria was an expensive option. As we know it was the forerunner to decades of experimentation with sunroofs and moonroofs. With a good amount of chrome, the top tier Fairlane came with its own elegant touches, including the wire wheel covers, whitewall tires, and the faux dual exhaust tips in the rear bumper. Note the condition of the interior when you peruse the photos at the link above. You can get a pretty extensive condition report from reading the description.
Although the Ford Fairlane was already the top-of-the-line model for Ford Motor Company in 1956, this Fairlane Crown Victoria Skyliner was by far the featured car from Ford that year. Even today, the design holds up as a beautiful automobile. It is a collector’s dream.

Sunliner Inspection Report
We always tell our buyers to make sure to “Inspect Before You Buy.” That’s why our Cars-On-Line Inspection Service is so important to the collector car hobby these days. A buyer from the Midwest wanted to buy a 1959 Ford Galaxie Sunliner from a dealer in the next state over from him. Although he had already seen the car himself, he wanted an independent third party analysis to find out if there were problems he couldn’t detect himself. These are big cars, but the inspector noticed that the braking was a little slow even for drum brakes. For the price, the car runs out nice and handled well. The inspector did notice some waviness and orange peel in the quarter panels. You can read the whole report at the link above. Now the buyer knows the rest of the story.
Buying a collector car without a pre-purchase inspection could be a mistake. The difference between a No. 3 condition daily driver and a No. 2 condition near show car can be a matter of tens of $1,000’s of dollars. You can find out more about pre-purchase inspections here at this link.

1939 Packard Twelve
When a 1939 Packard Twelve Convertible Sedan was purchased new by Chicago Cubs owner Robert McCormick he probably could not have imagined that it would be worth more today than when he bought it. In fact, there are only twelve such cars known to exist today. There is a living record of ownership and provenance for this car, and they say it still has just 34,701 actual miles. What a treasure. It is being offered for sale by Daniel Schmitt & Company in St Louis. The stunning paint and finish are said to be largely original. It is a CCCA Full Classic and eligible for all CCCA events. 1955 Buick Roadmaster
Buick collectors have their preferences. They seem united in their love for the classic 1950’s Roadmaster model. When this 1955 Buick Roadmaster Convertible was born, the Roadmaster model was the flagship model for Buick. It has evolved as one of Buick’s best loved collector cars. In 1955 this car was built on Buick’s limousine length wheelbase, much like a Cadillac. It is being offered for sale by Connors Motorcar Company in West Chester, Pennsylvania. They note that only 4,735 Roadmasters were produced in 1955, and few survive today. This one is a rust free example in beautiful White paint, comes with a black soft top and a red leather interior. The 322 ci V8 produces 236 horsepower, and has an automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. They say it is fully serviced, and runs and drives beautifully.

Avanti II
One of the most popular cars that Studebaker ever came up with was the Avanti. The appeal of a European style sports luxury car was not lost on the American car buying public. Studebaker’s Avanti was so ingrained in the American psyche that even after Studebaker went bankrupt in 1966, venture capitalists obtained the rights to the Avanti name and production forms to keep the marque alive. Here is a video walk-around produced by WeBe Autos.com as they show you a 1988 Avanti II which they are offering for sale. Click the video window above to view the presentation on this low mile future classic.

The Pontiac Silver Streak for 1939 was quite an advanced car for its day.
