Buick’s Big Statement
Buick’s 50th Anniversary was in 1953 when GM promoted their Motorama Tour all over the U.S. They came out with the Skylark model which was only available in a convertible. It was Buick’s ultimate statement to the world that it intended to be a preeminent luxury car builder in the U.S. and the world. By 1954 the Skylark was further refined. Buick collectors seem to prefer the 1954 model most of all.
This Gull Gray 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible sold at auction for $200,000 in 2008. It became part of a collection after scoring 398 out of 400 points in the judging at the 2008 Buick Club of America Nationals. It is truly magnificent with its contrasting red leather interior.
The Skylark Convertible is being offered for sale on consignment at Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan. They tell us the Gull Gray color is very rare and may actually be a “one-off.” They site a Collector Car Market report on the car from when it was sold through RM Auctions. At the time the odometer read 54k miles and the consignor says it has only travelled 311 miles since. Can you say “trailer queen.?” They used terms such as “superb body prep and paint” and “dead-on panel fit” to describe this car.
History tells us that it is one of only 836 ever produced in 1954. It has its own 322 ci Fireball V8 engine, with that super smooth Twin-Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission. These cars were known for their independent front suspension with unequal-length A-arms and coil springs. The ride is so smooth with that live rear axle and semi-elliptical leaf springs. The chrome wire wheels and spinners really make it pop.
Although the body of the Skylark was based on the Buick Century model in 1954, a special rear deck was graphted on with special chrome plated features. The effect is breath taking. With straigher body panels, the ’54 was more desirable in its day and still looks beautiful. It has all the standard features which would have come with the Skylark, including chrome wire wheels with wide whitewall tires and power brakes, steering, seat, top, antenna and windows.
This 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible is truly one of the most desirable classic cars to own. It will be the centerpiece of any top collection.

’63 Savoy Super Stock
An historic muscle car has been listed for sale this week. This is a 1963 Plymouth Savoy Super Stock factory creation designed to put Chrysler cars back on Woodward Avenue. The 426 Max Wedge was invented for straight line racing, and it was game on for Plymouth. Early dominance of the NHRA and street racing made them a legend. Click here to review a racing history by Ideal Classic Cars. They listed this Max Wedge Savoy for sale. They tell us this Savoy is one of only 119 super stocks made. The investment grade Mopar is in such nice condition, they suspect it is one of the best ones left. It comes with an original build sheet. They say it has a correct 426 ci Max Wedge V8 mated to a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. See the photos of the dual 4-barrel cross ram intake on the ad page. Deals of the Day
1964 Buick Skylark
After some extensive work was put into this 1964 Buick Skylark Sport Coupe, it developed some engine problems and the owner sold it to Universal Muscle Cars. The body was redone and the engine problems solved, so it is now a very nice driver class car. Universal had it repainted in black metallic finish and rebuilt the aluminum 300 ci V8 engine. After a tune, they say it now purrs like a kitten and runs out smooth on the 2-speed powerglide transmission. While this car is not a trailer queen, it is a really nice driver class car, they say. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $16,500.
1931 Ford Model A Roadster
A 1931 Ford Mode A Roadster is on consignment at Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan. It was the pride and joy of a long-time Model A enthusiast. His family is now selling the car. It recently was gone through by an expert mechanic who made it show ready. A carburetor kit; distributor kit; Battery; Oil; Antifreeze and spark plugs were all it needed to be taken to the Dearborn Motor Muster Event in Dearborn, Michigan. They say it drives well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $23,700.
1955 Oldsmobile 88 2-Door
Another listing from Classic Auto Showplace might peek your interest. This 1955 Oldsmobile 88 2-Door Sedan has only had two owners since new. It was sold in Phoenix originally and lived in Arizona and California until the second owner found it. They tell us it is solid and mechanically well-sorted. The paint was redone in its original colors, Bronze Metallic and Polar White. The power comes from the 324 ci Rocket V8 in front of a 4-speed Hydomatic automatic transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their price is $14,950.
1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic 76
Here is one you don’t see very often. A 1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic 76 was listed for sale through Unique Specialty & Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota this week. You won’t see one that looks this good in the photos very often. They say the Deluxe Sedan has nice paint overall. Chrome and brightwork are okay, but some pitting is noted. You can view extensive photos at the link. And be sure to watch this detailed and interesting walk-around video. This Olds is powered by the 257 ci “Big Six” under the hood that is paired up with an automatic transmission. It is still running off of a 6 volt system. Itwill be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $18,900.
1976 Cadillac Convertible
When a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was listed for sale by Blackhawk Motors in Gurnee, Illinois, we knew we had to show it to you here. That is because the price is so right! It has its original 500 ci V8 engine which they say runs great. It has power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and they say the convertible top works as it should. What you see is what you get. Check out the photos. They say the paint would benefit from a good buffing. Problems include electrical issues such as gauges not working and window controls for rear passenger. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is only $15,990.
1977 MGB Convertible
Another interesting offering from Unique Specialty & Classic Cars is this 1977 MGB Convertible. For a little British sports car this one is in pretty nice shape. Take a look at the photos. Then watch the walk-around video for more input. This one has a roll bar. Unique says the paint is largely original, but the body is solid. You can see the top in the photos. The interior shows a little wear, but still serviceable. The parade boot is shown in the photos. Listen to it idle in the video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The big surprise is the price. They are only asking $8,000.
1981 Corvette
It looks as though all roads lead to Mankato this week. Here is yet another DEAL of the DAY value that is being offered by Unique Specialty & Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota. They have a very desirable 1981 Corvette Coupe with T-Tops for sale this week at a very attractive price. Code 25 Red with mirrored T-tops, they say it still has its factory numbers matching 350 V8 under the hood and has a 4-speed manual transmission (that’s the way to drive a sports car.) They say it comes with a clean Carfax, no accidents. See a walk-around video to get up close with it. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $19,900.
