Last Year for the M Series
Studebaker had been making rolling carriages since they first produced the Conestoga Wagons. They knew something about engineering rugged vehicles. That’s why many Studebaker historians think the company may have produced some of the best and most battle tested vehicles for World War II.
This week a private party seller from Roswell, Georgia listed this seldom seen 1948 Studebaker M5 Pickup for sale on the Cars-On-Line website. You never see these half-ton M5’s on the market any more. The year 1948 was the last year they made the M5 (replaced by the Studebaker R Series.) The seller says this one is totally rust free and has fresh paint and interior. The 6 cylinder motor has been rebuilt. The transmission is a three-speed on the floor. (Click the link to see more photos.)
Although the Studebaker M Series trucks were designed for World War II use, Studebaker obtained permission to begin production of the truck for civilian use about 1945. The M Series trucks looked much different than other pickup trucks of the era. They had a more aerodynamic shape with vent windows, a feature not found on trucks back then. All M Series pickups came with the Champion engine, a 169 ci six cylinder. It was rated at 80 hp. The M Series was designed by Raymond Loewy, a legendary Studebaker name. The front and rear fenders on this truck were interchangeable. Studebaker knew how to save money on production costs.
It invites notice to find a piece of Studebaker history in such nice condition. The M5 made a distinct sound when it was revving up to 4,000 rpm. It was truly remarkable for a Flathead six.

Here is a 1995 Corvette Indy Pace Car Convertible which will amaze you. It is being offered for sale at Midwest Car Exchange in Alsip, Illinois. They tell us it has only 2,453 miles. What a find! All of the units manufactured with this paint scheme were convertibles. Midwest has produced a walk-around video of the car for your enjoyment.
