Fury Comes of Age
When Plymouth retired the Belvedere name, it was replaced by their Fury model. In 1960 it became the top-o-the-line model with Virgil Exner giving it his special design touches. It almost looked like a space ship floating down the road with Cadillac-like suspension, providing a true luxury ride. It was the last year for the big tail fins, and boy did this car have them.
The 1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible may be one of the rarest early 1960’s cars to exist today. It’s not like they were a limited edition. They made over 7,000 of them. But for whatever reason, there are not very many that have survived. If you find one for sale in today’s collector car market they sell pretty fast.
Luckily, Ellingson Motorcars in Rogers, Minnesota has one for sale in their inventory. This 1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible comes in its original color of Sky Blue with Caribbean Blue front fender inserts. It is a stunning presentation. The gold Fury logo is highlighted nicely. If you look through the photos on their ad page (click here to review the photos) you will notice the Fury medallions on the fins. This was a one-year only treatment because the fins disappeared after 1960.
Ellingson tells us the blue vinyl power convertible top works great, going up and down with the simple push of a button. This Plymouth Fury sits on 4 wide whitewall bias-ply tires with the correct factory wheel covers. The dash is a space-age design way ahead of its time. Notice the transmission push buttons in the dash. This car has the bullet proof 318 ci V8 Mopar engine. With dual exhaust it makes a nice sound for a big car. Click here to review an interesting video full of historical notes and replete with audio of the engine starting up and running.

Million Dollar GTO
During the amazingly successful Mecum Collector Car Auction in Kissimmee, Florida last weekend, a new mark was set for Pontiac GTO’s. This Orbit Orange 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible with rare factory Ram Air IV manifolds was sold for $1.1 million. That is the most money ever paid for a GTO. (Follow this link to review other million-dollar cars sold at the Mecum last week as reported by eClassicAutos.com.) The featured GTO was part of the Chuck Cocoma Judge & Ram Air IV GTO collection. It had a known history and is one of those spectacular muscle cars that comes with a good story behind it. It arrived from the factory equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes, stereo 8-track tape player, console and hood tach. The beautiful GTO had been treated to an extensive body-off-frame restoration, and then won a boat load of awards from top tier concours shows throughout the U.S.

Early Viper
Can you say “Born To Be Collectible?” The Dodge Viper premiered in showrooms in January of 1992. The Viper project was one of Carroll Shelby’s personal triumphs. So it is extremely interesting to collectors to find this rare 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10 listed for sale at Heaton Hot Rods in Joliet, Illinois. It is one of only 285 cars built in 1992. And this one may be the best one of them all. It still has only 210 miles on the odometer. The Gen 1 Viper is Number 153 of the first batch that year. It is one of the very first cars ever built. Several items on the car that are specific to this year only, including the specific antenna, and you will find the hood stamping with production number. The VIN’s indicate build and production, #153 of 285. This one has been preserved with investment and collectibility in mind.

1974 Super Duty TA
This rarely happens. This week there are two 1974 Super Duty Trans Am muscle cars in the week’s new listings. The one shown here is being offered for sale by a private collector out of Lewistown, Montana. The special 1974 Pontiac Trans Am SD-455 is said to be numbers matching with all mechanical components restored to factory specs. The seller says it has undergone a concours quality rotisserie restoration. It comes with a factory window sticker. The color is the iconic Buccaneer Red with a white interior. The 1974’s were the last of a breed of Pontiac Pony cars with the incredible high output motors. They signify the end of an era. You will find another 1974 Pontiac TA SD-455 in the Pontiac Muscle Car section below in this newsletter.

Deals of the Day
1941 Cadillac Series 62
There are so many great vintage and classic cars for sale today in our new listings. You will have to sort through to find the best deals. So here is one to consider. Cody’s Classic Cars out of Stanley, Wisconsin has just posted a 1941 Cadillac Series 62 for sale. Of course you should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry! This one is priced well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is $17,900.
1954 Ford Crestline Victoria
A very desirable 1954 Ford Crestline Victoria is available for sale in Cadillac, MI this week. The broker is Classic Cars Deals. They tell us it is a 2-door hardtop with the 239 V8 and Ford o Matic. They say it has had a frame restoration, and comes with factory power steering, power seats and power windows. It will be our Deal of the Day on Sunday. The asking price is $21,900. Have this one inspected, would you? We’d like to see what condition it is in ourselves.
1964 Corvair Convertible
A private party collector out of E Hampton, New York is offering his 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible for sale. It would be your ticket to joining the national Corvair Club. He says it has been restored to original with the 6 cylinder, 110 horsepower motor and a 4-speed transmission. It has factory tinted glass, padded dash, and a complete new interior and a convertible top. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The price is affordable at $17,000.
1968 GMC Fire Truck
The Beaver Lake Fire Department may be missing their big tanker. That’s because the 1968 GMC Fire Truck is being offered for sale this week on Cars-On-Line. The C.O.E Tanker with cab over has a 396 big block gas engine and has been retrofitted with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. It also has power steering, 3 axles with air brakes, air locking differentials and an aluminum water tank with a pump which can be activated from the cab. This very unusual vehicle will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The seller is only asking $4,000.
1951 Packard 200
Every once in a while you just get lucky. Could this be your day? Here is a 1951 Packard 200, a classic sedan that we think has the potential for being a “lot of car for the money.” That said, you should really take advantage of the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service so you really know what you are getting into. It is being offered for sale at Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin. They tell us it runs “whisper quiet,” and is believed to have just 37k actual miles. The interior remains original. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $12,900.
1937 Dodge D5
Here is another offering from Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin. They have a 1937 Dodge D5 Sedan that is so reasonably priced we had to show it to you here. Obviously with a price this low you don’t expect a trailer queen. So understand that a pre-purchase inspection would give you a world of information about the car. But here is a survivor which they believe still has just 40k miles. It has the desirable suicide doors. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. Their asking price is $9,900.
1952 Ford Crestline
You might be looking at the sleeper deal of the bunch here. This is a sharp looking 1952 Ford Fairlane Crestline Victoria. The Crestline was the top of the food chain at Ford. It is being offered for sale by Classic Car Deals, an internet broker. They say it has a smooth running “flat head” 239 V8 completely gone through, paired up with a “three on the tree” manual transmission. But the best part is the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $17,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
1941 Ford Coupe | $11,500 | Indiana |
1962 Corvair Convertible | $13,995 | Krum, TX |
1973 Chrysler Newport | $7,900 | Stanley, WI |
