Ford Turns the Page
The year 1968 was a big year for Ford Motor Company. They came out with their new 302 small block motor and it was featured in Mustangs and Cougars and with cars such as this 1968 Shelby GT350 Convertible. It was also the year that Ford took over production of the Shelby Mustang as Carroll Shelby was much involved with Ford’s racing program. Shelby American had already engineered a new nose with bigger radiator shroud, double ram air hood, and a roll-bar for their new convertibles. Ford would upgrade the suspension and handling on their Mustang Mach 1 and Boss series cars by taking inspiration from the ’68 Shelby model.
The 1968 Shelby GT350 Convertible you see here is being offered for sale by a private party collector in Houston, Texas today. He says it is a rust-free survivor which was sold new in New Mexico. The color is original Lime Gold with a black interior and white vinyl top. Amazingly, it still has only 55,531 original miles. You can see a photo of the framed Elite Marti report in the photos on the ad page. The seller says it has a numbers matching 302 engine which is all original except for the 650 cfm Holley carburetor that sits atop the motor. But the seller says he has the original carburetor which will go with the sale. He says the 4-speed manual transmission is numbers matching also. It should be noted that this car is listed in the Shelby Registry.
If you read the Marti Report you will see that there were 404 GT350 convertibles produced in 1968, the first year of convertible production for Shelby cars. Only 214 came with the 4-speed. Only 34 of these cars were painted Lime Gold from the factory. And this is one of only 17 which came equipped with the special Cooling Package. This car has the distinction of being the only Lime Gold convertible shipped to a dealer in the Western United States.

Aston Martin Mystery Car
In celebration of their 110th Anniversary, Aston Martin, the exclusive British luxury car brand, is teasing a special edition exotic car. In a definitive marketing move, they have not revealed the name of the car, but sent out this photo this week in a press release. The exotic super car does not have the look of the Valkyrie so we assume they have put together a completely new high tech electric super car that will wow the daylights out of everyone at next year’s car shows. It may be related to the concept car which Aston Martin called the Valhalla. The company has promised to unveil the DBS 770 Ultimate this month in time for the 2023 new car shows. Aston Martin is planning a big event display for the 2023 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and they have promised to have a surprise at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK and at the Pebble Beach Concours.

2023 Corvette
Our first siting of a 2023 Corvette on the resale market happened this week as a Chicago area enthusiast listed this Hypersonic Gray C8 for sale. He says it is still brand new with only three miles on the car. That’s right, just three miles. It has the Z51 and 2LT packages with a Sky Cool Gray interior and 20-spoke Forged Machined Face wheels. It is equipped with a low rise spoiler, transparent roof panel and body colored exterior accents. The seller says “Why wait 12-15 months for delivery” when you can have this one now. The C8 Stingray is the first Corvette that experts refer to as “a super car.” The 2LT package includes heated and ventilated seats, navigation with an 8” display, a 14-speaker Bose sound system, 12-inch driver display, rear camera mirror, front and rear parking cameras and wireless phone charging. Yeah, it’s loaded.

Deals of the Day
1967 Olds Cutlass Supreme
During the 1960’s the Oldsmobile Cutlass emerged as the trendy luxury muscle car for the Yuppy class (upwardly mobile suburbanites). This 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme is a meaningful example of “why.” Offered this week for sale at East Coast Classic Cars in Lillington, North Carolina, it came with a sleek body that really appealed to the young executive of the time. Powered by a 330 cubic inch engine with Ultra High Compression 320 hp, 3-speed Automatic transmission and dual exhaust, it is a great example of a big American made cruiser. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is $20,000. That’s a lotta’ car for the money.
1974 Cadillac DeVille
With all the hype and enthusiasm for muscle cars and sports cars these days, there are some really interesting collector cars that don’t get the respect they deserve. One might overlook a great car like this 1974 Cadillac DeVille 4-Door when it might just be a diamond in the rough. It is being offered for sale this week at Cody’s Classic Cars in Stanley, Wisconsin. This is one dealer where you can still get a good deal. Of course, as always, you should have it inspected before you buy. But don’t dawdle. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $12,900.
1989 Dakota Convertible
Chrysler execs decided that what the world needed was a convertible sport truck, so they outfitted their little truck as the 1989 Dodge Dakota Convertible Sport. Although they did not sell well in the mass market, they are a treasure of automotive history, and a real find for collectors today. This one is being offered for sale by a private party seller out of Georgia. He says it has a new top along with rack and pinion, plus an alignment. The sound system has been updated and it has a new bed cover, headliner and visors. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The price is $11,900.
1975 MG Midget
Sometimes you just get lucky. This week a 1975 MG Midget Mark IV was listed by Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin. Now most of these cars, if you find them in the Midwest, are badly in need of TLC. But here is one which they say has just had a real nice repaint over a solid Florida car. They say the interior even shows well. In the ad copy it says the car “runs and drives excellent,” and shows 44k miles. It has a new convertible top. Recent work includes, “new exhaust, all new brake lines, wheel cylinders, shoes and master cylinder. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $8,750.
1975 VW Beetle Convertible
1 of 3,581 Cabriolets imported to the US in 1975, this red Volkswagen Beetle Convertible was fitted with a new black convertible top in 2022. It is being offered for sale at Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin. The listing says it has a 1585cc 4cylinder engine with 4-speed manual transmission. They say the interior shows well with no rips or tears and is showing 63k miles. With a few nicks and scratches, it is at best a driver quality car. You should have a pre-purchase inspection to get a better read on the condition class. But most important, they say it runs and drives well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. Their asking price is $14,900.
2004 Mercedes SL500
You can tell from the photos that this 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500 has been well cared for. Look where they store it. A private party seller from Delray Beach, Florida listed it for sale. He says it is “gorgeous”with low mileage and “great curb appeal.” He says it performns as well as it looks. Still “runs, drives and looks as new.” It has the very desirable retractable hardtop/convertible. He says all services are up to date. But the best part is the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $18,100.
