Fastest Production Car of Its Time
Every once in a decade a car manufacturer goes beyond the pale to produce a car so ahead of its time that it becomes legend from the gitgo. They say the design staff at the Coventry plant got so caught up in the design of the Jaguar XJ220 that it became an obsession to create the greatest sports car of all time. It was named the XJ220, referring to the 220 miles per hour factory rated top speed. As the costs mounted to build such a car, the price of the JX220 reached 470,000 pounds sterling. Sadly, only 282 of the XJ220 exotic sports cars was produced before the project was shut down by Jaguar. But that makes them so rare and desirable that they are revered in today’s collector car world.
In a rare offering, Legendary Motorcar Company has listed this 1993 Jaguar XJ220 for sale this week. One of the most coveted super cars ever introduced, the XJ220 still has just 703 actual miles as reported in the Legendary Motorcar Company review. It has the JV6 mid-mounted Turbocharged V6 engine tuned to produce 542 horsepower.
Shown on rare occasions, the XJ220 scored a 9.998 at the Jaguar Club of Florida Concours d’Elegance in 2021, and had previously taken a Best-in-Class award nationally. The car achieved a Best in Class win at the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, also in 2021. Of course, it comes heavily documented and has a known history. The XJ220 will be referred to in the same breath as the Ferrari F40, the Porsche 959 or the Bugatti EB110.

Classic Car News This Week
New Website
The Cars-On-Line.com website upgrade is getting rave reviews from our readers and advertisers. The “new look” Cars-On-Line website was launched this week. As you may have noticed we are still working some of the bugs out. Advertisers finding out how to log in seems to be the biggest learning curve. The new site requires our members to reset their password. You can use your same user email to log in, but you will need to use the Forgot Password function to reset your password.
The new site is more interactive and more fun to browse all of the many functions of the Cars-On-Line website. It will pull more traffic for our advertisers, and smooths out the listing process. Photos will now load in the blink of an eye, curing a problem we could not overcome on the old site structure.
To view ads on the new site all you have to do is click the “Vehicles For Sale” link at the top of the home page. There you will find hundreds of categories of ads to review. Click here to see for yourself. Try typing in your favorite keyword into the Search Function at the top of the page, i.e., Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, etc. The addition of thumbnail photos to the listings menus makes viewing the ads easier and more fun to browse.

Rare Shelby Series 1
Carroll Shelby, for all of his successes in designing and racing sports cars, had never built a car from the ground up. He decided to scratch that itch when he developed his seminal achievement, the Shelby Series 1 exotic super car. This pristine 1999 Shelby Series 1 is being offered for sale by Fast Lane Classic Cars in St Charles, Missouri. They tell us it is the #004 car produced out of just 249 Series 1 cars every built. And they say it still has just 739 miles recorded since new. Shelby’s fascination with the Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0L DOHC V8 lead him to use the versatile power plant producing 320 horsepower. It has a ZF 6-speed manual transaxle. It was one of the first uses of carbon fiber and fiberglass together over an aluminum chassis. Race shop equipment such as the double wishbone suspension, inboard coilover shocks and 4-wheel disc brakes were also used. Click the link to review dozens of detailed photos.

1979 Oldsmobile Hurst W-30
Rich also has a great deal on a 1979 Oldsmobile Hurst W-30 in his inventory this week. About 2,500 of these were produced based on the Cutlass Calais. This one will be our Deal of the Day on Sunday. The asking price is $14,999. You can’t beat that with a stick.
1949 Ford Coupe
The 1949 Ford Coupe with the single “bullet” front grille was a popular “new” body style and look for that era. It was one of the first new body styles to come out after World War II. Anything different was popular. This 2-Door Coupe is a “good solid car says Haggle Me, an internet broker representing their collector client. They say the car comes from Florida, and has a stock flathead V8 engine, 3-speed manual transmission, converted 12-volt electrical system, dual exhaust, aftermarket air conditioning and nice custom interior. In their words, “This car runs and drives excellent!” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their price: $19,900.

If you have an adventurous spirit and a knack for working on British sports cars, this 1960 Triumph TR3 Roadster is a great find.
