Last of the Muscle Cars
As the muscle car era was drawing to a close, Pontiac was one of the holdout car companies clinging to the performance era with their Trans Am pony car. The last of the breed was the Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455. Many consider it to be the last great American muscle car.
Little did we know that a Buccaneer Red 1973 Pontiac Trans Am SD-455 would appear in our fresh New Listings this week. It was posted for sale by Motorcar Classics out of Farmingdale, New York (Long Island area.) They say it is a documented two-owner Super Duty 455 showing just 56,160 actual miles. This numbers-matching example has a known history having remained with its original owner for its entire life. So it has an extraordinary level of provenance. It is one of only 180 Super Duty Trans Ams equipped with the Hydramatic transmission. Documented by its PHS records, this highly optioned SD-455 came with the Lamp Group, AM radio with 8-track stereo, center console, roof moldings, Trans Am hood decal, tinted glass, electronic rear defroster, Ram Air hood, power windows, Delco battery, and GR70x15 Honeycomb wheels. An expert has authenticated the engine, transmission and differential as being authentic to the car.
The Super Duty Trans Am comes with the original title, bill of sale, owner’s manual, operating instructions, maintenance schedule pamphlet, PHS documents and window sticker. Motorcar Classics tells us it handles and performs as you would expect form a Trans Am with this kind of power. Having undergone a high quality restoration about ten years ago, it is repainted in its original Buccaneer Red. They say the original XD-code engine was rebuilt to factory specifications in 2000. An SD-455 has a distinquishable exhaust note. You will notice that this car has it.
Try to find another that is this stunning and authentic. This one is among the finest you will ever see.

Best Car Show
Our newsletter readers will remember when we posted a link to the USA Today annual poll to pick the Best Car Show in the U.S. Well, the results are in and the Best Car Show in the country, as chosen by popular vote, is Cruisin’ The Coast, a week-long celebration cruise which tours the Mississippi Gulf Coast from Gulfport to New Orleans. They say about 9,000 vehicles participate in the giant cruise that extends all along the Gulf of America on Hwy 90. It is often referred to as “America’s largest block party,” taking place each fall starting in early October. Multiple car shows are set up each day in 12 different cities from Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula. Rock bands and local car enthusiasts show up at each venue to view the incredible rides. This is the sixth year in a row that Cruisin’ The Coast has won the USA Today poll. It is just that popular. Click this link for a look at which shows made the Top 10 list for USA Today and how they ranked.

Last week we initiated our Most Popular Muscle Car poll to answer the question, “Which muscle car is the Best of All Time.” We want all muscle car fans to vote so that we get a broad survey group. That way we will find out once and for all which muscle car is the most popular. So far there is a three-way tie with Pontiac GTO, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Dodge Challenger all tied with 12 percent of the vote each. If you haven’t voted yet, we need your input.

1966 Chevelle SS L78
Ohio drag racing fans may know this car. It was raced locally for 12 years. You see it here still in its racing livery. This is a 1966 Chevelle SS L78 which has just been listed for sale by its private party owner from Louisville, Ohio. After being retired for some years because the engine dropped a valve in 1981, it was acquired by its current owner and brought back to life in 2012. He says it still has its EG-coded engine and a 4:10 KK-coded rear axle. According to the L78 Registry there were 3,099 L78 396/375 horsepower Chevelles produced that year. It also has a “correct” Muncie M-21 4-speed transmission. The seller says this car retains its original sheet metal and door panels. All of the glass is original. Although the body shows bumps and brusies, it represents a nice piece of racing history. The seller has the Protect-O-Plate and pictures of the car on the track from back in the day. Provenance is included.
Ricky Stenhouse’s 2017 Ford GT
NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., was the first owner of this Frozen White 2017 Ford GT. You will note that his car was No. 17 that year, and this GT is also serial number 00017 produced from the factory. Can you say provenance? It was born to be collectible, blending factory originality with collector-grade preservation. It has only 210 original miles. It is fully wrapped in PPF XPEL, and the dihedral doors lift upward over exposed carbon fiber body accents. Titanium lug nuts secure the 20” carbon fiber wheels with Michelin 245/35R20 in front and 325/30R20 in the rear. The wheels are highlighted by Orange brake calipers. A Titanium exhaust exits through dual Titanium outlets. The Launch Control interior is a stripped-down showcase of race-bred functionality. But the 3.5L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque is for real. Chevrolet Cameo Carrier
The 1950’s saw Chevrolet roll out its Task Force program for pickup trucks that would serve the American people. It was designed with something for everyone, from farmers and construction crews, to the growing population of suburban homeowners with agrarian needs. Here is a 1958 Chevrolet 3100 Apache Cameo Carrier Pickup which was designed for the latter. It is being offered for sale this week at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They say this Fleetside version underwent a frame off restoration in 2012. It is one of one of 1,405 3100 series trucks that came with the Cameo package in ’58. The Cameo was the top-of-the-line trim package considered the luxury edition of the Task Force series. You see it here in its Bombay White finish which has some imperfections as described in the ad description. You will want to view the photos of the 283 ci V8 engine compartment. The truck has been converted to 12-volt with a PerTronix electronic ignition. They say it drives out nice.

1967 Chevy Malibu
Shown here in gorgeous Tuxedo Black paint is a 1967 Chevy Malibu which has been restored as an SS Tribute. It is being offered for sale this week at Southern Motors in Michigan. Dave can’t say it enough in the video, this car is really straight and the paint is spectacular considering it is a black car. With only about 83,000 miles on the car, he says it runs and performs strong. It has all the SS trim, Cooper Cobra tires, Rally wheels, dual chrome mirrors. The car actually has a 454 big block engine. Dave says it sounds like it has a Thumper cam. You be the judge. Click the video window above to review a walk-around inspection and hear it run.

1955 Chevy 210 Custom
A Texas collector spent his time and money on perfecting the reimagined next generation of classic Tri-Fives. The result was this stunning 1955 Chevy 210 Custom. Take a look down the side and see what it takes to make a black sedan this straight. It is powered by a Gen 3 5.3 Liter Chevy performance engine with .498 lift. The body was dropped two inches with dual adjustable coil-overs front and rear, tubular A-arms and triangulated 4-link. It was mini-tubbed with a narrowed 9” rear end and 350 Posi. It has 4-wheel disc brakes and an EFI inspired fuel tank. You might consider it a work of art. He was asking $95,000 for this car up until this week. He just dropped the price to $70,000. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

426 Hemi Challenger Tribute
An absolutely gorgeous 1971 Dodge Challenger 426 Hemi R/T Tribute is awaiting its new owner at MGM Classic Cars in Addison, Illinois. A real 426 Hemi V8 engine resides under the hood, they tell us. The 727 automatic transmission can handle the torque, and Ridler wheels and upgraded tires put all that power to the ground. They say the dual exhaust sounds amazing. The black interior has been redone. It has Wilwood power disc brakes. Looking through the photos you will have to admit … this would be a fun car to own.

Deals of the Day
1974 Chevy Nova
This is a lotta’ car for the money. A 1974 Chevy Nova SS Tribute was listed for sale here this week. It is finished in a vibrant red exterior paint with black SS-style hood and trunk striping. The front valance has blacked-out grille and SS emblems. It is being offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. It is upgraded with mechanical components to make a more balanced driving experience, but still retains the classic muscle car look and stance. The 1974’s were the final year of the third-generation of Novas before they were redesigned, the final high-compression muscle cars of that era. This one not only has a V8 engine, but comes with an automatic transmission with B&M Quicksilver floor shifter, Edelbrock AVS carburetor and 15-inch Cragar S/S chrome wheels. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $19,950. Now that is an affordable muscle car!
1967 Mustang Convertible
It is relatively unheard of to find a classic Mustang convertible for under $30,000 these days. At least not one as nice as this. Beverly Hills Car Club once again has listed an extremely desirable collector car for a deep discounted price. The black exterior paint emphasizes the long hood and clean design of this 1967 Mustang Convertible with a C-Code V8 engine. It has an automatic transmission, full length center console, bucket seats with rear bench seat, and 17-inch multi-spoke wheels. The 1967 model year is especially significant, marking the first major redesign of the Mustang with a wider body to accommodate larger engines and improved performance. Beverly Hills Car Club tells us it is a running and driving example. But it will need some TLC to make it road worthy again. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The price reflects the opportunity to own a classic Mustang convertible at a good price point. You can have it inspected before you buy.
1965 Sunbeam Alpine Roadster
A Glen Green Sunbeam Alpine Roadster was listed for sale this week at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. These cars were great for weekend cruising, but we used to see them at the track as well. They were fast, with the 1.7-liter four cylinder capable of 0-60 mph in under 13 seconds. This 1965 Sunbeam Alpine Roadster has the iconic Sunbeam design with the prominent tailfins. This one would be considered driver quality, not a show piece. The interior is designed as a British sports car should be with driver focused equipement and a wood trim steering wheel. Under the hood you will find a 1725 cc 4-cylinder engine rated at 99 horsepower and fueled by way of two SU carburetors, then mated to a 4-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear axle and 3.70 gears. Note the factory headers. They say it runs out nice on a test track. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $19,900.
1984 Fiero Indy Pace Car
When Pontiac came out with the Fiero sports car in 1984, they made sure that this little two-seater sports car would pace the Indinapolis 500 Mile race that year. The 1984 Pontiac Fiero Indy Pace Car edition became the first mid-engine car to pace the 500-mile race since a Stoddard-Dayton paced it in 1914, 70 years later. Pontiac made 2,000 Fiero Pace Car replicas to honor the event. They were all white with grey lower body sections and a grey and red interior. They were also outfitted with the ’85 GT aero body and new front fascia, making them truly unique for ’84. This rare Fiero Indy Pace Car is being offered for sale by Cruisin Classics out of Ohio. They say it comes with a 4-speed and currently has only 15,175 actual miles. Oh, yes, it was born to be collectible. They say it is in driver quality condition, with a pop-up removable glass sunroof with storage under the hood. The actual Pace Cars for the Indianpolis 500 had a periscope style air intake which was located over the roof. This replica has a reproduction of that air intake. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. The price is $16,995. Now that is a collector car you can afford.
1971 Jensen Interceptor MK II
Beverly Hills Car Club has come up with yet another great price on a 1971 Jensen Interceptor Mk II classic sports car. It is a rare fastback model. The British import Mark II is a Vignale-designed fastback version with a wraparound glass tailgate. It is equipped with an automatic transmission, powerful V8 engine, four-wheel disc brakes, Jaeger instrumentation and 15-inch Rostyle wheels. You will note that it features air conditioning, front bucket seats, rear 2+2 seating, a full length console and door pockets. This rarely seen fastback edition designed by Vignale was actually coachbuilt in Italy and then shipped to Great Britain for final assembly. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $19,950.
2002 Mazda Miata
A private party seller from Bangor, Maine is offering his Blazing Yellow Mica 2002 Mazda Miata Special Edition for sale this week. This is a 6-speed with a black leather interior in what he describes as “excellent condition.” There are dealer service records to prove it. He says it has been well maintaine and driven just an average of 4,100 miles a year. It has recently benefitted from a new timing belt kit, neutral safety solenoid, backup light switch, and a four-wheel alignment. He says that all the recommended maintenance was performed by a Mazda dealer. He says the alloy wheels are wrapped in new tires, and the car has recently undergone the new state inspection which includes checking the brakes, exhaust, lights, steering and a 100-point inspection. There are power options as well as an AM/FM CD 200-watt Bose sound system. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $12,900.
1986 Camaro RS Z28
Here is just what the Millenial collector has been looking for. It is a red 1986 Camaro RS Z28 With Tune Port Injection on a 305 ci V8 engine. The optional equipment includes T-Tops. It is being offered for sale by HaggleMe, an internet broker that helps internet challenged Baby Boomers sell their cars. This one might be especially collectible for the Millenials who remember the sports car they grew up with. They say the interior and engine compartment are in need of a cleanup, and the ad copy states that there is no rust at all on this car. What is new on the car? They say it has new tires, brakes, exhaust and air conditioning. How collectible will these cars be in the future? Ask a Millenial. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $19,500.

Sold Thru Cars On Line
Here is a comment from a happy seller who was nice enough to tell us about his experience advertising on the Cars On Line website.

About a week ago a New Jersey collector sent in his advertisement through regular mail and we scanned his photos and put his ad online. Already this week he filled out our online SOLD form to notify us that he had SOLD his 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS through his Cars-On-Line ad. “Excellent service … and you did a great job scanning my photos,” he told us. It’s funny. It took longer for the Post Office to deliver that ad to our office than it took for him to sell the car.
