Fast Cadillac Eldorado
When the Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was selected to set the pace for the 1973 Indianapolis 500 Championship Race, the engineers at Cadillac Motor Division knew they had some work to do. Their job was to prepare the massive 5,100-pound Eldorado to safely maintain speeds of over 125 miles per hour while leading 33 Indy cars around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. In addition to the two Cadillac pace cars which would actually pace the race, they also prepared 12 high-speed celebrity escort cars for the parade laps prior to the race. These 12 cars had high performance 500 ci V8 engines which tested out at over 400 horsepower, and had special exhaust systems, and hood pins and rocker panel moldings that were screwed in to the body. Two of the celebrity cars were fitted with a refrigerated front center console for storing film which had to be kept cool. Festival Car # 22 was one of the two.
The 1973 Cadillac Eldorado Indy Pace Car Convertible which was designated Festival Car # 22 was just posted for sale this week in the Cars-On-Line.com Cadillac Section online. It is being offered for sale by Orlando Classic Cars, a member of our Dealer Network. It is one of only a few of those 12 high-speed Pace Cars known to still exist. This car will be sold at the Mecum Indy Auction on May 14, 2026. Orlando Classic Cars tells us it comes with an incredible amount of documentation and race related memorabilia. The previous owner of this car actually wrote a book on the 1973 Cadillac Eldorado Pace Cars. They say the underside of the trunk features 19 prominent signatures from individuals involved with the 1973 race and Cadillac engineers who prepped these cars. The signatures include Gordon Johncock, the driver who won the 1973 Indianapolis 500, Johnny Rutherford, the driver who won the pole position that year and Pace Car driver Jim Rathman.
The ’72 Cadillac Eldorado was the first front-wheel-drive car to pace the Indianapolis 500 in the post-war era. (In 1930 a front-wheel-drive Cord was the Pace Car.) To make the horsepower for the race, the speedway cars were given Rochester four-barrel carburetors, high compression pistons, a forged steel crank and dual exhaust. Including the 12 parade cars, there were about 50 Festival Cars produced by Cadillac for the event. Most were equipped with stock equipment. However, Cadillac did not produce Pace Car replicas to distribute to their dealerships that year. Only those few Festival cars were produced, making the ’73 Eldorado Pace Cars highly sought after today.

Classic Car News This Week

2026 Corvette ZR1X Indy Pace Car
Dangerously fast, the 2026 Corvette ZR1X Indy Pace Car was designed to handle the high banked oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is now the quickest production car made in America and a true hypercar. Beautifully designed, this year’s Corvette Indy Pace Car celebrates America’s semi-quentennial 250th Anniversary with its red, white and blue colors. Driving the pace car in the ceremonial parade this year will be Indiana Universitiy’s Head Football Coach, Curt Cignetti, in honor of the universitiy’s undefeated National Championship. The Corvette will be a lot to handle boosting 1,250 horsepower across all four wheels. The 186 horsepower electric motor on the front axle combines with the 5.5L Twin Turbo V8. The Pace Car has a Carbon Aero package including dive planes on the front bumper, underbody aero strakes and the rear wing, which they say creates over 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. It will handle speeds of up to 233 miles per hour on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. This is the 23rd time that a Corvette has paced the Indianapolis 500-mile race. You will find out more about this year’s Indianapolis 500 by viewing Cars-On-Line.com’s Car Show Calendar for May.

1941 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible
These cars are so very rare and popular among collectors. This is a 1941 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible, a true pre-war classic that has just been listed by a seller from Mississippi. It is on consignment with Classic Car Deals, a Michigan broker that sells cars for internet challenged Baby Boomers. You will want to know that this one has the V12 292 ci Flathead producing a factory rated 130 horsepower. These V12 Flatheads were smooth running powerful engines, perfect for the sporty luxury of this Zephyr convertible. It has a 3-speed manual transmission on the column. They say the mileage shown is 25,406, but it is not verified mileage. The Zephyr roadsters were known for their Art Deco styling with a distinctive horizontal grille and wide fenders. This one is seen here in Andover Green finish with green leather interior. They say it is a standout at local shows, cruises or could make a statement in a private collection.

LS6 454 Chevelle SS
A Cranberry Red 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454/450 hp monster block Super Sport was just listed for sale by Ideal Classic Cars in Venice, Florida. They say it has the ZL2 Cowl Induction hood, numbers matching stamped block, “512” block casting, and Winters aluminum intake manifold. Of course, it has the Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt rear axle. In addition it has power brakes and power steering with updated air conditioning and tilt steering column. Inside you will find a Hurst shifter, U14 gauge package, red vinyl interior with bucket seats and a center console. It has black D88 Sport Stripes and Magnum 500 SS wheels. See 55 detailed photos on the ad page at the link above. As advertised back in the day, the big block motor produced 450 brake horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 500 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm. That was as good as it got for performance numbers in the muscle car era. The GM factory rating of 450 horsepower comes thanks to an 11.25:1 compression ratio, solid lifter camshaft and big port heads.

1958 Chevrolet Impala Custom
Although this 1958 Chevrolet Impala 2-Door Hardtop still has all of its classic look and appeal, you will find it was restored with a strong 5.7 liter fuel injected V8 under the hood. It even has the Continental kit and fender skirts for that classic Impala look. Click the video window above. Watch as Mark inspects the body and interior. Then take it for a test drive. Pretty tight ride. No squeaks or rattles as it goes down the road. And it handles the road nicely. And, man, does it get up and go!

We’ve got a little something different this week in the low miles category. This is a retro 2003 Indian Spirit retaining the classic Indian look and feel. It is being offered for sale this week at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. They say this bike still has only 36 actual and verified miles. It is a one-owner which has been pampered all its life, stored and serviced inside a climate controlled facility. The Jet Black bike shows off its iconic Indian graphics and pipes that reflect like a mirror. Belying the classic look, the speedometer has a digital readout and indicator lights. The 88 ci S&S Super Stock V-Twin engine puts out 75 horsepower fed by a Mikuni carburetor. The rear wheel is belt driven through a 5-speed transmission.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1962 Pontiac Bonneville
You say you want a project to restore? Well, here is an easy one by most measures. A Nebraska man has this 1962 Pontiac Bonneville 2-Door Hardtop for sale. He has it disassembled for paint and body work, but says he has all the trim and other parts which were removed. He says all of the assembly pieces are in good shape. It just needs you to do the work. He says the car currently runs, drives and stops like it should with a fresh rebuilt 389 4-barrel engine and automatic transmission. He calls it a solid project car. This is the kind of project you should turn a profit on.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

1963 Dodge D100 Pickup, Haggle Me

1934 Ford Vicky
A striking 1934 Ford Vicky street rod was recently listed for sale by a private party seller from Charlottesville, Virginia. The TCI frame was stretched 5 inches to fit a Gen II Viper V-10 crate motor and create an exceptional ride. It started with a Downs fiberglass body with steel hood and sides. With a Heidt’s front end and Tremec 6-speed transmission, this is a very special build. It has a Currie polished center section (see photo) with custom polished stainless exhaust and four polished custom tips. The interior is show quality. This car needs nothing, says the private party seller. The custom build is a one of one, he notes. It has Vintage air and heat, GPS speedometer, stainless fuel tank with Aeromotive pumpand ET Fueler wheels. He says it is show ready has no issues. He was originally asking $65,000 for the rod. But just this week he dropped the price to $60,000.

Muscle Car Clones
Trans Am Super Duty Tribute
Yes, this Buccaneer Red 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am indeed does have the 455 ci V8, but it is not the SD-455 as the callout on the hood scoop would indicate. This classic Pony car is complete with a big Firebird decal on the hood, the shaker hood scoop, and the desirable big block engine. The unique honeycomb wheels are also highly desirable, and the lower front spoiler, rear spoiler, fender vents, and quarter-panel ground-effects are what make people fall in love with these Trans Ams. The dashboard and gauges look to be stock and authentic. It is equipped with a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Oh, yes … and it sounds like the signature Trans Am with dual exhaust and X-pipe with aftermarket mufflers.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

Deals of the Day
1965 Dodge Custom 880 Convt
Mopar fans will get a kick out of this 1965 Dodge Custom 880 Convertible with its custom paint and big block power. It is being sold at Mike Nichols’ Classic & Collectible Cars of Las Vegas this week. It has a factory 383 4-barrel with an automatic transmission, power steering, power drum brakes, power convertible top, AM Astrophonic Deluxe radio and a Plum Crazy Purple matte wrap finish. You can request over a hundred photos with their ad package, or have it inspected before you buy. They say it has a solid, rust-free body. And those 20” Ridler wheels will grip the road. They say it runs and drives “excellent.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $19,500.
2004 Corvette Z06
A Corvette Yellow 2004 Corvette Z06 Coupe is being offered for sale at MGM Classic Cars in Addison, Illinois. It is priced attractively for the right buyer. With only 60,500 original miles, they say it has documented service records and a custom stereo system. It also has a clean Carfax with a clear Florida title, according to MGM Classics. It has the LS6 V8 engine which they say runs great. It also has a black leather interior that you can see in the photos. For the sports car purist, this one has a 6-speed manual transmission. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. That is the Z06 sound all right. Tom says the car is really super clean and the body and paint shows real well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is only $27,994.
1965 Chevrolet Nova SS
Okay, this one may be a bit of a project. But you can’t touch these Nova Super Sports at this price. So take a look at this 1965 Chevrolet Nova SS just posted by HaggleMe, an internet broker selling this car for its client. This rare Nova II Super Sport has a 327 ci V8 engine and a factory 4-speed, according to the ad copy. You can see from the photos that the body is rough. It would be good to have a pre-purchase inspection done on this one to find out if it is solid and worthy of a restoration. You want to know if that engine runs, and how much of the interior do you have to hunt for in swap meets. It looks as though you would have to upgrade all the electricals. The headliner needs work. Of course, it needs paint. Beyond that, you will want to know if it can be documented to be a real SS. However, because of the price, it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $18,900.
1966 Chrysler Town & Country
Classic station wagons have been a hot trend in the collector car hobby for decades. But it is getting harder and harder to find good solid and straight wagons anymore. Here is a 1966 Chrysler Town & Country 9-Passenger Wagon that was just listed for sale by a private party owner from Minnesota. He says it is all original. The seller says it has a “near mint red interior” and “ALL ORIGINAL PAINT.” (Excuse the emphasis.) With just 60,000 actual miles, it has recently been purchased out of the original owner’s estate. It comes with original title and paperwork. Under the hood is a 383 4-barrel, even though the engine compartment is not detailed. It did not come with air conditioning, but it did have an automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. The issues: rear window does not work, and the dash has three cracks. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. The asking price is $10,900.
1958 Edsel “Sedan Delivery”
It’s true that Edsel never got around to making a Sedan Delivery, but if they had it would probably have looked a lot like this. Here is a 1958 Edsel Sedan Delivery reimagined by an enterprising and knowedgeable collector. A private party seller from Minnesota calls it a “one of none,” if you will allow us a little play on words. What started life as a ’57 Ford Sedan Delivery has been turned into a sedan delviery with ’58 Edsel Pacer parts used in the build. That is a ’62 Thunderbird interior, white the dash and heater are from the Edsel. The seller says he has a list of every part sourced in the build. The engine, he was told, is a ’62 406 big block with a Tripower from that era. It even has power steering. The seller says it runs and drives. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. You can buy it for $14,500.
1985 Merkur XR4Ti Coupe
Although extremely popular in Germany, the Merkur XR4Ti never sold well here in the U.S. That is because they were tuned down here in the U.S. whereas they were Autobahn terrors in Europe. This 1985 Merkur XR4Ti Coupe is a rare find now, having been discontinued in 1989. Only 30,000 cars were ever sold here in the U.S. from 1984 through 1989. This one is especially interesting because it has a swapped twin turbocharged 5.0 liter pushrod V8 engine which was just installed in 2022. The install includes a modified cooling system with electric fan and a Holley Terminator-X engine management system. You will notice that the front facia has also been modified, now sporting a Sierra Cosworth front grille and headlights. It still has the distinctive rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips. A close inspection may reveal some chips and road rash. But it is so unique that it will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $16,900.
1975 Jeep Cherokee
This 1975 Jeep Cherokee 4-Wheel Drive sport utility vehicle is a little beat up inside, but still looks pretty good in the photos from the exterior. They call the color Apple Green and it has a white top and graphics. It is one of those vehicles that you should have inspected before you buy just to get a read on its condition class. It is being sold by Classic Car Deals, an internet broker selling the classic SUV for a their client in the state of Washington. They report it to be a vintage 4X4 that is ready to enjoy and drive now, or built into a restomod later. With solid bones, it came from the factory with power steering and power brakes. They say it “runs and drives great” with solid floors. These early Cherokees are getting harder to find. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $16,895.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
| 1969 Buick Riviera | $12,495 | South Carolina |
| 1964 Ford Fairlane | $16,500 | Indiana |
