Born to Race
Early on in the “muscle car wars” Chrysler dropped the “A bomb,” the A-body car that is still considered to be the world’s fastest muscle car, the 1968 Hurst Hemi Barracuda. A limited number of factory Barracudas were sent to Hurst-Campbell (later known as Hurst Performance) to prep them for drag racing. To compete with the Yenko Chevrolets and the Shelby Fords, Chrysler Corporation put their biggest engine in their smallest cars, the A-body Dodge Dart and Plymouth Barracuda. The result was a fiberglass front Super Stock lightweight racer that could do the quarter-mile in 10’s off the showroom floor (with a little tuning.) The Dodge Hemi Darts were coded LO23 and the Plymouth Hemi Barracudas were BO29.
One of those incredibly rare cars has shown up in the COL Race Car Section today. It is a 1968 Plymouth Hurst Barracuda, a real BO29 car, that has a phenomenal racing history. In fact, the last time it ran at the Indy Nationals it ET’d at 8:62 at 155 mph. The private party seller says it is all dressed up and ready to race again under a new livery. He says it has a pro built chassis and sweet Chameleon paint. It has the Ray Barton built engine and Pro Trans transmission, but it still looks original with mostly original parts. Even the glass is still original, says the owner.
From 1968 through 1970, every U.S. Nationals was won by a team campaigning a 1968 Plymouth Hurst Barracuda. Even as late as 1994 Don McCullum took the Stock Automatic title in his 1968 Barracuda. For those who have followed the Indy Nationals for the past 30 years, this particular 1968 Hurst Barracuda BO29 car will stand out in your memory. You can scan the internet for stories of how it campaigned.
Who will be the next to run this car in the Sox & Martin Hemi Challenge? Not too many cars will make you part of racing history. This one can.

GAA Auction Results
We hope you got a chance to join our Facebook page on Saturday to discuss the GAA Classic Spring Auction and watch with us on YouTube. That was fun! This Wimbeldon White 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible sold for $200,000 on Saturday. If you remember, it was one of only 518 GT500KR convertibles ever built. It was a show winning example. There were a lot of great muscle cars in the sale. Also, a 1929 Packard 645 Deluxe Eight Dietrich Convertible sold for $210,000. And a Daytona Yellow 1969 Camaro Z/28 RS brought $122,000. Here is a link to some of the top cars we talked about during the sale. (You have to be logged in to Facebook to use this link.) Their next auction will be their summer sale, July 23-25, 2026. Watch for our promos in the next few months.
This Weeks Featured Stories
1970 Chevelle SS LS6
Back in the day you could order this monster big block Chevelle from the factory by just walking into a Chevrolet dealership. This Astro Blue 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 was listed only two days ago. It is being offered for sale at Precious Metals Classic Car Sales in Elkhart, Indiana. They say the factory 454/450 horsepower LS6 engine is original to the car, verified through VIN derivative stamping and supported by expert evaluation. It has the Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission torquing the 12-bolt Positraction rear axle. They say the original column shift and bench seat interior has been replaced with bucket seats and a console. And it comes fully documented with a build sheet, ownership and title history, Jerry MacNeish certification, Mike Kaiser certification and VCCA judging sheets. Click here to watch a detailed walk-around video.
All-American “Square Body”
It is amazing how “square body” pickup trucks have become in the mainstream of collectibility for younger generations of buyers. 1980s-era “square body” pickup trucks matter so much to Gen X collectors because they sit right at the intersection of memory, identity, and practicality. For many Gen Xers, these trucks were the vehicles they grew up riding in, learning to drive, working on with parents or grandparents, or remember seeing parked in driveways, on farms, and at job sites throughout their childhood. Their boxy styling, simple mechanics, and durable, no-nonsense design reflect an era before trucks became overly refined or technology-heavy. Here is a 1985 Chevrolet K10 Silverado 4X4 which was just listed for sale at Streetside Classics in the Atlanta area. Is this cool, or what? Dressed in an ultra sharp paint scheme, it now carries the extra pull of emotions and cultural status which appeal to the generations that came after the Baby Boomers. To Gen-X collectors, square body trucks are more than old pickups—they are rolling reminders of youth, self-reliance, and a distinctly American automotive era.
Auctions
Mark your calendars for the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Flea Market and Auction next week in historic Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It is one of the oldest and most respected collector car events in the country. What we like about this great car show is the Spring Carlisle Auction at the Expo Center across from the fairgrounds. This year the auction will be held on April 23-24, 2026. They have some of their top auction inventory promoted on our website. Here are a few of the vehicles we noticed will be offered for sale to the highest bidder next week.
1968 Dodge Charger
A “Coke bottle” designed 1968 Dodge Charger will be offered in the upcoming Spring Carlisle Collector Car Auction in Carlisle, Pennsylvania next week. The Carlisle Auction representatives tell us it was meticulously restored to its original specifications with attention to detail. “No expense has been spared,” they write in their description of the legendary Mopar muscle car. They note that the Magnum big block engine is built to 425 horsepower. Although there is no mention of documentation, it has R/T badging throughout. The Pistol Grip 4-speed can be seen in the photos. It has a woodgrained steering wheel and a clean interior. You might want to contact Carlisle for more information on this one. Don’t miss your chance to own a Charger in your lifetime. It will be Lot # 133 in the sale.
1928 Chrysler Convertible
Among the vintage masterpieces in the show this one stands out. The Carlisle people have designated it one of their Showcase Cars. This is a 1928 Chrysler Series 62 Convertible, a car that sports car minded young buyers would have admired in its day. It has a Flathead straight six cylinder engine with a three-speed transmission. Out back is a rumble seat. You can see the photo of the wood spoke wheels and wide white-wall tires. Wow! What a nice presentation! The matching side curtains and felts come with the car. The Carlisle people tell us it starts right up, rides and drives exceptionally well. Just imagine yourself in the Memorial Day parade in your home town. What an impression you’d make. They say it has spent most of its life in a museum. You would rate this a “nice older restoration.” It will be Lot # 187.1 in the sale.
1965 Shelby Cobra
As always, there will be several classic Shelby Cobra reproductions in the sale here in Carlisle. This 1965 Shelby Cobra, a version of the early AC Cobra’s, is one of the Showcase Cars for the sale. It was factory built by Classic Roadster, a well respected Cobra builder. It has “all new parts” in the build, no donor car parts used at all. See the performance crate 302 stroker motor in the photos. A race ready Edelbrock carburetor feeds the beast. It has a competition Ford camshaft, roller rockers, performance radiator with triple cooling fans and Edelbrock high performance parts. The headers were just re-installed by professionals. They say it was freshly tuned for the sale, and inspected by Classic Automotive Services in York, Pennsylvania. It will cross the auction floor as Lot # 505.1. Look for it in the sale.

1974 VW Dune Buggy
Dave from Showdown Auto in Fraser, Michigan takes us through a detailed inspection of his 1974 Boss Bug Dunebuggy. This is a special build with some metalflake in the paint. More than just a dunebuggy, this one is a showpiece with beautiful detailing in the engine and exhaust. Sometimes we recommend to our advertisers that they should use video in their ads. The reason is that you can’t show in photos alone what you can display in video. And the sound. That’s what is important. Click the video window above to see what we mean. A short video is better than a thousand words.

Price Reduced
1939 Chevrolet Master
An Illinois collector just dropped his price by a big percentage this week. He originally listed his 1939 Chevrolet Master Coupe for sale when collector car prices had been spiking. The street rod has a 4.3 liter V6 engine, and a 350 automatic transmission, giving it the power of a V8 in some sense. But it remains very fuel efficient. It has the requisite Mustang II suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes and rack & pinion steering. With a Lokar shifter and aluminum radiator, you know this rod was built right. When he listed the car he was asking $42,000. We all know that in the past two years the air has come out of the market. So he just dropped the price to $17,000 for a quick sale. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Your gain!
Here are more vehicles with price cuts this week:
| Vehicle For Sale | Original Price | Reduced To |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 Corvette Z06 Convertible | $115,000 | $93,500 |
| 1937 Plymouth P3 | $55,000 | $45,000 |

Deals of the Day
1977 Corvette Coupe
Corvettes are the Gold Standard of the collector car industry in this country. They always hold their value, it seems. So here is a 1977 Corvette Coupe with T-Tops. It is being offered for sale by Classic Car Deals out of Michigan. They tell us it is numbers matching with a 350 small block Corvette engine which was just freshened with a nice hydraulic cam added. The transmission is a Turbo 400 automatic, and it has power steering, power brakes, tilt-telescopic steering wheel and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo with “nice speakers.” They say the interior is in good shape. There is 78k on the odometer. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $13,500.

1949 Studebaker Champion
A driver quality 1949 Studebaker Champion was listed for sale this week at a very affordable price point. What will impress you about this classic Studebaker is how clean it is inside, in the engine bay and underneath. It is being offered for sale by HaggleMe, an internet broker that specializes in helping us Baby Boomers market our vintage vehicles on the internet. They say the Regal Deluxe trim means extra chrome accents and nicer interior features than lower end models back in the day. It has a 169.6 ci L-head six cylinder engine and a 3-speed manual transmission. This model was known for its fuel efficiency and affordability. After the war, this was one of the first truly new designs on the new car market. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $15,500.
1972 Mustang Coupe
A private party seller from Texas just listed his 1972 Mustang Coupe for sale this week. He notes that you don’t see these ‘72’s in this kind of shape very often anymore. It has a built 351 Windsor with a 3-speed manual transmission. He says the body is straight and rust free, a Texas car with a paint job that was done about 15 years ago and has always been garaged since the repaint. Added were the Wilwood disc brakes all the way around; plus headers with dual exhaust that’s quiet till you open the 4 barrel Edelbrock carb sitting on an Edelbrock intake. The front suspension was also redone. With an original interior (new carpets), it still looks new, says the seller. The older stereo does come with MP3 and Bluetooth. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday next week. The asking price is $18,000.
1961 Oldsmobile 88
A beautiful 1961 Oldsmobile 88 Bubble Top was just listed by Classic Car Deals, an internet broker. The car is located in California. Not only does it have timeless classic custom styling, but it has a great presence. They tell us it runs very well, turns heads and will display well at your local shows. It has the 394 V8 engine with a dress up kit, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and wide whitewall tires. The original interior will show some wear but still presents well. This was an older custom build, but it still looks great. The glass, chrome and stainless are described as “Excellent.” It is a great example of the Bubble Top design, and it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. They are asking $19,495.
2001 Porsche Boxster
If you are looking for a bargain priced little two-seater sports car, Sovereign Auto Group out of Michigan has a couple for sale at great price points. The manual convertible top has a glass rear window and windblocker. The peppy 4 cylinder engine is rated at 155 horsepower. This is a rear-wheel-drive sports car that lets you feel the road with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It has 4-wheel disc brakes and all-wheel ABS. The sports car ride is enhanced with progressive multi-link rear suspension w/coil overs, and front and rear sway bars. The 16” wheels are silver aluminum alloy. It has stereo and Bluetooth.
