Historic Race Car
In the annals of automotive history, there are not many cars more significant than the one we discovered in our New Listings this week. This 1966 Ford GT40 Mark II Factory Lightweight is one of only three actual factory Lightweight examples known to have been produced. It was built at Shelby American but prepped for racing by Alan Mann, manager of the Shelby Team that won the 24 Hours of Lemans. He replaced the fiberglass roof with aluminum and used a lightweight thin-gauge steel for the chassis. The resulting car weighed only 2,160 pounds. These cars are extremely valuable to collectors today.
The 1966 Ford GT40 Mark II Factory Lightweight is being offered for sale this week at Legendary Motorcar Company, one of the world’s premier collector car dealerships. In a video presentation on this car, they say it is “the most original MKII GT40 on the planet!” That is amazing since it also comes with a rich racing history. It was the spare car for the 1966 win at Lemans. Click here to view the inspection video done at Legendary Motorcar Company by LMC owner Peter Klutt. He notes that the gearbox and oil cooler are still the original equipment. The 427 engine and chassis are also original to the car.
This MKII GT40 is chassis XGT-3. It is one of only nine surviving Mk II GT40s, one of just three built with a factory lightweight chassis, and recognized by marque historian Ronnie Spain as the most original Mk II in existence. Working alongside Holman-Moody, Alan Mann Racing, and Shelby American, the team developed the new 427 cu in V-8-powered Mk II, refining the aerodynamics, cooling, and reliability that would carry Ford to its historic 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans in 1966. Spain said this car has an adjustable suspension, a feature distinctive to the lightweight chassis cars.
Legendary Motorcar Company says this is the purest surviving example of an MKII Lightweight … unrestored, uncompromised and unequalled.

Famous Ferrari To Sell
RM Sotheby’s is set to sell one of the most legendary Ferraris of all time. At their Paris auction on January 28 of this month, a long-wheelbase Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta will be offered for sale. This 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta by Scaglietti won the Tour de France in 1956. It was owned and raced by racing icon, the Marquis Alfonso de Portago, one of the all-time legends of racing in Europe. Chassis number 0557 GT is the seventh of only nine Scaglietti built first series competition Berlinettas. It is said that this car won every race it was entered in. 1966 Shelby Cobra S/C 427
When Carroll Shelby decided to put the 427 in his little Shelby Cobras for homologation in 1966 he expected to beat Ferrari in the FIA Championships. But some say Carroll Shelby was too focused on winning with the GT40’s at Lemans. Subsequently, Shelby American was not able to produce the 100 Cobra 427’s they would need to sell to the public for homologation for FIA competition. The unsold 427 Cobras were converted to Semi-Competition or S/C Cobras as they were sold to private race teams. It was the most potent street version car you could buy. Only 29 S/C 427 Cobras were produced. They were full race cars detuned to make them acceptable for the street. Legendary Motorcar Company just posted an original 1966 Shelby Cobra S/C 427 for sale. They say this factory Saphhire Bue S/C 427 Cobra is one of the purest and most original examples in existence. It was owned by noted collectors, Peter Briggs and Chip Connor. It comes heavily documented with an original sales invoice, complete owner history, and has been entered in the SAAC Cobra Registry. Click here to watch an exciting action video of the S/C 427 done by Legendary Motorcar.
Yenko Camaro ZL1
Whether in drag racing or on road racing courses, the old adage is “lighter is better.” Racers are always looking for that edge that will give them an advantage. Now we all know that Don Yenko fanagled GM to produce the 427 COPO Camaros that he used to convert to Yenko Camaros. But of all the Yenko Camaros produced the most potent were the ones he ordered with ZL1 427 lightweight aluminum engines. Rated at over 450 horsepower, the weight reduction on these ZL1 Yenkos created superior acceleration. This week, Verrillo Motor Car Co. out of Clifton Park, New York, listed an original 1969 Yenko Camaro equipped with the ZL1 big block engine and finished in the iconic Lemans Blue exterior. They tell us a complete “no-expense spared” restoration was completed in 2022 by Verrillo. It was restored to an extraordinarily authentic and detailed specification. Only 69 ZL1 engines were produced in 1969, making this Yenko Camaro so rare that it is a “once in a lifetime opportunity” for the right collector.
Corvette L88 Coupe
Another incredible find is being offered by Verrillo Motor Car Co. in New York. Joe Verrillo knows how to find some of the rarest Corvette muscle cars available. Here is a prime example. He just listed this 1969 Corvette L88 Coupe for sale. From the descriptions we find out it still has just 22,000 original miles. It comes heavily documented. In fact, you can see a Corvette order form, Protect-O-Plate warranty card, Bloomington Gold Survivor certificate, Top Flight Awards and more in the ad photos. The Monza Red ’69 Corvette L88 also has been inspected by the Classic Car Affirmation Service, LLC, and was certified by Al Gremming, confirming that the engine pad and cylinder case were verified. They confirmed the numbers. This is an L88 427 ci V8 producing 430 horsepower. The console storage cover has been signed by Zora Duntov.

A one-of-a-kind 1999 Saleen Mustang Sportster is a car that Millenials will love. Gen Z is into collectible Mustangs such as this Saleen sportster. This one is very special, though. The seller calls them “car show miles.” He says it took second place in the judging at the Santa Fe Show. Everything on this one is original except for new tires and a battery. 2006 Cadillac XLR Convertible
Cadillac, the luxury car company, tried their hand at the sports car market again in the early 2000’s with an innovative car they called the XLR. The Cadillac XLR shared the same chassis as the Corvette but offered luxury features and was an elegant sports roadster. This 2006 Cadillac XLR Convertible was just listed by Rock Solid Motorsports in Indiana. It is an excellent example in factory Red Jewel Tintcoat metallic paint and leather interior. It is powered by a 320 horsepower 4.6 Liter Northstar V8 engine and transfers power via a 5-speed automatic transmission. Their asking price is only $16,995.
1994 Chevrolet Suburban
Since it is so hard to find a late model used Chevy Suburban for sale these days, a very clean older model would be a good substitute. Here is a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban Silverado 1500 which has been posted for sale at 4-Wheel Classics in Holland, Michigan. They tell us it is a one-owner vehicle that was sourced from the state of Oregon. The vehicle was well maintained and comes with a log book of the maintenance. 2007 Chrysler Crossfire Convertible
Chrysler’s Crossfire, a car designed by Daimler with Mercedes-Benz quality engineering, was too far ahead of its time. Sales never made the Crossfire profitable enough for production to continue. But some of these cars exist today at discount to their value. A good example is this Sapphire Silver Blue metallic 2007 Chrysler Crossfire Convertible just posted for sale at Ideal Classic Cars in Venice, Florida. In the second to the last year of production, this one has the desirable 3.2L V6 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. It has the power folding blue canvas top and an automatic deploying retractable wing, plus dual exhaust. The burled walnut trim interior is elegantly Mercedes-like, and it comes with power heated seats, power mirrors and power windows. 2003 Ford Thunderbird
Remember the excitement when the retro Ford Thunderbirds first came into production in 2002? These cars were coveted by Ford collectors who wanted to relive the good ole days in a two-seater convertible from Ford Motor Company. It reminded them of the first generation T-Birds from the 1950’s. The retro Thunderbirds were produced from 2002 until 2005. Will they someday be big collector items. We think now is the time to pick one up. Here is a red 2003 Ford Thunderbird Convertible being offered for sale through Haggle Me, an internet broker. It comes with a removeable hardtop, and V8 power with the 3.9L DOHC engine and an automatic transmission. The photos show a very clean interior and an undercarriage that looks clean and solid. Of course, only a full pre-purchase inspection can tell you for sure the condition class. But this one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $12,900.
1990 Corvette Convertible
Do you think the C4 Corvettes will ever become hot collector cars? We think they already are in the eyes of the Millenial Gen Z generation. They have begun collecting 1980;s and 1990’s sports cars. What better car to collect than a Corvette, right? The fourth generation Corvettes are relatively cheap to pick up in 2026. But their values might escalate by the turn of the decade. Here is a 1990 Corvette Convertible which comes with a soft top and auxiliary hardtop. It is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics out of their Charlotte, North Carolina store. The Dark Red metallic Corvette has just 75,605 miles, and Streetside tells us that you would be hard-pressed to find a better one. Just look at the photos of the leather interior with analog tch and auxiliary gauges. The L98 5.7Liter V8 uses Tuned Port Injection, generating 245 horsepower. The transmission is a 700R4 4-speed automatic. You will find a Bose stereo system, power seats, power windows and power locks in the cockpit. This beauty will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. Their asking price is $16,995.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
