Last Winged Warrior
Limited production muscle cars create high value for car collectors today. That goes without saying. But some of the most valuable of them all are the Winged Warriors, the Mopars that dominated NASCAR in 1970. The rarest is the Dodge Daytona Charger. Only 503 were produced, just enough to homologate them to race in NASCAR. When Buddy Baker showed up in one for the Talladega 500 in 1970, he broke the 200 mph barrier in test runs, the first time that had ever been done on a NASCAR track. Later that year, Bobby Isaacs set a new world record 201.104 mph, as he won the Daytona 500. Daytonas swept the race, coming in first, second, third and fourth at the Daytona International Raceway. Isaacs also won the NASCAR championship that year. These cars were designed by rocket scientists using a wind tunnel to improve their aerodynamic features, with a special 18-inch nose cone and a 23-inch wing to keep them on the ground on super speedways.
This week, a Canadian collector listed his Bright “Scorch” Red 1969 Dodge Daytona Charger for sale in our Mopar Muscle Car Section online. This 440 4-speed Winged Warrior was originally sold in Canada. In fact, the seller says it was the last Canadian serial number car, and was sold in British Columbia, Canada. It has no options and was purpose built for racing. The seller believes it has only 18,000 miles from new. He states that it has its numbers matching drivetrain, fender tag, build sheet and owners manuals with warranty book. He says it is wearing an older repaint.
The sad reality is that the Dodge Daytona and its Chrysler cousin, the Plymouth Superbird, were just too fast for NASCAR. They were so successful that they were effectively banned from NASCAR competition in 1971 when they restricted the engine sizes on Winged cars.

Classic Car News This Week
Hilton Head Concours
The 23rd Annual Hilton Head Island Concours was held last week, November 2, at the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The classic car show, known for its southern hospitality, relaxed environment and beautiful surroundings, is one of the premier motoring events in the country. The Best in Show Concours d’Elegance winner was a 1932 Rohr Steamliner Sedan (shown here) owned by Al and Mary Stahl of Livonia, Michigan. The Concours de Sport trophy went to Myles Collier of Naples, Florida for his 1926 Bentley SuperSport/Skiff Boattail. Our photo jounalist, Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com, captured all of the top winners on his blog. (Click here to view the story and photos.) The featured marque this year was Cadillac. There were plenty on display along the fairways.
GAA Classic Fall Auction
If you found the link in last week’s newsletter you may have had a chance to watch the live streaming of the GAA Classic Fall Auction last Saturday. Our newsletter readers were very interested in finding out what the Alpine White 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird would sell for. On Saturday afternoon we found out. The winning bid was $425,000. That was not the top sale of the auction, however. About a half-hour before the Superbird, a Frozen White 2021 Ford GT crossed the auction block with only 16 actual miles. (No, that’s not a misprint.) The winning bid was $850,000. A second 2018 Ford GT with the carbon fiber package went for the same price. This GT had only 11 actual miles. It sold for $850,000 at the hammer. We noticed that the Pontiac Trans Am (Bandit edition) muscle cars were getting higher prices than usual. Even first generation Firebird convertibles were trending up. It was an interesting auction to watch, and encouraging to see collector cars holding their value. 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454
If you have been reading this newsletter for the past month, we have had several LS6 454/450 hp Chevelles for sale. Well here is another. This week a Gobe Beige 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 Hardtop was listed for sale by Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta, one of the top collector car dealers in the Atlanta area. The consignor has owned the car for 55 years, and it is one of three Gobi Beige LS6’s in the Registry. There are dozens of detailed photos to pour over on the ad page. You will see the black ball shifter for the M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed manual transmission. The seller says it has G8 Positraction and a new clutch. It has also had fresh brake service in 2025. It was built at the Arlington, Texas plant. A partial build sheet and period literature are included in the sale.
Ford’s Torino Talladega
The over-arching theme of today’s newsletter seems to be the aerodynamic cars of NASCAR at the turn of the decade in 1969 and 1970. What inspired Chrysler to produce some of the Winged Warrior cars you read about previously in this newsletter was Ford’s experimenting with aero cars early in the 1968-69 season. More specifically, they produced the 1969 Ford Torino Talladega, the genius aerodynamic car that won Richard Petty over to the Ford stable for the 1969 NASCAR season. This week, just such a car in Presidential Blue finish was listed for sale by Garage Kept Classics, a classic car dealer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It has the 428 Cobra Jet V8 big block motor and a C6 automatic transmission. It is one of only 750 such aero cars produced by Ford to homologate the Torino for NASCAR competition. They won 29 NASCAR races in 1969 and 1970, inspiring Chrysler to come up with the Daytona Charger and Superbird. It was one of Ford’s best ideas, and a true NASCAR legend.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1981 Corvette Coupe
A one-owner 1981 Corvette Coupe was listed for sale this week by WeBe Autos. The maroon mirrored T-Top coupe is said to have only 12k original miles. What’s more, it comes loaded with factory options, i.e. electric sport mirros, power door locks and power windows, power antenna and power driver’s seat. They describe the interior as being “absolutely gorgeous and original.” It has an original 350 small block engine and automatic transmission. The low miles original is being offered for sale at a very low price point for a car that has so much collector potential.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
2004 Corvette Z06 Lemans Edition, North Shore Classics, IL, 8k original miles

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1958 Ford Fairlane Coupe
Beverly Hills Car Club deals in lots of collector cars that have been “lost in storage” over the years, garage finds, if you will. Here is a great example. This 1958 Ford Fairlane Coupe looks great in the photos. A rare two-door sedan, it is equipped with an automatic transmission, V8 engine, carburetor, dual exhaust outlets, steel wheels with Ford hubcaps and white-wall tires. It even has a retro styled stereo installed. However, it sadly is not currently running. The car actually rolled off the assembly line in Long Beach, California. How much would it take to get it back on the road? A pre-purchase inspection would tell you alot. For right now the asking price is a bargain.

1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe
When a Canadian Mopar collector listed his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe for sale he was originally asking $85,000. This was a numbers matching Gran Coupe with a 383 big block engine, one of only 953 built that year. The EB7 Jamaica Blue car has all original body panels and original leather interior. It has been maintained with fresh service, and the seller says it is a “turn key car.” What is significant about this ad is that just this week the seller dropped his price to $62,500. Wow! Now that’s where it really gets interesting.

Deals of the Day
1962 Ford Galaxie Lowrider
Many of our readers do not know that the Cars-On-Line.com Lowrider Section is one of the most popular lists on our website. This week a 1962 Ford Galaxie Lowrider was added to that list as it was posted for sale by Classic Car Deals, an internet broker that helps Baby Boomers list their cars on the world wide web. They tell us this Galaxie is a sharp, well-sorted out restoration which has been lowered 3 inches and mechnically refreshed. They describe it as a “great driver-quality example that blends vintage style with solid performance and updated components. It has the 352 ci V8 (“runs strong”), and a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission which was professionally built by a shop in Phoenix. It has newer quarters, rockers and inner fenders. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday this weekend. Their asking price is only $13,495. Hurry!
1950 Studebaker Champion
Studebaker ads get lots of page views from prospective buyers on the internet. You would be surprised at how many people are watching Studebaker ads every day. So this week a great deal was listed. This 1950 Studebaker Champion is a 6 cylinder driver class car, 3-speed with overdrive. What’s more, they say it “runs great” delivery smooth and easy cruising. It should be noted that in the description they also say this is a rust-free example from California. It comes with a clean title and current registration. The distinctive styling of the Champion with its “bullet nose” is often noted by collectors. When I was a kid I thought they made a mistake and put two front ends on this model. The back window looked like a windshield. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is only $10,495.
1952 Plymouth Cranbrook
In yet another listing by Classic Car Deals, this 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook is being offered for sale as a beautiful example of a post-war American collector car. They say it is a true survivor with remarkable originality and well maintained. From the description we glean that the Inline 6 cylinder engine runs smooth and starts easily. It has a three-on-a-tree manual tranmission which is said to “shift well.” It was one-family owned from New Mexico as purchased by the original owner. They say all the gauges, lights and accessories function properly. They note that the interior has “beautiful, well-preserved uphostery.” Look at the photos. They say the suspension squeeks a little, but that it runs out well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $10,495.
1952 Ford Customline
This is the “sleeper” deal for this week. A 1952 Ford Customline was listed earlier this year for quite a bit more than the current price. The private party seller is from Poughkeepsie, New York and says this car has a great sound. It is an old school custom with a Flathead V8, Offenhauser heads, and dual carbs. It has been nosed and decked, and has a Pontiac grille, Lincoln push-button doors, skirts, pin striping, electric trunk release, dual mufflers and glass packs. It has a 3-speed floor mounted with a Hurst shifter. The side shot photo shows a nice looking two-tone paint job. It is a unique custom look, one-of-a-kind. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. He just dropped his price to $19,900.
1949 Ford Custom Deluxe
Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin is a regular contributor to the DEAL of the DAY listings. That’s because they come up with some great deals at deep discounts to the market. This 1949 Ford Custom Deluxe is a great example. They may have outdone themselves this week with this Shoebox Ford. It has had the same owner for the past 50 years, and is believed to have just 35k miles on it. It has the 239 ci V8 with a 3-speed manual transmission. And they say it starts easy and runs great. With an older repaint it looks pretty much origiinal. The interior is said to be mostly original as well. You can see it in the photos. There might be some rust in the rocker panels, but look at the photos. It looks good overall. Click here to watch a walk-around video inspection. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week if it lasts that long. Their asking price is only $9,900.
1984 Mercedes-Benz 280SL
Beverly Hills Car Club has a number of Mercedes Sport Light (SL) vehicles for sale this week. Here is a Signal Red 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280SL sport convertible with a black interior. The highly desirable 280SL with the R107 chassis is complemented by a black convertible top and body-color matching auxiliary hardtop. It has an inline-six cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. This model came with air conditioning, power windows, and four-wheel disc brakes. It comes with fuel injection, dual exhaust outlets, and Bosch front fog lights. The car rides on 15-inch wire wheels wrapped in Michelin tires, with a full-size spare neatly stored in the trunk. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $12,750. You don’t see them at that price very often.
1977 MG Midget
There is nothing like a little 1977 MG Midget to put a smile on the faces of anyone who sees it. If you want to enjoy a sunny day, here is your best friend. It is being offered for sale at Streetside Classics out of their store in the Tampa, Florida area. The Midget was built for fun. This one is seen here in Golden Rod Yellow paint with black bumpers and convertible top. While the car looks like an original British sports car, you will find a modern stereo and Bluetooth inside. The 1493 cc inline-four under the hood produced more torque than the earlier models. It features a Zenith carburetor. That makes it a powerful little car that outperforms its size. The transmission is a 4-speed manual to complete the sporty feel of the ride. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $12,995.
