Benchmark BelAir
The 1955 Chevrolet was a benchmark design that changed the way average U.S. citizens went about their daily lives. It was the beginning of the car culture in America. Legendary automotive leaders such as Ed Cole watched over the development of the small block V8 engine, while Harley Earl guided the direction of the “space age” styling that would shape the way Americans looked at automobiles for decades. Oh, yes, the 1955 Chevrolet started it all. And the top model in the Chevrolet stable was the BelAir.
Yesterday, a Senoia, Georgia collector put up his rare black on white 1955 Chevrolet BelAir Convertible for sale in the Cars-On-Line.com Chevrolet Section. He told us he bought the car in Atlanta in 1974. He says he is only the second owner. The car has just recently undergone an “extensive restoration with no expense spared.” He says it runs and drives like new with only 32 miles on it since the redo. In his description he says this car looks “Just like it came off the showroom floor.” It has the rebuilt 265 ci V8 engine and a Powerglide 2-speed transmission. The front suspension is all new and it has dual exhaust. The white convertible top operates with a new power motor and cylinders. As the glass and chrome is “all new,” the Onyx Black and India Ivory paint is basecoat/clearcoat, and is said to be “brilliant.” You have to see this one in the Slide Show photos.
The ”new” Chevrolet for 1955 had straight steel panels along the sides and the hood. It would be referred to as the “shoebox look” as time went on, in contrast to the bulbous full fenders of earlier cars. The 1955 also brought important innovations such as the switch to a 12-volt electrical system. Options such as air conditioning, power seats, power windows, power steering and power brakes became available. And the Wonderbar radio, bumper guards and automatic light dimmers came into existence. So many options became available at a price that was affordable by most buyers back then.
The BelAir was a forward looking statement of a culture that was entering a post-war decade making the American middle class the envy of the world.

The Lowrider Culture takes center stage today at the Smithsonian Institute as its National Museum of American History opens the “Corazón y vida: Lowriding Culture” display, beginning September 26, 2025. The National Museum of American History will feature two classic Chevy Impalas in its display. The famous 1963 “El Rey” Impala (shown here) named for the song by Mexican singer Vicente Fernández, comes from a traveling Lowrider exhibit. And the iconic 1964 “Gypsy Rose” Impala will also be on display. It was the car featured in the opening credits of the 1970s TV show Chico and the Man. The exhibition includes photos and a showcase of the tools of the trade, as well as posters and artwork that came out of the Lowrider culture. It is a celebration of the Mexican American influence here in America. The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums, 14 education and research centers, and the National Zoo among its main attractions. Most of the museum buildings are located in Washington, DC at the National Mall.

One thing that this car has that is extremely rare is the power canvas convertible top. Did you know they had power top technology in pre-war America? Wow!
Plymouth Road Runner Convertible
A rare 1969 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible was just posted by a private party seller from New Jersey. The original B5 Blue Road Runner ragtop is reported to have just 80,500 miles, and the motor and automatic tranmission have been rebuilt. Road Runner convertibles were only produced in 1969 and 1970, so finding one today is a rare opportunity. He says it has an older repaint which is now showing its age. There are a lot of updated parts listed in the ad copy. He says the power top operates perfectly. It has a woodgrain steering wheel and he says all the glass is in “great condition.” It even has a glass back window which is “new.” Mopar collectors will be salivating over the price.
Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer
Produced from 1981 untill 1984, the Ferrari 512 Boxer with fuel injected V-12 engine was in its final years of production. It marked the end of an era of production Ferraris which were hand crafted in metal. This 1984 Ferrari 512 Bbi Berlinetta Boxer is being offered for sale at the McLaren of North Jersey store on Route 17 outside Ramsey, New Jersey. They must have taken it in on trade. This historic Blu Scuro Ferrari is said to have only 24,526 miles. It comes with the 4,943 cc DOHC Flat-12 engine and a 5-speed manual transaxle. They tell us it is Ferrari Classiche Certified accompanied by its Red Book, and has documentation with invoices dating back to the 1980’s. The car is a beautiful wedge shapped Ferrari, and a mechanical work of art.

New cars are showing up in their auction inventory each week. Here are just a few new additions to their inventory this week.
Plymouth AAR Cuda
Our newsletter readers know how hard it is to find a real 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda these days. But here is a Light Metallic Blue 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda which will cross the auction block at the Fall Carlisle Auction in Carlisle, Pennsylvania next week. It is said to have only 39,883 actual miles. These cars are so popular now that no one wants to part with them. They were originally built by Chrysler to compete in the SCCA Trans Am racing series back in the day. They were only built for one year. It has the 340 V8 with 3 two-barrel carburetors (called a Six Pack in Mopar jargon) and manual 4-speed. It is one of only 1,120 manual 4-speed AAR Cudas to be built.
Twin Turbo Corvette
If you want a car no one else can have, here’s your huckleberry. It is a 2022 Corvette Stingray Coupe with a Twin Turbo meth injected Corvette affectionately known on the car show circuit as “Voodoo.” It was shown at SEMA in 2023 and has won Best of Show at the Atlantic City Import Expo and the 2024 Corvette Nationals at Carlisle. It has some exotic equipment such as Dodson Stage 2 clutches, Twin Turbochargers, a meth injection system fitted into the trunk and custom Liberty Walk wide body kit with an Air Ride system. And, as you can see from the photos, it has “show stopping” custom paint. It will be offered for sale at the Fall Carlisle Auction at the Expo Center next week.
”58 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz
One of the featured cars to be sold at the Fall Carlisle Auction next week is a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible, a very rare find. It is presented in Bronze over Desert Gold paint which is significant because they say it is an unrestored survivor with one repaint and has been in the same family for 43 years. So it has never been on the market before. It is the number 18 car out of 815 that were produced for 1958. This highly original example will be the talk of the Cadillac collector community as it comes up for auction at Carlisle. They say it even has a remarkable set of decuments. They note the dealer issued service card and the original registration certificate. It also comes with its original fiberglass parade boot.

Retro radio and gauges and tach are also aftermarket. Then he takes you underneath putting the car up on a lift to show some upgrades. Click the video window above and take notes. Deals of the Day
1974 Corvette Convertible
Canadian currency has become so weak compared to the U.S. dollar that some of the best classic car deals on the internet are now coming out of Canada. Here is a 1974 Corvette Convertible for sale which remains unrestored and rare. The Canadian seller points out that it has a rare color combination with red paint and interior. He says the 350 L48 engine and 4-speed manual transmission have been rebuilt to factory spec. It has an all new interior, with gauges and seats and carpet all new. He notes that the hoses, lines and gas tank have been replaced. The front end was redone. In effect, it is a turn key car ready for your approval. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. His asking price is $28,500.
1957 Ford Thunderbird
Our newsletter readers know what we always say about first generation Ford T-Birds … “if you find one for under $30,000 …. But it.” The proviso is you inspect it to make sure it is turnkey ready at that price. This week Streetside Classics listed a Flame Red 1957 Ford Thunderbird for sale out of their Tampa showroom. It not only has a red exterior finish, but it also has a red interior. It comes with a white auxiliary hardtop with porthole, and a black convertible top. It has the desirable 312 ci V8 engine and a 3-speed automatic transmission. Take a look a the photos. There are some maintenance receipts that come with the car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because their asking price is only $26,995.
1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Although there is not documentation available, this 1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is so original looking that they believe it to be a low miles and authentic example. It is being advertised for sale by Rare Rides in Statesville, North Carolina. Because of the way the odometer looks they believe it is a real 60,000 mile original car. The original paint has some touchup areas. It has a 350 ci V8 engine paired with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, dual exhaust, power front disc brakes, power steering and Rally wheels. Look at the photos to see a beautiful original interior. You will have to admit, it really presents well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday next week. Their asking rpice is $21,995.
1980 Bradley GT II
If you are attracted to the “exotic look” without the exotic price, look no further. You will find your dream car at Cody’s Classic Cars in little Stanley, Wisconsin. The Bradley was a kit car on the order of a Cimbria or Zimmer. The Bradley was a VW based fiberglass car which you could buy and build yourself, or Bradley Automotive out of Minnesota would build it for you. This 1980 Bradley GT II was significantly upgraded over the original kit car package. It now has new seats, carpet, gauges, rear wing, adjustable air shocks, wheels and tires. It is titled as a 1973 model. These kits were produced from 1970 to 1981. They say the paint and fiberglass are in excellent condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is $9,900.
2004 Porsche Boxster
Beverly Hills Car Club has a knack for finding some interesting cars at very low prices. This week they listed a black 2004 Porsche Boxster for sale. This is a sporty 5-speed sports car with 98,063 miles on the odometer. Its black with a black interior and black soft top. They say it has a California title and comes with Porsche branded calipers and roll bar hoops behind the seats. It is equipped with power windows, power seats and power mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, side air intakes and Firestone tires. They offer a clean CarFax report and CDR23 stereo. It has a well documented history having lived in Nevada and California. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is $15,750.
1968 Cadillac Sedan DeVille
Is there anything as smooth and comfortable as a big Cadillac Sedan DeVille? Well, the Classic Auto Mall just listed a 1968 Cadillac Sedan DeVille 4-Door Hardtop out of their fresh inventory. They call is a “garage find” because it has been lost in storage since 1987. Subsequently, it was purchased from its original owner and has a verified 54,502 actual miles. It has now been tuned up and put back on the road. It has a single stage coat of Caribe Aqua paint, its original color, in driver quality condition and showing some road rash. Upon inspection you will note a different shade of Aqua on the left front door. You should have this car inspected before you buy. Likely the inspector will discover some wear and tear in the interior. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. They are only asking $17,500.
1964 Triumph TR4 Roadster
The TR4 Triumph roadster was produced by Triumph Motor Company in the U.K. from 1961 untill 1965. Far more were sold new in the U.S. than in the U.K. actually. Most still remain here in the U.S. today. Americans just couldn’t get enough of the British sports car back in the day. This 1964 Triumph TR4 Roadster was just posted for sale by Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina. It has a 22R Inline 4 cylinder engine with 2366 cc producing over 100 horsepower. Top speeds on these little sports cars were reported over 100 mph. The 5-speed manual transmission is probably an upgrade. They tell us it comes with build receipts.
