An Original Superbird
The legendary 1970 Plymouth Superbird rolls across your screen today in its Lemon Twist color and with a numbers matching 440 Commando engine. It is being offered for sale through Streetside Classics out of Ft Worth, Texas. They believe the 37,783 miles showing on the odometer are actual. (See odometer photo on the ad page.) They did a video so you can hear it run.
They say this documented Winged Warrior remains loyal to its factory condition. The numbers-matching 440 Super Commando V8 still resides under the hood, showing a partial VIN stamp just above the oil pan. Power runs through a 3-speed A727 Torqueflite automatic transmission. The car retains its original exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust system with updated mufflers, and factory suspension layout. The Lemon Twist paint was added sometime after the first owner voluntarily gave the car back to the bank. There have been seven documented owners during its lifetime. Click here to watch the walk-around video by Streetside Classics in Ft Worth.
Only 1,920 Plymouth Superbirds were produced. They were purpose built to go racing on NASCAR’s super speedways where they broke speed records with their dramatic aerodynamics. They would easily reach speeds of over 200-miles-per-hour. Those speeds were achievable because of the high rear wing and the long front nose cone which reduced drag. Although the high speeds on NASCAR tracks were possible because they used the 426 Hemi engine, Plymouth dealers knew that the 440 Commando engine was more reliable for street versions.
The aero cars were so fast that they were effectively banned by NASCAR in 1971. Chrysler dropped the program when they could no longer use the Superbirds in NASCAR. Meanwhile the street versions, which were meant to be sold to the new car buying public, would languish on the dealer lots. The racing features were a little extreme for daily driving on the street. Little did we know how valuable they would become in today’s collector car market.

Classic Car News This Week
GAA Classic Summer Auction
If you watched the 2025 GAA Classic Summer Auction with us on You Tube last weekend, you may be as stunned as we were at the results. This 1965 Shelby GT350 sold for an amazing $650,000. The car came heavily documented and inspected by Curt Vogt of Cobra Automotive. Vogt thought highly of this car because of its originality. The nut & bolt restoratioin was documented and verified by multiple specialists. It was an early number production, known to be the 33rd car produced out of 562 that year. That is the type of sale they had last week in Greensboro, North Carolina as the Summer edition of the GAA Classic Auction wrapped up on Saturday. They also sold a 2005 Ford GT for $410,000. Several Shelby Mustangs were sold at No Reserve from high end collections. It was fun to watch. The next GAA Classic Auction will be held in the fall, November 6-8, 2025, in Greensboro.

1964 Corvette Fuelie N03 Tanker
Some big names among Corvette collectors have owned this rare 1964 Corvette Fuelie 327/375 N03 Tanker. But the biggest name of any of them owns it today and is now offering it for sale from his private collection. Joe Verrillo acquired this Tuxedo Black J56 N03 Tanker from one of the top Corvette Tanker restorers in the country. He then went on to achieve a Bloomington Gold Award and NCRS Regional Top Flight at the Regional Meet in Massachusetts. It has also won the Triple Diamond Award. It is one of only three Corvette Tankers produced in Tuxedo Black, and one of only 806 produced with the P48 aluminum knock-off wheels. Another of Joe’s N03 Tanker cars is available for sale today in the Corvette ads below.
Pontiac Acadian Canso SD
Just a few weeks ago in July we did a story on a rare 1968 Pontiac Beaumont Sport Deluxe when it was for sale at Southern Motors in Michigan. (Click the link to refer to that newsletter.) We went over the history of why Canadian tariffs caused GM and Pontiac to produce the Beaumont and the Acadian in Canada to get around having to charge customers more to cover for the Canadian tariffs. So today a Canadian seller listed his 1965 Pontiac Acadian Canso Sport Deluxe (the equivalent of a Canadian Nova Super Sport.) Only 672 of these Canadian Nova SS type cars were produced in Canada under the Pontiac logo. This one is now a 421 ci V8 tribute car. It is built with a Lunati cam, Eagle forged crank and rods, Edelbrock RPM intake manifold and Quadrajet carbutetor. It also has a Heidts front subframe with tubular a-arms, disc brakes and rack & pinion steering. Quite a ride!
Ferrari 512 Boxer
When Ferrari came out with the BB series cars (commonly called the “Boxers”) it was a game changer for exotic sports cars. The flat 12-cylinder engine which the Boxer was based on gave street driven cars the performance of their racing counterparts. It was the first Ferrari to offer a mid-engine layout. Soon after the introduction of the 365 GT’s Boxer engine came the 512 BBI with marked improvement in road manners. This week a 1983 Ferrrari 512 BBI Berlinetta Boxer was listed for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They say it has only 30,713 miles on the odometer and is finished in the Ferrari Rosso Corsa red with a contrasting black interior. It is a rare car with its timeless design. Futhermore, they say it has been a California car. The Flat 12 engine is fuel injected and it has a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Etoile 55B wheels are 17-inch shod with Nitto tires and 4-wheel disc brakes. Beverly Hills Car Club is currently documenting the car’s history. They tell us it is mechanically sound.

1959 Volkswagen Bus
Tony Fleming takes us on a “deep dive” into this 1959 Volkswagen Kombi Van, an 11-passenger “party bus.” He notes that this one has been heavily optioned. Wait till you see the semaphore turn signal function. Not only does it have pop-out windows, but it also has a beautifully straight paint job. The restoration was way over the top. It even has the roof-rack and ladder. Tony gives you some tips you can really use when buying a VW bus. You have to see this video.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1974 Pontiac Firebird
A Canadian seller is offering up his “Time Capsule” 1974 Pontiac Firebird for sale. The “Rockford Files” body style is famous and the color is Fire Coral Bronze, a real nice looking color. What is significant about this particular Firebird, though, is the amazing low miles. This is why the seller calls it a “time capsule.” He says it still has only 9,400 original miles. Some of the lacquer may be cracking in the finish, but it still looks good in the photos. It is all original down to the factory glass, factory brakes and spiral shocks and Goodyear polyglass tires. A true survivor, the original owner passed the first year it was new. The car was stored and stayed in the family. Now it is available for sale.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1980 Corvette, North Shore Classics, North Shore Classics, 32,709 miles
You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.

One of the most coveted collector cars of all time is the Chevrolet Nomad. So rare and unusual in its day, the Nomad stands out as a very desirable car to own if you are a car collector. So it peaked out interest when an Ohio advertiser dropped the price on his 1957 Chevrolet Nomad this week. This is reported to be a professionally restored classic station wagon. The restoration was said to have been completed in the Spring of 2019. It was appraised by DCI Automotive & Motorsports. They gave it an 8.5 rating on a ten point scale. The seller originally advertised it for $84,500. However, just this week he dropped the price to $74,000. Now how do you like it?

The original GTO came with a manual 4-speed transmission and Rallye II wheels. It has the dual snorkel air cleaner and hood tach. It is being offered for sale by Showdown Auto in Fraser, Michigan. They tell us everything is either new or rebuilt.

Deals of the Day
1990
The 1990 Corvette ZR1 designed by Lotus was the game changer event of the decade for the automotive industry. Once again Corvette was defining itself as the manufacturing gem of the U.S. All ZR1 Corvettes are eminentally collectible. So it was a big surprise to find a 1990 Corvette ZR1 in our DEAL of the DAY pricing category today. What a find. It is being offered by Sovereign Auto Group in Michigan. It has its 375 horsepower LT5 32-valve DOHC V8 with a 6-speed manual transmission and comes with two roofs. To make it even sweeter, this one only has 45,000 miles. With the Z51 package, it also has the FX3 electronically controlled Selective Ride and handling settings. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $24,000. Best price on a ZR1.
1938 Cadillac LaSalle
Unique Classic Cars in Minnesota just got in a 1938 Cadillac LaSalle 4-Door Sedan with suicide doors. They set the asking price but, as yet, do not have a description posted. We think this could be the “sleeper deal” of the week. They are only asking $19,900. While the interior is soiled and shows some wear, the exterior shots look pretty sharp. There is some obvious surface rust developing on the undercarriage, but it looks to be pretty solid yet. The engine compartment (front what you can see in one photo) looks pretty clean. You definitely would have to have it inspected before you buy. Maybe Unique will do thair normal walk-around inspection video by next week. But it might not last that long. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday.
1954 Buick Century Riviera
This 1954 Buick Century Riviera is looking pretty sharp in the ad photos. It is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. Buick brought back the name Riviera to denote their hardtop coupe in the Century line. It was the Series 60 Coupe with a Fireball V8 engine, four-barrel carburetor and automatic transmission. This one comes with a California title and whitewall tires. Oh, and lots of chrome. Convenience features include comfortable bench seating, vent windows, quarter windows, and a vintage Sonomatic AM radio. The sleek Fisher body showcases a lot of detail in the design. Buick was known for sophistication and elegance. They say this one is mechanically sound. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $19,750.
1930 Ford Model A
Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota also just listed a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe for sale. This is a new arrival and they don’t have the description on their site yet, but they do have a bevy of photos. It looks as though the interior has been redone. The engine compartment still has an original looking four cylinder engine. It’s not rusty but its not detailed either. Kind of a work in progress. But the undercarriage looks real clean. That’s amazing, isn’t it? May be they will put their normal video link up and let us hear it run this week. If not, you should have it inspected. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $17,900.
1954 Plymouth Plaza
It looks as though Unique Classic Cars is dominating the low price point market these days. After all, they are a classic car wholesaler. They just posted a 1954 Plymouth Plaza, a very rare car. This is another new arrival and they do not have a description up on their site yet on this one. The exterior photos look good with the paint shining in every frame. However, nothing replaces a pre-purchase inspection to tell you what the condition class of a verhicle really is. The undercarriage shots are inconclusive. The interior cleans up pretty nice from the few photos we can see. The transmission is a 3-speed manual on the column, white the engine is a straight 6 cylinder. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $14,900
1952 MG TD Roadster
Although it makes a pleasing first impression from 20 feet, this one needs to be looked at up close. Classic Auto Mall has listed a 1952 MG TD Roadster at a very affordable price point. The vintage sports car is on consignment there with only 10,770 miles on the odometer. But they say the miles cannot be documented. They say that in 2024 this car received a thorough professional overhaul with the fuel system and brakes redone. Receipts will accompany the sale. However, the body and paint are in driver quality condition at best. That might be giving it too much credit. On a test drive they noted that the speedometer, odometer and wipers were not working. And the transmission has a bad 2nd gear. Although it runs and drives, the condition may put it into a project class for restoration. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $15,000.
1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL
Although it has an auxiliary hardtop, this Mercedes SL convertible evidently does not have a soft top. So the photos are all with the top on. It is a 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL for sale at a very affordable price point. It is being offered for sale by MGM Classic Cars in Illinois. They have a walk-around video inspection you can watch. It sounded good as it started up and seems to run okay. But you should have it inspected to fill in the blanks that the lack of a description is obviously creating. If you are interested you can call them and get a verbal description. The price is right so it is a matter of how much work it would need, if any. Tom or Earl will be happy to talk to you about the car. You want to find out if it is a driver or a project. It’s hard to tell at this point. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY because the asking price only $12,888.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
1988 Pontiac Fiero | $14,900 | Mankato, MN |
