Hot Trends in the Market
Chevelle Super Sports have been the hottest cars to find in the collector car market for the past few years. Right now they are selling as fast as they are listed. For instance, this 1972 Chevelle SS 454 was listed for sale by Haggle Me, an internet broker out of Indiana. We noticed that the ad was taking a long time to come up last night. Why? Because it’s a Chevelle Super Sport and they are hot right now. We noticed that this link was real slow to resolve during heavy internet traffic hours in the evening. We thought something was wrong with the link. It turns out that so many people were trying to look at this ad that it was maxing out the Haggle Me website bandwidth to keep up with the number of buyers clicking on the ad link. That is an indication of how hot Chevelle SS cars are right now. This one especially.
This is a rare 1972 Chevelle SS 454 which they tell us is a true W Code Super Sport with a factory big block. It also has a 4-speed manual tranmission. You will have to contact Haggle Me for more details. Another reason for the interest in this particular SS is because of the price. You won’t find a big block Super Sport in this price range very often. The W code in the fifth position of the VIN means everything to Super Sport Chevelle collectors. That “W” shows that it was an original Super Sport model from the factory with the 454 big block engine. The 454 was the top engine option available that year and was exclusively offered with the SS option package.
Its no secret the Chevelle Super Sports are popular. But recently we have noticed that they are getting bought up as soon as they are listed. Several which were listed this week were already sold before we could show them here in the newsletter. Click here to go to our Chevelle Section online where you can view 279 Chevelle ads. You might find an SS there that has not yet been snapped up. Good hunting.

We are here at the GAA Classic Summer Auction in Greensboro, North Carolina today. The auction, which started yesterday, will run through Saturday, July 26th, with a lot of the big collections being sold at No Reserve. Our newsletter readers have been reading our previews here in the newsletter for the last few weeks. It will be interesting to see what cars are selling for here this summer. There will be a lot of “blue collar” muscle cars and 1950’s classics going through the sale. Click here to view their auction inventory. 1929 Packard 626 Runabout
A dapper 1929 Packard 626 Runabout was listed for sale by Ellingson Motorcars out of Minnesota. As the beginning of the year progressed it was looking like 1929 would be Packard’s best year ever. Of course, everyone knows what actually happened in October of that year. They say almost half of the cars sold in the U.S. had a Packard emblem on them. That’s how dominant the marque was in those days. This Runabout was in the same ownership for 40 years. It is powered by a 319.2 ci L-head Straight 8 engine with a 3-speed manual transmission and a floor mounted shifter. It has the new for ’29 parabolic headlights including a center-mounted driving light as well as a pair of chrome cowl lights and a driver’s side auxiliary spotlight. It is also optioned with dual side-mounted spare tires topped with Packard chrome outside mirrors. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. Ellingson Motorcars makes note that the new buyer would immediately be eligible to participate in CCCA events and CARavans.
1933 Essex Terraplane Pickup
Now here is one you don’t see often. This is a 1933 Essex Terraplane Pickup truck restored as a street rod. It is being offered for sale by a private party seller from Virginia. He says it has been restored twice, both documented with photos. The most recent restoration was a frame-off. The seller says the paint is so beautiful it is hard to describe. You have to see this one in the flesh. And he also contends that this pickup is the only remaining survivor. That makes it a one-of-a-kind Essex Terraplance pickup truck. You will notice that all of the mods have been tastefully done to preserve the look and stance of the original. Inside the truck features a JVC stereo and Bluetooth. The bed cover has hydraulic supports. Yes, this one is very special.
’59 Coupe DeVille Show Car
A 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille custom lowrider was listed for sale yesterday. The seller is from Finland, so, to authenticate the ad we had to contact the seller. Sure, enough, this high end show car has been in Finland all this time. Who would have guessed that an iconic custom like this one was being shown at car shows in Europe. It rivals anything you would see at Pomona or Detroit auto shows. Since the seller does not speak English fluentl, he has promised us to send us more history on this one. A little known fact is that some Cadillacs were produced for GM at a facility in Antwerp, Belgium to reduce the tariff costs. We will be interested to find out if this is one of them.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1979 Lincoln Mark V
Orlando Classic Cars built their reputation on scouring the country to find the lowest miles collector cars for their resale inventory. This week they listed a 1979 Lincoln Mark V for sale. You won’t believe this. It comes with two window stickers which have never been removed. On top of that, this is a rare color combination for a Lincoln, and it comes with a moonroof. This remarkable luxury car is said to have only 780 original miles. (No, that’s not a typo.)
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1979 Ford Thunderbird, Orlando Classic Cars, 7,000 miles
1975 Ford Gran Torino, West Port Auto Center, 30,000 miles
1977 Chrysler New Yorker, Orlando Classic Cars, 33,000 miles
1979 Ford Thunderbird Heritage, Orlando Classic Cars, 26,000 miles

You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.
Project Vehicles for Restoration
1964 Falcon Futura Convertible
A sharp looking 1964 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible was listed for sale this week at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. We think this might be an easy fixer upper. They say it runs and drives, but it will need some work to be fully road worthy. What a great project for somebody with the right skills. Be sure to have it inpected before you buy. They say it is a California car with a 5-speed manual transmission and the legendary Ford 302 ci V8 engine. It has buckets seats.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

Deals of the Day
1968 Buick GS400 Convertible
With Chevrolet Chevelle muscle cars commanding so much attention in the market now, how long will it be before buyers start appreciating Buick Gran Sports and Oldsmobile 442’s the seame way? Not long, I recon. Here is a great example. A 1968 Buick GS400 Convertible was just listed by Sovereign Auto Group in Flushing, Michigan. They are a wholesaler, and often find collector cars on the wholesale market. They say this one is in great condition, with a 400 ci V8 engine factory rated at 340 hp. It has the 3-speed Turbo Hydromatic automatic transmission and is upgraded with power front disc brakes. Click here to watch their walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $29,900.
1961 Ford Falcon Ranchero
A driver quality 1961 Ford Falcon Ranchero was just posted for sale by Classic Car Deals. They say the car is located in New York. Be sure to look at the photos. It is interesting the way the fender skirts reimagine this car/truck. It has a rebuilt six cylinder engine, a 200 ci inline 6 from a ’67 Mustang. They say it runs strong and has no leaks. The original C2 automatic tranmission is in the car/truck. They have converted to an HEK disstributor and it has new electric wipers, new dual master cylinder and 14-inch wheels upgraded for disc brakes. They say it also has new shocks and headliner. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $11,495.
1956 Ford Thunderbird
Our newsletter readers know what we always say, “If you find a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000 … buy it.” Let’s see if this one fits the bill. Beverly Hills Car Club just listed this 1956 Ford Thunderbird for sale this week. It is Fiesta red with a red and white two tone interior. And, yes, it does come with a port-hole auxiliary hardtop and the Continental kit. It has an automatic transmission, V8 engine, hood scoop, rear fender skirts, and white-wall tires with 15-inch steel wheels and Ford hubcaps. You will find a retro style stereo in the interior. They say it is mechanically sound, and it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their price is $29,950.
1957 Chevrolet 210
This 1957 Chevrolet 210 Sedan is said to be “a timeless classic that captures the spirit of mid-century American automotive design.” It was just listed for sale this week by Garage Kept Classics in Michigan. They tell us it is powered by a 235 ci inline 6 cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. They say it offers a smooth and reliable driving experience. A great deal of enterprise was invested in keeping this car original. The Turquoise exterior finish will get you attention. They say this car was lovingly cared for. Click here to watch a walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. Their asking price is $17,900.
1959 Chevrolet Bel Air
For the mechanically inclined, here is a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air for sale by a private seller in Oklahoma. He says it has been sitting in an insulated barn for ten years. It has a 235 incline 6 with a 3-speed manual column shift. He has replaced the rod bearings, oil pump, lifters, gasket kit and has done a complete head rebuild with hardened seats. The original interior and headliner are still in the car. He says there are 61,000 on the odometer. He mentions “very little rust” on the lower quarters. He says the floor pans are solid. You should have it inspected before you buy. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $18,000.
1971 VW Karmann Ghia Convt
Beverly Hills Car Club also listed this 1971 VW Karman Ghia Convertible for sale this week. The striker orange color exterior is contrasted with a black interior. It still has a blue California plate, and it sports a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine is a carbureted 1600cc flat-four, and it has front-wheel disc brakes, dual exhaust outlets, chrome bumpers with overriders, VDO instrumentation, and 15-inch chrome wheels. One thing you should know is that the VW Karmann Ghia is being offered with a salvage title. Yet, Beverly Hills Car Club assures that it is mechanically sound. (You should always have a car inspected before you buy.) So it will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $16,750.
1999 Porsche Boxster
This 1999 Porsche Boxster is pretty nicely priced. It is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics in Phoenix, Arizona. The Ocean Blue metallic Porsche has some interesting upgrades. It has H&R coil overs, H&R front and rear sway bars and the brake system has Brembo braided lines. The coil overs and sway bars lower the height on the car, so it hugs the ground. Inside it has Graphite Gray leather bucket seats, climate control air conditioning, and the cabin includes power windows, power locks, power mirrors, and a telescopic steering wheel. Fuel is delivered by electronic fuel injection. This one has the Porsche G86.00 transaxle. It has 17” factory alloy wheels and the canvas top is blue. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. They are only asking $15,995.
