Rarest of the Cameos
Chevrolet made the trend setting Cameo Carrier pickup trucks for four years back in the late ’50s. The rarest was the 1958 model when only 1,405 of these pickup trucks were produced. It was the last year of their production, with the lowest production numbers of the four year run. Chevrolet’s Cameo Carrier was a high profile factory built truck with passenger car type creature comforts. No longer just a work truck, the pickup truck was taking on the role of the “family car” with greater utility for suburban life. The Chevrolet Cameo Carriers were produced from 1955 through 1958.
This week a pair of classic Chevrolet Cameo Carriers were listed for sale by Rare Rides, a classic car dealer out of Statesville, North Carolina. The Golden Yellow 1958 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Pickup you see pictured above is the rarest of the two. It was also the last year for the Cameo’s 4” X 8” fiberglass bed. The signature feature on the Cameo was a large wrap-around rear window. They say it was beautifully restored in the 1990’s and still shows exceptionally well. The interior is a gorgeous tri-color black, yellow and silver. Note the painted steel wheels with whitewall bias-ply tires and factory hubcaps. It has a wood bed floor and signature fiberglass Cameo styling bed. They describe it as stunning.
Rare Rides also listed a Cardinal Red 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Pickup from the same collection. This “luxury” utility truck is a very desirable classic pickup. These Cameo pickup trucks with the big back windows blurred the lines between what had been considered a work truck back in the day, and what was now becoming more comfortable family transportation. Chevrolet was making a statement about how pickup trucks would be used in a post-war modern day America.
Chevrolet produced the Cameo Carrier pickup until 1958. It was the top-o-the-line model pickup for those years. The 1958 model had the lowest production numbers and is the rarest of these in the eyes of a collector. In 1959 the Cameo Carrier was replaced by the El Camino.

1966 Shelby GT350R
One of the premier resale shops in the country, The Throttlestop, has posted a top-tier resto mod muscle car for sale this week. This 1966 Shelby GT350R tribute was conceived to honor the Shelby GT350R race cars, by infusing this classic Mustang Fastback with modern performance and high tech equipment. It has a race-proven 8-point roll cage, dry sump oiling system, Total Control Products front coil-over conversion and G-LINK 4-link suspension. Click here for a walk-around video and hear it cackle. There are only 2,786 miles on the car since its restoration, and The Throttlestop says it is fully dialed in, ready for the road or track. The power plant is a 427 ci Windsor stroker with Dart aluminum block. Already mini-tubbed, it is one of the most over the top restorations you will find.
1968 Dodge Dart GTS
Dodge Darts and Plymouth Dusters are probably some of the most desirable Mopars currently available in the collector car market at an affordable price. Here is one of the most popular Darts you can find. It is a 1968 Dodge Dart GTS now being offered for sale at GearHead Classics in Sherman, Texas. This is a real deal GTS 383 A-body car. They say the original 383 is still under the hood. It is backed by a 4-speed transmission managing the torque. With factory bucket seats and a center console it checks all the boxes. The paint is BB1 black with a black interior. Click here to watch their walk-around video and hear it run. It has front disc brakes and 15-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels. Yes, that is a factory tach that you see in the photos.
2018 Fiat 124 Spider
Here is something pretty unique in today’s collector market. For a short time the Italian carmaker Fiat was producing a second generation 124 Spider, one of Fiat’s most memorable creations from back in the day. They produced the retro 124’s from 2016 until 2019. These cars were meant for the North American market where Fiat had some history with two-seater sports cars. This week Reina International Auto in Brookfield, Wisconsin posted this rare 2018 Fiat 124 Spider for sale. It is one of only 3,515 sold in the U.S. Reina says there are just over 18,000 miles on this one. It has the 1.4L Turbo I4 with a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission. It is seen here in Brilliant White with Recaro leather and Alcantara sport seat.
Auctions
We are only a week away from one of the biggest events of the summer auction season. Over 750 vehicles are set to cross the auction block next month when the GAA Classic Summer Auction happens in Greensboro, North Carolina, July 24-26, 2025. We consider this auction to be the best barometer of what prices should be on these top end collector cars. Collectors should take notes. Classic car dealers from throughout the Southeastern U.S. will be on hand to buy special cars for their inventories. And countless more from all over the country will be buying online or over the phone. But the event is open to the public and anybody with a bidder’s registration can bid on these cars. Here are some recent additions to the auction inventory.
1969 COPO Camaro
This is big! A 1969 COPO Camaro was just added to the auction offerings at this year’s GAA Classic Summer Auction in Greensboro, North Carolina next week. They say the Daytona Yellow COPO Camaro comes with a correct date 512 casting L72 427/425 V8 engine, as well as a CX 1969 Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission. According to the description it has a correct Winter’s Snowflake aluminum intake, ZL2 Special ducted hood, chambered exhaust and 4.10 posi rear axle. Documentation includes dealer invoice, Protect-O-Plate, X11D80 trim tag, NCRS Shipping Date report and the original title from 1969.
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
A Plum Crazy Purple 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T will be crossing the auction floor at the GAA Classic Summer Auction late in the sale on Saturday afternoon. That’s when the cars from the Jimmie and Julianne Rawls Collection will be sold at No Reserve. This is one of the No Reserve cars. It was in the judging for the 2024 Carlisle Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. They say it has the 440 Magnum engine and an automatic transmission. You can see a copy of the build sheet in the ad photos. Click here for a walk-around video and hear that engine run. Nice lopey cam. It has bucket seats and wood-trimmed console and steering wheel.
Jeff Gordon Monte Carlo
A NASCAR 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was raced by Jeff Gordon at Daytona International Speedway. The Hendrick Motorsports car was set up for Super Speedway racing. It finished in the Top Five in three separate races between 2002 and 2004. Powered by an 830-Horsepower SB2 NASCAR-Spec Engine, it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Hendrick Motorsports. This is the way it looked in 2004 Dupont Flame livery with black 15-inch Aero steel wheels. Being a race car, it is sold with a Bill of Sale only. No title. It will be crossing the auction block at the GAA Classic Summer Auction on Saturday, July 26 in Greensboro.

1950 Chevrolet Patina Pickup
If you get off on patina pickup trucks you will want to watch this video. Here is a 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Custom looking rough, a sleeper for whats under the hood. The fresh ZZ6 crate engine is a heart stopping V8 with aluminum Chevy heads. On top sits an Edelbrock Performer 4-barrel and intake. With the engine matched to a new TCI Streetfighter automatic transmission and torque converter, there is more than enough to spin the 10-bolt rear axle. Check the photos. Click the video window above to get a full walk-around tour and hear it run. Downright cool.

Project Vehicles for Restoration

1960 Rolls-Royce
Are you an opportunist? Well, this might be your huckleberry. A 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II was just posted for sale by Gullwing Motor Cars out of New York. They say it is an excellent California car and a strong driver. But there is some attention needed to cosmetic issues. They note pitting in the chrome and wear on the leather seats. They say the car is straight and solid with good panel fit and door gaps. This one might be easy to put back to driver quality. Possible money maker?

Price Reduced
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
A Mopar collector from Connecticut just lowered the price on his Plum Crazy Purple 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. Now this is a V Code 440 6 Pack car so it is very rare and desirable. He says it was the recipient of a complete rotisserie restoration. He says the work was done with the best of parts and workmanship. Although the block is correct, it has been rebuilt with high performance internals by one of the best builders in his state. He says it has dynoed at 510 hp with factory exhaust. When he first listed this car he was asking $135,000. But just this week he dropped the price to $110,000.

It has a 750 Holley carburetor with a roller cam and aluminum heads and intake. The fenders, hood and rear deck lid are fiberglass. It has a ladder bar suspension.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

Deals of the Day

1967 Plymouth Barracuda
This car has been raced. It is FASSSSSSST! With eye-catching orange paint, this 1967 Plymouth Barracuda is not for the faint of heart. It was built as a race car with a 416 ci stroker engine match with a “beefed up” automatic tranmission. It is being offered for sale this week at Mershons in Ohio. The performance features include an aluminum high flow intake manifold, long tube headers and HEI ignition. They say when you are not on the throttle, it drives around town like a “pussy cat” happy to idle gently down the street. Still, be careful out there. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. They are only asking $16,900.
1939 Desoto Club Coupe
For one year only, the Hayes Body Company created a factory custom coupe that was to be the most luxurious car ever produced. Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles just posted one of these rare cars for sale in our Desoto Section. This 1939 Desoto Hayes Bodied Club Coupe is quite a find for the right collector. The body was designed to provide unusual room and comfort. The rear seat was 42 ½ inches wide. The front and back seats were especially comfortable with luxury springs and rubber padded cushions. It has the reliable Chrysler straight six engine, Flying Lady hood ornament, wood dash, whitewall tires and vent windows plus pop-out quarter windows. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is only $19,750.
1958 Studebaker Silver Hawk
Studebaker produced the Silver Hawk sports car model for three years, 1957 to 1959. After that they dropped the Silver Hawk logo and just called it the Hawk. It was interesting to see a red 1958 Studebaker Silver Hawk listed for sale this week by Haggle Me, an internet broker. The 1958 model Silver Hawks are the most rare, with fewer being made that year, possibly because Studebaker was producing a Packard Hawk also in ’58. This six cylinder sports car had distinct European styling and design. They say this one was all redone with new paint and carpets. It has bucket seats, and it is said that the Studebaker runs well with smooth shifts. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $17,900.
1951 Ford Custom
A private party seller from the St Joseph area in Missouri listed his 1951 Ford Custom Tudor Sedan for sale this week. He says he is the third owner, and that the car has less than 60,000 original miles. It is offered with its original 239 Flathead V8 engine and a 3-speed “on-a-tree” manual transmission. You can tell from the Slide Show photos that much care has been given to this classic Ford. The upholstery and carpet have clearly been updated and look impressive in the photos. He says the paint is 30 years old. He wants us to know that the floor pans are excellent. It has new dual master cylinder, front disc brakes, water pump and motor mounts. The rear axle has been updated. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday because he is only asking $15,000.
1990 Pontiac Firebird
You should check this out. A 1990 Pontiac Firebird was just listed for sale by Streetside Classics in Nashville. They have this one as a price leader because the price they are asking is very affordable. They consider it to be a “super clean survivor.” It has the 3.1 liter V6 with an automatic transmission and blows cold air conditioning. The 1990 Firebird has that defined Trans Am look with the center console and factory floor shifter. It has factory correct 15-inch wheels which give it the look and stance of a Trans Am, too. They say the 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth acceleration. The air has been converted to R134a. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. The asking price is $13,995.
1973 Triumph TR6
A nice looking Pimento Red 1973 Triumph TR6 Roadster was listed by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. It has a black convertible top with a boot cover. The 4-speed two seater sports car has an inline six cylinder engine, dual carburetors, dual exhaust, front disc brakes, Smiths instruments, wood trim dash and Lucas branded taillights. The 15-inch alloy wheels give it a look and stance that make it what everyone wants in a British sports car. It has bucket seats, dual side rearview mirrors and an AM/FM stereo. It smacks of British styling and timeless appeal. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week (if it lasts that long.) Their asking price is only $12,750.
1978 MGB Roadster
Another British sports car two-seater will be making the front page of our website in the DEAL of the DAY next week. This 1978 MGB Roadster is rare in that it has a matching hardtop with a sunroof along with the convertible soft top. It is being offered for sale at the famous Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. The owner says he replaced the carburetor, timing chain, water pump, brake rotors and numerous seals. They say that for a 62.5 horsepower car this one has some pep. Read their description of the test drive. They have some nice things to say. They also noted that the package shelf is carpeted and clean, “and the trunk is spotless with nice paint and housing a spare.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $12,500.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
