Rare Canadian “Chevelle”
The United States and Canada have had tariff and trade negotiation challenges long before the recent Trump administration. GM felt that the demand for a Chevelle SS in Canada was significant but the tariff cost to import them to Canada would hurt their profits. To avoid tariffs on non-Canadian built automobiles, American auto manufacturers tried producing factory duplicates of their popular performance cars at their Canadian plants. For instance the Pontiac Beaumont was created and built in Canada from 1966 to 1969 on the Chevrolet Chevelle platform. Because it was built in Canada it could be sold there without a tariff cost to the manufacturer. By 1969 the Canadian tariffs had eased enough that there was no need to produce the Beaumont any longer. But for collectors today these cars are a rare and desirable find.
This week, Southern Motors in Clarkston, Michigan listed a sweet 1968 Pontiac Beaumont SD for sale in our Pontiac Section online. Wait till you see the video on this one. It can really spin the tires. In Canadian Pontiac nomenclature the “SD” stood for Super Deluxe, which was the equivalent of the Super Sport designation for Chevrolet. The Beaumont SD was the high trim level performance car with a 396 high performance big block engine. It was sold exclusively at Pontiac-Buick dealers in Canada. They recorded 767 Pontiac Beaumont SD hardtops produced by Pontiac in Canada for 1968. You can tell the difference between a Beaumont and a Chevelle from the front grille and rear tail lights. The rear valance has a more narrowed look on the Beaumont. The interior on the Beaumont was copied from the Pontiac Lemans. They had the same Rally wheels as the Chevelle, but the center cap was blank. The one from Southern Motors currently has Ridler wheels.
This is a beautiful factory (K Code) Tripoli Turquoise metallic muscle car with a white SD stripe, factory (794) Parchment vinyl interior, matching numbers (ET) 396 ci engine, 4-barrel carburetor, factory intake manifold, chrome air cleaner and valve covers, headers, HEI distributor, power steering, power front disc brakes, Vintage air conditioning, 400 turbo hydramatic transmission, factory bucket seats with center console, tilt column with Sport wheel, and factory tach and gauges. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run.
When you buy this muscle car, you not only own a piece of automotive history, but you will have a “Chevelle” that handles as though it were a GTO. That proves that Pontiac did it better.

Classic Car News This Week
Happy 4th of July!
It just so happens that the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter comes out on Independence Day this year! Happy 4th of July to you all! There is no country on earth that has more freedom than we do here in the United States of America. When I talk to my grandchildren I realize they have a different take on what freedom means. Each generation of Americans seems to feel a little more “entitled” than the generation before them. Freedom from burdensome taxation is what the revolutionaries fought for. We won the right to representation in our government. With those rights come responsibilities. We should take care of our own because Americans look out for each other. Every good mechanic knows that things break. We trust in God that He will always grant us the courage to roll up our sleeves and make things right again. In a world that is constantly changing … that doesn’t change. We have a saying, “In God We Trust.” Is it any wonder why the United States is the leader of the world? That’s what our grandchildren need to know today. The Way, the Truth and the Life.
Ferrari Amalfi V8
Ferrari has rolled out a new entry level model to replace the Roma. They call it the Amalfi. Just a few years ago the Roma replaced the Ferrari California as the least expensive exotic car in the Ferrari lineup. Now the Amalfi will replace the Roma in 2026 (the 2027 edition will be available in early 2026.) It is a V8 powered street friendly car that has the machismo to perform at the track. The 2+2 coupe is described in Ferrari’s promotions as a “minimalist” modern design blending tradition and innovation. Click here for an Amalfi video done by Petrol Ped. The Amalfi competes for the same group of buyers as the Aston Martin DB11, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S or Mercedes-Benz GT Coupe. The “cheapest” Ferrari is expected to start at $283,000.

1963 Corvette Z06 Tanker
For the Corvette afficianado, here is one of the rarest you will ever find. A 1963 Corvette Z06 was listed for sale this week by Verrillo Motor Car Company in New York. They informed us that this was an N03 Tanker, which was ordered through the COPO system. It has fuel injection and 2-bar knockoff wheels. Not just a show car, this vintage Z06 is a Triple Diamond show winner, having a Top Flight Award, Bloomington Gold certified and won the 2024 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Gold Concourse Award. There is no higher honor for a classic Corvette than the Triple Diamond. It is part of the Joe Verrillo Tanker Collection. They have put it up for sale this week. The Z06 is a high performance package that is very rare. This one comes with the 36.5 gallon fuel tank.
1955 Chevy Gasser
Just as we were publishing the newsletter today an old gasser builder from Kansas listed his 1955 Chevy Gasser 2-Door Sedan for sale. It has a Big Block 510 ci V8 with an 871 Weiand blower fed by 2 930 Holleys. Wheeuw, man! What a thrill ride. He says it runs as sweet as a new puppy on the street, but you open the headers and get on the throttle … it’lll take on just about anything. He says he has had it at the track a few times but he doesn’t push it. He’s got too much $$$ in that engine build. It has custom headers, custom radiator, dual electric fans, and a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a tranny cooler. The rear end is a Ford 9-inch, 330 gears with lockers. He says it runs cool on 91 octane gas. And the best part is he is very reasonable on his price. This is worth checking out.

1974 Triumph TR6 Roadster
Be sure to watch this video of a 1974 Triumph TR6 Roadster which is being offered for sale at Legendary Motors LLC in Rowley, Massachusetts. The Mallard Blue sports car looks super sharp in the video. Note the dual exhaust tips and beige vinyl interior. The 2.5-liter inline 6 cylinder engine has dual Zenith Stromberg carburetors for a classic rumble. It has a 4-speed transmission. You will see that both the black vinyl convertible top with a plastic windows and tan convertible boot cover are in particularly good condition and free of imperfections. It comes with a Continental kit, green and white tutone interior and an automatic transmission. The engine is the desirable 312 ci V8. Be sure to watch the walk-around video and hear it run.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1949 Mercury Coupe
It looks as though this 1949 Mercury Coupe was in storage for an extended amount of time. It is a dead ringer for the James Dean Merc from Rebel Without A Cause. Offered for sale this week at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania, they say they were able to get it started but that it will not run because of old fuel in the tank. It might be a project that would not take much time or effort to get back on the road again. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy to get a better idea of the work needed. It still has the 255 Flathead V8.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:
1967 Pontiac GTO from Herlong, CA

The 350 engine has been totally rebuilt and so has the matching automatic transmission. It also comes with performance enhancements such as the front disc brakes, heavy-duty front and rear sway bars, four Bilstein shocks and a 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor. Its authenticity and performance will impress you.

Deals of the Day
1961 Pontiac Catalina Convertible
You may find several 1961 Pontiac Catalina Convertible collector cars for sale at any one time on the internet, but they are by no means plentiful. It is hard to find one in this kind of condition, and you will never find one at this price. Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota has it for sale. They just got it in and do not yet have a description posted. You can tell from the photos that it is clean and presents as a driver quality car should. But the sheet metal is really nice on this car. We would need more photos to tell for sure but it looks like the body panels are good and original. You would need to have it inspected to know for sure if the photos are hiding anything. It has a parade boot and looks sharp. It looks like that is a 389 2-barrel a very quiet and smooth performing engine. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $27,900.
1949 Ford 2-Door
An old Virginia mechanic is ready for his new project, so he just put his 1949 Ford Coupe up for sale. This is a driver that you’ll want to take to local shows. Be sure to view the video in the ad. The mechanic says it is a very reliable car with the classic look and custom performance. It has an updated 302 ci Ford engine and an automatic transmission with air conditioning. He says “the showbox starts easily, idles smoothly, and cruises at highway speeds. The roller motor was sourced from a Mercury Marquis and already has the 12-volt system. And it does have an 8” Ford rear end. The front brakes are disc and drums on the rear. It has Painless wiring and electric windshield wipers. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. His asking price is $16,500.
1959 Edsel Ranger Hardtop
1959 was the last full year of production for the Edsel (although there were some models produced as 1960s.) Here is a 1959 Edsel Ranger 2-Door Hardtop for sale at Streetside Classics out of their Nashville store. The 1959 model was the only one that did not have the big horseshoe grille and a more conservative styling. It has the dual headlights and still had an interesting amount of chrome up front. This was the year that they tried to stress comfort and a smoother ride with coil over front suspension and leaf springs with shocks. This one has nice body panels and, based on the photos, has been well cared for. Note the panel gaps. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $19,995.
1948 Plymouth Coupe
A statuesque 1948 Plymouth P15-C Special Deluxe Club Coupe was just listed for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They tell us this car was restored in 1991 with many NOS parts sourced for the redo. Although the car takes a great photo, they do note that there is some hairline cracking in the paint and a few stone chips. You will note some pitting and glazing which you can see in the photos. The interior is also showing some wear, with bulbing in the headliner. In their test drive the Classic Auto Mall noted no problems with the performance. But they did say the wipers are not working. You should have it inspected before you buy. But the car looks good in the photos. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $19,000.
1965 Plymouth Valiant Convertible
Here is an excellent example of how the Plymouth Valiant saved Chrysler in the 1960’s and early 1970’s. This is a 1965 Plymouth Valiant Signet Convertible being offered for sale at Primo Classics International in Lakeland, Florida. It has the reliable 225 ci Slant 6 engine and an automatic transmission. Look at the photos. The body and panel gaps seem very tight. All the chrome up front looks like it is there and the body looks straight down the sides There are some problems with bubling just above the rear wheel wells. However, Primo tells us the interior is mint. Click here to watch a detailed walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is $12,900.
1974 MGB Roadster
The Classic Auto Mall also listed this Cosmic Blue 1974 MGB Roadster for sale this week. They say it still has a nice shine and comes with 14-inch wire wheels. The black canvas top is “newer” and has three plastic windows in the rear (see photos.) The Classic Auto Mall noted imperfections in their inspection, including rust bubbling, touched up and untouched chips, scratches, and peeling paint in a seam. There is surface rust on the undercarriage showing that it has been a daily driver. But in the test drive they said it starts with a pleasant exhaust note and is nimble on the road. They say it handles and stops quickly. There are a number of things that will need fixing. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $12,000.
1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster
Here is a rare one to find in our DEAL of the DAY feature. A 1970 Datsun Fairlady 1600 Roadster is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics in Nashville. These cars were extremely popular when they first arrived here in the U.S. from Japan. Road racers found them costsmpetitive at local venues around the country. This one is in its factory Sora Blue color with a 1600 cc engine and a lot of recent maintenance. Note the fresh crhome and trim. It is shifted on the console. They say it has a “newer” vinyl roof and plastic rear window. This car has seen a lot of attention with ceramic coated header, new gaskets, hoses, thermostat, fuel pump and a GM single-wire alternator. The clutch and throwout bearing have been rebuilt. The brakes have been redone. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is only $18,995.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
