Chevy Ushers in the ’60s
While the 1959 Chevrolet Impala had streamlined and tapered fins with cats eye tail lamps, the 1960 Impala was completely redesigned with a modern look. The expansive rear tailfins captured what Chevrolet would look like for years to come. The Impala had come of age.
This week a 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible was listed for sale by West Port Auto Center in Fenton, Missouri. This is the look that made Impala the dominant model of the 1960’s. No other model sold as many cars from 1960 to 1970 as Chevy’s Impala. And this car was ordered right. Roman red with a red and white houndstooth interior. They tell us it is a rust-free Arizona car which was the lucky recipient of a frame-off rotisserie restoration. Just look at the photos. They say the body is laser straight.
Under the hood is a 348 ci V8, the famous Chevrolet truck engine that some smart young engineer decided would work well as a factory hot rod mill. It is mated to a 2-speed automatic transmission.
The car has timeless appeal … just the right look to soothe the soul of a Chevy guy. There is something about this car that takes us right back to the ‘60s like we never left.

Classic Car News This Week
St Ignace Car Show
The big St Ignace Car Show is happening this weekend, June 26-28, 2025, in Upper Michigan with cruises over the Mackinac Bridge, a truly memorable event. They like to call it a “Big Time Car Show with Small Town Charm.” And that is exactly what it is. The downtown parade is on Friday evening and the “big show” is on Saturday when cars are lined up all through the downtown area. Cruise Night was Thursday.
You will find more great events such as this one when you read our Car Show Calendar of Events. You may even want to bookmark our Calendar and refer back to it every weekend. The July shows are coming up starting next week already. Don’t miss another big show in your area.
Real Super Sport Inspection
As the prices on 1966 through 1971 Chevelle Super Sports keep escalating, it becomes more and more important not to make a mistake on condition when buying one. Condition class determines value. An Iowa man wanted us to go half-way across the country to the West Coast to inspect a 1970 Chevelle SS which he wanted to buy. He was aware that the air conditioning was not working, but he wanted us to make sure the body panels were solid and gaps were tight. The inspector found that the air conditioning compressor was not locked up and the clutch turned freely. Although the body work was done nicely, he found bondo throughout the body. He also found some rust in the trunk due to leaks in the weather stripping. The paint had some scratches in it. The transmission was definitely not matching numbers. Overall, the Chevelle performed well and would be a fair Number Three driver. At least now the buyer knew what he was getting into.
Our newsletter readers know that you should always have a pre-purchase inspection done on a collector vehicle before you buy. There are no warranties on old cars, so it is buyer beware when purchasing a collector car. Click here to find out how to order a pre-purchase inspection and appraisal.
This Weeks Featured Stories
Real ’70 Chevelle SS
With so many tribute cars out there, it is rare today to get to see a real Super Sport Chevelle for sale, much less an award winner such as this one. MS Classic Cars in Massachusetts has just posted this 1970 Chevelle SS 396 for sale. They tell us it is one of the best factory restored examples ever offered at their shop. It is the result of a very high quality frame-off restoration with over 30 prestigious awards to its credit to date. It was featured in Muscle Car Review magazine and in the Generator Distributor magazine. It has the original VIN tag and trim tag, original build sheet, original dealer invoice, original NCRS shipping data report and original Protecto-plate. They say the Cranberry Red Chevelle has all of its original sheet metal. It has been certified by Chris White, a Chevelle expert restorer. Click here to watch a walk-around video inspection.
1956 Ford Skyliner
One of the most collectible classic Fords of all time came along just before the retractables were introduced. In 1954 through 1956 Ford built a Fairlane model they called the Skyliner. It was a Crown Victoria with an acrylic roof, the forerunner of the modern day sunroof. This 1956 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner is being offered for sale this week by the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. It is one of only 603 Skyliners produced by Ford in 1956. In the world of collectible Fords this is the top of the food chain in desirability. The Fiesta Red over Colonial White two-tone paint is haloed with the Crown Victoria “tiara” trim. To top it off, this one has the Continental kit and fender skirts. Aside from the surface rust on the dual exhaust system, the undercarriage looks solid and clean. Take a look at all the photos. You don’t want to miss this.
2006 Dodge SRT8 ?
Every once in a while we run across a custom build that is truly exceptional and deserves mention. This 2006 Dodge SRT8 Custom is such a car/truck. We don’t have exact info about what the builder was actually trying to achieve, but we congratulate him on his achievement. It has some nice bodywork, and the results work. He says he started with a nice Charger SRT8, cut it up and hand crafted the steel panels. He butt welded everything together and painted it with a glossy sheen and interesting graphics. Its salient feature is the covered bed. He says it runs and drives excellent. Call for more info. Erv says he invites your conversation.
Auctions
There are so many No Reserve cars showing up in the upcoming GAA Classic Auction inventory, that we thought we had better show you a few here. The No Reserve status of an auction vehicle means that the seller will have to sell the auction vehicle to the highest bidder. That is what makes the No Reserve auction so popular with buyers. Over 750 vehicles are set to cross the auction next month when the GAA Classic Summer Auction happens in Greensboro, North Carolina, July 24-26, 2025. We consider this auction to be the best barometer of what prices should be on these top end collector cars. Collectors should take notes. Classic car dealers from throughout the Southwestern U.S. will be on hand to buy special cars for their inventories. And countless more from all over the country will be buying online or over the phone. But the event is open to the public and anybody with a bidder’s registration can bid on these cars. Here are a few we will be watching closely.
1956 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible
One of the stellar show cars coming out of the Jimmy & Julianne Rawls Collection is a 1956 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire Convertible in a stunning color combination of red over black with a black top. It has the Rocket Olds 324 ci V8 engine, a Hydra-Matic 4-speed transmission and lots of power options, including power steering, power windows, power brakes and a power seat and power convertible top. What’s more, it has a Continental kit and fender skirts. For a collector, this combination is just perfect. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It is being offered at No Reserve during the GAA Classic Summer Auction this year. The sale will happen on Saturday, July 26.
1947 Oldsmobile 68 Woody Wagon
Click here to watch a walk-around video of this incredibly rare Oldsmobile Woody Wagon. It will be offered at No Reserve during the GAA Classic Summer Auction in Greensboro next month. Look at that wood trim and immaculate interior. It was a one-owner until 2006. They say it was purchased new in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is an unmatched example of a unique 1947 Oldsmobile 68 Woody Wagon. It has the 238 ci inline 6 cylinder Flathead engine mated to a Hydra-Matic transmission. Just look at that wood headliner in the photos. That is an elegant piece of historic coachbuilding.
1968 Shelby GT350 Convertible
There are three 1968 Shelby GT350’s being offered from the Jimmy & Julianne Rawls Collection. The Candy Apple red 1968 Shelby GT350 Convertible will be one of the featured cars to be sold at No Reserve on Saturday, the final day of the sale. All three Shelby Mustangs will be sold at No Reserve! That’s big!! This one comes with a Marti Report and a ton of documentation. The invoice from Shelby Automotive indicates a color change sometime in its life. It also shows power disc brakes, power steering, Select-O-Matic (auctomatic) transmission and tilt steering wheel. The Marti Report states that it was one of only 157 produced in this paint and trim. You can view the other two Shelby GT350’s in the link below.

1968 Mustang 428 Cobra Jet
Ok, this is one video you have to see. This 1968 Mustang 428 Cobra Jet can do some legit burn-outs. It is being offered for sale this week at No Reserve Classics in Green Brook, New Jersey. They have produced this incredible video, way over the top. They did their research and made it an historical and entertaining video documentary of the 428 Cobra Jets, which were born to race. Only 2,870 of these CJ’s were produced. Only 50 were 135 Series Cobra Jet lightweights with sports roof. This one won Best in Class at the Tasca Ford Mustang event in 2024.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1984 Corvette
When Chevrolet decided to retool for the C4 model Corvette, they skipped a year’s production to get the job done. When the C4 Corvette first emerged in 1984 it had big shoes to fill. The most popular color that year was Bright Red (no surprise.) Here is a Bright Red 1984 Corvette Coupe which has been specially preserved in honor of its heritage. It is being offered for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. In fact, they say it still has just 28,437 actual miles. It is now 40 years old, but still remains in pristine condition.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1993 Corvette, Classic Auto Mall, PA, 29,243 actual miles
1978 Ford Thunderbird, Orlando Classic Cars, 31,000 miles
1979 Ford Thunderbird, Orlando Classic Cars, 26,000 miles
You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.
Project Vehicles for Restoration
1969 Camaro RS Convt
A private party seller from Canada is selling his 1969 Camaro RS Convertible this week. He says it is a real big block Camaro with a 4-speed, just the way you like them. But it has one thing wrong. If you look at the photos you will see one picture of it on fire. Yes, and now it needs a full restoration. For the right buyer, though, this is a “diamond in the rough.” Fully restored it could sell for over $100,000. But you can buy it today for a quarter of that price. Money maker.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:
1973 AMC Javelin SST from Howard, OH
1958 Lincoln Continental Convertible, Classic Car Deals
1971 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster, Gullwing Motor Cars

Price Reduced
1969 Dodge Dart GTS
This scenario is a Mopar lovers dream come true. This week a Michigan collector dropped the price on his 1969 Dodge Dart 440 GTS. Only 640 factory built M-Code 440 GTS Darts were produced. The seller claims that this was the first one. It is the Pilot Car #52 as reported in the June 1969 issue of Drag Racing magazine. The car still has only 37,600 miles, according to the seller. He has dealer paperwork, window sticker and owner documents. It was decoded by Mopar expert Dave Wise. The seller was asking $149,000 when he first listed it. But just this week he dropped the price to $129,500. Now that’s the kind of car you read our newsletter for. You may not get a chance like this again in your lifetime.

Muscle Car Clones
1969 Corvette L88 Tribute
Someone must have really liked the historic Owens Corning #6 Corvette race car. It was an L88 powered Corvette 427, one of the 116 factory Corvettes that came with the legendary RPO L88 engine. This actual 1969 Corvette big block 427 Convertible has been restored as a tribute to the L88 which was raced at the 24 Hours of Lemans in Owens Corning livery. Built to RPO L88 specs, it is estimated to make 580 hp tuned for premium gas. It has a true 12:1 compression ratio, solid lifter. Make no mistake. This is a street legal racer.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:
1969 Camaro, REV Muscle Cars, COPO Camaro tribute
1961 Pontiac Catalina, Streetside Ft Worth, Super Duty 421
1965 Plymouth Belvedere II, Classic Auto Mall, 440 Tribute

Deals of the Day
1967 Mustang
Here is a 1967 Mustang Coupe that is not being presented to you here because it is “original,” but, rather, because it is a driver at a great price point. It has the 289 ci V8 and a 4-speed, true enough. It is in rather rough driver quality condition with paint that shows its age, and interior door panels that show wear. There are patches in the floor and radial tires which will need to be replaced soon. Brakes need attention and reverse lights are inop. The car is road worthy with good acceleration and cornering ability. Click here to watch a video inspection and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $14,900.
1954 Studebaker Conestoga Wagon
We come across one of these unusual classic station wagons once or twice a year. They are rare to find. It is a 1954 Studebaker Conestoga Wagon, built for two years at Studebaker as a tribute to the heritage of the company. Studebaker built pioneer wagons from the Civil War period on into the 20th Century. In 1954 they decided to make a classic station wagon with the Conestoga model name in tribute to those early days. It is a two-door wagon with an innovative two-piece tailgate/liftgate to access the cargo area. This one is being offered for sale this week by Haggle Me, an internet company that advertises on the internet for its clients. They say it runs great, and has a nice clean interior. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $14,900.
1946 Ford Super Deluxe
A 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe has just arrived at the Unique Classic Cars showroom in Mankato, Minnesota. This one comes with an 8 cylinder Flathead engine and a 3-speed transmission with a newer clutch. It still has the 6-volt power coil, but uses an 8 volt battery, and an electronic ignition. They say the chrome is original throughout. It has Reds headers, dual exhaust and Smitty mufflers. There is a lot of possibility here for the right buyer. As always, you should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $14,900. This will not be there long.
1966 Chrysler Imperial
In the mid-60s Chrysler was all about luxury and power. This 1966 Chrysler Imperial was their top-o-the-line model, the one you would buy for smooth and powerful boulevard cruising. Naturally, it has power steering and power brakes, but it also has creature comforts, as bucket seats, power windows, power seats, and even a power antenna. The wide whitewall tires float over the pavement, chrome accents gleaming in the sunlight. You can imagine it parked at the country club, can’t you? This one is being offered for sale by GearHead Classics in Texas. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. Their asking price is $19,999.
1998 BMW Z3 Roadster
When the BMW Z3 came out in 1996 shortly after it was featured in a James Bond movie, Golden Eye, it was actually manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was the first car to be manufactured by BMW outside of Germany. This one is a 1998 BMW Z3 Roadster in Alpineweiss (white) exterior with a beige interior. It is being offered for sale by the Classic Auto Mall. They tell us it was owned for 20 years by a consignor who kept it in the garage all the time. The 2.8 liter DOHC I6 provided spirited rides on the weekends. In a test drive, the Classic Auto Mall reported it has excellent acceleration, and that all the bells and whistles work. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $12,000.
1941 Ford Coupe
A private party seller from Florida has a 1941 Ford Coupe street rod for sale this week. Chopped 6” and frenched, it is a classic custom in every sense of the word. Look at the photos. You will see frenched Caddy taillights, louvered hood, 327 4-barrel, 350 tranny with shift kit, VDO gauges and electric windows and wipers. It has an aluminum radiator, stereo CD player, power antenna, power steering and power front disc brakes. The seller calls it a “driver, not a show car.” You should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. His asking price is $16,000.
1975 Triumph Spitfire 1500
The second owner of this orange 1975 Triumph Spitfire 1500 Roadster tells us this car is something special. He says it is a true British classic with only 25,388 original miles. He goes on to say that this little two-seater sports car is a true survivor. It still has its original paint, interior, chrome bumpers and wood dash. The engine is also original. Not only is it numbers matching, but he says it runs “great.” It has a 4-speed manual transmission for the maximum sporty ride. And he notes that it has been upgraded with an electronic ignition. He describes the condition as being “mechanically solid, and cosmetically preserved.” Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $11,495.
