Rare LHD Sports Car
A rare and desirable British sports car was listed for sale here on the Cars-On-Line.com website this week. Although more commonly found in the UK, a few of these rare British sports roadsters are known to exist here in the U.S. This is a 1949 Triumph 2000 Cabriolet, among the first offerings of a fledgling Triumph motorcar company after World War II. To compete with Jaguar, the Standard-Triumph company produced the Triumph 1800 roadster from 1946 through 1948 and then it morphed into the torquier Triumph 2000 Cabriolet for 1948-1949.
This week, a rare Left Hand Drive version of the 1949 Triumph 2000 Cabriolet was posted for sale in the Cars-On-Line.com Triumph Section. It is being offered for sale by Classic Car Deals, a Michigan based internet broker. What is significant in the design of the Triumph 1800 and 2000 Cabriolet was the addition of two jump seats in rumble seat fashion. They called it a Dickey seat. With that unusual configuration it has a flip up windshield for the Dickey seat, so they called it a “dual cowl” sports car (kind of a contradiction in terms?) The spare wheel was attached to the inside of the trunk lid. The look and feel of this unusual roadster has never been duplicated in any car design since.
The 2000 Cabriolet had a full synchromesh three-speed gearbox. Only 2,000 were built. There were about 300 of the 1800 and 2000 roadsters which were built for left hand drive. These are extremely rare to find today. Triumph can point to the 1800 and 2000 roadsters as the starting point for a company that would dominate the sports car market for decades. In the UK there are 85 of these roadsters still registered and in use. But here in the U.S. … ?
Most collectors have never seen a Triumph 2000 Cabriolet. So the value to a collector is inestimable.

Classic Car News This Week
RIP Brian Wilson
As the pages of time turn, this story hits our generation hard. It was announced by his family this week that songwriter and lead Beach Boy, Brian Wilson, had passed away. He was the heart and soul of the musical group the Beach Boys, who introduced the California life-style to a Baby Boom generation. Their tunes like “Little Deuce Coupe”, “409”, “In My Car”, and “Shut Down” fueled a car culture that was fundamental to growing up in the 1960’s. Their harmony on “Fun, Fun, Fun” brought a collective smile to the faces of a nation. They introduced us to surfing, hot rodding and Woody Wagons. In spite of all of his problems with drugs and mental illness, Brian Wilson was the “child genius” who wrote the songs. We will be teenagers forever through his music. Wilson was 82.
Back to the 50’s Weekend
Traditionally the Minnesota Street Rod Association’s Back to the ‘50s Weekend, June 20-22, 2025, is the biggest Car Show in the country. They will gather up to 12,000 hot rods, classic cars and muscle cars together on the massive Minnesota State Fairgrounds for the event. The streets inside the fairgrounds are so wide that they park cars along both sides of the streets. Then people pull their cars out and cruise along the center two lanes of the street to see the show. (Click here to view one of our videos from the cruise.) MSRA is the largest car club in the country and utilizes 2,000 volunteers to run the show.
The big Back to the ‘50s Weekend is just one of the many car shows happening in June 2025. It is the biggest month of the year for car shows. Find the top shows in the country when you read our Car Show Calendar of Events. Be sure to bookmark the COL Calendar to review upcoming car shows, auctions and cruises all around the country.

Arlen Ness Custom
From early-on in Cars-On-Line’s internet journey we were introduced to Arlen Ness at his California shop. He thought we should have some custom builds on our website, so he was an early lister on Cars-On-Line.com. Because of that we are always interested when one of his bike’s is available for sale. Classic Car Marketing in Southern California just posted this 2007 Arlen Ness Road King. It was featured in Hot Bike Magazine when it was first built. Included with the bike is an autogrpahed picture of the legendary Arlen Ness holding the fairing. The fairing is signed by Arlen, Cory and Zach Ness. They say the build was done “with the best of everything” at the time. It has an S&S 107-inch touring special engine, Baker 6-speed, Rolling Thunder frame and full Air Ride.
1955 Chevy Shorty Wagon
Get ready to do a double take when you see this 1955 Chevy Shorty Wagon in the ad photos. It is being offered for sale this week through Classic Car Deals, a Michigan based internet broker. Not only does it feature interesting custom body mods, it also will catch your eye because of the bold orange and blue paint job. They say the little shorty has a V8 engine and an old school style custom interior with original looking dash. Oh, yes, and it is guaranteed to draw a crowd at your next car show. Have it inspected to learn more about how it drives and handles. When you shorten a ride like this it matters how the drive shaft has been modified. Find out how it handles the road. This should be the next addition to your collection.

1966 Chevelle Convertible
Tom from MGM Classic Cars in Illinois brings you a video inspection of a beautiful 1966 Chevelle Convertible this week. This car is ready for your local car show. The silver Chevelle really looks good with its eye-popping red interior. This is not a real SS, but the visual effect is so amazing, it looks like a brand new car. The 396 big block engine compartment is unmatched in visual impact. This was a frame-off restoration done right.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1956 Ford Ranch Wagon
In 1956 Ford introduced its “Two Ford Family” sales pitch on TV, encouraging the suburban housewife to get out of the house and enjoy more freedom in her new 1956 Ford Ranch Wagon. You might say this Ford station wagon was the beginning of the “women’s lib” movement. This Arizona station wagon looks pretty sharp in the photos, but needs a new owner to finish the restoration. Contact the owner to find out what needs to be done. He says health issues are forcing him to sell. Station wagons are very popular at car show events. This may be your way to get into the collector car hobby on the cheap. Find out more when you call the phone number in the ad.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

Deals of the Day
2001 Camaro Convertible
A 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible was listed with 51,400 miles. It has the V-6 (3800) engine, automatic transmission, new tires, new top. The seller says he is the second owner, and has had the car since 2002. He is using Haggle Me, an internet broker, to represent him in the sale. They say it has always been garage kept. They say it is in “excellent condition.” I think the photos will verify that. As always, you should have it inspected before you buy. They can give you the VIN number to get a Carfax report, also. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $12,500.
1949 Ford F1 PIckup
The 1949 Ford F1 Pickup truck looks good in the photos, although it may be a bit of a project car. The internet broker advertising it says it is a solid truck, originally from Tennessee. Although it has an updated drivetrain (302 ci V8), it has an original frame and steering. The paint is amateur, but they say the body is in good shape. Most important, it runs and drives well. The odometer is about to turn over. It has an automatic transmission. They point out that it will make a good “starter car” for your collection. At any rate, it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $19,885.
1970 MGB GT
A private party owner from Beverly Hills, California has just listed his 1970 MGB GT sports car for sale. With a fixed roof and hatchback, it has more practical uses than a roadster, yet is still a sports car. It has a 4-speed transmission. The seller tells us it is in very good condition, with a new front suspension, and only 57,000 miles. He says it runs “great.” He notes two minor problems in the ad copy. But he also says there is “no rust at all. Garaged all of it’s life. I’ve owned the car for over 16 years,” he said. He added that all the electricals work, and it still has a very nice interior. He wants to sell it to someone who will enjoy it and give it a good home. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $14,000.
1977 VW Super Beetle Convt
A 1977 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible has been listed for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. They call it a “big” Beetle because the Super Beetles were extensively redesigned to be more powerful and more functional. This one is in Alpine white with a black canvas top which is in great shape, they tell us. In the rear is a 1585 cc flat four cylinder engine with a 1-barrel carburetor. The 48 ho powerrsepower spins the 4-speed manual transmission. There are drum brakes both front and rear. They say it fires up easily and delivers good power. There are some issues with the odometer and the reverse lights. You should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. Their asking price is only $15,000.
1959 MGA Roadster
Here is a 1959 MGA Roadster which really looks good in the photos. It is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. Take a look at the body and paint. There is an issue on the driver’s side with the door and quarter panel fitment. You should have a pre-purchase inspection done before you buy. The interior seats look good although there may be some issues with the door panels. It features a 4-speed manual transmission, inline four cylinder with side draft SU carbs, a convertible soft top and a tonneau cover is included. The top looks good in the photos. There are side curtains for cloudly days. It also has a trunk-mounted luggage rack. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. Their asking price is $16,750.
1999 Corvette Convertbile
Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota just got in this 1999 Corvette Convertible. Likely it won’t be there for long. It is Torch red with a red and black two-tone interior and video display. The transmission is an automatic with a console shifter. The engine is the LS1. It presents clean and sharp. Unique has not written a description on this one. They may never get to do that. It likely will sell this weekend. They record the mileage as 67,452 actual. You may have to click the button on their ad page to make a deposit to get a chance at this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is only $19,900.
1990 Chrysler TC by Maserati
Chrysler sent some Lebaron models to Italy for Maserati to perform their aftermarket magic on. These cars have a luxurious Palomino leather interior and faux woodgrain trim. They call it the TC. Gear Head Classics listed one of these unusual 1990 Chrysler TC by Maserati exotic cars for sale this week. It has a 7-inch video screen, removable hardtop and convertible soft top, air conditioning and factory alloy wheels. These cars were made to compete with the Mercedes SL.
