Jaguar Is Born
The Jaguar SS 100 is highly regarded as one of the most aesthetically pleasing and iconic sports cars of the 1930s. It holds a special place in automotive history and is considered a highly sought-after classic car. The Sport Saloon is praised for its beautiful lines, elegant design, and smooth, powerful acceleration. It was significant for its combination of a Weslake-developed overhead-valve engine and a shortened SS 1 chassis. Several recreations of the SS 100 have been produced by kit car companies. Only well regarded classic sports cars are esteemed enough to warrant replication.
A real deal 1937 Jaguar SS 100 Roadster was just listed by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. This right-hand-drive model is a rare one. It is one of only 198 2.5-liter inline 6 cylinder engine versions ever produced out of the Jaguar plant in Coventry, England. With SU carburetors and 18-inch wire wheels and knockoff spinners, it also has Smith & Sons instruments, dual exhaust, a louvered clamshell bonnet, Lucas headlights and fog lights, and a three-spoke steering wheel.
The SS 100 is celebrated for its sleek lines and distinctive design. The sweep of the long fenders and low slung body have iconic appeal accentuated by the classic wire wheels. It looks fast just standing still.
This gentleman’s sports car put Jaguar squarely on the map as one of the pre-imminent auto manufacturers in the world. At first it won recognition for its appearance, but soon won respect as a performer in road rallies and racing. The 100 referred to Jaguars claim that it would do a top speed of 100 miles per hour.
Beverly Hills Car Club tells us it was a West Coast car because of the California black plates. They say it is mechanically sound. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history, a chance which doesn’t present itself that often.

COL Inspection Service
When a Wisconsin collector wanted to know how much his 1950 Studebaker Champion Convertible was worth, he filled out our online form to have a pre-purchase inspection done on the vehicle. His purpose was to get it ready to sell, and he wanted to know what the value would be. Because it had some filler in the body and the finish had some chips and scratches, this car appraised out at a Class Three rating (the category where most vehicles fall into.) The filler was found in the usual places on these Studebakers. Overall the body was in good shape with no rust, and the driver quality repaint was a good match for the original Tulip Cream factory color. In its current condition it is a driver quality car, but a very rare one. It would be worth a full restoration. You can read the report to find out what we placed the value at.
It is a great idea to have your car appraised before you put it up for sale. We can help. Read some of our sample pre-purchase inspections at the Inspections Page today.
