Here Hemi, Hemi, Hemi
Mopar and Chevrolet experts can argue at length about whether the LS6 Chevelle SS 454 or the Plymouth Hemi Cuda was faster at the drag strip. A lot depends on who prepped the car and who was driving it. But there is no doubt that when GM decided to lift their ban on putting big block 454’s in their mid-size cars, the 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454/450 had the most powerful big block engine of the day. According to Classic Nation, the Chevelle LS6 was the more formidable competitor because of the massive amount of torque it could generate. The LS6 was said to produce 500 foot-pounds of torque at lower rpm’s.
That fact was reiterated this week when a 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 Hardtop Coupe was listed for sale by Verrillo Motor Car Company in New York. They say the Forest Green Chevelle Super Sport was the recipient of a detailed frame-off restoration. You can see in the photos that it has the D88 stripes with metallic Dark Green vinyl interior. Evidently the original LS6 big block engine didn’t last long in this original LS6 car because it was replaced under Chevrolet’s Counter Exchange program. It now has a ’71 dated 454 in its place. However, this car retains its factory installed heads, LS6 aluminum Winters intake manifold, engine pulleys and original dated fan blad and Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It also has the original M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed manual transmission. Out back is the factory 12-bolt rear differential with positraction.
As did all Chevelle SS LS6 cars, it comes with its factory F41 Performance Suspension, J50 Power Brakes, JL2 Front Disc Brakes, N40 Power Steering, and ZL2 Special Ducted Hood Air System (cowl Induction.)
Verrillo has posted a walk-around video so you can see it in detail and hear it run. Click here to watch this legendary muscle car video.
Fed by an 800-cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor on an aluminum manifold, the LS6 engine produced 450 horspower, the most powerful factory made motor available at the time. It created 11.25:1 compression with solid lifters, four-bolt mains, forged steel crank and connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and deep-groove pulleys. Factory LS6 Chevelles were known to do sub 14 second ET’s at over 100 mph. Tested by Super Stock and Drag Illustrated Magazine in 1969 and 1970, the solid lifter LS6 Chevelle ran a faster quarter-mile than a Hemi Road Runner by a little over one-tenth of a second. It could handle almost as well as a Camaro, and with the cowl induction hood it could breathe better than any other muscle car of its day.
Considering how rare these cars are, and how seldom they come up for sale, this one would be worth looking into as an investment.

Corvette ZR1 Indy Pace Car
The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was chosen to set the pace at this year’s 109th Indianpolis 500 Championship race on Sunday, May 25. The annual Memorial Day weekend race will be televised starting at 12:45 PM Eastern Time (actual race begins at about 12:30 PM) on Fox TV network, including streaming it on the Fox website and app. The pace car will be driven by TV personality and former NFL Hall of Fame great Michael Strahan. The ZR1 is said to have incredible acceleration, capable of achieving 233 mph, the highest top speed of any American made car. The Arctic White Corvette ZR1 has contrasting Emerald Green and gold Indy 500 logos, racing stripes and carbon fiber wheels. It produces 1,064 hp at 7,000 rpm with its 5.5L Twin Turbo V8, the most powerful Corvette engine to date. It is equipped with what Chevrolet is calling the Carbon Aero package, with underbody aero strakes, and a rear wing which they say will create up to 1,200 pounds of downforce at high speeds. With a car like that, Strahan might be tempted to try to win the race. Click here to view the unveiling video of the 2025 Corvette ZR1 Indy Pace Car as captured by CBS4 on YouTube. This will be the 22nd time in history that a Corvette has been the pace car at Indy.

Shakedown Challenger R/T
When Stellantis decided to stop production on the Dodge Challenger series to shift their emphasis to electric cars, that put an end to Mopar’s much celebrated retro muscle cars. That was in 2023. During the 2023 production year, there were seven “Last Call” special edition series of the Dodge Challenger beginning with the Shakedown Series. This week a private party seller from Canada listed his treasured 2023 Dodge Shakedown Challenger R/T Scat Pack which is one of only 500 produced in the final year. It was born to be collectible. He says this Shakedown edition has only 300 miles on it, in mint condition. It was ordered with a Plus Group Package, Dynamics Package, Carbon Suede interior package, Harmon Kardon Sound Group and the Shakedown Special Edition package. Only 1,000 Shakedown Challengers were made, 500 of which were Scat Pack editions all in Destroyer Grey finish. The other 500 were Widebody models which all came in Pitch Black.
Buick GS400 Stage 1 Convertible
It is rare to find a 1969 Buick Gran Sport 400 Stage 1 these days, and even more rare to find a Stage 1 convertible like this one. Cruisin Classics in Columbus, Ohio has this one in a very desirable color, #67 Burgundy Mist poly. Only 212 Gran Sport 400 convertibles were produced with Stage 1 equipment. The Stage 1 option included a 400 ci V8 with high lift camshaft, special carburetor, dual exhaust, and limited slip rear axle. When the TH400 automatic transmission was ordered it also included a higher shift point. Cruisin Classics tells us this car has a numbers matching engine, and factory air conditioning which has been retrofitted to R-134A. They say it blows cold. (Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run.) While many muscle cars are trending down in value, this GS400 is one that still has room to accelerate, depending on what you pay for it.
Rare Packard Hawk
For one year only, Studebaker-Packard produced a Packard version of the Studebaker Hawk. The 1958 Packard Hawk is so rare, only 588 examples were ever produced. This one was just listed by the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. To differentiate the Packard Hawk from the Studebaker Golden Hawk, the front valance was modified with a lower grille, the rear fins accentuated and a luxurious interior with leather was added. A simulated Continental kit was embedded in the trunk lid. The hood was modified to accommodate the engine. It had the Golden Hawk’s 289 V8 with McCulloch Supercharger. Power brakes were standard on the Packard Hawk. The recession durng 1958 hurt Packard and Studebaker sales. The last Packard came off the assembly line that year. So this model is extremely rare.
Auctions
We’re just about to jump on a plane heading for North Carlina to experience the Raleigh Classic Spring Auction, May 30-31, 2025. Cars-On-Line.com will be covering the event held at the Capitol Auto Auction facility in Youngsville, North Carolina. From past auctions we’ve covered there our readers know the Raleigh Classic is one of the best auctions to buy true low miles collector cars. Many of the top collector car dealers throughout the Southeastern states will be there. They say there will be over 300 choice vehicles in the sale. The Raleigh Classic takes pride in curating the best cars in the hobby for the two-day event. For example, here are a few we will be watching.
1958 Edsel Citation Convertible
The top-o-the-line model for Edsel in its second year was the 1958 Edsel Citation Convertible. The one you see here in Ember red with a Snow white rear valance and side sweep is scheduled to cross the auction block at the Raleigh Classic Spring Auction on Friday, May 30, 2025. What do you suppose it will sell for? It was part of the Terence E. Adderley collection, one of several Fords in that choice collection. Only 930 of these were built. It features Teletouch Drive and the Citation’s 345 horsepower 410 ci V8 engine. It is said to wear an older restoration.
1940 Ford Pickup
This is not an ordinary 1940 Ford Pickup. No, sir. The body was taken down to bare metal, and found to be in excellent condition. The bed is oak and finished in several coats of varnish. The vintage flathead was ported and it now features an Isky cam, Edelbrock hi-comp polished and aluminum heads, new Stromberg 97 carburetor, and 3.78 rear end. t even has an updated 12-volt system and new Stewart-Warner gauges. It will be offered for sale on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Raleigh Classic next week. It is an old school style custom truck.
1966 Buick GS400 Convertible
Without exaggeration, the Raleigh Classic says this is one of the finest examples of an original 1966 Buick Skylark GS400 Convertible to exist. The Blue Mist Buick has a light blue interior and black convertible top. It was owned by a lady from Denver for 36 years, and driven sparingly. They say it still has only 98,801 actual miles. It has original running gear, interior, carpet, sheet metal, chrome and glass. It was acquired by a prominent Buick collection in Indiana and has been shown at prestigious events. It has had one re-spray ink the original color. It will be one of the featured muscle cars at the Raleigh Classic next week on Saturday.

1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner
A rare 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner will be offered at the upcoming GAA Classic Auction in July. It will cross the auction block at No Reserve during the much anticipated sale in Greensboro, North Carolina. Click the video window above to review a walk-around tour of the unusual car. Note the panoramic sunroof, the first Detroit built car to have one. It also has the dealer demo plexiglass See-Thru hood showing off Ford’s Y-block overhead valve 239 ci V8 engine. The Y-block replaced the flathead, and Ford wanted people to see their newest design in Ford showrooms. The See-Thru hood was not available to the public. This car comes from the Jimmy & Julianne Rawls Collection to be sold at the GAA Classic Auction.

This is one of only 1,496 Commemorative Edition Sevilles. It is being consigned to Classic Auto Showplace from a Cadillac collection that only has rare and limited production cars. Project Vehicles for Restoration
1974 Maserati Bora 4.9
Because this 1974 Maserati Bora 4.9 is so very clean, solid and in good cosmetic condition, it is an interesting “fixer upper” for the right car lover. It may not need restoration, but it does have a seized engine. This is a rare chance to acquire the desirable 4.9-liter exotic sports car with Italian styling. From 1971 until 1978, Maseratie only produced 564 Boras, and only 275 of those had the 4.9 liter, four cam V8 with 300 hp. With a top speed of 170 mph it was one of the fastest cars of that era.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:
1955 Chevy 3100 Pickup from Charlotte, NC
1965 Porsche 356C 1600 Cabriolet, Beverly Hills Car Club, CA

2023 Challenger SRT Hellcat
The final year of production for the Dodge Challenger was 2023. So this 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Jailbreak was destined to be a collector car from the gitgo. When he listed the car for sale he was asking $165,000. But just this week he lowered the asking price to $125,000. That is quite a discount.

Muscle Car Clones
Corvette Mako Shark
In 1961 an experimental concept car was crafted by GM under Bill Mitchell. He called it the Mako Shark. It included features such as side pipes, tilt steering and a retractable rear spoiler. Although never released to the public, the Mako Shark inspired the design of the C3 Corvette. The Mako Shark concept was so popular that a Mako Shark kit was developed by Joe Silva and Joel Rosen of Baldwin-Motion fame. Here is a 1965 Corvette Mako Shark Convertible tribute to honor legend. It is being offered for sale this week at Streetside Classics out of their Nashville store.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

Deals of the Day
1966 Buick Wildcat Convertible
When the Buick Wildcat hit the showrooms in 1963 it was a game changer for the Buick line which had become the known as the car for an older demographic. The Wildcat was new and exciting, while holding to its luxury brand. So this 1966 Buick Wildcat Convertible is a highly sought after model for Buick collectors. It is being offered for sale this week at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They describe it as a “testament to the golden era of automotive design, combining elegance, power, and innovation …” It comes with a V8 engine, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust, a convertible top and 15-inch wheels. They say it has had considerable upkeep, so service records come with the sale. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $19,750.
19523 Ford Model T Runabout
Since the 1923 Ford Model T Runabout might have been considered the “hot rod” of an early period, this example has had some interesting upkeep. It is being advertised for sale by the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania this week. They tell us this car was restored at Petty’s Garage, the shop run by legendary NASCAR drive Richard Petty. And they say he actually worked on this car himself. That’s why he autographed it. Look at the photos and you will see a “show ready” engine compartment featuring a 177 ci L-head inline 4 cylinder with a single barrel carburetor. They say it provides 22 horsepower to the rear wheels through a 2-speed planetary transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is affordable at $19,000.
1921 Dodge Brothers Touring
The Classic Auto Mall also listed a rare 1921 Dodge Brothers Touring Sedan for sale this week. They tell us it show 5,398 miles, although there is no documentation for the miles. They say the current owner has had the car since 1999, and he drove it 35 miles to the Classic Auto Mall to display it there. He says it is “an excellent parade car that runs and drives well.” The vintage sputtering of the engine is “music to the ears of any antique car lover.” They tell us it functions as it should. It has mechanical drum brakes on the rear wheels only. The 212 ci L-head 4 cylinder engine is rated at 24 horsepower. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $16,000.
1940 Plymouth P9
They are only original once. This 1940 Plymouth P9 Road King is a representation of the past. It remains a survivor, never having been restored. And it is still solid and well-preserved after 85 years. A classic car dealer called Rare Rides has it for sale this week in Statesville, North Carolina. It has the 201 ci inline 6 cylinder engine, 3-speed on the column, and it is believed to have its orignal paint from the factory. A 12-volt electrical conversion has been done to improve reliability. The tan cloth interior has also been reupholstered. Because it is a survivor you will see cracks, chips and scratches in the lacquer. Some gauges and lights are inoperable because of the 12-volt conversion. However they say it starts and runs smoothly. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. The asking price is $11,000.
1941 Ford Tudor Deluxe
Wow! This is such a great price. A 1941 Ford Tudor Deluxe was just listed for sale in our Ford Section online. These pre-war ‘41s are so rare. It is being offered for sale at Showdown Auto in Fraser, Michigan. They say it is “a great running car ready to drive and enjoy.” It has a Flathead V8, 3-speed manual transmission, steel wheels with chrome caps and white wall tires. Note the nice chrome bumpers, new heater core, 2-way roll-down rear windows and dual exhaust with chrome tips. Interestingly it has a push button start with choke. Even the parking brake works. The seller notes that the windshield has a crack in the lower corner, and the wipers are not working. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week (if it lasts that long.) The asking price is $12,900.
2021 NASCAR Toyota Camry
For the race car collector, here is an opportunity to own a real NASCAR roller. The 2021 Toyota Camry NASCAR roller can easily be a high speed oval car or road coarse nostalgia racer (depending on how you prep it.) It is being offered for sale by Garage Kept Motors in Grand Rapids, Michigan this week. They disclaim that it comes with “no drivetrain or fuel cell.” The chassis number shows it to be a Michael Waltrip Racing chassis (MWR.) The body is in #11 livery to appear as a Denny Hamlin #11 car in 2021 livery for the October race at Texas Speedway that year. They say that they were told it was used in NASCAR but no documenteation comes with the car. It has ISP race seat and steering wheel, complete steering assembly 4-wheel disc brakes and clutch and brakes assembly. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $19,900.
2007 Saturn Sky Redline
In an era when two-seater sports cars were a hot trend in the automotive market there were several that made an impact from the Pontiac Solstice to the BMW Z3 and the Saturn Sky. Out of all of them the Saturn sports car seems the rarest. Here is a 2007 Saturn Sky Redline Edition, the most powerful and rare of them all. The Redline’s high performance 260 horsepower turbo engine was comparable to a Mustang V8. This one is being offered for sale by Primo Classics International out of Lakeland, Florida. The Solar Yellow Sky has black leather interior and is said to have just 37,139 miles. It has a contrasting black convertible top. Be sure to check it out. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. They are asking $14,900. Hurry!
