The Boss 9 Story
When a car is this rare, a “cost-is-no-object” restoration is expected. This 1969 Boss 429 Mustang was the subject of a recent nut-n-bolt restoration to concours condition. It might be considered a trailer queen since only test miles have been put on the car since its redo. It is being offered for sale this week at Legendary Motorcar Company one of the world’s best known muscle car emporiums. They tell us the quality of the restoration work is absolutely incredible. They claim this build is the equivalent of an “automotive work of art.”
There were only 857 Boss 429’s built in 1969. That was the first year of its homologation for NASCAR competition. NASCAR required that the engine be used in a factory production car in order for it to compete in NASCAR races. Ford decided that the big block Semi Hemi engine would sell better in the Mustang for the young muscle car buyer, although they were campaigned in Ford Torinos in actual NASCAR competition.
This elite group of cars were given a special NASCAR identification “KK” number when converted to Boss 9’s by Kar Kraft in Michigan. Kar Kraft had the job of modifying the body and suspension on the Mustangs to accomodate the huge Boss 9 engine. Kar Kraft also added a Toploader 4-speed transmission, an engine oil cooler, a trunk-mounted battery, 9-inch Traction-Lok rear end, and competition suspension with front and rear anti-roll bars, and staggered rear shocks.
It comes with the standard Boss 429 items such as the Drag Pack option with “V” code 391 Traction Lok 9-inch rear end, competition suspension, functional front air spoiler, air gulping hood scoop, trunk mounted battery, electric clock, power front disc brakes, tach, console and Rimblow deluxe steering wheel.
Affectionately known as a Boss 9, this Semi Hemi big block Ford motor was perfect for stock car racing because it could achieve peak power at lower rpms. The racing 7.0-liter version had a forged steel crankshaft and steel connecting rods.
This Boss 9 comes with a Marti Report documenting the original equipment and all the hard-to-duplicate items. A car that is more desirable and has as much provenance as this one would be hard to find.

More of the amazing inventory for the WorldWide Auctioneers Enthusiast Auction was disclosed this week. What an amazing selection of classic and collector cars this is! Evidence of that is this rare and desirable 1954 Kaiser Darrin Roadster which will cross the auction block at No Reserve on Saturday, April 16, 2025 in Auburn, Indiana during the Enthusiast Auction. They report that a restoration was done on this unique marque at a cost of over $100,000. It is a 2021 AACA National First Place award winner. They only produced 435 of these unique roadsters. Find out more about bidding online when you read the story about the WorldWide Auctioneers auction in the story above.
Dodge Power Wagon
There is a great respect in the collector car community for post WWII era Dodge Power Wagons. These massive 4-wheel drive vehicles continued to be built by Dodge after the war in civilian versions. That same WWII body style continues to be popular to this day. This week a 1947 Dodge Power Wagon WM 300 was listed by Unique Classic Cars out of Makato, Minnesota. What a find! It has a 230 I6 engine and 4-speed manual transmission. Since it just arrived at Unique’s facility they did not have the description posted online at the time of this publishing. Call them for more information. But hurry! This popular classic 4-wheel-drive vehicle will be sold quickly at their price point.
Auctions

The big Spring Carlisle Car Show and Flea Market is coming up next week in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. That means we are just a week away from the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Auction at the Expo Center across from the fairgrounds. This year the auction will be held on April 24-25, 2025. Our newsletter readers have been seeing many of the top cars and trucks featured here in the newsletter recently. Here are a few of the vehicles they have posted on our website to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
1969 Dodge Charger RT/SE
A black 1969 Dodge Charger RT/SE is one of the showcase cars to be sold at the upcoming Spring Carlisle Auction in Pennsylvania next week. They say it has a matching umbers 440 completely rebuilt, plus a matching numbers 727 automatic transmission. It is the product of a rotisserie restoration with Legendary interior in the original colors. You will note the Budnick wheels, and it has an 8 ¾ Suregrip rear end with Mosier axles. The vinyl top is really sharp. It has Dakota Digital analog dash, and the original “thumb wheel” radio.
1993 Dodge Viper
The early 1st Generation Dodge Vipers are getting to be hot collector cars already. A rare 1993 Dodge Viper will cross the auction block this year at the Spring Carlisle Auction. It is one of the rare “rear antenna” cars. Because it is a ’92 model it has the vinyl windows and top. They say the car has been serviced and brought up to date by Hawk Performance in Bath, Pennsylvania, one of the top Viper shops in the country. They say it is one of the cleanest Gen1’s you will see. Mostly stock, it does have a 3.55 rear end and aftermarket mufflers. The original wheels will come with the car.
1960 Corvette Fuelie
Here is a rare one. There is a 1960 Corvette Fuelie Convertible in the aution inventory for the upcoming Spring Carlisle Auction next week. The Carlisle people tell us it is VIN 0002, the second car off the line. According to the story, it was Zora Duntov’s test mule to check out aluminum heads with a Rochester Fuel Injected engine. It has a 283 V8 with lightweight heads which were never offered on production cars that year. The Corvette shows an original frame with chassis number present, plus the CZ suffix 283/315 hp V8 with Rochester fuel injection. It has a 4-speed manual transmission, finned valve covers and a 7,000 rpm tach. They say the Corvette underwent a meticulous restoration with only 5 miles since. What an historic find!

1968 Pontiac Beaumont SD
Southern Motors in Michigan just listed a very rare muscle car, a 1968 Pontiac Beaumont SD. General Motors had to produce a completely Canadian product to sell on the Canadian market to comply with the Auto Pact (APTA) which restricted certain U.S. vehicles from being sold in Canada. So they produced a separate model called the Acadian Beaumont under the Pontiac model. The Beaumont was essentially a Chevelle SS with Pontiac special trim. This rare Tripoli Turquoise metallic Beaumont with the SD stripe is one of the nicest ones we’ve seen. The 18” and 20” Ridler wheels are an aftermarket add-on. Click the video window above for an interesting walk-around inspection.

Deals of the Day
1972 Dodge Charger SE
It is not often that we a street machine In the DEAL of the DAY so let’s take a good look at this one. The 1972 Dodge Charger SE comes with custom flamed exterior. It almost qualifies as a pro street since it has wheelie bars, but no roll bar. It is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. The custom interior is too nice to be a race car, though. It looks as though it was designed to be a custom street machine with a Dyer supercharged V8 fed by two Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors. The dual Dyer shotgun blowers protrude from the hood like a pro street. You will notice a few imperfections in the photos. But this is a lotta’ car for the money. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $29,950.
1937 Ford Model 74
The 1937 Ford was the first year of one of Ford’s most popular automotive designs featuring the teardrop headlamps. GearHead Classics in Texas just listed this rare 1937 Ford Model 74 Tudor, which they say has just 1,993 miles on the odometer. Equipped with a 2.2L V8 engine, this blue Ford is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Look at the photos of the interior. They are only original once. The brown cloth bench seat and classic Banjo steering wheel add a touch of charm. It looks like it still has the factory radio (which no longer works.) Not classic Ford would be complete without the 16-inch military wheels wrapped in white wall tires. This historic car will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. They are asking $16,999.
1964 Chrysler 300
A Wisconsin collector says he sourced this 1964 Chrysler 300 from the West Coast. This is the special Silver Edition Chrysler 300. The Silver edition was only offered on 2-door hardtops and had special trim, including metallic silver paint, black vinyl canopy roof insert and a black interior with bucket seats. The Silver edition was only made available in the second half of the 1964 sales year. They had to be special ordered. It comes with a 383 ci V8 engine and 727 push button automatic transmission. Holley EFI Sniper injection has been added, along with headers. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The seller is asking $13,500.
1958 Chevrolet Bel Air
GearHead Classics also listed an interesting 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-Door sedan for sale this week. Nicely priced, it has a clean and classic appearance with nice two-tone paint. Dripping in chrome, the body and trim look good in the pictures. Under the hood you will find a 283 ci V8 matched with a Powerglide automatic transmission. GearHead describes it as “smooth and classy.” Wide whitewall tires complete the look. The Bel Air was the first to ride on the new X-frame chassis. The big car has power steering and power brakes. Click here to view a walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. They are asking $24,999.
1965 Ford Galaxie
Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa listed this 1965 Ford Galaxie for sale this week. Ford’s Galaxie shows a popular body style for the mid-1960’s. Coyote Classics thinks the engine is a 390 big block with a 4-barrel carburetor and Ford 9” rear end. The red Galaxie has power steering and power brakes with a “stroh they say ng sounding dual exhaust.” This is a driver quality classic that could use some interior work, they tell us. Click here to watch a walk-around inspection which shows some wear. But they say the body looks straight and the undercarriage seems solid (see photos on the ad page.) It will be the DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. Their asking price is $22,995.
1985 Pontiac Fiero GT
Here is a first-year 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT sports car for sale. It was the first time Pontiac offered a mid-engine production car, and they were the first U.S. auto manufacturer to produce one. With a V6 engine the GT version represented a marked performance upgrade. Its special suspension enhanced the handling. This one is being offered for sale this week at Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina. They note that the GT has the “aero” nose trim, a wing and extended rocker panels, greatly improving the appearance over the standard Fiero. Click here to watch their walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. Their asking price is $18,995

1978 Datsun 280Z
The Gen-X’ers are defining their tastes in old cars, and they have a little different view of the collector car hobby. They seem to like cars such as this 1978 Datsun 280Z. That’s what the surveys suggest at least. These are fuel injected sports cars, a Japanese version of the Corvette. This week Cruisin Classics out of Columbus, Ohio listed a special 280Z with a known history. It was cared for and updated methodically by its former owners (read the history on their ad page.) They say it runs and drives excellent. Click here to view a walk-around video and hear it run. They say it still has just 31,000 miles. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week.
