Pierce-Arrow’s Finale
The legendary Pierce-Arrow motorcar represented luxury, innovation and craftsmanship in an era when automobile manufacturing was changing American lifestyles. Pierce-Arrow’s signature feature was first seen in 1913 when Herbert M. Dawley patented the iconic Pierce-Arrow headlight which integrated headamps into the front fenders. That simple innovation was never before seen in the early 20th Century, and became a feature that was exclusively available on Pierce-Arrow automobiles. It was so imitated by motorcar manufacturers that it would become commonplace by 1940.
As Pierce-Arrow earned its way out of bankruptcy in 1935, after the Great Depression, it used its good name to re-emerge as one of the top brands in luxury car manufacturing, to compete with Cadillac, Lincoln and Packard for 1936. Indeed, the 1936 Pierce-Arrow motorcars are regarded as some of the finest that they had ever produced. Unfortunately, the American new car buyer was not buying big luxury cars in the same numbers as they had in earlier times. Pierce-Arrow only sold 787 vehicles in 1936. Although it was the swan song for a great car company, those cars are coveted by classic car collectors today.
This week a 1936 Pierce-Arrow Deluxe 8 Convertible Sedan was listed for sale by Ellingson Motorcars in Rogers, Minnesota. They say this highly treasured example has been refinished in Parrot Blue, while the interior was reupholstered in matching light blue leather in a period correct pattern. Grey wilton wool carpeting beautifully covers the flooring of the front and rear passenger compartments. With a beautiful Hartz cloth top, this correct classic convertible sedan is a masterful representation of bygone years. Ellingson Motorcars tells us it is deemed a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America which makes it eligible for CCCA events and CCCA CARavans. A detailed account of the condition is included in the sales description at the link. The odometer reads 30,989 miles. Click here to watch a video history lesson, walk-around video and hear it start up.
If you are a Classic Car Club of American member, here is an excellent choice for your collection. If you are not a CCCA member, here is your entry ticket.

Classic Car News This Week
Tariffs and Collector Cars
Magneto Magazine, an online news portal dedicated to the classic car hobby, reported yesterday that the Trump Tariffs on imported cars and auto parts could have an unintended impact on car collectors. An executive order announced by President Trump implies a sweeping tariff of 25 percent on cars and car parts coming into the U.S. If this goes into effect on April 2 as the president has warned, it will effect the flow of collector cars into the U.S. Since 2020, the importation of classic cars into the U.S. has actually outpaced new car shipments into the country, according to Hagerty, the insurance company which insures collector cars (that does not include transports from Mexico or Canada.) Magneto says that if you buy a car from overseas you will pay the current 2.5 percent to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. If the Trump Tariffs are imposed in April, you will pay an additional 25 percent of the sales price. On a $100,000 car, the tariff could be $27,500 to get it into this country. And that would effect cars that are already in transit. Classic auto parts are in the same boat (no pun intended.) Magneto says the UK’s Historic & Classic Vehicles Alliance (HCVA) is lobbying on behalf of classic car dealers in Europe to have the tariffs removed from collector vehicles. Of course, no one really knows if the tariffs will go into effect, or if the pressure on European governments will reduce tariffs on U.S. goods sold there. Trump could then reciprocate here. Good and good. Click here to read the article in Magneto.
COPO Camaro at Auction
Worldwide Auctioneers announced that they will be selling a 1969 COPO Camaro at their annual Enthusiast Auction coming up April 25-26, 2025 in Auburn, Indiana. This is a rare one because it is what is termed a “Double COPO.” It has both the COPO 9561 L72 427 big-block engine, and the COPO 9737 Sports Car Conversion Package with a special suspension, power front disc brakes, and a 12-bolt posi rearend and 4.10 gears. It was inspected and certified authentic by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish, who says it is numbers matching. To add to that, this Camaro COPO is one of just 45 that were sold by the legendary Berger Chevrolet in Michigan. Find more about the Enthusiast Auction when you read our Cars-On-Line Events Calendar online.

1957 Oldsmobile Super 88
Collectors know that the most significant technology in 1957 was the advent of the triple carburetor setup on the elite models of Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. When Oldsmobile came out with what is known as the J2 engine with three 2-barrel carburetors on top of the 371 ci V8 engine, they thought it would be very competitive in NASCAR racing. Bill Francis took one look at the Oldsmobiles running the J2 carbs and banned them from NASCAR before they even entered one race. Here is a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible just posted for sale at Vanguard Motor Sales in Michigan. We don’t know the exact number of Super 88’s that came with the J2 but experts believe they are more rare than the Starfire 98 Oldsmobiles similarly equipped. This one is a collectors dream car. Watch the walk-around video and take it for a video test drive.
1951 Jaguar XK120
Although Jaguar made popular gentleman’s sports cars prior to World War II, the name brand really took off when American’s started racing the XK120 roadsters beginning in the 1950’s. The original movie “The Fast & the Furious” circa 1954 put the XK120 on the big screen for generations to aspire to. It was the fastest production car in its time. Here is a 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster just posted for sale by Motorcar Classics on Long Island. Jaguar produced 699 left-hand-drive versions mostly for the U.S. market (while only 434 RHD for Europe.) This is one of them. The elegant styling and incredible performance was inspiring for the post-War world.
1953 Allard K3 Roadster
Again this week, Gullwing Motor Cars in New York has listed a rare Allard sports roadster for sale. This 1953 Allard K3 Roadster is extremely original, they say. It is being offered from a large private collection from the Netherlands. European buyers will experience a significant price discount if they pick the car up there. The car has been in storage and is currently not running. However, the seller claims it would not take much to bring it back to its original glory. He says it is complete and intact. The potential here is inestimable. It could be a great choice for events such as the Colorado Grand, Copperstate 1000 or other road events in the U.S. It is a wonderful find, and a great addition to any high end collection.
Auctions
Mark your calendars for the Spring Carlisle Car Show and Flea Market in historic Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It is one of the oldest and most respected collector car events in the country. One of the best parts of this great car show is the Spring Carlisle Auction at the Expo Center across from the fairgrounds. This year the auction will be held on April 24-25, 2025. Here are a few of the vehicles they have just posted on our website to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Split Window Fuelie
One of the cars every Corvette collector will drool over is this Tuxedo Black 1963 Corvette Split Window Fuelie Coupe. Wow! This is an NCRS Top Flight winner and Silver Certified by the National Corvette Certification Board. It has the original numbers matching 327 RF Code Fuel Injected V8 factory rated at 360 horsepower. And it has the numbers matching original 4-speed manual transmission. The Carlisle people tell us that “not only is the driveline original, but all the major engine accessories have been verified as original.” The last owner had the car for 37 years. The title history proves the miles to be original. A copy of the window sticker comes with the car. And it has the correct 4.11 Posi rear end. It will be one of the Showcase Cars at this year’s Spring Carlisle Auction.
1955 Chevrolet 2-Door Wagon
A beautiful restoration was done on this 1955 Chevrolet 2-Door Station Wagon with mild custom updates. The Brown/Beige custom paint looks great in the photos at the link. It has a 350 ci V8 small block engine and an automatic transmission. It is also updated with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. What’s more the Carlisle people say it runs and drives great. From the photos you can see that the matching two-tone interior is in beautiful condition with leather seats. The chrome is in beautiful condition. It is an outstanding example of the classic 1950’s cars you will find at the Spring Carlisle Auction.
Chevrolet 454SS Pickup
Carlisle Auctions are famous for their “Truck Hour” deals. One of the trucks which will draw a lot of attention is this 1990 Chevrolet 454SS C-1500 Silverado. The black Silverado pickup comes with a maroon interior. It has the very desirable 454 SS 7.4L V8 engine, a muscle car type big block. The collector value can’t be overstated. Carlisle tells us this is a highly original example with only 9,621 miles. In 1990, there were only 13,000 produced of this special edition pickup. Look at all the photos at the link. It will be sold to the highest bidder during “Truck Hour” at the Spring Carlisle Auction in April.
You can review all of the consignments so far for the Spring Carlisle Auction at this link. More vehicles are being consigned every day. They do not charge you if the vehicle doesn’t sell. That is Carlisle’s FREE UNLESS SOLD GUARANTEE. All fees are refunded if the vehicle does not sell.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1963 Buick Riviera
When Buick came out with the Riviera in 1963 it was a game changer for American new car buyers. A hint of European elegance combined with good ole U.S. performance gave it a maturity that both executive types and Yuppies could warm up to. The Last Detail, a Chicago based classic car dealer, just listed this 1963 Buick Riviera for sale this week. They call it a “stunning, exceptionally original survivor” with only 30k original miles. It is seen here in Regal Black finish with the original black leather interior which was only available that first year. It has the optional 425 ci Wildcat engine and a Super Turbine automatic transmission. They tell us it has been inspected, serviced and is turnkey ready. Click here to view a walk-around video.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1955 Corvette Restoration
A Texas collector already has much of the hard work done on this 1955 Corvette project car. He has listed it for sale this week. He says it is numbers matching with a Texas title and VIN plate. He says he also has about 95 percent of the parts needed to complete the car. He says this could be an NCRS restoration. It has a nice body in primer, very clean frame and rolling chassis, and numbers matching block (# 3702524), numbers matching rebuilt heads (# 3703523), and rebuilt Carter carburetor. He also has some “impossible to find” parts to go with. How much would it be worth if it were completely restored?

1936 Ford Roadster
All steel street rods are the mark of excellence in the collector car hobby. And when they look all original but perform like a Swiss clock, that’s when the collector juices get stirred. A 1936 Ford Roadster was listed for sale some time ago that has its original Henry Ford steel still intact. The Wisconsin owner says it is one of the best driving roadsters you will find with an all-Corvette aluminum drivetrain, 4-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, fuel injected, new retro interior and a Hartz cloth top. When it was first listed he was asking $75,000. But just this week he dropped the price to $57,000. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
