Pacing the Market
The 1969 Camaro body style has the most desirable and iconic look of any Chevrolet muscle car in history. No other Camaro stirs the sole of a Chevy collector as the ’69. And our newsletter readers know that the top of the food chain for ’69 Camaros is the Z/28 RS and the Indy Pace Car. It has been a while since we’ve had a Pace Car for sale on the Cars-On-Line website. The collectors who own them are not selling, it seems. But this week Beverly Hills Car Club has a nice example that they are selling for way under its average value. Do you have the phone in your hand yet?
They say this 1969 Camaro Z11 RS/SS Pace Car is “mechanically sound” and will catch your eye with its Pace Car graphics. (You can see dozens of detailed photos at the link.) Although the original engine is gone, it is now powered by a 383 stroker motor that surpasses even the big block versions of the factory cars that actually paced the Indianapolis 500 back in the day. An automatic transmission and Edelbrock AV2 carburetor complete the drivetrain. Additional equipment includes power steering, dual exhaust outlets, front-wheel disc brakes, SS badging, wood steering wheel, wood dash, chrome bumpers, rally wheels, and a fender-mounted antenna. It also features the orange Houndstooth interior only available on the Pace Car edition.
The timeless attraction of the ’69 Camaro was never more appealing than in this Pace Car package. And it will be a while before you find another this nice at this price point.

Mecum Auction Wrapup
The Kissimmee Auction by Mecum just ended in Florida and Wow! was it ever a big show! For 13 days the auctioneer’s chant rang through the hall at the Osceola Heritage Park where Mecum’s biggest auction is held every year. Our automotive historian, Bob Boberg, was there with his camera to record the event. Ten vehicles sold for over $1 million apiece. This 1966 Ford GT40 road racer topped the docket being sold for $7,040,000. Our readers will be interested to note that a 1967 Corvette L88 Coupe sold for $2,500,000, and a 1967 Corvette L89 Coupe sold for $1,705,000. A 1957 Mercedes-Benz Gullwing 300SL also sold for $1,485,000. For a detailed report on the top cars sold at the Mecum Auction last week follow this link to the story on eClassicAutos.com.

1953 Nash Healey Roadster
There is a lot of “todo” made over which American two-seater sports roadster was the first to hit the new car market back in the day. Some say it was the Corvette, and some say it was the Kaiser Darrin. But we think the actual first American made two-seater sports car was the 1953 Nash Healey Roadster. This week, Gullwing Motor Cars in New York listed this classic sports car for sale. It is in better shape than most of them we’ve seen. The reason these Nash Healeys are not considered to be the first American made two-seater is that they were bodied by Pinin Farina in Italy and designed by Austin Healey in the UK. But they were for sale here in the U.S. They only built 150 of these rare sports roadsters, making them the ultimate sports car to collect. They say this one has a numbers matching engine block. You can still buy it for a reasonable price. Get one before they show up on the collector radar.
1965 Backdraft Cobra RT4
Something is happening at Earth Motorcars in Carrollton, Texas. The Dallas suburb seems to be a hub for finding Backdraft Cobra replicas these days. This week they listed a bevy of them for sale. This Race red 1965 Backdraft Cobra is an RT4 build with the iconic 427 boasting 480 horsepower. It is referred to as the Black Edition 427. It matches up with a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission. It has black leather interior and the RT4 chassis which is a little longer. It also has the popular carbon dash. The wheels are 18-inch and it also features ceramic coated headers. Find more like this below in the Replicas Section of this newsletter. You may note that all of these replicas have been inspected and they are ready to enjoy.
Chevelles Are Hot!
Have you noticed how fast 1970 through 1972 Chevelle Super Sports have been selling lately. Is this a sign that the spring classic car market is already in play? Several of the SS Chevelles that were just posted this week were already SOLD when we published this newsletter today. What’s going on? With the big Barrett-Jackson Auction on now and Mecum Kissimmee Auction just ending there seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for classic muscle cars. So we scoured our Chevelle Section today to find the best deal on a true Super Sport Chevelle. This 1970 Chevelle SS 396/350 from Colorado is one you should check out. It is being offered for sale by WeBe Autos on their website this week. They say it comes with a build sheet and Protect-O-Plate so you can verify whether its real or not. It was featured in a Kid Rock video which is linked in the ad. Click here to watch a walk-around video done by the private owner. The price will surprise you.
Auctions
It is hard to believe that the Lakeland Winter Auction 2025 is coming up in just two weeks already. The 2025 collector car selling season is upon us with spring just around the corner. The Carlisle Auctions company is returning to Lakeland, Florida this year for the Lakeland Winter Auction 2025. They are excited to be taking consignments for the auction at this time, and our readers will want to stay tuned to their auction inventory in our listings. We expect about 400+ vehicles to cross the auction floor at the Sun N Fun Expo in Lakeland, February 7-8, 2025. Their auction inventory is on the Cars-On-Line website now. Click here to view some of their inventory.
1957 Cadillac Eldorado Seville
This Copper Metallic ’57 Cadillac Eldorado Seville is an elegant example. A rare Seville hardtop, one of only 2,100 produced in 1957, it is, in fact, one of only 12 that came in Copper Metallic paint from the factory. It also has a brown padded vinyl roof, way ahead of its time. The gold emblems give it a high profile look. Under the hood is a 365/325 hp V8 engine, and it comes with power steering, power brakes, power seats and power windows. It will be one of the featured classic Cadillacs to be offered at this year’s Lakeland Winter Auction in Lakeland, Florida. It is the subject of a frame-off restoration.
1964 Ford Thunderbolt Tribute
We are impressed with the number of muscle cars being added to the Lakeland Winter Auction inventory. This 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 Thunderbolt tribute is an excellent example. This Thunderbolt reproduction is well known in the collector community. It has an actual 427 side oiler engine mated to a Doug Nash 5-speed manual transmission as well as 9-inch rearend. It is said to have original paint and original interior. Fittingly, it will cross the auction block at the auction as Lot # 427. What do you think it will sell for?
Porsche 911 Turbo
There are also some interesting exotic sports cars to be offered for sale at this year’s Lakeland Winter Auction in Lakeland, Florida, February 7-8, 2025. One of them is a desirable 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe which was just serviced and has a clean Carfax. It is powered by a 3.8L Twin Turbo V6 engine mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The stunning metallic Silver exterior is an iconic Porsche look, and they say this one is in “spotless condition.” It comes with the Sport Chrono option and new tires.

1968 Mustang Fastback 428CJ
They say this 1968 Mustang Fastback is a 1 of 1, super rare because it came from the factory with a 428 R Code motor. The Raven black original Fastback is being offered for sale this week at No Reserve Classics in Green Brook, New Jersey. Only a limited number of these high-performance fastbacks were produced, and even fewer were equipped with this striking color combination, making this a highly coveted collector’s item.
