AMC’s Best Muscle Car
When the 1970 AMC Rebel Machine was introduced during the 1969 NHRA Nationals in Dallas, they pulled out all the stops to get attention. The Red-White and Blue paint job was stunning, and Linda Vaughn and her Golden Shifter girls drew a lot of looks as the cars were paraded around the infield track. American Motors Corporation wanted to show the world that it could build muscle cars like the Big Three automotive manufacturers back in the day. The Rebel Machine was based on their AMC Rebel platform. This was AMC’s finest achievement.
Here is a real Y Code 1970 AMC Rebel Machine as listed by Streetside Classics in Nashville, this week. It has the big 390 ci V8 rated at 340 horsepower and a 4-speed manual transmission. It is equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes. But it was that Red-White and Blue paint job that set it apart from other muscle cars of that era.
The Rebel Machine’s 390 ci V8 put 340 horsepower to the ground providing an impressive 430 foot pounds of torque. Like the AMX, the 390 was tweaked with high-flow dual-plane intake, dog-leg port heads and larger exhaust manifolds. It was the fastest car AMC ever produced. Super Stock and Drag Illustrated magazine reported a quarter-mile time of 14.40 at 100 miles per hour.
Talk about a classic look. The Rebel Machine features a dual scooped hood and open grille which makes this dual headlight effect look menacing.
The base price on this amazing muscle car was only $3,450. But AMC did not have the marketing power to promote this new phenom, so sales never reached the car’s potential. It was only offered that one year. And that rarity makes it very desirable for collectors today.

New ZR1 Corvette
The yet-to-be-released 2025 Corvette ZR1 will be the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever. That’s what Chevrolet is touting in their promotions for this year’s new ZR1 with the LT7 5.5 liter Gemini engine. The Twin Turbocharged forced induction system is said to produce 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, and 828 foot-pounds of torque at 6,000 rpm. Once again for the C8 generation of Corvettes, the ZR1 will be the most powerful model in the series. The Twin Turbochargers will produce about 200 horsepower more than the previous supercharged LT6. It still utilizes the flat-plane crankshaft, 32-valves, and dual-overhead cams. But the Twin Turbocharged architecture makes the V8 power dense and boosts it into super car type performance. The ZR1’s will begin delivering early in 2025. They are expected to cost between $180,000 and $205,000 depending on the options ordered. We can’t wait to see one in our Corvette Section.

For instance, you did not see many Boss 302’s for sale last year as you had in previous years. Collectors are holding onto these desirable Pony cars and not selling them into the downturn. In fact, this 1970 Boss 302 Mustang is one of the few you’ll find for sale today. It was listed by Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. The Calypso Coral beauty is really nice and has power steering with power disc brakes. They turn these cars pretty quickly so you might want to call them right away. It is not uncommon for us to have a Yenko Camaro tribute here in the featured position of the newsletter. Camaros are a favorite among tribute builders. Deals of the Day
1970 Corvette LS5
If you are a Corvette collector you will be salivating at the chance to own this 1970 Corvette Stingray Convertible with the LS5 454 V8 engine and only 54k miles on the clock! Amazing find! Do you have the phone in your hands yet? The private party seller from California says there were only 4,473 of these LS5 Corvette convertibles built. How many could still be left? It has the TH400 automatic with 3.08 posi rear end, aluminum radiator, leather seats, power windows, tilt wheel, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $46,000.
1959 Ford Fairlane
A 1959 Ford Fairlane 2-Door Hardtop was just listed for sale by Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. They literally wholesale classic cars. This hardtop Ford really looks sharp in the photos. Although the listing is so “fresh” that they have not gotten the description on the ad, you can see from the photos that this car is “clean.” Look at the seats, door panels, dash and steering wheel. And those odometer tumblers look pretty straight, also. Because the headliner looks tight and the carpets look new, you might want to inquire when the restoration was done. Or is it just from the low miles? The engine compartment looks nice. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. We don’t expect it to last long at this price. $22,900.
1951 Plymouth Cranbrook
You don’t see a 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook very often anymore. But when you do see them come up for sale they seem to have a followiing. This one is being offered for sale this week at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They say it is well preserved with just 61,165 miles on the odometer. They report that the chrome and stainless look as good as the well preserved interior. They call the Sterling Gray paint “beautiful” and note that it covers a rust-free body. The interior and engine bay both show as clean as can be. They indicated that the Cranbrook looks much like it must have when it rolled out of the showroom in ’51. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $17,000.
1977 Fiat Spider
Fiat was known for making cheap cars in Europe. But one car they made that has stood the test of time is their little sports roadster, the Fiat Spider. And this 1977 Fiat Spider may be bulletproof since it is a restomod almalgam of the Fiat Italian racing DNA combined with a Japanese Mazda Miata’s drivetrain. We have never seen anything like this. This Spider restomod is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics in Phoenix. It has custom sports seats, Auto Meter racing gauges and wood-rimmed steering wheel. It even has a Kenwood stereo system with USB and Bluetooth. The Mazda fuel injected engine is mated to a 5-speed. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. You can buy it for $16,995. That’s a lotta car, don’t you think?
1979 Jeep CJ-5 Custom
Jeeps are as deeply ingrained in our American heritage as hot dogs and spple pie. They are a phenomenon of our culture. And we like the older CJ-5 Jeeps as much as the newer Wranglers. Here is a 1979 Jeep CJ-5 that was custom rebuilt. While the exterior has the wild flamed paint job, the interior is custom leather and looks luxurious and comfy. It has a full cage roll bar. The engine is a 304 ci V8 with oversized tires on custom wheels. It is being offered for sale at Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin. The body is fiberglass with a buckskin interior. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday next week. Their asking price is $19,900.
1983 Cadillac El Dorado
A private advertiser from Oregon has a 1983 Cadillac El Dorado Convertible for sale. Look at the photos. This is no show car, but a well worn Cadillac convertible that needs a new interior. The seller says it runs well and is all original with a woodgrain dash. It would be a mistake to buy this car without having it inspected. You need to know what you are getting into. But the price is affordable. If you want a project where you can drive it while you work on it, this may be something to look into. . It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $10,000.

1969 Plymouth Satellite
If you are looking for an affordable Mopar, take a look at this one. The 1969 Plymouth Satellite is being offered for sale by a private party collector from West Hartford, Connecticut. He tells us it is a “super clean” one-owner car with just 59k original miles. He indicates that it has a performance intake and Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. He says it runs and drives “great” with a recent tuneup. He also indicates that it sounds as good as it looks with a dual exhaust, and new Redline radial tires. It does seem like it is worth having inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. He is asking $24,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
