Santa’s New Ride
This week a custom rat rod was listed for sale that was so cool it would make a fitting sled for Santa this Christmas. Take a look at this 1928 Ford Model A Woody Rat Rod with an all steel body. It took over 3,000 man hours to build. And it comes with a custom surf board mounted to a roof rack. Man, this custom hot rod has it all.
The ’28 Rat Rod custom is being offered for sale this week at Old Town Automobile in Huntingtown, Maryland. They are clearing out their inventory for the new year and they just dropped the price $10,000 on this incredible ride. Almost everything is one-off on this car. In addition to its unique body and wood construction panels that are all hand crafted, it also has a one-off suspension and a blue printed 347 hot rod engine boosting 430 hp. It is fed by 3 – 2 barrel Holley carbs, and then transfers power to a performance built C6 automatic transmission, putting all that power to the ground through a 8.8 Ford rearend. The hot rod uses Quick Ratio power steering and power 4-wheel disc brakes.
Amazing in every aspect, this rod comes with Wheel Smith wire wheels, stainless dual exhaust, a custom interior with tilt wheel, Classic gauges, a great stereo system and removeable cloth top. Unusual for a rat rod, it looks as good as it performs.
You would have to say that this one is an automotive work of art. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run.

Merry Christmas
From our staff here at the Cars-On-Line office to you, we wish you a Merry Christmas this coming week. I don’t think anyone would dispute that we live in some troubling times. Right now, we could all use a little of the promise of Christmas. In the true meaning of the day, we pause to take the measure of our lives. With echoes of the Christmas Canon ringing softly, the world seems to have slowed down a bit today so that we can reflect on where we are in our life journey. Isn’t it amazing that because a little baby boy was born 2,054 years ago we remember his birth on Christmas day. And even today, the world stands still to honor his birthday. Just as the three kings sought him out to give him gifts, so we too give each other gifts on this Christmas in 2024. And so, our hope for each of you is that you will have a chance to feel the warmth and calm of this season … enjoy the company of the people who are most dear to you … share laughter and stories … and find peace in this blessed day. Merry Christmas to all, and God Bless you … every one.
(We want to thank you for being such loyal readers of this newsletter this past year. This is the last newsletter for 2024. We will not publish the newsletter next Friday, but we will be back the following Friday, January 3, 2025, with a fresh newsletter to start off your New Year.)
Collector Car Values
As the 2024 year comes to a close, one of the topics of conversation revolves around whether the collector car market has a future. Baby boomers are selling off their collections flooding the market with so many cars that prices have naturally fallen abruptly this year. If you blinked you would have thought you had entered an alternate reality. Hagerty Insurance keeps track of prices in the collector car market and tries to chart them. They say prices fell by 50 percent on some cars from 2023 to the midway point of 2024. That’s why you are seeing such low prices on some cars here in the newsletter today. For instance, this 1940 Chevrolet Custom Coupe was just listed for sale for $23,000. Last year they would have been asking twice that price. You would have to say this is certainly a “buyer’s market.” Cash money walks and talks. That’s good for most of us who have been priced out of this market in recent years. But it leaves some sellers upside down in their investments. Take advantage while you can. We hear some people talking about the “Trump effect” being able to pump prices back up. Let’s see what happens at the January auctions in Scottsdale (Barrett-Jackson) and Kissimmee (Mecum.)

Bullitt Mustang
Ford Motor Company was so aware of the popularity of the Highland Green 1968 Mustang Fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 Hollywood film Bullitt that they created the 2019 Bullitt Mustang in tribute to the ’68 film car. The Bullitt movie is credited with having the greatest car chase scene ever filmed. When they were promoting their 2019 Bullitt Mustang, Ford went all out, using the original Bullitt Mustang in their commercial. They even had McQeen’s grand daughter drive the 2019 Bullitt Mustang in a mock chase scene for the TV commercial. This week, The Throttlestop in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin listed one of the 2019 Bullitt Mustang editions for sale. (There were 8,200 Bullitt Mustangs produced in 2019 and 3500 in 2020.) Born to be collectible, this car still has only 2,138 miles. It comes with unique wheels and a performance tuned suspension.

1972 Chevelle Video
In this week’s video Greg from Vanguard Motors is showing off his fresh built 1972 Chevelle. This one looks like it just came from the factory (or better.) Look at those Boyd Junkyard Dog wheels! This is a beautiful video of a beautiful muscle car. Nice and clean, this one is ready to go. Greg shows how straight and perfect this Chevelle is. Then watch as Greg shows you the undercarriage and points out all the brand new equipment underneath. Click the video window above for a real good show.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1949 Mercury Convertible
Everybody will scratch their heads to figure out how a 1949 Mercury Convertible remains today with low miles. The Bermuda Cream ’49 is celebrated as “the best surviving example of its kind,” says Classic Auto Showplace, the classic car dealer that listed the car for sale this week. They tell us it has only 40,701 original miles (Verified as “actual” on the previous California title and current New Mexico title.) You can read about the ownership history in the ad copy. This Mercury shows the best in post-war design and engineering. This is what we mean when we use the phrase “investment grade collector car.”
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1993 Corvette Coupe, PJ’s Auto World, FL, only 2,958 actual miles
1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, Jensen Dealerships, 4,034 miles
1982 Corvette Collector Edition, Primo Classics, 45k miles
1996 Mustang Cobra, Streetside Tampa, 29,585 actual miles

1949 Ford Coupe
If you are looking for an easy restoration, here is a 1949 Ford Custom Club Coupe where the body has been redone and is sitting in primer. It is being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennnsylvania. They tell us the interior has been redone and it is ready to cruise right now. They say the miles on the odomenter are low, but they cannot verify whether these are the original miles. Have it inspected before you buy to make sure the car is right for you. But hurry! This one will not last long with an asking price of just $16,000.

Saleen Boss 302
A 2013 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca Edition was specially built as a tribute to Hall of Fame racer George Folmer, one of the team members along with Parnelli Jones that won the SCCA Trans Am series back in the day. Steve Saleen built this special edition George Folmer Saleen Mustang, and it is said to be in pristine condition. The owner was selling this historic car for $140,000, but just this week he dropped the price to $120,000.

Muscle Car Clones
1969 Chevrolet Nova
Streetside Classics in Atlanta has listed a 1969 Chevrolet Nova Pro Touring resto mod for sale this week. It is clad in Marina blue finish and has Yenko Deuce decals to verify “its DNA.” The custom-built narrow subframe allows massive Forgeline wheels – 18×10 inches up front and 19×12 inches in the rear, wrapped in 275/35ZR18 front and 345/30ZR19 rear performance tires. DSE mini-tubs and custom sheet metal house the wide rear wheels with precision. Oh, yes, this is a muscle car. With Corvette suspension and brakes, and a custom subframe, this is way better than a factory build from the ‘60s.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:
1972 Chevelle, Streetside Tampa, SS 454 tribute

Deals of the Day
1967 Mercury S55 Convt
So you say you want a project car you can work on as you drive it? Here is a 1967 Mercury Monterey S55 Convertible that is a real big block convertible classic muscle car. It is a 2-owner car, and it is the last year for the S55, so it was 1 of only 145 built. It is being offered for sale this week at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. It seems that they pulled it out of storage, gave it a once-over to get it ready to sell, and here it is. They say it runs like a top, purrs like a kitten and presents like a cream puff. You should have it inspected before you buy to make sure you understand the condition class of this car. But, hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their price is just $18,000 … for a big block car.
1940 Chevrolet Special
Another car from the Classic Auto Mall is this 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe Sedan that looks so good in the photos. This one however is no project. It comes with a title verified 68,502 actual miles, owned since 1995 and purchased from an AACA member who also took home an Historic Preservation of Original Features award with it in 1990. The Classic Auto Mall tells us that it has beautiful black body panels, but with some patina noted (read the detailed description.) They also indicated that the brakes need work, but that the car runs and drives, and they noted that it “tracks well.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their price is $15,900.
1967 Chevrolet Impala
Here is the real “sleeper” among this week’s DEAL of the DAY features. It is a 1967 Chevrolet Biscayne refinished in Hot Rod Black. The sinister looking car is being offered for sale at PJ’s Auto World in Clearwater, Florida. The gloss black bumpers and trim, black bench seat interior and 20” Ridler wheels give it a lot of attitude. It stops with C3 Corvette dual piston front power disc brakes. They say it has just 74k actual miles, title verified. The detailed engine bay has a 6 cylinder engine. It has what they term a “powerful” Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is only $19,900.
1963 Corvair Convertible
Good driver class cars under $20,000 are selling quickly in this market. Check this one out. But hurry. This 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible is being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They say it “has a higher performance engine, which means it is a mid-performance model with 82,972 non-verifiable miles on the clock. The overall car is showing in very good condition, mechanically sound, and true to the 1963 model.” It underwent an extensive two-year restoration and finished in 2007. It is a well-optioned model, and it comes with a new top. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Christmas Eve next week. Their asking price is only $15,000.
1951 MG TD Roadster
I remember about 35 years ago when MG TD roadsters were going for over $100,000. They were the hot trend for a while until collectors found out how many of them were still around. Today you can get one for way less. Here is a 1951 MG TD Roadster being offered for sale at PJ’s Auto World in Clearwater, Florida. This charming British sports car has a 1250 cc 4 cylinder engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. The 15” painted steel wheels and hubcaps are all part of the look. The finish is “stunning” according to PJ’s. And it comes with side curtains and a canvas top. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Christmas day. (How fitting.) Their asking price is only $19,900.
1990 Buick Reatta
Another one from the Classic Auto Mall (wow, they really have a lot of nicely priced vehicles this week.) This rare 1990 Buick Reatta Convertible will be a great collector car some day. They only made the Reatta from 1988 through 1991. In those four years in production, only 2,437 convertibles were produced (19,314 were coupes.) Buick’s 3.8 liter V6 engine was a strong selling point, along with complete platform change for this car. Although it looks like a sports car, it drives like a Buick luxury car. This one comes with an “overabundance” of documentation. And its in nice condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $18,000.
1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL
Mercedes luxury sports cars are great collector items all over Europe. But here in the U.S. we had imported so many of them that they are in tremendous supply, even as collector items. So you can often find a 450SL or 560SL at a great price. Here in the newsletter it often happens that a car like this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL might be available at a discount to the price they would bring in Europe. This one has been listed by a private party collector in Brandon, Florida. He says it has 158k miles, but has new shocks all around, new upper control arms front, new top and comes with a top stand and owners manual, tool kit and windscreen. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The price is $9,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
2006 Pontiac Solstice | $16,500 | Morgantown, PA |
