Restomods Take Over
If you were watching the GAA Classic Fall Auction this past weekend you probably got an initiation to what restomod custom classics are all about. The top sale of the weekend was a 1959 Chevy Impala Restomod Convertible (see story below.) That sets the stage for what we are about to delve into. The restomod phenomenon has so permiated the collector car hobby that it is a force of its own today. Restomod is exactly what the word implies. It’s not just a trendy new word to describe a hot rod. Oh, no! It is however closely related in that a restomod could be a classic 1950’s car or a muscle car that has been restored with modifications to the original. It is a restoration that blends original styling with modern day technology and performance upgrades.
This 1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible which was just listed for sale at Earth MotorCars in Carrollton, Texas is a great example. This one is a world class build that would be able to compete in any of the top shows in the country. A frame-off restoration, it now has an LT4 6.2L supercharged engine, 4L60E 4-speed transmission and a Currie 9-inch rear end. The custom classic has some top level quality performance add-ons that require custom fabrication, such as Morrison performance motor mounts, tubular upper and lower control arms, upgraded front sway bar, rear track bar, Stef’s Fabrication Catch Can, and a full hammered coated frame. Take a look at the photos at the link. That is a full custom interior with new seats, door panels and center console. It has a new power top, IDIDIT steering column, front and rear Wilwood drilled and slotted rotors, Classic Industries gauges, Lokar shifter, Hooker exhaust and manifolds with Magna Flow mufflers and Vintage Air. The wheels are Schott 245/45/18 and 285/35/20 with Falken tires.
Earth MotorCars notes that the build is world class, and you can drive this car anywhere. This is what resto-modding is all about. They even offer extended warranties.

Classic Car News This Week
Restomods Unleashed
Are restomod customs becoming the dominant influence in the collector car hobby? It would have seemed that way if you were watching the GAA Classic Fall Auction this past weekend. This completely modified 1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible sold for $235,000 at the hammer to be the top car sold in Greensboro, North Carolina that day. The custom built Impala was a custom fabricated show piece. Then a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air custom restomod went for $170,000. But some original collector vehicles were still selling for big money. A restored original 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190SL sold for $195,000 a little later in the auction. An original 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe sold for $164,000, and a restored 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible sold for $165,000. Bidding was strong all day on Saturday, November 7 while we were watching their Live Video Feed. Click here to view the results of the three-day sale.
SEMA Best Builder
A custom car builder with a long history here on the Cars-On-Line website has been named the country’s top builder at the big SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Noah Alexander from Classic Car Studio in Brentwood, Missouri won the top award in the Battle of the Builders at SEMA this past week. His 1968 Dodge Charger restomod custom was the top car out of 172 entries. This car also won Goodguys Street Machine of the Year. Classic Car Studio is one of Cars-On-Line’s oldest advertisers. The award was announced last Thursday, November 7 on the last day of the SEMA convention in Las Vegas. Noah said he got some help from the Roadster Shop to get his spot in the show car lineup. The Charger sits on a Roadster Shop “Fast Track” chassis and is powered by a Dick Landy 440 V8. The paint is BASF Glasurit, while the custom interior was done by the CCS Speed Shop. Click here to watch a video of the build.
Hilton Head Best in Show
The most impressive vintage motorcar at the Hilton Head Island Concours is always selected as Best in Show with all the pomp and circumstance that goes with it. This year’s Best in Show at Hilton Head was a 1911 Oldsmobile Limited Touring Car owned by David and Patricia Peeler of Weddington, North Carolina. The Hilton Head Concours, in its 22nd year, is the last big Concours d’Elegance of the year, and one of the important events of 2024. The Concours de Sport winner (for top sports car) was a 1957 Ferrari 250 GT TdF owned by Frederick Fischer from Wildwood, Missouri. Almost 200 rare classics graced the fairways at the Port Royal Golf Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for the full weekend show. 1941 Willys Coupe
A Willys Coupe is arguably one of the hardest custom cars to build in the street rodding hobby. Way more time and attention to detail is required than say a Ford Deuce Coupe. But when they are done right, oh, my, they are the coolest thing going. This 1941 Willys Coupe is a great example of what is possible. It is being offered for sale this week at Vanguard Motor Sales in Plymouth, Michigan. Under the hood is a big block Chevrolet 468 ci crate engine by Big Al’s Toy Box. Look at that 871 Blower on top! The metallic Lime Green paint will get your attention, and the custom tan leather interior will make you never wanna’ leave. It’s perfect.
Welcome A New Dealer
Our new listings have taken on a new look this week thanks to a specialty car dealer that just joined our Cars-On-Line Dealer Network. Please welcome Garage Kept Classics out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, as they are making a big display of classic and exotic cars here in the newsletter this week. For example, they just listed a performance modified 2015 Lexus RC F luxury sports car for sale which is the ultimate tuner. With an aggressive looking Pandem Widebody kit, the look and stance of this car is stunning in a one-of-a-kind multi color custom wrap. With custom designed Rohana forged wheels and an IMSA style wing, there is no other car on the road quite like this one.

Auctions

If there is one collector car auction you don’t want to miss this year it is the Raleigh Classic Winter Auction, December 6-7, 2024 at the Capitol Auto Auction facility in Youngsville, North Carolina, just north of Raleigh. Not only is it the last big auction of the year, it is one of the best for true vintage classics and great 1950’s cars. It has the reputation of being one of the best auctions to buy true low miles collector cars as well. They say there will be over 300 choice vehicles in the sale. They take pride in curating the best cars in the hobby for the two-day event. Here are just a few to whet your whistle.
1929 Chrysler 75 Roadster
A true diamond in the rough, this 1929 Chrysler 75 Roadster has been in the same family for 44 years. It is now open to bid by the general public for the first time. It will be among the dozens of vintage classic cars available for sale during the Raleigh Classic Winter Auction, in Youngsville, North Carolina, December 6-7, 2024. This beautiful classic car was lovingly restored to original factory spec and is a multiple time AACA award winner. Today it remains in “impeccable condition,” according to the auction promo. Click through to view the photos.
1956 Ford Sunliner
Now here is a great 1950’s Ford two-tone color combination. This 1956 Ford Fairlane Sunliner is finished in Bright Red and Raven Black with a black canvas top. It is a prime example of the myriad of 1950’s classics that will be offered for sale during the Raleigh Classic Winter Auction in Youngsville next month. Powered by a 292 ci V8 engine with an automatic transmission, the Fairlane is updated with Vintage Air, and still retains the Master-Guide power steering, Swift Sure power brakes and two-tone red and white vinyl interior. The OEM Continental kit and fender skirts, plus the exhaust pipes passing through the rear bumper are all highlight features of the ‘50s.
Thunderbird Sports Roadster
One thing the Raleigh Classic is noted for is classic low miles vehicles. A good example is this 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roaster. It will cross the auction block on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Capitol Auto Sales facility in Youngsville. The odometer shows only 27,389 miles. This is a real deal Sports Roadster with the fiberglass tonneau cover that makes the T-Bird into a two-seater sports car. They only made them one year from the factory. This is one of just 1,427 that Ford produced. It is proven by its trim tag showing “76B” and the “89” in the VIN. It has a Z code 390 4-barrell engine, Cruise-O-Matic transmission, power windows, power convertible top, Swing-Away steering wheel and Kelsey Hayes wheels.

1965 Chevy II Nova

This week a 1925 Dodge Brothers Sedan was listed for sale by Garage Kept Motors in Michigan. Click the video window above to listen to this antique treasure start with the low voltage electric starter rotating a few times before it pops. The engine sounds really good once it gets going. Deals of the Day
1972 Monte Carlo
A Washington state seller is offering his dad’s 1972 Chevy Monte Carlo for sale this week. He just dropped the price, too. He says he dad bought the car about 20 years ago and began restoring it. The restoration was done at Classic Car Service in Snohomish, Washington. It was taken down to the frame, re-painted, re-upholstered and Flowmaster exhaust was added. The 350 engine is original to the car, he says. He says he has videos of the car if you wish to see it run. He says it has been stored inside and covered its whole life. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $18,000.
1952 Plymouth Cranbrook
You don’t see these very often. This is a 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook mild custom 2-Door sedan. It is being offered for sale at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois, along the old Route 66. It is finished in light blue over a grey interior and rides on wide white wall tires. Very cool look and stance. It has an inline 6 cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission on the column. The interior has been completely refinished, they say. They consider it in excellent condition. You can see for yourself in the photos at the link. They say it is in good condition and runs well. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $11,900.
1970 Ford F100
Here is a classic pickup truck that looks good in the photos, although the seller does not give us a very robust description. You’ll have to call him to get the skinny on this 1970 Ford F100 PIckup. The private party seller is from Camden, North Carolina. This is a sharp looking shortbed. Even though it looks pretty good in the photos, you should have it inspected to find out more. You can read about our Pre-Purchase Inspection Service here. The seller leaves it at saying it is “Super Nice.” He was asking $20,000 for the truck when he first listed it. But just this week he dropped the price to $18,500.
1972 Dodge Dart
Of all the Mopar muscle car era cars we get to see, we think that the Dodge Dart is the most popular one to sell these days. They are generally a little lighter on the pocket book, and man can they fly. This week, Country Classic Cars listed a 1972 Dodge Dart at a very affordable price point. The Orange Dart is powered by a bullet proof 318 ci V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission. Although they say it is in overall “good condition,” they caution that it will need some TLC to make it road worthy. With older paint, this could be one of those cars you drive and have fun with while you have it restored. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday next week. The asking price is $14,900.

1982 Firebird Pro Street
Our newest advertiser, Garage Kept Motors, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has an over-the-top 1982 Pontiac Firebird Pro Street for sale at a very attractive price. “Unleash the beast” when you see the list of upgrades made to this street car. With a powerhouse 406ci V8 engine under the hood, stainless steel valves, Comp. Cams, electronic ignition, and MSD ignition control, this Firebird is built to dominate the road. Paired with a TCI-built TH350 automatic transmission and TCI 3000 stall converter, this car delivers lightning-fast shifts. The performance is incredible with Headman headers, an Alston Pro Street rear chassis, a 10-point roll cage, and a 4-link rear suspension. And there’s more. You have to see this video! Suffice to say it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is only $18,900.
1986 Mazda RX7
The second generation 1986 Mazda RX7 was a Japanese production sports car that had no equal in its price class. They had a monopoly on the rotary engine market and it served them well. This car is beiing offered for sale by Classical Gas Motors in Texas. They say the 1.3L engine runs great. Paired with a 5-speed transmission it was ahead of its time. The sunroof and pop-up headlights work properly. They also point out that the brakes and suspension are all stock original and all work well. They even say the interior is in “very good condition.” WE think this one is worth checking out. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $18,500.
1979 Lincoln Town Coupe
Since the car is designated TMU, the mileage cannot be verified. But the odometer on this 1979 Lincoln Town Coupe reads 16,947. You can decide whether that might be accurate, or has it turned over? It is being offered for sale this week at Garage Kept Motors in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They say it comesue exterior with an impressive array of service records. They say it runs and drives smooth like a Continental should. They note the striking blue finish with complementary blue interior with plush seating and lots of woodgrain accents. Click here to listen to a start up and hear it run in a walk-around video inspection. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. Their price is $19,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
1976 NASCAR Chevelle | $16,900 | Staunton, IL |
1995 Pontiac Trans Am | $14,900 | Grand Rapids, MI |
1990 Nissan 300ZX | $18,900 | Staunton, IL |
