Rare Twister Special
Based on the success of the Shelby Mustangs and the California Specials, Ford came out with a Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special for the Kansas City District Ford dealers in 1970. Today they are some of the most sought after classic Mustang muscle cars because they are so rare.
Ford dealers in the Kansas City area jumped on the idea of producing a Mach 1 Twister Special edition to use to draw traffic into their showrooms. The Twister Special program included production of 96 Mustang Mach 1’s and then expanded to include 90 Ford Torinos and four Rancheros.
This week one of the very rare 1970 Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special muscle cars was listed for sale by Cassandra’s Motorsports in Wisconsin. This 1970 Mustang Mach 1 is one of 9 produced with the Twister Special package and a 351 ci Cleveland paired with 4-speed manual transmission. Of the 96 Twister Specials produced, this example is the only 351 4-speed known to exist and one of 14 (of the original 96) to retain its original numbers matching engine and transmission. Finished in Grabber Orange over black and equipped with the instrumentation group, it also includes a Traction-Lok differential, front and rear spoilers, rear window slats, fold down rear seat and power steering.
Cassandra’s tells us this Twister Special has spent the last 42 years with the same owner being showcased in hundreds of car shows. You may have read the article in Mustang Monthly calling it the only known 351C 4-speed to exist. The founder of the Twister Special Registry, Terry Fritts (Mr. Twister), used this car to document other Twister Specials.
The documentation on this Twister Special includes the original build sheet, window sticker, original owners manual, Elite Marti Report, Kansas license plate from its purchase in 1980, original photos from Kansas City International Raceway on Total Performance Day, and much more. They even have original magazine articles written on this car.
The historical significance of this Twister Mustang is proven by its rarity and provenance. Its history is known, and it is held up as the example to which other Twister Specials are judged for their originality. This is the one you want to collect.

Classic Car News This Week
Results from Auburn Auction
The Auburn Auction on Labor Day Weekend was one of the best classic car auctions we’ve seen in recent years. Worldwide Auctioneers sold a selection of historically significant collector cars that rivals any sale we’ve seen in the past ten years. The 1932 Auburn Boattail Speedster you see pictured here sold for $1,022,500, the highest priced sale of the day last Saturday. We hope you were able to watch some of this sale. If you missed it here is a link to the Saturday sale recorded on YouTube.com. Some of the collector vehicles sold at Auburn included a Lincoln Convertible that JFK rode in, the original Captain America chopper from the movie Easy Rider, and the 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet that was restored by Ken Clark, noted ACD expert.
Fogged Headlamps?
If you are like me, fogged-up yellowing headlamps are one of those things I just never get around to fixing. You can buy headlight restoration kits, some of which work. But I always think I’m going to get around to cleaning the headlights myself using some of the “old wives” tales you hear about, like using WD-40 or just toothpaste to restore the headlight lenses. This week I came across two videos on YouTube.com that seem to have opposing viewpoints on how to clean your headlight lenses.
1. Video by CNET Cars that tries using WD-40 and toothpaste in independent tests. The problem with this video is that the CNET Cars tests were not done right. It is basically a commerial for using the headlight restoration kits. There are many restoration kits you can buy at your local auto parts store. But do you have to buy a special kit to clean your discolored headlights?
2. A do-it-yourself video by Fit It Fast shows how to do a headlight restoration safely. It is a longer process and requires some elbow grease and pieces of 1000 to 2500 grit sand paper. The difference here is that they say you need to use toothpaste and WD-40 together in successive steps. The video results are quite startling.

Motion Camaro 454
Okay, here is one of the best deals on the Cars-On-Line website today. This 1972 Motion Camaro 454 comes with a letter of authenticity from Joel Rosen “Mr Motion” himself. So you know this is a real investment car. What’s more, it is being offered for sale by RK Motors Charlotte, the premier East Coast emporium for classic muscle cars. They tell us it comes from a major collection and that it runs as good as it looks. It is what Motion Performance called a Phase III Camaro with a tuned 454 ci V8 engine which has been rebuilt according to specifications on the Motion Performance build sheet. Interesting details of the restoration and engine build are detailed in the ad description. You can also see a test drive video by following this link. It sounds amazing. Best of all, the price will surprise you. That’s a lotta’ car for the money.
Pontiac Catalina 421
Real Pontiac collectors will treat this ad with reverence. This is a 1964 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 with the 421 ci V8 Pontiac engine. How rare is that? There are no known numbers for how many came from the factory, but the 421 was available as a dealer installed option that year. This one is being offered for sale by a private party seller from Oregon. Key information that you will want to know includes, … How is it carbureted? What trim package does the interior have? The answer would be in the PHS documentation which he says he has, as well as the build sheet and Protect-0-Plate. The seller says there are no accidents in its history and no rust on the car. The upholstery is original and the car has had one repaint. The car was in the same family for 50 years.

Legendary Motors LLC in Massachusetts has this very desirable 1967 Sunbeam Tiger Alpine Roadster for sale. 1936 Oldsmobile F36
This 1936 Oldsmobile F36 Touring Sedan is probably more of a project car than a finished product, but the asking price is pretty cheap after all. 1990 BMW 325i
During BMW’s heyday in the 1990’s the car that sold really well was the 325i. Imminently affordable, this 1990 BMW 325i Convertible was a status symbol in its day. The E30 performance oriented convertible is equipped with a 2.5 liter engine with brisk acceleration and precise handling. It was light and handled like it was on rails. This Alpine White 325i shows well and still has only 105,000 miles. It is being offered for sale at Legendary Motors LLC in Massachusetts. It appears to be very original and is in driver quality condition. With only one owner, it comes with Zender 3-piece wheels. Click here to watch a detailed walk-around video.
