Mopar or No Car
The mystique of the 426 Hemi often seems to over shadow its sibling V-Code 440 6-Pack which could also be ordered in any Plymouth E-body or B-body Mopar. Among Mopar power plants the V-Code was thought to be much more streetable. The V-Code 440 6-Pack could build more power without having to force more air into the engine. Mopar technicians back in the day would often recommend buying the 440 6 because it was easier to maintain. If you were racing it, well, that’s another story.
This week a private party seller from Menominie, Wisconsin has listed his V-Code Cuda which could send ripples throughout the Mopar community. This super rare 1971 Plymouth Cuda 440 6-Pack comes with its Shaker hood and Hemi 4-speed transmission with the Super Track Pack 4.10 Dana rear end. It also has power disc brakes, power steering and the Rallye dash. To top it off this premium ordered Mopar has a black leather interior. And the seller says it drives and runs “amazing.” Included with the car are the original fender tags, original owners manual and 2 mint original broadcast sheets. One was found under the rear seat, and the other in back of the glove box. He does note that the car is NOM. You’ll have to ask about that. He says he has complete ownership history back to the day it was new!
The 440 is a bullet proof engine that can be built to make extra torque. It makes better power on the low end. The big block wedge engine is a force to be reckoned with. In Memory of George Poteet
When George Poteet won the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2019 we discovered why he had nicknamed his 1936 Ford Roadster “Three Penny.” It was because he and his sister, while growing up in Mississippi, had a hard time rubbing three pennies together for a milk at school lunch. From those humble beginnings Poteet went on to become one of the collector car hobbies greatest patrons, spreading his wealth and knowledge around to some of the great custom car builders of the past 20 years. Everyone he met was his friend. He was that kind of guy. Click here to watch an interview he did with our photo journalist Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com. George passed away on July 16, 2024. What a great privilege it is to remember him. The hobby has lost a great friend. Follow this link to see a tribute to George Poteet on the eClassicAutos.com website.

1958 Buick Special
No car had more chrome and stainless on it than the 1958 Buick. Here is a 1958 Buick Special Convertible which was just listed by a private party seller from the Milwaukee area. The Slide Show ad has lots of detailed photos. The Laurel Mist color makes it very desirable, and it must have had a recent restoration because the seller says it only has 1,400 miles on it since the redo. Of course, it has the 364 ci V8 Buick engine rated at 250 horsepower from the factory, and the bullet proof Dynaflow automatic transmission. The seller says they only made 5,502 of these. He thinks this is the best left.
Custom Show Car
From the Mazda Liquid Silver paint to the custom leather interior, this 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Classic Custom was purpose built to be a show piece. Never mind that it flat out flies with the 5.7 liter GM LS1 V8 engine and 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission. It was listed for sale by RK Motors Charlotte and comes with their comprehensive multipoint inspection and impressive detailing. Note the 18-inch Billet Specialties Legacy II wheels (front) with 20-inch (rear.) It puts the horsepower to the ground with a Currie 9-inch rear axle and Limited slip 3.73 gears. The suspension is Ridetech adjustable Air Ride. Click here to watch it perform in video.
Chevelle SS LS6 454
Chevrolet’s answer to the might Mopar Hemi cars was the 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 with 450 horsepower. Here is one that was just listed for sale by Verrillo Motor Car Company out of Clifton Park, New York. Yes, it does have the M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission and 12-bolt rear end. They tell us this classic muscle car is a “comprehensive concourse quality restoration.” Click here to watch their walk-around video, and hear it roar. Note the fit and finish. Might be better than brand new.

Collector Cars with Low Miles

1978 Corvette
Wow! Here is an amazing find! The Ford Family Auto Collection listed this 1978 Corvette this week. They say it has just 399 miles on it from new! Due to storage conditions, they repainted the car in 2023. This one is still just a “baby.”
