Defining Resto-Mod

1965 Mustang 5.0 Fastback

The “Sarge” was built to lead younger generations back into the collector car hobby. That was the goal when the Rebuilding Generations movement built this pro-touring restomod Mustang. When it was showcased at SEMA in 2016, the “Sarge”, as this Mustang was nicknamed, was the result of a project to mentor young enthusiasts by pairing them with skilled mechanics and technicians during the build. This classic Mustang pays respect to the original look and design of the early Mustang while using modern state-of-the-art components to improve performance. Older techs passed on the skill and knowledge of how to build such a car to a younger generation of enthusiasts.

This classic looking 1965 Mustang 5.0 Fastback is now being offered for sale through No Reserve Classics in New Jersey. They just posted the car on the Cars-On-Line.com website for sale. The 5.0 Fastback is a great example of what a “resto-mod” custom car is all about. You can read the whole build report and see restoration photos on their ad page at the link.

Detroit Speed is a big part of this build. Under the body lies a full chassis by Detroit Speed, designed to provide unparalleled strength and performance. Up front, the Detroit Speed Aluma-Frame front suspension system ensures precise handling, while the Quadralink rear suspension kit with coilovers enhances stability and control. JRI coilovers and sway bars from Detroit Speed further optimize ride quality and cornering prowess. The Currie 9-inch rear end delivers robust power transfer, and the mini tub modification allows for wider tires, enhancing traction. Steering is finely tuned with the Detroit Speed rack, and structural integrity is bolstered by the torque box kit and subframe connectors. The Ring Brothers, the “fathers of resto-modding”, provided many of the integral parts such as the hood, hood pins, hood hinges, as well as LED headlights and Ring Brothers door handles. The car has a Pioneer Champion Series sound system and Apple Carplay. Vintage Air and Heat were some practical enhancements.

Be sure to watch the “exhilerating” No Reserve walk-around video and test drive. You’ll get the idea. That throaty sound comes from the 3-inch MagnaFlow stainless steel exhaust system. The modern day items blend well with the classic look and sound of this ride. Because of its appearance at SEMA and other events around the country it is now a piece of automotive history. Wouldn’t this look good in your collection?

It’s the biggest weekend of the car show season so far this year. With six big “mega” level car shows going on this weekend alone there is a lot to choose from. But that is just the beginning. June is the biggest month for car shows. Find out which shows will be coming up in your area by reading the Cars-On-Line Car Show Calendar each week. ’68 Chevelle SS Convertible

We’ve been aware for many years that big block Chevelle convertibles are rare and hard-to-find. This week a private party seller from Canada listed his 1968 Chevelle SS 396 Convertible for sale. Of the years 1966 through 1969, there were less big block Chevelle convertibles built by Chevrolet in 1968 with only 2,300 thought to be produced. This one has been resto-modded with 17-inch rear tires and a four-link suspension. All wiring, gauges and switches are new. Even the chrome and badging are all redone, as was the convertible top. It now has 4-wheel disc brakes. But there are only 200 miles on the build, according to the seller. His asking price is possibly the best price you’ll find on a car of this quality. Hurry! This one won’t last long.

1969 Pontiac GTO Convertible

West Port Auto Center just got in a 1969 Pontiac GTO Convertible that they are really impressed with. The paint and body are so nice that you will be surprised at the price. They say the restoration was “top notch.” The engine is a Ram Air IV. It sounds like the original block was replaced by a Ram Air IV service block. It even comes with a parade boot. Click the video window above. They take you through the entire car in this video. Wait till you hear that cammed up engine percolate.

Collector Cars with Low Miles

Corvette Indy Pace Car

I’ve always felt that the best Corvette Indy Pace Car was the first one, the black and silver 1978 Corvette L82 Indy Pace Car with the cool silver leather interior. Looks like one Corvette buyer back in 1978 was thining the same way. Here is one that was always meant to be a collector car from day one. It still has only 14,681 actual miles on it, says Streetside Classics out of Fort Worth, Texas. They say it is a two-owner survivor class car with documents. It has mirrored T-Tops and has been well maintained. The price is right, too.

Here are more recent Low Miles additions:

1976 Ford Thunderbird from Detroit, MI, 10,939 miles

1972 BMW Bavaria, Beverly Hills Car Club, CA, 31k miles

2004 Corvette Convertible from Thomasville, NC, 14,586 miles

1969 Buick Riviera, Coyote Classics, IA, 42,276 miles

You’ll find these and hundreds more in our Low Miles Section online now.

Project Vehicles for Restoration

1957 Ford Fairlane 500

A private party seller from Glendale, Arizona just listed this 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible for sale. It is featured in our Project Car Section this week because the seller says it needs some TLC. It comes with a trunk full of parts to get you started. Call to find out more. He says it runs, and it “does not smoke.” You should have it inspected to get an independent first hand report. These Sunliner convertibles are very pricey when they are fully restored.

The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

1955 Ford Thunderbird, Beverly Hills Car Club, CA

1938 Ford Tudor, Beverly Hills Car Club, CA

1970 Ford Econoline Van, Classic Car Marketing, So CA

1972 Ford Maverick

A Canadian hot rodder has a 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber that has been resto-modded to drive and enjoy. The classic look and modern ride is appealing to a whole new crowd of collectors today. This one has a 363 Boss engine, rated at 550 HP. That’s a lotta’ car right there. He says it was completely restored in 2020. He originally wanted $49,000 for the car. But just the weak the deal got hotter when he dropped his price to $40,000. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Deals of the Day

1967 Dodge Coronet

Here is a 1967 Dodge Coronet Convertible which has been made into an R/T tribute, according to Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. They specialize in offering very affordable collector cars at outstanding prices … deep discounts to the regular classic car market. Finished in yellow, this Coronet has a black power convertible top and black interior. It is powered by a 383 V8 big block Mopar motor and mated to a Torqueflite automatic transmission. They say it is in very good “driver quality” condition inside and out. Take a quick look at the photos on the ad page. You can also get another view of the car from watching this walk-around video and hear it run. This classic Mopar will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $27,900.

1955 Hudson Hornet

A nice car was listed this week at a really affordable price. This 1955 Hudson Hornet will get Hudson collectors excited. I know we have a cult movement of Hudson owners who watch our site for new listings of the Hudson kind. The Georgia seller says this is a nice one with show quality paint, chrome and stainless. The engine compartment is pretty clean and has a nice running V8, according to the seller. The 4-door classic has had a restoration, and the seller claims that it runs and drives very well. This would be a good one to have inspected. He says there has been no rust ever on this car. Note its comes with Coker radials and a Continental kit. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $18,500. He will consider trades.

1973 Jensen Healey Roadster

Beverly Hills Car Club was active again this week. You know they specialize in cars they find “lost in storage.” Often these cars are easily restorable or ready to be put back on the road. They are offering this 1973 Jensen Healey at a deep discount to the market price. They say it has 76k miles on the odometer. The white Jensen Healey is a blue-plate California car equipped with a manual transmission, front-wheel disc brakes, dual carburetors, dual exhaust, Smiths instruments and 13-inch steel wheels. The British sports car comes with a convertible top and tonneau cover. You will have to install the top yourself. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $6,950.

2007 Pontiac Solstice

Here is another great deal on a very popular little two-seater sports car. Sovereign Auto Group out of Michigan is a wholesaler that gets in a few classic and sports car occassionally. When they do they blow them out at good prices here in the DEAL of the DAY. This 2007 Pontiac Solstice Convertible is one of those cars. The black Solstice has a 2.4L double overhead cam engine with a 5-speed manual transmission, so it meets your “sports car” requirements. The odometer is at 90k. Check out the photos. It has cruise control, the Convenience Package, and power options. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is only $9,900. Hurry on this one!

2006 Chrysler Crossfire

A 2006 Chrysler Crossfire Convertible was just listed for sale with a clean Carfax report. It is being offered for sale by a private party seller from Troy, Michigan. The Sapphire Blue metallic late model sports car comes with a black cloth top. The Carfax notes it is a one-owner, has Bluetooth, electronic stability control, heated mirrors and a leather interior. For a small sports car it actually has lots of cargo room. The seller says this one has been well maintained and recently passed a rigorious inspection by a Certified Technician. You know that you have to have it inspected before you buy, so you will find out for yourself. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $14,989.

1988 Camaro IROC-Z

In the evolution of the Camaro there came a time when Roger Penske promoted the Internation Race of Champions (IROC.) The Camaro became the standard car that every team in the series ran. They were all spec’d the same. Chevrolet then renamed the Camaro Z28 which became the IROC-Z from 1985 to 1990. Here is a 1988 Camaro IROC-Z offered by a private party seller from Rome, New York. He says it has new paint and comes in at just 84,000 miles with an automatic transmission. The seller says he is the third owner and that the car is always stored inside. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is just $18,500.

2001 BMW Z3

BMW’s Z3 was a big hit when it appeared on the automotive scene in 1995. It was BMW’s first attempt at building a car outside of Germany. These Z3’s were produced in North Carolina. The early Z3’s had the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engines. But when this 2001 BMW Z3 came out it was given the 3.0 Liter V6 engine producing 228 horsepower. That power boost makes this Bronze beauty a little more interesting. If you haven’t driven one, here is your opportunity. It is being offered for sale at Cassandra Motorsports in Pewaukee, Wisconsin this weekend. Check over the photos. This one has special interior with woodgrain. If you’ve been interested in a special two-seater sports car to enjoy this summer, this one should be on your menu. It will be our DEAL of the DAY at the end of next week if it lasts that long. Their asking price is only $14,995. Hurry!
