Most Desirable Muscle Car
There is no question that this 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda is just about the most desirable classic muscle car in existence. A question always comes up, however, as to how to value this car. In 2007, at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottdale, a number of these hardtop Hemi Cudas were selling at $750,000. Since then those numbers have come down quite a bit as a result of the 2008-2009 recession. (Most recently a No. 2 condition (show quality) ’70 Hemi Cuda will average $258,000 (according to Hagerty Insurance).
This week a private party seller from Canada listed his Rally Red 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda hardtop for sale in the Cars-On-Line.com Mopar Muscle Car listings. You can view a Slide Show with detailed photos at the link. From the photos you would have to assume this car is better than a No. 3 condition car if it were to be appraised. The undercarriage photos are really nice. It would seem to have been restored at some point. Call the seller to find out more of the details. He says it has had a dealer replacement block under warranty. He says the Torqueflite transmission is original. What is significant about this car is the amount of documentation available on it. You can see the broadcast sheet and fender tag in the Slide Show photo.
The Canadian seller shows bucket seats and console in the photos. He says the car came with power disc brakes, the Super Track Pack option, Dana rear end, Ralley dash and Ralley wheels. He can see it has the red shaker in the photos. He bought the car in California four years ago.
If you’ve always wanted a Hemi Cuda, here is one at a pretty interesting price. It is a significant find for any collector.

Ford Halts EV Investments
Ford Motor Company told their dealerships to put a hold on investment in electric vehicle development, including charging stations, this week. They recommended to dealerships which were enrolled in their EV certification program to postpone investments in EV charging stations until their re-evaluate their electric programs. A number of problems were cited, including slow sales of EV vehicles. Dealers were supposed to install a certain number of charging stations to be certified for Ford’s EV program. That has now been put on hold. Ford expects to eat $5.5 billion in losses because slower than expected EV sales in 2024. So when will we see all those Ford EV’s on sale?
The Aging of US Cars
The average age of cars and trucks here in the U.S. has reached a new high of 12.6 years, according to a report put out by S&P Global Mobility. The report says the average age of a passenger car has reached 14 years, while light trucks are lasting 11.9 years. That trend has been increasing every year since COVID. One of the reasons may be that the average price of a new car in 2019 was $33,695. But this year the average cost of a new car is $45,000. Which vehicles do we keep the longest? Sport Utility Vehicles and sports cars are among the top cars that Americans seem to hang on to. That makes sense. Sports cars are often second cars that only get driven on weekends. SUV’s are very durable and become excellent second cars for the family. The Toyota Prius tops the list of cars kept the longest. The Prius is kept by its original owners for an average of 15 years. The Ford F-350 Super Duty heads the list of trucks which last the longest. According to iSeeCars.com, the F-350 Super Duty will last an average of 250,000 miles.
This Weeks Featured Stories
1930 Cadillac V-16
When the Cadillac V-16 first came out in 1930 it was breathtaking. In fact, you might say it still is today. Initiated in 1926 with development led by Owen Nacker, the breathtaking Cadillac V-16 debuted for sale as a 1930 model and ruled the rapidly shrinking elite-car market through 1937 with its original overhead-valve design. This week, The Last Detail, a collector car dealership in South Chicago, Illinois listed this 1930 Cadillac V-16 2/4 Passenger Coupe for sale. It has a beautiful and rare Fleetwood body with a 452 ci V-16 engine and 3-speed manual transmission. This car was exhibited at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2013, and subsequently was written up in Cadillac V-16’s Lost and Found. It is a CCCA Full Classic ready for all CCCA events. With a 148-inch wheelbase, it features beautiful styling and delicate chrome moldings. The two-tone paint gives it an aristocratic look. These cars were so expensive at the time that only 98 examples were built like this.
Aston Martin DB5
How much would a barn find Aston Martin DB5 be worth? The iconic DB5 Aston Martin is the one that James Bond is most often seen driving. Here is a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 which is in need of a “recommissioning,” as Gullwing Motor Cars of New York puts it. Even in this condition the car is worth well over half-a-$million. They say it is a numbers matching left-hand-drive example just out of a 50-year ownership. It comes with its Factory Build Sheet and Heritage Certificate. Interest in this car mushroomed after the 1964 box office debut of the James Bond movie Goldfinger. This one is for sale now for the first time in five decades. This is what is termed as a “Blue Chip” investment.
Auctions

Starting next Friday, May 31, 2024, the much anticipated Raleigh Classic Auction will be held at the Capitol Auto Auction facility in Youngsville, North Carolina. The two-day event is the one all classic car dealers in the Southeastern US have to go to. The selection is just that good. It is the top venue for original, unrestored and low mileage cars, the kind collectors can’t get enough of. This year the selection of classic 1950’s cars and muscle cars is especially noteable. Here are some we thought you might want to see.
1955 Dodge Custom Royal
They say the miles shown on this 1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer 2-Door Hardtop are actual. It is finished in a beautiful factory-correct, tri-color paint scheme: Sapphire White over Paris Rose Poly with a Black top. The vehicle is equipped with power steering, power brakes, and heater/defroster. This is one of just 30,499 examples built by Dodge ’55. It is powered by the original Super Red Ram 270ci Hemi V8 which is paired with a 2-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission with in-dash controls. You just can’t find this model anywhere. But this one will cross the auction floor in Youngsville next Saturday.
1957 GMC 1/2-Ton Pickup
Looking gorgeous in its Ocean Green paint, this rare 1957 GMC 100 Pickup is one you won’t see very often. So few have survived. But what is really amazing about this classic pickup truck is the low miles. It has 19,002 actual miles verified by its Arizona title. The truck was sold new out of Hague GMC Motor Company in Saskatchewan, Canada and is finished in a beautiful factory-correct code “002” Ocean Green. It retains its original 235ci inline 6-cylinder engine and 3-speed manual transmission. They say it runs and drives flawlessly, and is in excellent cosmetic condition as well. You will only find one like this at the Raleigh Classic Auction, on Saturday, June 1.
1971 Buick GS Stage 1
If word gets out about this 1971 Buick GS Stage 1 Convertible being sold next Saturday there could be a bidding war for it. This GM muscle car was the recipient of a frame off, nut-and-bolt restoration which included a pro rebuild of the 455 big block. The car retains its Turbo-400 automatic transmission, and also features factory air conditioning power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt steering wheel, and more. They say it was gone through and updated recently. It is “turn key” ready. It is 1 of 902 Buick GS Stage 1 convertibles ever produced in the ’71 model year. The finish is a very rare Lime Mist metallic. It is an excellent example of the type of classic muscle car you can expect to find at the Raleigh Classic Auction next weekend.

1969 Chevelle SS 396
Earl from MGM Classic Cars in Illinois just posted this video on the Cars-On-Line website. The rare Gold 1969 Chevelle Super Sport came from the factory with air conditioning, power steering and upgraded headers. Real clean throughout in this video walk-around (click the video window above.) Check out those panel gaps. Wow! And you know these Chevelles handle like they are on rails. And look at all the stampings. SS wheels. When they start it up it sounds like it has a little extra cam. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Project Vehicles for Restoration
1955 Chevy 210
So someone started this restoration and wanted to make it a gasser. The Canadian seller says the 1955 Chevy 210 2-Door has a nice rust free body and he also has many parts to go with. It was an original V8 California car which has been off the road since 1971. The work that was done was done some time ago. The frame has been cleaned, smoothed and painted black. Many of the original parts (inner front fenders, A-arms, hood hinges, under dash heater assembly, interior window frames, battery box) were chrome plated many years ago. Can you finish it?

1962 Chevy Impala
Cody’s Classic Cars in Wisconsin just posted this hot deal on a 1962 Chevy Impala. They say it shows only 18,890 miles from new. They believe this odometer to be actual. The white Impala has a 283 ci V8 engine and a Powerglide automatic transmission. It comes with ownership history, mileage statements and records. That is an older repaint in the correct color. Check out the 290 photos included in the ad. They say the interior looks amazing! Not only does it run and drive out well, but the lights and gauges all function properly as well. You could enjoy this car the way it is, or it would be worthy of a full restoration. Click here to view a walk-around video. It will be out DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $12,900
1930 Model A Pickup
A 1930 Ford Model A Pickup was just listed by Classic Car Deals, a broker that helps people sell their cars and trucks on the internet. 1947 Chevrolet 3100 5-Window
Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois has another classic pickup truck at a discount price. This 1947 Chevrolet 3100 5-Window truck is weathered and original looking with a lot of character. They consider it a “Barn Find.” It comes with an inline 216 ci 6 cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. They say it does run and drive but has been with its owner for the last 40 years. It could be your next project ready to be restomoded or restored as a great farm truck. This one will need some mechanical servicing and minor cosmetic work, according to Gullwing. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is $16,500.
