Winged Warrior Legend
On a pedestal of legendary proportions, history may record that the greatest of all muscle cars was the Hemi powered Dodge Daytona Charger. Made for only one year in 1969, the powerful Hemi Winged Warrior shocked the world with its audacious rear wing and purpose built aerodynamics. Chrysler made no attempt to hide the fact that this car was meant to race right from the factory. It was the dawn of a new era in automotive history.
An amazing 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona Charger was listed this week out of Illinois. The private party seller is a Mopar collector extraordinaire. You have seen his cars featured here in the newsletter before. They always sell to other high dollar buyers and top collections. This extreme factory Mopar is said to be “Perhaps one of the best low mileage Mopar muscle cars in existence in the very desireable Spring Green color.” So says the current owner. That is backed up by what Mopar expert David Wise said in his Wise Report on this car. He said, “This may be one of the nicest semi-survivor 1969 Dodge Daytona Hemi in existence. It has had an exterior re-paint to original color and still has most of its factory installed parts. This is one of the nicest survivors … I have ever seen.” The Mighty Mopar retains its original body panels, fender tag, original drivetrain and an original build sheet.
The 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona marks the beginning of the “muscle car wars” between Chrysler, GM and Ford. The Chrysler cars get the highest value of them all in today’s collector car market. Collectors are willing to pay premium dollars for survivor class muscle cars like this one. This car comes with the original production broadcast sheet (see it on the ad page). Wise said it was one of only two Hemi cars painted in Spring Green. And he says it has the lowest mileage with the odometer indicating just 21,126.7 miles (again, see photos.) It has a known owner history, and Wise noted the super performance A 32 Code axle package (Dana 4.10). He says the body numbers all match. The seller says all the drivetrain numbers match as well.
Few cars can attain the level of collectibility that this one has achieved. Although the true numbers may be disputed, historians claim that only 70 out of 503 Dodge Daytonas produced came with the Hemi engine. It is one of the highest trophies a Mopar guy can dream of.

Fixing Dents Quick?
We found this video on YouTube. These guys are working on a 1965 Pontiac GTO that looks like it was used for slingshot target practice. And it was a bondo bucket. They call themselves the Mod Crew. Click here to watch the video. To get all the dings and dents out they are using some techniques that many of you might have done back in the day. They do a good job of explaining the use of a hammer and dolly set, stud welder, slide hammer, dura blocks and even a pneumatic dent hammer. This video represents what a couple of guys can do in a day. This is a lot of work. Luckily the GTO turned out to be a rust free car. Not all of us are gonna’ be so lucky. Nice job. Definitely better than pouring steaming hot water on the metal to make it pop.
Ford Sunliner Inspection
We always tell buyers to make sure to “Inspect Before You Buy.” That’s why our Cars-On-Line Inspection Service is so important to the collector car hobby these days. A buyer from the Midwest wanted to buy a 1959 Ford Galaxie Sunliner from a dealer in the next state over from him. Although he had already seen the car himself, he wanted an independent third party analysis to find out if there were problems he couldn’t detect himself. These are big cars, but the inspector noticed that the braking was a little weak even for drum brakes. For the price, the car runs out nice and handled well. The inspector did notice some waviness and orange peel in the quarter panels. You can read the whole report at the link above. Now the buyer knows the rest of the story.
Buying a collector car without a pre-purchase inspection could be a mistake. The difference between a No. 3 condition daily driver and a No. 2 condition near show car can be a matter of tens of $1,000’s of dollars. You can find out more about pre-purchase inspections here at this link.

1920 Renault Type EU
Gullwing Motor Cars out of Astoria, New York listed this amazing example of a European coachworked 1920 Renault Type EU Coupe de Ville. It was previously owned by MGM Studios and was featured in a 1931 Hollywood film called Mata Hari with famous actress Greta Garbo. Later it appeared in a Marx Brothers movie in 1941. Reknowned antique automobile collector Lindley Bothwell acquired the vehicle and later sold it to Terry Hulman for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum. They say it “performs without issue.” Its provenance and aesthetics mark it as one of the most amazing cars to enter the public market in recent years.
NAPCO Suburban 4X4
As a four-wheel-drive aftermarket conversion company way back in the day, a company called NAPCO was well known for off-road conversions. Way back in the 1950’s the NAPCO name was the one you turned to when you wanted a rugged off-road performance vehicle. Often they did their conversions on Chevrolet pickups. But yesterday a new post hit our classified listings for a 1957 Chevrolet NAPCO Suburban 4X4. Now that’s a rare one. It is being offered for sale by Connors Motorcar Company in West Chester, Pennsylvania. They say this highly collectible California truck was special ordered for use by the Federal Parks and Recreation Department. They say it has been beautifully restored with stunning Turquoise paint and an excellent gray interior.
1957 Chevrolet Fuelie
Collectors will be scrambling to find out if this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Fuelie Convertible is a 283/283 or a 250 horsepower version. It doesn’t say in the ad. So you’ll have to call to find out. It is a fuelie though. Out of 1,530 Chevrolets that came with Rochester fuel injection in 1957 only 68 were convertibles making this car very rare and a dream car for Chevrolet collectors. This car was in a museum collection which is being liquidated by Reina International Auto in Brookfield, Wisconsin. You will see many other examples of museum quality cars from this collection in today’s New Listings. It has had a full frame off restoration back to showroom condition.

1954 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
An original Apollo Gold 1954 Cadillac Coupe DeVille is available for sale at Fast Lane Classic Cars in St Charles, Missouri. They say it only has 24,777 original miles from new. The classic Cadillac is said to be numbers matching with a 331 ci V8 and 3-speed automatic transmission. Note the new wide white wall tires on chrome wire wheels. It features two-tone leather and cloth interior, too.

1960 MGA Roadster
Beverly Hills Car Club specializes in “barn finds” like this 1960 MGA 1600 Roadster for sale at their Los Angeles location. Although this imported sports car is currently not running, you can see the potential here when you look through the photos in the ad. Here is a chance to own a piece of British sports car history for the price of a little elbow grease to get it back on the road. They say it comes with extra parts for the restoration.

1970 Dodge Challenger 440 6
A Canadian Mopar collector has just dropped the price on his prized ride. This is a 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 6 Pack car with a Shaker hood, 4-speed and Super Track Pack option. The F8 Green car has been verified by Galen Govier but is not numbers matching. It may have been the first one built in April 1970. He says the condition class is an 8 out of 10. He was asking $110,000 for the car until today. He just reduced the price to $95,000.

1970 Boss 302 Tribute
Here is a tribute car where the price is right. Drive The Coast, a Florida classic car dealer, just posted this 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback for sale. It is dressed as a Boss 302, but has a 351 Cleveland big block engine in it with a shaker hood. They say it comes with a new interior upholstery and Magnum 500 wheels. With power brakes it makes a great driver, they say.

Among the fastest sellers are Mopar muscle cars. So read this ad for a 1970 Plymouth Duster real fast because they are offering it at a good price. 1947 Chrysler Windsor
Here is a 1947 Chrysler Windsor at a very low price. The classic Chrysler is being offered for sale through Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan. The 2-Door Coupe is seen here in Seacrest Green, a remarkable luxury car in its day. This is the model that has the semi-automatic 4-speed Fluid Drive transmission. They say it glides effortlessly with power. They knew the former owner who cared for this car. They call it realiable and dependable as a driver. Miles on the odometer are 44,596. It has a Philco radio and factory heater. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is only $14,750.
1953 Plymouth Cranbrook
As always, Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois has an interesting price on a desirable classic car. They are offering this 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Sedan for sale this week. It was a California car with a nice body and paint. They say the interior is new. It has a Flathead 6 cylinder under the hood and a three-on-a-tree manual transmission. They say it runs and drives. This one is priced to move. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $11,800.
1958 Oldsmobile 88
A big 1958 Oldsmobile 88 4-Door Sedan is being offered for sale out of Wyoming. Wyoming is usually a good state to find a collector car in because they do not use salt on the roads extensively. So this classic Oldsmobile is an interesting find. It is being offered for sale by Classic Car Deals this week. They tell us the car runs, but it need brake work. They also disclose that there is some rust evident. You will need to have it inspected before you buy. But look under the hood. It has a Golden Rocket V8 with tripower. That is where it gets interesting. It is all original? You can see why this one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is only $18,995.
1979 Trans Am 20th Anniv
We think this is the lowest price we’ve seen recently on a nice 1979 Ponitac Trans Am 10th Anniversary special edition. Of course, qualilty is the key thing in price, but this one seems to be in good condition. Only a comprehensive inspection report would tell you for sure. The original California car is equipped with an automatic transmission, V8 engine, power steering, 4-barrel carburetor, 4-wheel disc brakes, T-Tops, air conditioning, dual exhaust outlets and a nice “screaming chicken” on the hood. It has front bucket racing seats, power windows, and dual side views. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $29,950.
1949 Ford Custom Tudor
An ever popular 1949 Ford Custom Tudor Sedan was listed for sale at a discounted price this week. The classic Ford is being offered at Midwest Car Exchange out of Alsip, Illinois. The popular post-war re-design was extremely popular. Ford made the Custom series as their Top-of-the-line trim level and it included chrome window moldings. They say this one is ready to cruise and enjoy with its 239 Flathead V8 and a recently rebuilt carburetor. Click here to view a walk-around video and get up close and personal with it. Tudor 1980 Ford Fire Truck
You say you want to get the Grand kids attention? A 1980 Ford Fire Truck Pumper comes to you from Sacremento, California where it served in Fire and Rescue service duty. It is said to be in very good condition and remains unrestored as it was equipped from the factory. No longer a Fire and Rescue vehicle, they say it is now driven to car shows mostly. You can see that it still has all of its equipment. Call to see if everything works. It is being offered for sale through REV Muscle Cars in Illinois. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week.
