The Last Boss
When Larry Shinoda penned the final design touches on the new Boss 351 little did he know it would be the swan song for the venerable Boss legacy. The new Boss 351 Mustang for 1971 was bigger and more powerful than the legendary Boss 302, but the muscle car era was coming to an end, and Ford would cancel its support for SCCA racing before the Boss 351 was able to show its worth at the track. Collectors are just now becoming familiar with what might have been the best Boss ever.
A private party seller from Australia listed his award winning 1971 Boss 351 Mustang for sale this week. Not only is this car in the rarest of Boss 351 color schemes, but it is the only Boss 351 to have won major awards on two different continents. Only 67 Mustang Boss 351’s were ever produced in this Medium Yellow Gold color. It seems everything about this car is rare and excitinig. The seller says it was restored ground up to original factory spec. It must have been an excellent restoration because it has won three MCA Gold awards, scoring 689 judging points out of 700 possible. The owner says it runs and drives as good as it looks. The restoration was documented with two folders of photos. Marti Reports are also available.
The Boss 351 was designed by Shinoda, Ford’s talented auto stylist, to be the successor to the Boss 302, and thus compete in the SCCA Trans Am series. Producing 330 horsepower at 5400 rpm and 370 ft pounds of torque, this was the most balanced performance Mustang of all time. It was quick and handled like a road racer. But because Ford canceled its racing programs for 1971, the Boss 351 was never tested the way its predecessors were. So the jury is out on whether the ’71 Boss 351 was the best muscle car of them all. But ask the man who owns one.
With the favorable exchange rate of U.S. dollars over Australian currency, the asking price on this one is pretty reasonable. This is probably the best deal on the market for a 1971 Boss 351 Mustang of this caliber.

Classic Car News This Week
Spring Carlisle Auction
Next week the Spring Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet will be rockin’ the Carlisle Fairgrounds in historic old Carlisle, Pennsylvania. We will be carefully following the Spring Carlisle Auction on YouTube as the live auction event happens on Thursday and Friday, April 18-19, 2024. That is where you will find “gems” like this 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sedan which has been with the same owner and garage kept for 65 years. Now that’s the way to buy a collector car. You can still get a bidder number to bid in the Spring Carlisle Auction. Click here to find out how.

MG Pre-Purchase Inspection
We were asked to do a pre-purchase inspection report on a 1955 MG TD Roadster. The little red British import car was in nice shape compared to many we see. The inspector rated it as a Class 3 condition car. You can read the report here. So our client was able to make a more enlightened decision about purchasing the TD. Classic TD’s peaked in price back about 25 years ago when they were getting six figure prices for No. 1 condition cars. That was before the internet. This one got a high No. 3 condition rating. Read the report to get the appraisal value.
Buying a collector car without a pre-purchase inspection could be a mistake. The difference between a No. 3 condition daily driver and a No. 2 condition show car can be a matter of tens of $1,000’s of dollars. You can find out more about pre-purchase inspections here at this link.

This classic Mustang is equipped with power steering so the driving experience is effortless. A rare 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible was just listed by West Port Auto Center in Fenton, Missouri. This one is the one you want. They tell us it has been frame off restored and comes with the desirable 348 ci V8 and a Tri Power under the hood. The finish is factory correct, Tuxedo Black with a red interior. Wow! Coming from Arizona, the car is said to be “straight and the paint has a deep shine with a mirror like reflection.” It was restored with the intention to drive so you can be sure to enjoy the upgraded automatic 4-speed transmission, power disc brakes aluminum radiator and an alternator to replace the original generator. They say it also features “ice cold air conditioning.” The power convertible top comes with its parade boot for special occasions.
Ferrari 330 GT

Here is a 1967 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 which was just listed for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. This is a highly coveted Series II edition and they say it is numbers matching. In a car like this you combine timeless elegance with exhilirating performance. It is finished in its factory Argento (silver) complemented with a Nero Franzi interior. It has the Columbo V-12 engine, triple Weber carburetors, a 5-speed manual gearbox and four wheel disc brakes. The Veglia instruments and quad exhaust tips are among the excentric features. But there is also a very interesting collection of Pre-War No Reserve cars to be sold. Here are a few to whet your interest.

The Landau Coupe is a stellar design and different from the look of most T-Birds of the era. This one comes with factory air, and all the T-Bird options you look for including the swing away steering column. The odometer reads 29,532 miles and they say the condition of the car would indicate the miles are real. The engine is a 390 4-barrel with 300 horsepower. It has a C6 automatic transmission. Hurry!
2000 Chevy Silverado
If you don’t have the phone in your hand right now you might not get a shot at this one. This 2000 Chevy Silverado half-ton stepside with extended cab is custom built with ghost flames. In addition, it is said to be a one-owner truck. It is being sold through Eric’s Muscle Cars in Maryland. The engine is bored .30 over to 363 ci and they added a Magnuson Supercharger. There are only 1,000 miles on the engine since it was rebuilt. Wait till you here that 3-inch stainless exhaust note. Click here to view a video and hear it run.
